An Unexpected Miser

Christmas is the time for giving and sharing. For most people, this time is most anticipated because bosses are expected to be generous and hearts are supposed to be kinder. Thus, expectations are high that those who are at an economic advantage will share their blessing to those who are not.
In showbiz, stories of generous and thoughtful celebrities are played up to the point that charity events come up as mere publicity gimmicks for some stars. While others sincerely devote time and money, the coverage lessens the impact as some sectors question the sincerity. Their point is that giving should be done without the whole world having to see such actions.
Meanwhile, the other side of the season is balanced by celebrities who limit what they actually share, that is, if they share their blessings at all. Surprisingly, Busy Actress (BA) belongs to the roster of celebrities who have had a good productive year and yet do not bother to share a bit of their blessings. Since BA scored a major hit a few months ago, cornered several endorsements, and opened a business, people expected her to be generous this year. After all, she should be a bit more relaxed in terms of finances this year. Thus, when someone approached her and asked if she would be giving out bonuses, BA shockingly said that she would not be doing such and even hinted that everyone should practice austerity measures.
Although BA could argue that it is her money and she has every right to spend it, others view her non-action as selfish and inconsiderate. While she did work hard for her earnings, her staff has always been there for her and has helped in making her look good and organizing her life. Still, people will dismiss the attitude of BA as that of someone who has become cautious ever since she almost lost all her hard-earned money to a staff member some time ago.
Nonetheless, sincere generosity is welcome not just for this season, but for the rest of the year. Who knows, BA might rethink her decision and see the light that generosity begets generosity, which is better than having to deal with bad karma repeatedly.

Her Sincere and Humble Ways

Given the technology nowadays as well as aggressive marketing of local networks abroad, it is no longer surprising that Filipinos overseas will not recognize celebrities. Thus, celebrities have their fans in every corner of the world and remaining incognito becomes difficult. Some celebrities disguise themselves to avoid being noticed. Others put up an indifferent stance, and say that they are on private time and should not be disturbed by fans. In other words, some celebrities will do anything to keep fans far from them when they are on vacation or on location outside of the country.
By contrast, Beautiful Talent (BT) has broken all stereotypes that have been embodied by the talents of her network who are rude to fans abroad. When BT and her group were dining in a small restaurant, people noticed her, but did not bother her because they felt they might be disturbing BT. When the server brought something to their table, BT was first to say, “Thank you.” Some diners who were coyly observing could not believe that a celebrity could be so nice.
However, some fans could not stop themselves from approaching BT. Filipinos abroad are often elated whenever they see Filipino celebrities and the presence of such stars relieves feelings of homesickness. Instead of telling the fans to go away, BT accommodated every request for a photograph with a sincere smile. She talked to the fans and understood that they were happy to see her. She wished them a nice day and they were impressed at the politeness of BT.
Then, a young chubby dark-skinned girl with a pug nose approached BT. The girl said that she wanted to be as beautiful as BT. BT hugged the girl. Then, BT told her that she does not have to be mestiza to look beautiful and that she could still be attractive. Further, BT told her that beauty was not all about outside appearances, as it’s all about personality, intelligence, and kindness that do not fade away. The girl cried as BT told her that she has just to be herself.
Incidentally, rumors have it that BT shunned any plans for a lavish celebration for a special event in her life. She even insisted on being allowed to do her charity work without any network coverage. Of course, the network could not do anything, but adhere. Even though she is already a prized talent, BT continues to remain humble and focused on her work. Other than her fresh and unaltered looks, BT possesses commendable character. If only some of her contemporaries were like her in terms of character.

The biggest, star-studded annual OFW Christmas party titled “Pamaskong Handog Para Sa Global Pinoy” is SM Supermalls, SM Development Corporation (SMDC) and BDO’s way of thanking and making the country’s modern-day heroes feel the love and joy of spending Christmas back here in the Philippines.
