Careless Product Returns

Personality Entrepreneur (PE) made a name in entertainment as well as in socio-civic endeavors. Recently, she seemed to have taken a less strenuous path from the entertainment scene by choosing only to appear in a couple of shows in her network. This move is not surprising, as PE has invested more of her energy into her social and business projects.

One of the perks of having a reputable name is that PE can buy in bulk from a store that sells high-end authentic merchandise, such as t-shirts. The manager even extends PE with a number of days for the return of the merchandise she buys. The manager trusts PE because she has strong credibility like the rest of her family. Her family has a strong moral and virtuous image as far as the public is concerned.

Hence, like any usual transaction, PE returned some of the t-shirts. During the inventory, the manager noticed that some fakes were included in the returns. Upon investigation, the sales associate traced that the fake t-shirts were from PE’s returns.

Does PE know she returned fake merchandise? If she were unaware, then she might unwittingly have risked all that she has worked for, namely, her reputation in business. After all, this discovery of the manager might lead to PE being blacklisted by other merchants as well. The other question is why PE was in possession of fake t-shirts. Definitely, this incident can put PE to shame.

The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made.- Groucho Marx

Arrogance or Coyness?

Crossovers seem to be the in-thing among the talents of the two rival networks. For example, a few years back, actor from Network 1 (N1) and actress from Network 2 (N2) worked together on movies for each of their networks. Recently, talented actor and beautiful actress from N1 are appearing in two movie productions of N2. However, what has been going on for some time is how the talents of N1 would be invited to host in the other channel (OC) of N2.

After hunk actor and boyish actor of N1 did their hosting chores in the same show at OC, drama actress (DA) was invited. DA deserves the invitation because she is articulate, fluent, and pretty. Besides, her newly found fame has asserted her presence in media. Thus, when the employees of OC were surprised at the presence of DA, they naturally gravitated towards her. The employees took turns in having their pictures taken with DA. After a while, DA innocently remarked that it was as if it was their first time to see an actress.

What exactly did DA mean with her statement? Whenever an actor appears in the rival station, it is a natural reaction for employees to fuss over their guest. Moreover, regardless of which station a celebrity comes from, the ordinary person will always be excited to have a photo with him/her. DA should be happy that the employees were keen on having photos with her. It would be such a tragedy if no one gave her attention.

Letter from a Reader: A Bully Pastor's Family - Update

Hi Mr Lim,

Just to update you, the eldest Son of the Pastor SP is harrassing me. From messaging my friends in facebook down to sending letter to my brother's school that he will kill me. Even the people from their church are bullying me by posting my picture and calling me a pig and a whore for having a child out of wedlock. They were saying that my daughter should have never been born because " wala syang tatay." This is a nightmare. Nabugbog na nga ang anak ko at ngayon naman ay binubugbog ang pagkatao nya.

Some of your readers may not have agreed with what I did leaving my child in the playground, I understand. Thank you all for your concern to my daughter.

But what I can not take is for my daughter to be subjected to the wickedness of these people who are hiding behind the cloak of their church. It's just too much!

When our lawyer sent them a demand letter, no response was sent back to us. So i wrote you. Then suddenly they were all over talking about the incident. I am getting facebook messages from people I do not know. Also a certain person who I later learned was SP who sent my officemate a message asking for my full name and whereabouts etc.

Oh and the all time low was when they pretended to be one of my friends and messaged me - " I am so worried about you. What is your address now?"

Very cunning. Evil at its worst.

These people are even using a popular celebrity couple's name and the name of the big congregation where their church is affiliated. In effect trying to imply that they are powerful. Imagine they were able to locate my facebook account? They are out to harm us even online.

When I wrote you a letter, I simply wanted to share the experience and warn parents like me. I didn't know that people are so evil to think and spread lies against my person. I was not out to extort money from them as what they are now claiming. They were not even talking to us, how was that possible that I extorted money and tormented them?

My child was seriously hurt and hospitalized - and then we are the ones at fault? Parang isang babae na may maikling palda tapos napadaan sa street na di nya alam na may mga manyak pala, ginahasa sya. Tapos ang blame nasa babae kasi di dapat nagpalda ng maikli? Hay nag labas lang ako ng sama ng loob.

Thank you for posting, FP. I may not have achieved the outcome that I expected, but good enough that some people were able to understand.

Regards,
Ms. Sol

What's with the Year?

It is still more than two months to go before the current year 2013 ends, and yet the series of showbiz scandals and controversies that had come to the fore one after the other seem appalling.

In showbiz, there is the shocking break-up of the 5-year relationship of Billy Crawford and Nikki Gil. Not as shocking, but equally surprising was the expiration of Derek Ramsey and Cristine Reyes' one-month love affair. And recently, the misfortune that befell Luis Manzano and Jennylyn Mercado's love story just two days into their second anniversary.

Not to be outdone are the controversies between Cesar Montano and Sunshine Cruz, as well as the long and headline-hogging legal battle between ex-spouses Claudine Barretto and Raymart Santiago.

And of course, who can forget the tedious and painful saga of the Barretto's?

On the political front, never had the country been witness to such mind-boggling corruption scandals ever. The reported misuse of billions upon billions of taxpayers' money that went to Congress PDAF Priority Development Assistance Fund aka Pork Barrel funds are supposed to have massively corrupted the minds and the souls of our Public Servants.

Historically, nowhere would we have known that these supposedly Honorable Statesmen will be presumed as lawmakers slash lawbreakers slash thieves of unimaginable proportions. Where do we run to now?

We have been badly hit by countless calamities in the past, year in and year out. But the magnitude of the recent events - all compressed within a year - is something to take a hard look on and deserve some serious reflection.

Some people say that our Creator must have been angered so bad that He allowed these tragedies to happen so close to each other: typhoons, war in Zamboanga, earthquakes in the Visayas resulting in hunger all over - all deadly, catastrophic and mind-boggling.

A few analysts and soothsayers point out that the #13 in 2013 has something to do with it. Others say this signifies that the second coming of Christ is upon us. It may be biblical, scientific or superstition - what is your take?

What is it in 2013? What are the events telling us? Please share us your thoughts. Would love to hear from you, dear FP readers.

Gardenia’s “The Next Big Sandwich Hit” Final Challenge on October 28 at Glorietta Activity Center

World Bread Day would not have existed had it not been for the declaration by the International Union of Bakers and Bakers-Confectioners in 2005, designating October 16 as the date to celebrate the simple mixture of flour and water, which when heated has become one of the world’s staple foods.

To commemorate this special global event, Gardenia Bakeries Philippines Inc. will be scouring for local culinary geniuses to concoct the “Next Big Sandwich Hit.”

Targeting 10 universities with courses related to hotel and restaurant management and the culinary arts, Gardenia’s “The Next Big Sandwich Hit” is pitting 50 students from these schools to come up with sandwich creations that will knock the socks off anyone who bites into them.

Participants will be chosen from 10-minute video auditions coming from a team of two who will prepare sandwiches embodying two themes from the following fun categories: Hell Week, Free Cut, Fuel Up and Good Morning. They will demo their sandwich-making skills using any two loaf variants from Gardenia Classic White Bread, Gardenia High Fiber Wheat Bread, Gardenia High Fiber Wheat Raisin Loaf, Gardenia Wheat Cranberry Loaf and Gardenia Slim ‘n Fit Wheaten Bread.

Five teams from each of the 10 participating schools will advance to the qualifying rounds where they will battle it out for the chance to represent their school in the finale.

In nail-biting, reality-TV style, winners will be judged through online votes, a taste test, the use of a sponsored ingredient, how much money they make on the food kiosk challenge at Mercato Centrale and their creation of 3 main sandwiches.

The Finale Challenge will be held during Gardenia’s own Happy Bread Day festivities at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati on October 28, 2013.

The top winner will receive P200,000 in cash and prizes; second and third place winners stand to win cash and prizes worth P70,000 and P35,000, respectively.

For participants and onlookers alike, the competition will be nothing short on excitement. It tests culinary creativity, marketing skills, online social presence, on-ground presence of mind and the ability to make us salivate for “The Next Big Sandwich Hit.”

So as countries around the world celebrate World Bread Day, Gardenia’s “The Next Big Sandwich Hit” challenge definitely showcases not only culinary ingenuity and creativity but in how we appreciate bread—the one food eaten by people of every race, culture and religion—with a distinctive Pinoy style.

A ‘Perfect 10’ for Sarah Geronimo

Source: www.inquirer.net

“Have you ever been kissed on the lips?” a veteran writer and talk-show host cheekily asked Sarah Geronimo during a recent roundtable interview.

Too stunned for words, Sarah reached for the water goblet in front of her and took a few sips. “It’s too personal!” she finally replied, laughing.

At 25, the singer-actor admitted she was still relatively inexperienced on the ways of the heart, despite rumors she had dated actors Rayver Cruz and Gerald Anderson.

No experience

“I haven’t really experienced being in a relationship na talagang relationship, or being with someone who has become a part of my life—not just through house visits, Skype or text messages,” Geronimo said.

Though very confident when performing, Geronimo comes across as unsure of herself when her love life is under scrutiny—clamming up or bursting into nervous giggles when asked questions about her personal life.

It was no different when show biz scribes tried to get her to reveal the real score between her and rumored boyfriend Matteo Guidicelli.

“I don’t mean to offend anyone, but I don’t want to talk about it. I’m sorry,” said Geronimo, who tried her best, with little success, to focus the discussion on her coming November concert.

She did, however, make a rather loaded statement: “Kung ano man ang meron kaming dalawa, sa amin na lang ’yun.”

On reports that people close to them had already confirmed that they were “officially together,” the singer, known in the industry as the “Popstar Princess,” said, “Any confirmation should come from us, not other people.”

She pointed out that her life had been pretty much an open book since she entered show biz 10 years ago. She thought it was about time to keep some things to herself.

“I’m sorry I’m not as open as I used to be. I don’t want other people meddling in our lives and pretending that they know everything,” Geronimo said.

Envious

Asked if she felt resentful that her three siblings had more freedom than her, Geronimo said resentment was probably too strong a word, but confessed she was a bit envious.

“Honestly, merong inggit,” she said. “But this is the tradeoff for whatever I have now in my career. Some children see me as a role model; I can’t let my emotions get the better of me. Such is the reality of being an artist.”

There have been stories that her mother, known in the industry as Mommy Divine, is overprotective or strict when it comes to Geronimo’s love life.

Not a rebel

The singer was asked if she ever thought of rebelling against her parents? “I hope I don’t reach that point,” Geronimo said, adding that her parents were not as strict as some people believed.

“Tamang guidance lang…I’m a girl; they just want the best for me,” she said.

Her relief was obvious when she was finally asked about her 10th anniversary concert “Perfect 10.” The concert celebrates her musical journey from winning the singing contest “Star for a Night” in 2003 as a 15-year-old to becoming the multiplatinum-selling artist she is now.

She is slated to do two shows: November 15 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and November 30 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Through the years, Geronimo said she learned that a singer was not measured by his/her vocal range or clarity. More than the technical aspects, singing was about expressing oneself and conveying a message, she said.

“I know myself better now as an artist. I’ve been exposed to more genres of music. I’ve had a wonderful journey filled with achievements and challenges,” she said.

Geronimo, who will be returning as a mentor in the second season of the reality singing contest “The Voice of the Philippines,” added that she wanted to be appreciated for her voice alone, not because of fancy production numbers or gimmicks.

Asked by the Inquirer if she had any insecurities or felt threatened by other singers, Geronimo said insecurities would always be present. “It’s just a matter of using them to your advantage. My insecurities inspired me to work harder and improve myself,” she explained.

“Feeling threatened is the ugliest feeling,” she added. “Kung ano meron siya, pwedeng wala ako; kung ano meron ako pwedeng wala siya. It’s just about knowing one’s self.”
