Letter from a Reader: Benefit Brow Bar Burns Customer's Upper Lip During Waxing Procedure

Dear Fashion Pulis,

I am a nobody, but I would like to share with your readers my experience with Benefit Brow Bar.

I always had my unwanted hair removed at Benefit Brow Bar, Trinoma branch. Last Friday, January 2, I was there to have my upper lip hair waxed. I was so shocked that my lips got burned! The pictures above was how I looked yesterday morning.

I went back to Benefit Brow Bar, Trinoma to talk to the manager but unfortunately, I was told it was her day off. I got her number and called her to discuss the incident, but she wasn't picking up the phone. I know it was her day off, but I believe that there are exceptions, especially in a service industry when a manager's attention is crucial in special emergencies like in my case. I was so disgusted. I sent them an email and as I write this, still got no response.

I trusted Benefit Brow Bar and had been their loyal and paying customer for a long time. I held on that they would stay true to their promise: " Every Benefit Brow Bar is staffed with licensed professionals, highly trained in the art of brow shaping, so they’re always ready to wax and tweeze, primp and please. " But how can I be pleased when they burned me? And worse, they did not attend to me at all?

I pay Php500 for the waxing everytime, it is pricey compared to others, but I didn't mind because I wanted to be assured of safety. But I guess they don't really train their staff well. Now I got a ruined face and ruined weekend plans. Thanks to you, Brow Bar.

By the way, I just received a text from the staff who did the waxing. At least she was concerned and was decent enough to say sorry. I still have not heard any word from the manager.

FP, I hope you could post this to your site so justice can be done and other customers will be forewarned. Thank you!

Yours truly,
Rose Balatbat

    5. petroleum jelly lang solusyon dito. I got my upper lip burned too when I had it waxed pero I applied petroleum jelly on it and nawala agad, didn't even leave a scar Dapat alam ng mga nagpapawax ang simpleng tips na ganito hindi yung biglang report agad. Kumbaga dapat last resort na yung pagreport. Atat makapagcomplain?

  3. Uh oh, crazy waxing bar and salons on the loose!

Pero on a serious note, I think not all staff ng mga waxing salon ay licensed professionals. They dont even look like one. They should be displaying their license card or photocopy man lng sa nkaassigned na booth nila pra alam tlga ng customers db?

  6. If you didnt get any response from the TRINOMA management. You can direct your concern to the main office. You may also wanna try someone from the upper management, ie Vice President. Look for the email and send your concern and all the deets of Trinoma's replies

Go to amazon and buy surgiwax (yung no microwave) and much safer pa. I do this routinely.

  11. price of vanity. pero, what can we do? the girl who did the waxing will soon be fired. feeling ko may mga salon na namagpapapirma ng waiver sa mga kliyente

  12. I'm sorry for what happened to you pero I think di na muna dapat ipublicize kagad. It happened January 2 and you returned on a weekend. Most likely, the main office is still close at this time para sagutin ang reklamo. You said you called the manager but the latter did not pick up the phone. Did you send a text to relay your problem? I think it's wrong naman to impute bad faith on the manager's part kagad. Didn't you talk to the manager on the day your upper lip got burned? Sabi mo kasi you returned to speak to the manager but it was her day off so I assume 2 separate days yun.

While Benefit should fix the damage to the reader, the latter should have opted to settle the matter privately.

    1. i agree with you. at may agreement n sila ng staff. antayin muna nya ang feedback ng manager. sa kanilang 2 ng staff mas naaawa ako s staff. cgurado tanggal sya s trabaho. sabi nga nya depressed din sya. ung reader nagkaroon ng idea s burned n eyebrow.

    2. You should've waited for the managers reply muna and if hindi mo nagustuhan and hindi ka natulungan sa demands mo dun mo na lang sana sinend sa fp. While i emphatize with you, the staff was humble enough din kase to admit her mistake. Anyway goodluck to you and sana mawala kagad yang burn.

      Delete
    3. Correct 1:30 and while I sympathize with you I hope you considered the consequence of your action. They for sure did not want to inflict harm or such thing to happen. Apparently, heads will be rolling and you'd never know how many tummys that wax lady feeds.

      Delete
    4. Though not intentionally done to hurt the customer, the incident should have a quick response from the manager / head office.

      Delete
    5. True. She should've waited muna for the management's plan or action. Yup weekend so walang office probably. Pano kung magkasundo pala sila once na nakausap niya na yun management and may maganda naman palang agreement or nagcompromise, so nasira yun pangalan ng establishment? For sure wala naman may gusto mangyari yan. And the staff was humble enough to apologize and beg off. Sana she waited muna for the management's action. Di naman 'to tulad sa isang salon na owner na mismo nakausap niya and walang nangyari or napagkasunduan. Think before you click muna sana.

    6. at maka emergency si ateng - life and death ba? hindi po yan emergency. please wag mong isipin na ikaw lang customer na dapat pagsilbihan sa loob ng ilang araw.

    7. Agree Anon 12:47. Kailan mo pinagawa, Jan 2, and kaka Jan 5 pa lang, sandwiched days are Sabado, Linggo, though I feel sorry for you na they burned your skin, pero if naka off nga, I don't think the manager can be even held liable for not replying to you as soon as you wish. This is not another hairshaft moment na they ignored you for a long time tapos wala ginagawa or hinaharass ka. I just hope you have given them more time to respond, kaysa magpublish ng hate lang agad2.

Also, isn't it may skin testing before i-apply talaga sa target area, they will first ask you if mainit ba or hindi? Why didn't you say it agad na mainit masyado? Even if ng inapply na sa area, pwede mo naman sabihin na ang init pala masyado. If you did, then the damage won't be as bad, I am sure.

    8. Agree! She said it herself that she kept on going to Benefit kahit mahal for her, so it is definitely unintentional. Give them a chance.

      Delete
    9. I totally agree! I think it is much proper if she waited for the reply of the manager before she aired her concern publicly.

      Delete
    10. agree. makareact naman si ateng wagas. alam nya sa sarili nyang day off yung manager at ngayong Jan. 5 ang balik ng business hours. sana naghintay na lang muna ng weekdays. kainis din. makareklamo kala mo first time sa salon na yun e regular customer pala. asar na asar lang siguro dahil nacancel ang weekend date dahil sa nangyari bwahaha.

  24. So kawawa naman :-( dapat kc ma kuntento tayo what god gave us.

  25. Ruined face? I don't think so. Masyado lang yatang pinalaki agad yung issue. Sabi naman nung staff kakausapin pa yung manager kung ano gagawin about it, right? The brow bar staff who made the mistake is willing to make amends sa case mo, unlike dun sa nangyari sa isang recent post about hairshaft na arogante yung nagkamali...pero dahil ba may nagsend before nung nangyari sa Hairshaft, ganito na din agad ang course of action?

  28. There's a form na need i fill up bago ka magundergo ng session, baka she is using whitening product/s. Been a loyal Benefit Browbar customer for the past three years, they would even test the wax to your skin prior to the procedure. And I must say, si Jas ang isa sa pinaka okay gumawa sa kanila :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. actually hindi naman talaga inaadvise ang waxing sa upper lip bec mataas ang chance na masunog talaga... ikaw ba ang naginsist ng waxing? how many times have you had this done?

    ReplyDelete
  30. THIS COMPLAINT IS TOO SOON AND A LITTLE INSENSITIVE. I feel sorry for what happened to you but the alleged burnt happened the day after January 2 and it's only January 5! Meaning to say you have composed this letter to Fashion Pulis on the 3rd or 4th of January (because this got published here in the morning of January 5th) and that makes me feel like you exaggerated the "I wrote them an email and still got no response" part. Like you said, the manager was on his off and I think it is not fair that you judge him as irresponsible for not picking up his phone. Hell I run my own business and leave my phone behind for holiday vacations. The next wise thing to do after not getting a response was to take it to the higher authority, which in this case is Benefit Philippines. It's so easy to look up and google their contact number and main office branch, girl! Don't get me wrong here, I feel for your pain right now. Good luck!

Anyhow, it happened to me na rin but I was the one who waxed my upper lip hair with veet strip, masakit sha and mahapdi pero hindi sha nagka roon ng scar and then I realized nakalimutan ko lagyan muna ng powder bago ilagay yung strip.

  36. Yung parang mga allergies sa skin mo sa mukha mo was that part of the after effect?

    ReplyDelete
  37. oo nga ateng yung sa 2nd pic may parang mga kung anoano sa face mo? pimples or rashes? baka may ginagamit ka sa face mo na nagreact dun sa ginamit sayo when you were waxed.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I use strip wax at home for my upper lip hair removal. Sometimes, I accidentally peel off my skin. But the "lapnos" doesn't bother me because I immediately put Human Heart Nature's Sunflower Beauty Oil on the affected area/s. The following day, the affected part has dried but I still put on the oil. After at least 3 days, my skin is totally healed. Just sharing my experience.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ayun na nga ang sinasabi ko. Ksp level lang. Masyado premature ang reklamo. Ateng, tulad mo naka bakasyon din yung ibang tao. Naturally, they cannot reply asap. In emergency cases, oo tatawagan ka. I swear, malayo sa bituka yan!

    ReplyDelete
  47. ate eksaherada ka, may karapatan ding magbakasyon ang mga tao, porket manager wala ng karapatan mag bakasyon? over the top exxageration.. pa derma ka nalang..

Hindi ko magets bakit may pa spread the word spread the word pa so that justice can be done daw?!?!?!?!?! Sabi pa niya they did not attend to me AT ALL pero sinabi din niya namang nireplyan siya ng staff na sobrang nagsosorry. Nagcocontradict lahat ng sinsabi niya. Social media exposure lang gusto nito.

  54. i always have my upper lip and brow waxed from benefit.

I am with Benefit this time. She probably used some whitening cream or peeling cream.

  55. I know Jasmin... she's a nice girl. She's the one who waxes my eyebrows. And yes, there's a waiver you have to sign before they do the procedure.
