Celebrity Kindness

Since the lockdown in March, social media has become busy with netizens selling various items, from facemasks to alcohol to other essential items. The most common item being sold in Facebook, Instagram, and other sites is homemade food. However, one needs exposure to reach potential customers. Small entrepreneurs obviously do not have that extra budget for advertising. Thus, the power of celebrity social media comes into being.

Amidst the many posts advertising various products sold by ordinary people is the rumor that certain influencers are asking for compensation. Thus, to be featured in their social media means the entrepreneur has to pay, not just by sending the product, but in cash as well. The dilemma is that most of these entrepreneurs are startups and are using their skills to earn a living. They do not have the cash to pay the influencers who demand payment.

By contrast, celebrities who certainly have more followers and influence welcome entrepreneurs and help out in their little ways. For example, Comedian Host (CH) received a tray of lasagna to try out. CH made a video of him eating the said product. Later on, CH ordered and paid for his own tray.

In another case, Seasoned Host (SH) features small businesses in his IG stories. SH has his businesses and knows the effect of the pandemic on ordinary people who have lost jobs that require close contact with customers. Then, Female Celebrity (FC), who is sometimes perceived negative by netizens, opened a thread to enable online sellers to promote their products in her account. Finally, Popular Performer (PP)’s accounts are full of food posts, and PP acknowledges the food and thanks the sender. She even shares the sent food with her staff.

What do CH, SH, FC, and PP have in common? With a combined reach of millions of followers, none of them asks for compensation from people who send products. They do not even solicit. For instance, PP only wants to help the entrepreneurs gain mileage and subsequently, clients.

The pandemic brings out the best among people and celebrities are doing their own share even if by only using social media.

‘A purposeful act or extension of kindness to another is never wasted, for it always resides in the hearts of all involved in a chain of love.’ ― Molly Friedenfeld

  3. Ako nga wala talaga akong social media accounts pero during this quarantine I decided to create a burner account so that I can source out food deliveries.

  12. do not pay influencers because you did not put them in that position, most of them are fakes so let YT pay them and not you.

  14. Ok din yung mga ganitong BI for a change. Yung mga chismis about good acts at good gestures ng mga artista na hindi nakikita ng lahat.
