Knowing How to Quietly Earn Prodigious Money

The recent controversy involving a Government Facility GF shocked the wits out of everyone. The brazenness by which the acts were carried out so shamed the authorities that a Prominent Actor PA couldn’t help but give his take on the issue. PA was for a long time been a part of GF and for years he, as well as his fellow residents were silent witnesses to its coming and going.

During the heat of the scandal, many interviews were done by media entities on high-profile personalities who, one way or another had been connected to GF. One of those media persons lucky enough to do such interview with PA was Enterprising Media Personality EP. The interview which was aired on her show was quite explosive – but nothing could compare to their (PA and EP) off-cam tete -a - tete during the show’s commercial break.

PA did not mince words when he answered EP’s queries regarding the personalities who frequented GF allegedly to give pleasure to its male residents. PA pointed to actress Hot Momma HM as a regular habitué at GF. The shapely HM was in demand to moneyed GF people because she was relatively young and really hot. EP went on to ask PA to reveal more names and he came up with the name of aging but Voluptuous Comedian VC who he said was a “suki” there. Whoa!

Reportedly, some GF residents were asking why VC had to go to GF when she was already involved with a High-Profile Politician HP at that time. Some were quick to guess that it was probably due to two (2) things: VC was too materialistic for comfort or HP was really a true-blue tightfisted. Hmmm…

Actually, the image of VC in showbiz needs no further probing as she has always been reportedly known to engage in the trade for as long as they remember. Allegedly, the thing with VC is that she doesn’t know when to stop – even at her present age.

Celebs, Athletes Renew Their Commitment Towards a Brighter Future

As we begin 2015, local celebrities and athletes troop to social media to share their resolutions for the coming year and renew their commitment towards ensuring a better future for future generations.

Newlywed TV host, magazine editor, lifestyle columnist, and endorser Bianca Gonzalez shared how she and husband JC Intal plan to begin the new year on the right foot by reiterating their commitment to Mother Nature. “In 2015, JC & I will choose more eco-friendly products for our home. #SwitchRightOn #REnew2015,” tweeted Bianca, a known UN advocate and UNICEF Philippines Child Rights Supporter. She also shared an image of a pinwheel as a symbol of her enduring commitment to helping others, and tagged her friends, Mariel Padilla, Pia Cayetano and Mikaela Martinez, on the said post.

The participation of some of the most recognized local personalities in social media has been a welcome development for the Switch Right On campaign, a multi-industry campaign geared towards promoting an increased use of renewable energy for environmental and economic sustainability. This initiative is being spearheaded by the collaborative efforts of the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ECCP), AIESEC Philippines, and other partners from various industries.

Other celebrities who were also seen sharing these hashtags as a sign of renewing their commitments to society beginning next year were:

*Kapuso stars and Philippine ambassador for Save the Children, Kylie Padilla and Mikael Daez:

*Sports Unlimited host, model, and World Wildlife Fund for Nature ambassador, Marc Nelson:

*TV host, basketball player, and Habitat for Humanity ambassador, Chris Tiu:

*TV host, comedian, and make-up transformation genius Paolo Ballesteros:

*Philippine national rugby union team, more popularly known as the “Philippine Volcanoes.”

Switching Right On

Filipinos generally perceive renewable energy as a great idea given the country’s limitless supply of free and renewable energy. With the country continuing to benefit from a growing economy, demand for power has increased drastically as the nation builds up its momentum.  Renewable energy can meet this demand while preserving our way of life through the protection of our environment.

Over the last 10 years, the wider use of renewable energy globally has made technologies like wind, solar, run-of-river hydro, and biomass extremely competitive with conventional power sources especially when health and climate impacts are considered. The recent pledges of China and the United States to control their carbon dioxide emission to reduce the risks of catastrophic climate change will only accelerate the feasibility of renewable energy technologies. And such an encouraging development certainly offers a huge opportunity for the Philippines.

Most nations have realized the benefits of renewable energy and have committed to using more of it in the coming years. Information shared by the International Panel on Climate Change suggests that “life-cycle global emissions” from renewable energy infrastructures—which include manufacturing, installation, operation and maintenance, and dismantling and decommissioning prove to be very minimal and have little to no impact on the environment.”   This is an entirely huge improvement compared to those of the world’s current sources of energy, which are easily depleted and carry a very heavy cost economically and environmentally.

Here in the Philippines, the recent decade has seen the country’s increased dependence on imported fossil fuels. These trends have paved the way for the birth of the Switch Right On movement.

An initiative born out of the collaborative efforts of the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ECCP) and AIESEC Philippines, the Switch Right On movement intends to encourage Filipinos from all walks of life to take a more active role in determining our energy future by turning on to renewable energy for more efficient power generation and consumption. The movement aims to raise awareness to the benefits of energy efficiency and using renewable energy technologies by adopting the image of a pinwheel to symbolize support for a cleaner and healthier energy future.

While renewable energy cannot completely replace other sources of energy in the near future, it has become more economically viable and environmentally logical.

The world has reached an economic tipping point where an increase in cost of fossil fuels and the decrease in cost of renewable energy have made these alternative sources more practical. Apart from this, rapid urbanization and increase human activity have also overwhelmed our atmosphere with hazardous gases, causing extremely harmful effects on our health, the environment, and the global climate. The massive amount of pollution generated by fossil fuels, for example, have been linked to a variety of health problems—terminal respiratory, neurological, cardiac illnesses, and cancers—thus claiming the lives of millions of individuals every single day.

As we speak, more than 3-out-of-10 Filipino households still remain without power, even as demand for energy in the country continues to increase by 7% every year. Renewable energy technologies provide additional energy, which helps ensure electricity for millions of households.  Aside from ensuring a more progressive economy and a healthier environment, RE producers also generate employment, as proven by more than 5 million jobs created by other RE providers around the world, according to a 2012 Greenpeace study. In the United States, for example, the wind energy industry alone provided full-time jobs to more than 75,000 individuals back in 2011. These employment opportunities include careers in manufacturing, project development, construction and turbine installation, operations and maintenance, transportation and logistics, and financial, legal, and consulting services.

Jake or Bret? Andi Eigenmann Answers

Andi Eigenmann is uncertain whether to believe her ex-boyfriend Jake Ejercito's recent statement that he wants to patch things up with actress, following their controversial falling out.

Speaking with ABS-CBN News' Gretchen Fullido on Tuesday, the "Tragic Theater" star said Ejercito's behavior towards her is more important than his pronouncements in interviews.

"I'm not really sure if I should believe that. I don't know," she said. "If he says that, well then I appreciate, but I don't really know. Because to me, mas importante 'yung pakikitungo niya sa akin, hindi 'yung pinapakita niya sa mga tao."

Ejercito earlier expressed confidence that he will reconcile with Eigenmann, saying he remains on good terms with her family.

"Time heals everything. The rest of her family, I think we're good naman. With Andi, I'm sure, eventually. All we need is time," he said, adding that he hopes to have reconciled by Eigenmann by Valentine's Day.

Reacting to Ejercito's statement, Eigenmann said, "Hiyang-hiya naman ako sa kanya! I hope that eventually we'll be okay, but I'm still hurting, and I don't think it will happen by February."

The 24-year-old actress, who is now being romantically linked with showbiz newcomer Bret Jackson, was also asked for her reaction to Ejertico's rumored new girlfriend identified as socialite KC del Rosario.

"We used to be friends," she said of del Rosario. "I just don't let it bother me. To me, it's what he wants for himself. Palagi niya ngang sinasabi, ako naman daw ang nauna, eh. Kasi when we broke up, Bret was there."

"But, see, even up to now we're not together, because it's not that easy. It was four years, and I can't just throw that away in an instant. It hurts. Kung masaya sila, I'm happy for him."

Asked if there is any possibility that she and Ejercito will get back together, Eigenmann answered: "I don't know. I really don't know because... Masakit talaga. Sobrang sakit talaga, so I'm not sure about that."

Eigenmann also clarified that while she appreciates the efforts of Jackson to woo her, she remains focused on her daughter, Adrianna Gabrielle, and her career.

"I just got out of a serious relationship and I want to take things slower this time, I want to be more sure, kahit na ngayon na my priorities are really myself, my career and my daughter. Everything is for my daughter. Gusto ko muna ayusin 'yon."

Just Another Bad Experience

They used to be so passionately in love with each other - they battered one storm after another in the pursuit of their happiness.  Girlfriend GF and Boyfriend BF knew that theirs was a relationship frowned at by most, yet they weathered and survived all the obstacles that came in the way.

Fast tracked to present. Perhaps, GF and BF have proven that they were just humans falling into their own weaknesses - their best weren’t good enough and they parted ways. To date, all their love or what’s left of it had turned upside down. GF and BF seem desperate to erase each other’s memory, as they try to move on with their separate lives.

Wittingly or unwittingly, BF and GF have made a spectacle of themselves on social media before the very eager netizens. The brazenness of their posts have prompted some people to comment that GF and BF  have been putting their dirty laundry for the public to feast on.

On the other side of the fence however, there are talks that GF and a Family Member FM are constantly at each other’s throats, with furious FM questioning GF’s alleged outrageous spending on New Boy NB – shopping, groceries, travels, etc. prompting FM to call GF a young cougar. Ouch! Which reminds me, how true are reports that GF finally left home and is now living in with NB? Whoa!

Oh well, FM who is known to like BF over NB seems to be in for a long stretch of rage and antagonism from the stubborn GF. On the other hand, FM’s outrage may well be BF’s Guardian BG’s big comfort. It’s known to all that BG vehemently disapproves of GF. Heard that BG is very excited over BF’s New Girl NG. Uh oh, what an exciting merry-go-round!

From Shoemart to SM Supermalls: In 1958, a young man started to build his empire from scratch with a humble shoe store in downtown Manila. Decades later, the shoe store has aggressively expanded to become a full-line department store. From Shoemart, the name SM is now synonymous to SM Supermalls, diversifying into the supermarket and home appliance store business. With everything housed in one roof, the company slogan "We've Got It All For You" cannot be more fitting.

Letter from a Reader: Benefit Brow Bar Burns Customer's Upper Lip During Waxing Procedure

Dear Fashion Pulis,

I am a nobody, but I would like to share with your readers my experience with Benefit Brow Bar.

I always had my unwanted hair removed at Benefit Brow Bar, Trinoma branch. Last Friday, January 2, I was there to have my upper lip hair waxed. I was so shocked that my lips got burned! The pictures above was how I looked yesterday morning.

I went back to Benefit Brow Bar, Trinoma to talk to the manager but unfortunately, I was told it was her day off. I got her number and called her to discuss the incident, but she wasn't picking up the phone. I know it was her day off, but I believe that there are exceptions, especially in a service industry when a manager's attention is crucial in special emergencies like in my case. I was so disgusted. I sent them an email and as I write this, still got no response.

I trusted Benefit Brow Bar and had been their loyal and paying customer for a long time. I held on that they would stay true to their promise: " Every Benefit Brow Bar is staffed with licensed professionals, highly trained in the art of brow shaping, so they’re always ready to wax and tweeze, primp and please. " But how can I be pleased when they burned me? And worse, they did not attend to me at all?

I pay Php500 for the waxing everytime, it is pricey compared to others, but I didn't mind because I wanted to be assured of safety. But I guess they don't really train their staff well. Now I got a ruined face and ruined weekend plans. Thanks to you, Brow Bar.

By the way, I just received a text from the staff who did the waxing. At least she was concerned and was decent enough to say sorry. I still have not heard any word from the manager.

FP, I hope you could post this to your site so justice can be done and other customers will be forewarned. Thank you!

Yours truly,
Rose Balatbat
