PHL Embassy Asks Singapore to Hold Racist Blogger ‘Accountable’

Philippine authorities in Singapore have asked the host government to take steps to hold accountable a blogger for allegedly encouraging acts of hate against Filipinos there.

In a statement, the Philippine embassy in Singapore also advised Filipinos there not to stoop to the level of the blogger whose entry remained live as of Tuesday afternoon.

"Agad ipinarating ng Embahada sa kaukulang awtoridad ng pamahalaan ng Singapore hindi lamang ang pangamba na maaring magdulot ito ng hindi magandang kahihinatnan, pati na rin ang hiling na magsagawa ng karampatang hakbang/aksyon alinsunod sa batas ng Singapore upang mapanagot ang may akda ng blog na ito," the embassy said.

The blog had been making the rounds of social media in the past days, the embassy noted.

In the blog entry, the anonymous blogger suggested to his/her readers several ways to show Singapore-based Filipinos their "displeasure without breaking the law." These measures ranged from rude treatment to making scenes in Filipino-themed restaurants.

The embassy, meanwhile, stressed that the blogger's opinions are his/her own and do not reflect those of Singaporeans in general. It also advised Filipinos there not to stoop to the blogger's level and to refrain from replying online or via text message.

"Dahil dito, ang mga Pilipino ay hinihikayat na huwag bumaba sa mababang antas ng blogger at iwasang sumagot sa mga ganitong uri ng blog sa online, email, text message o sa kahit anong paraan ng komunikasyon. Sa ganitong pagkakataon, mas mainam na huwag bigyang pansin ang may akda ng blog na ito sapagkat malinaw na ang layunin niya ay lumikha ng sigalot at hindi pagkaka-unawaan," it said.

The embassy also advised Filipinos to continue their good work to enhance Philippine-Singapore relations.

"Mangyari po lamang na ating ipagpatuloy ang ating layunin na lalo pang mapa-igting ang magandang relasyon natin sa mga taga Singapore at maging modelo ng mabuting pag-uugali sa pamamagitan ng pagtalima ng mga lokal na regulasyon bilang mga panauhin at mga kaibigan ng Singapore at maging maingat sa mga aktibidad na maaaring magamit ng mga bloggers para maisulong ang kanilang negatibong adhikain laban sa mga dayuhan," it said.

But the embassy also advised Filipinos to report any threat to the authorities, or to it through 67373977 extension 100 or by e-mail at php@philembassysg.org.

Decades ago, in order to succeed in local showbiz, you only have to have two (2) things: Talent and looks - with more emphasis on the former. But times have changed because beauty and talent alone will not suffice. Today, apart from those two, an aspiring star has to have the right connections upon connections to the powers that be ( those who will mold and fine tune an aspirant's career to make sure her star will shine ) and the stomach for everything that will happen in between.

For years, despite the perception that she lacked talent, Beautiful Star BS has had her ample share of projects and stardom, courtesy of her network. Observers and showbiz followers wondered 'though why BS was getting all the breaks in spite of her shortcomings. Apart from lack of talent, BS attitude was also an issue against her.

People quipped that BS was very lucky to have gone so far vis a vis her contemporaries. They who were way prettier, more talented and professional, yet were not as blessed as far as good projects were concerned. Indeed, BS was the envy of everyone.

However, not long after, kibitzers began feasting on BS about her Secret Admirer SA who allegedly was her influential benefactor. Thus, it became a no brainer, people concluded that SA was the one behind BS' steady projects. It was reportedly for this reason, too, that a former relationship of BS broke off with her.

BS' good graces continued even though many times, her shows and movies were major disappointments. Yet, SA was always there for her, giving her the perks she could ever have - but not until things began to turn sour.

After sometime, BS was cast as part of a lead role in a New Series NS. It would have been a big break for her once again to be paired with the network's top stars. But there's a twist. Word had reached SA that BS was seeing someone else! SA was furious. After some thorough investigation that included probing her overseas, it was found out that BS was seriously dating a foreigner.

Next day – BS was already taken out of NS, pronto!

Although the public is generally elated for Talented Artist TA with the way her romance is evolving, it is not so for this eccentric Close Relative CR of TA.

CR reportedly reacted when photos of TA with Rumored Boyfriend RB where all over the social media. Always a non-conformist, CR found the said photos unflattering and demeaning of the image of TA which CR seemed to guard forever and ever.

People close to them can recall how difficult it was for CR to let go, and to finally allow TA to have her heart’s desire. The overwhelming pressure from all sectors reportedly did it in.

Now that TA and RB are slowly and publicly hinting at their “friendship,” CR can’t seem to have her peace of mind…oh well.

When the public began talking about the latest photos of TA and RB that made the rounds online, CR was overheard to have lost her cool. Reportedly, she messaged RB and made him know her strong sentiments. Furious, CR told him to not allow such kinds of photos to be put online again. CR told RB pointblank how those photos were cheapening TA’s image and making her look like a w****.

On learning about the exchange between the two, TA allegedly fumed at CR, too. The ‘new’ TA minced no words, and bravely faced CR. With gravy-thick sarcasm, she asked her pointblank, “ You are talking as if you haven’t passed that stage. What do you want us to do, sit there and drink coffee all day? “ End of story.

Truly, TA has finally grown up! Brava!

37th Gawad Urian Awards Winner's List

The Filipino Film Critics (Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino) announced the completelist of winners and awardees for the 37th Gawad Urian held on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Dolphy Theater inside the ABS-CBN compound in Quezon City.
The Gawad Urian Awards are annual film awards held since 1977 and are given in several categories. It is also famously known for its curious choices over the hugely popular choices in the Philippine film awards season.

The Gawad Urian is considered the most prestigious film award-giving body in the country, which has shaped cinematic history over the years. This annual ceremony is held in light of a partnership formed between the oldest and most respected film awards institution in the country

The ceremony also celebrated the works of film director Mike de Leon, who was given the Natatanging Gawad Urian award by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Filipino.

The 37th Gawad Urian awards were hosted by Piolo Pascual, Bianca Gonzalez, and Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino member Butch Francisco, and was aired at Cinema One channel.
