James Reid and Nadine Lustre had their first onscreen kiss as Basti and Iris in the Wednesday episode of “Till I Met You” and as usual, fans of the love team broke the Internet.

The hashtag for that particular episode was trending before, during and after it aired, with a lot of netizens extremely happy to finally see the two’s characters lock lips for the first time on the show.

Speaking to ABS-CBN News on Thursday, the real-life couple shared how long it took them to do that particular scene.

“Nagulat nga kami because we were watching [the episode], parang four kisses yata yung pinalabas pero nung tinake namin yun, two takes lang. So parang, ‘Direk, bakit ang dami?’ Everyone loved it. Kami naman, ang gusto lang naman namin ay mag-enjoy yung [mga fans],” Lustre said.

While “kilig” is still there when they do scenes like that, Reid said: “It’s quite normal for us. It wasn’t like in OTWOL (On the Wings of Love, their previous series) where we weren’t together and all. It’s kind of weird then. But now, it just seemed natural just like I’m kissing my girlfriend. For us, it’s very natural.”

The two said they do not mind that “Till I Met You” is still constantly being compared to OTWOL even if they have been on air for three weeks now.

“It can’t be helped. OTWOL was... some call it a phenomenon. It was the start of a new kind of teleserye. It’s still really popular sa iWanTV, and so is ‘Till I Met You.’ The iWanTV ratings are incomparable. It can’t be helped but it has a different story talaga,” Reid said.

Reid said they are also not bothered about how the show is rating every night because “Till I Met You” is doing very well, adding that people should also factor in those watching through iWanTV.

“It’s hard trying to convert the iWanTV ratings to TV ratings because our generation, the millennials, it’s really different. It’s hard to translate it into traditional ratings because we are different and they prefer to watch it sa iWanTV,” he said.

Reid continued: “We are not pressured. The show is doing well and the story is developing nice and we are really excited for what comes next.”

Can their fans expect more kissing scenes now that their show airs at a later time?

“Well, according to direk Tonet (Jadaone), may nagtanong sa Twitter tapos umoo siya so I guess [we will have more kissing scenes],” said Lustre, smiling.

“Till I Met You” airs on ABS-CBN from Monday to Friday after “Magpahanggang Wakas.”

A Mistake in Seeking a Person to Love

Over the years, a strategy employed by networks to draw interest to new talents is the formation of a loveteam. Apparently, marketing people of networks knew that pairs would always draw the crowd and thus, any newbie would be able to launch his/her career via this strategy. If the pairs click with the audience, the network has a potential goldmine, but if they do not, then the network merely finds another partner.

When Upcoming Newbie (UN) was paired off with Pretty Talent (PT), the network was shocked at the reception for the pair. UN had just been given an opportunity to join a series, without having gone through the tough auditions. Initially, his part was minor, but the viewers saw the chemistry with PT. Thus, a loveteam was born. However, after another project with UN, PT was paired off with another talent. This move disappointed their followers, but there was no choice. They just have to move on.

While UN pursued his true passion, he met Creative Performer (CP). CP has been surely building a name for herself based on her talent, which is also part of her genes. CP comes from a family of singers and thus, she honed her talent knowing that she had the genes, too. After working closely with UN, CP developed her attraction towards UN. While both are single, there seems to be no problem if they pursue a deeper relationship. However, there is a problem, especially if interests are not mutual.

Rumors have it that UN has a secret that he could not just reveal. Typical of some male actors, UN allegedly has an inclination to be with his own gender. Although UN does not show any signs in front of the camera, people who have observed him closely are not convinced that he is 100% straight. Thus, even if CP likes him very much, nothing will happen.

Strategically, partnering UN with CP has already been tried, but the audience did not at all buy into the hype. Most viewers are still longing for UN and PT to appear together. The network might have heard this plea, as ideas of bringing UN and PT together have been floated. Fans are actually waiting for this reunion to happen. As to the time a project will materialize, their network has yet to release a statement. If indeed reconciliation were to happen, the Screen Partner (SP) of PT will be left out. However, SP could then be paired off with another talent, which would not be much of a problem because he and PT, as a team, did not really translate their partnership in measurable terms of success of the network. The ratings of their project were not as high

As early as last year, the clamor of fans for a project that would test the Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza partnership has been reverberating in the halls of APT and GMA. The management of both artists remained quiet and simply said that projects are in the offing. By mid this year, the fans were satisfied with a movie that showed AlDub is not a flash in the pan. ‘Imagine You and Me’ was a box-office treat locally and internationally.

While IYAM made fans happy, most were still unsatisfied, as they wanted AlDub on primetime. Instead of merely coming up with a project immediately, both management teams have decided to take time to plan any forthcoming projects. As among the most important talents of GMA and APT, the executives only wanted to give them the best. Thus, when the name of Richards was floated as possible leading man for the Ultimate Star, Jennylyn Mercado, the fans went on a bashing spree. Such response strengthened the demand that Richards should only be paired off with Mendoza.

A few days ago, GMA executives announced that an AlDub project was being talked about. Then, a photo showing Richards and Mendoza in a meeting with IYAM director Mike Tuviera heightened speculations that a project was indeed bound to happen. Adding to this development is the entry of Kris Aquino in the roster of talents of APT and the ending of Kalyeserye, where the loveteam was born.

Now, the grapevine is abuzz as rumors of an upcoming AlDub project is indeed bound to happen. Aquino is even being rumored to be part of the project. These rumors are keeping fans vigilant and the challenge for AlDub is to keep the fans interested until their project gets aired. Allegedly, a January 2017 has been set for the airing, which is just in time for opening the new year with a bang.
