  3. very misleading ang statement.. "automatic" is not true, dapat iregister nang magulang sa embassy. i know kasi naging ganyan situation namin. :) Filipino naman pala si gabby, matagal nang narecognize, hayaan nyo na.

    1. The statement is correct and accurate. The moment a child is born to Filipino parents, he is in fact Filipino. You just needed to register the birth as a reportorial requirement.

  6. tama ka jan 12:33. Di automatic na filipino citizen ka kung di ka registered at naissuehan ng PH passport. Filipino descent ang tawag sa iyo pag dito ka sa US pinanganak but not a Filipino citizen.

    1. Sa mata ng Pilipinas, Filipino citizen siya. It does not follow na kung "Filipino descent" ang tawag sa US, hindi na siya Filipino citizen. You may read the Constitution for clarification.

    1. Ang dapat niyang patunayan is kung nag denounce ang parents nya ng kanilang pagiging Filipino Citizen nung nasa U.S. na sila. Now kung hindi na sila pinoy nung time na pinanganak na si Gabby, then he is a US citizen

  8. Basta kapag pinanganak sa US automatically US citizen. Anong pinagsasabi mo. Gawa gawa mo lang na nangyari sa inyo. Siguro nagapply ka ng dual citizen kaya nagparegister sa embassy. Bago lumabas ng ospital naka saad na born in usa meaning citizen. Kaya daming pumupunta at nanganganak dahil gustong maging citizen.

    3. Not true, please read what dual citizenship means. Once you a acquire foreign citizenship you lose your filipino citizenship. You have to then apply and re-acquire it. Kami ngang simpleng mamamayan ginawa yun, bakit sya hindi?

    4. bakit naging citizen ba yang si Gabby by taking an oath dyan sa Canada or sa US? because thats the only way that you can become a citizen of a foreign country, you have to denounce Filipino citizenship dahil nga under siya ng 1935 constitution kung pagbabasehan ang edad.

Under the Philippine law, though tge Dual Citizenship law was only passed in 2003, hence from the time that he was having a say on the business decision of the network duringbthe 90's, he should have renounced his American citizenship which he never did. And if the same still goes to be true until this day, that is prohibited by the law. He must have renounced his US citizenship. The law was very strict on that requirement.

    1. I don't think it's necessary for him to renounce his US citizenship, unless he's running for President candidacy.

      Although, as far as I know before they made dual citizenship official in the Philippines, that anyone born in the US regardless of parents citizenship, is automatically a US citizen.

    2. There was no need for him to retain or reacquire Filipino citizenship because his parents were BOTH Filipinos at the time of his birth. Before you quote laws, please read the entirety. 'Wag yung selective reading because you are spreading misinformation.

    3. Agree 2.26 DATES ARE IMPORTANT. Guys please read the article from Manila times. He was ABSCBN's CEO in 1996 and he's been a US citizen (first) ever since. The dual citizenship law in the Philippines was ONLY passed in 2003 so technically we had a US citizen as one of the owners (being a Lopez) of a media broadcasting company (ABSCBN) which is a clear violation of the Constitution.

    4. if matanda na siya and following the 1935 constitution, naku Filipino talaga siya. He is born of a Filipino mother, so automatic ang pagka Filipino niya. He doesnt have to perfect his being a Filipino Citizen.Pero kung mga 1972 onwards siya pinanganak , hindi na iba na ang rules.

  15. When you are born in the US, you are automatically a US citizen. This is regardless of the citizenship of your parents. This is what is called Natural-born. You can apply for dual citizenship, with Filipino as the 2nd Nationality due to having Filipino parent at time of birth.

    1. it depends on the year you were born ang citizenship dito sa Pilipinas. It depends on the Constitution during that time. Pag bago ka pa lang , yes magiging automatic US citizen ka pero kung before ka ng 1972 at 1987 constitution, iba pa po ang batas tungkol sa citizenship.

Besh 7:46, wala sa usapin kung una, 2nd or 3rd owner ang lolo gabby mo. ang issue dyan ay ano ang citizenship nya noong nag-take over na sya? kung 90s pa sya head ng abscbn at 2003 lang naisabatas ang dual citizenship nya, then american citizen sya nung naging top honcho sya ng network. isa pa yung sinasabi mong nilulutong batas for foreign ownership, it will not and never will be applied to media ownership. kahit saang bansa hindi pwede na foreign national ang may control sa media. besides, I don't think retroactive ang magigibgvnh effectivity ngyan. whatever, magandang nailabas ang isyu to educate the masses kung ano ba talaga ang batas dyan.

  18. Mali ka Anon 2:26 AM. R.A. 9225 (The Dual Citizenship Law) refers to natural-born citizen who by reason of their naturalization as citizens of a foreign country, are deemed to have re-acquired Philippine citizenship upon taking the required oath of allegiance to the Republic of the Philippines. Hindi applicable ke Gabby Lopez ito kasi natural born Filipino citizen sya (tatay AT nanay niya Pinoy) at dual citizen siya ng America BY BIRTH. Di siya naturalized citizen ng America. Wala siyang dapat piliin na citizenship. Ang dapat lang gawin ng parents niya is to register his birth in the Philippines and in the US which obviously ginawa ng parents niya.

    Google ka muna bago kuda.

    4. in order for you to lose your Filipino citizenship kailangan sumumpa ka sa foreign soil like for example sa US. Yan doon ka mag oath. In that way, tapos na ang pagiging Filipino mo dahil sumumpa ka na doon.

  22. He has to have a dual citizenship. Kahit pa Filipino parents meron sya if he denounced being a Filipino nung nagrant sya ng American citizenship, then he is an American. Again, kelangan dual citizenship ang meron sya.
