Older millenial here. I grew up without social media. Nag start sya nung college ako - Friendster, Myspace, Multiply. Social media was fun back then. Afterwards dun nag start ang blogging. Andami kong binabasang blogs noon, when bloggers were passionate about their interests.
I've seen the evolution of social media, and I don't like it. Nowadays it's about pasikatan and pabonggahan. No wonder the youth are always comparing themselves with each other. Ang lala din ng bullying. People are not afraid of bashing each other.
What's my point? Social media can be a drug. Social media can be toxic. Nakaka high ang likes and validation. But when people don't like you, they will drag you down even if they don't know you.
Same..friendster pa dati..yung problema natin padamihan ng testimony...true na masaya ang social media dati, now puro bashing nlng kahit simpleng post lang kaya i don't post sa social media..i also filter what comes out from my feeds..yung hindi kinakaya ng mental health ko d ko na tinitignan...i value my mental health more kaya i try to take less time and more on watching happy videos lang but i check naman whats happening now na alam kong depressing from time to time..
OFW here and the only purpose i use socmed is for communication with my family and very few friends from long time ago. I know some people na ginawa na ring source of income ang socmed sukdulang magpost ng mga fake news! Sad....
I’m an older milennial too, and I’ve deactivated all my socials years ago. It was easy for me to do because College na ako when it’s started. I know how it is to live without social media and scrolling nonstop.
yep parang ang chill nung early 2000s Myspace Friendster multiply dota and ragna. if may social bullying man na hindi talaga maiiwasap hindi kasing lala today. Ewan parang yung generation natin yung idgaf attitude hahaha
Friendster was just like an online autograph book. Did I remember it right? Autograph book ang tawag sa written personal info, likes and dislikes, favourites, message sa'yo, who's your crush etc. nung 80s and 90s. Ginagawa yun sa school especially before graduation. Ganun lang friendster dati. Online nga lang. Tapos may music sa background. Testimonials given by people who know you. They would send their congratulations kung nakapasa ka ng board, first car, first house. Pag mayron kang achievement and gusto mong ibrag (yeah brag lol wag na tayong pahumble.) Ganun din sila say your congratulations if they have an achievement. Kumbaga once in a awhile. It's not an everyday thing. Then suddenly un mga kabatch kong millennials naging everyday habit na siya in friendster and FB. Na ooff ako when they started posting their everyday mundane life. Like really? Naglaba, nagluto, umutot lahat pinopost. Nawala na un scarcity, magic. Like the need to constantly inform everyone about your life, when in truth and in fact they don't give a d@mn. The fact that you can be easily reached ang ayaw ko. So now 10 years na akong walang Facebook, I never downloaded tiktok and if not waiting for an important call, my phone is always silent. I don't feel the need to be easily reached out by anybody. Kahit kakilala pa kita.
Marian and Dingdong did the right thing when they disallow gadgets to their children. They're engaged in sports and music. While si bunso taekwondo yata. I mean that's what parents should be. Lead the way, decide based on what you think is the best for your kid. I really think social media is not for the sensitive, emotional and vulnerable people. Not to mention it's a total waste of precious time if you're not earning from it. Anyway, RIP young lady. Your parents and family must be truly devastated by your untimely demise. May you find peace and comfort in the loving arms of God.
Yes! The Friendster Testimonials where you get to say good things about other people. Now, social media is all about pabonggahan and endless bashing :(
I am a millenial too not active in social media anymore deactivated na yung FB twitter and official Ig ko meron akong private IG na walang post I only used it to browse for time killing para sa mga healthy non toxic accounts na finafollow ko. a gen z workmates asked me how can I survive haha sabi ko sa kanya mas peaceful ang life ko I have nothing to prove to anyone so why would I feel bad wala din ako sineseek na validation
This is true. The misuse of Socmed is way too much. Beter tlaga to use it in moderation. Kids nowadays always seek for validation from. Kaya the future generation must be taught that gadgets and socmed must be used on essential stuff lang. and yun nga to always be kind to one another
RIP Eman. Please dont get me wrong i dont wanna sound like i dont have empathy. I swear i do I am a millenial and i think we were made tough and we know when to stop. Its sad that despite being weak and despite being bashed she continued as she said the reason is she got addicted to it Lets remember folks if you hate the feeling of being bashed dont put your life out in the open aka social media cause you will never please everyone
10:01 Millennials had it hard for the first 20-25 years of their lives. Especially un mga generations before them. Hindi easy access ang lahat. Hindi madali ang lahat. Walang internet to provide information to answer your question. Walang app to cater to your needs or wants. Old school talaga. You want answers, do your research. Go to the library, ask the intelligent. You want food, go to the resto or supermarket. You want money, go to the bank or ATM. You want something, go to mall. Nadapa pa ko dati kakahabol sa jeep. Unlike now susunduin ka pa sa bahay. Unlike now anything and everything can be delivered at home.
723 No she didn’t get addicted to social media, what she meant was she got anxious whenever she posts something because of the hate comments that she receives.
1044 Naging addicted na din siya kasi nakalagay dun sa post na chinecheck niya un notifications niya every few minutes, hyper aware of the hate comments. You will not check your phone every few minutes kung hindi ka addicted sa social media. And most likely addicted naman ang mga kabataan ngayon sa social media. The ones who are in the same age bracket as her. Whose opinions doesn't really matter offline. Kaya sa online naghahasik ng lagim.
This is whats sad…social media or being an influencer is not for the faint hearted… we have to be tough and ready cause not everyone will like you… Mental health is a very sensitive topic and we should be looking after each other… If the real nepo babies at anak ng magnanakaw commited suicide will it be the same
Napaka unfair na tawagin siyang nepo baby because neither of her parents are in politics. Her father worked so hard on tv. Malinis na profession yun. The real nepo babies are the ones na anak ng TONGRESSMAN na may unli access to money. Those b1@tches are the real nepo babies.
This is sad. Wala naman kasalanan yung bata why so much hate? Problema nyo? I follow her on toiktok pa naman and never a single negative word may sinabi sko thank God.
I dont understand where the hate is coming from. Dami na ba bobo at tanga? Dami na ba stressed? Dami na ba inggit? At the end of the day, Emman is just a girl trying to live her life.
i dont know this Emman at all but when you say “a girl trying to live her life” then those nepo babies can also say the same thing? wag tayong double standard. just because di nya kinaya. i think it’s good that people are called out for bad behavior overall. if one has mental health issues they should not be doing things what can result to them being bashed. she did some things that irked some people and got called out. she seemed intelligent naman.
just the same, it’s a sad and nonsense loss, but she chose this lifesty despite her mental health issues. nobody could have protected her but herself. she was young but not a minor. i bet she got advice frim her parents which she ignored.
she met amazing people in tiktok? there is nothing authentic in someones comment made while sitting on a toilet...Rest in Peace girl.TikTok is not a place to find adoration, it aint real and it aint lasting...
I don’t have tiktok neither my kids. Thank goodness! This is one of the main reasons why we never installed the app. They have IG for memes and inspo fashion and recipes. I deleted mine(IG) for many years ago, bec I hate to see how people trying to outdo one another.
Let's try to be "nicer" everyday. Even sa mga tsismis sites like this kasi possible na nagbabasa din yung mga involve sa tsismis dito. It's depressing to read comments and bashing.
maaan!!!.this is very sad! i honestly dnt know her until i saw posts about her passing away and finding out that she's the daughter of Kuya Kim. Everyone of us has our own political views, but can we at least be kind to one another?it's just sad knowing this and no parents should endure this. my sincere condolences to the whole family.
We have to understand that it was a world they were born with na.. 2006, may internet na. unlike us millenials na naabutan natin ang walang internet and then we watched the world evolved into what we have now.
We don't know everything. I read in the comments she's in therapy and that she was abused nung yaya niya when she's a kid. She's already mentally fragile then came the massive bashing on nepo babies. She took it hard obv
8:31pm kung unstable yung emotions nyo , sometimes you cant deal the negativity, stop using social media, or rest muna.. lalo kung may history kayo ng mental health ..
Mas ok kasi na walang TikTok, twitter, napaka toxic ng social media, affected na pala but still using it, if di kaya turn off the replies, you can still post and kung ano man ang message or content na gusto mo i share pwede pero you can control the replies turn it off, sa messages naman you can also not receive messages from people you don't follow, ang active nya pala sa TikTok
She was vulnerable because of past and current mental health issues , very opinionated and combative in soc med without knowledge or wisdom to back it up sometimes out of touch from lack of maturity, of course because she was only in her teens and sheltered, people was critical of her, she used soc med as an outlet, like moth playing with fire. Her parents didn’t guide her enough when she was growing up because they were chasing their dreams. When she posted her bare pic at 13 to someone she trusted and end up spreading it to the entire school, that broke her spirit, yet she still continued to use soc med as an outlet. That is a tragedy there. May she rest in peace.
True! Tipong text lang talaga sa friends and family. Ngayon kasi everything is just there.
Ganun pa man, let’s chose to be kind parin.
As a parent, the lesson from the same sudden loss of Mr. Buencamino’s daughter was instilled in me. Always check on your kids especially when they choose to be alone in their room, or the other way around appearing to be so “high” / extremely extrovert.
Not only because of social media.. sure nakadagdag yun pressure but she was diagnosed na with depression na when she was still a minor.
12:25 hndi natin alam. Baka ayaw paawat. Based on the things that she said doon sa toni talks talagang sya ang nasusunod sa lahat.
yeah, we can’t really blame a certain group of people, medyo complicated itong case nya, she was diagnosed with depression at an early age, sya daw lagi nasusunod ang gusto, etc
@12:36 DDS bullied and sent her death threats to the core! Tinamaan ka ba? Learn when to stop defending your political group and call them out sa mali.
She was cancelled many times nagpa apekto ba si Toni? Diba nga tinawag nyo pa syang "Not bothered Queen"? LOL
It’s sad how politics has turned into a reason to mock and divide. Respecting others’ opinions, even when they differ from ours, is what truly shows character and wisdom.
sabi nya she's insecure sa itsura nya. despite having a complete, normal body at walang kapansanan, she still feels kulang, kahit na filthy rich ang family compared sa ibang taong. she's got all the privileges and more. wala na kayo magagawa dun kung hindi pa rin yun sapat sa kanya. desisyon na nya yan. respect her decision.
Minsan mahirap if you take away all the problems of your child thinking that’s the way para maging ok lahat. Eh life is hard and people are cruel so pag naharap sa issues especially as a teen and in adulthood kahit maliit na bagay sobrasobrang laki na kasi malaki naman na nga yun para sa kanila. At such time, parents can’t control everything around the child anymore. Sya ang pnakabigay lahat compared to siblings.
So many selfish people these days.
Di ba pedeng “oy you look good today.”
It’s because from what I understand, her comments are anti-duterte and of course that’s fine but not everyone will agree with her. It goes both ways and all ways. Yun mga ibang kakampink nga sabi tinakwil nila family nila for being pro bbm/duterte. Cinancel na many times. Same with vice ganun din ang ginawa nya. You say bad things about someone na may madaming followers, fans, etc. of course those people will fight back. And same din of course the people who love her will fight for her.
9:04 gurl okay ka lang? while I agree on some part of your post pero to the point ang kapwa mo DDS nagmemessage sa kanya ng Death Threats and sasabihin mo ganun talaga? kapansanan na yang pagiging kulto nyo. yung sinasamba nyong ubod din ng sama
Sad n up to here issues about pinks and dds Guys lets admit pare pareho lang kayong nagpipintasan sa isat isa The word kulto etc then after that post ng be nice or be kind etc… If you wanna stop the hate stop pointing fingers cause your political veiws are not the same
1014 you have to also realize na normal na may dissenting opinions and different point of views politically pero to the point na may death threats? ibang usapan na yun and ibang level ng kasamaan na yun
Hindi malala no?
They clearly wrote there the reason why she passed and kung nasaan syang state.
I’m GenX and I enjoy Instagram. I used it as a reference, ang dami kung natutunan. Places/food and things to do. I only add family and close friends. I have FB but I’m not active for 10 years now, Kasi dami relatives and some friends naghihingi ng pera or nangungutang. I don’t like a post or content, I unfollow but I don’t post bad comments. Most of the time I’m happy with other people happiness.
Reddit? Depende siguro kung anong thread binabasa mo kasi helpful siya for me lalo na kapag naghahanap ako ng movie recommendations o kaya discussion about ending ng movies.
Pampatulog ko ang Reddit. Binabasa ko dun mga conspiracy theories about science, metaphysics, and politics (about kay JFK at sa mga aliens). For me hindi toxic ang Reddit. Ang daming topics dun, iba iba.
Regardless of the social media, As a parent dapat talaga me guidance pa din ang bata, working or not working, no excuses. Isama mo pa yung relationship with God, no offense pero nowadays dyan nagkukulang ang karamihan ng parents. Lalo na na now iba na talaga yung generation. Wag isisi lahat sa social media or sa ibang tao. I believe kapag me proper guidance and good relationship with the daughter or son, malayo or malapit kahit papaano maiiwasan mga ganito. This is my opinion as a parent.
Ngayon simple likes and comments would cause so much anxiety and depression! As a parent, sobrang crucial ng guidance natin sa mga anak. Oo hindi natin kontrolado ang kilos ng mga bata 24/7 but spending time with them and constantly giving "sermon" to them I think would go a long way kahit pano. Hindi pwedeng we will just give them total freedom eh. We need to let them know na we care. Akin lang naman to. Hehe
Walang control ang magulang dahil social media is now designed to reward outrage, despair, hypersexuality, violence, and doomerism dahil yun ang nakakakuha ng clicks. The govt has to step in.
Shes 19? She had mental problems. Shes living away from her parents. Shes wealthy. She got bashed for the guess the receipt nonsense she was doing. She was apparently abused by her yaya. Her parents are wealthy and powerful. Where were they? Saan sila? Ano nangyari sa yaya. This is a much more complex than "social media killed her." Uh. No. She had problems. Including affluence and her family situation.

ReplyDeleteIt’s Filipino culture aka bottom of Asia culture
DeleteNag-start yun dun sa "Guess the dinner bill" post nya na 130K.
DeleteNabash sya ng malala bec instead of apologizing, she said she was not responsible for the wealth disparity in the Philippines.
She also used BTS, Nadine Lustre, and other celebrities as examples to argue that these wealthy individuals were not redistributing their wealth.

Deleteshe met amazing people in tiktok? there is nothing authentic in someones comment made while sitting on a toilet...Rest in Peace girl.TikTok is not a place to find adoration, it aint real and it aint lasting...
ReplyDeleteI don’t have tiktok neither my kids. Thank goodness! This is one of the main reasons why we never installed the app. They have IG for memes and inspo fashion and recipes. I deleted mine(IG) for many years ago, bec I hate to see how people trying to outdo one another.
DeleteAko rin never ko nagustuhan ang tiktok. Feeling ko napakalat and gulo ng tiktok
DeleteIG matagal na ko wala - sobrang OA na ng m ga post, sa Tiktok it cringes me seeing people dance sa tapat ng camera.
DeleteLet's try to be "nicer" everyday. Even sa mga tsismis sites like this kasi possible na nagbabasa din yung mga involve sa tsismis dito. It's depressing to read comments and bashing.
ReplyDeletemaaan!!!.this is very sad! i honestly dnt know her until i saw posts about her passing away and finding out that she's the daughter of Kuya Kim. Everyone of us has our own political views, but can we at least be kind to one another?it's just sad knowing this and no parents should endure this. my sincere condolences to the whole family.
ReplyDeleteOver tiktok??? Omggg peer pressure sa social media is reallll!! Pls uninstall muna girls pag unstable ang emotions nyo. TAKE A BREAK FROM SOCIAL MEDIA
ReplyDeleteWe have to understand that it was a world they were born with na.. 2006, may internet na. unlike us millenials na naabutan natin ang walang internet and then we watched the world evolved into what we have now.
DeleteWe don't know everything. I read in the comments she's in therapy and that she was abused nung yaya niya when she's a kid. She's already mentally fragile then came the massive bashing on nepo babies. She took it hard obv
Korek. Prioritize yourselves.
Delete8:31pm kung unstable yung emotions nyo , sometimes you cant deal the negativity, stop using social media, or rest muna.. lalo kung may history kayo ng mental health ..
DeleteMas ok kasi na walang TikTok, twitter, napaka toxic ng social media, affected na pala but still using it, if di kaya turn off the replies, you can still post and kung ano man ang message or content na gusto mo i share pwede pero you can control the replies turn it off, sa messages naman you can also not receive messages from people you don't follow, ang active nya pala sa TikTok
ReplyDeleteShe was vulnerable because of past and current mental health issues , very opinionated and combative in soc med without knowledge or wisdom to back it up sometimes out of touch from lack of maturity, of course because she was only in her teens and sheltered, people was critical of her, she used soc med as an outlet, like moth playing with fire.
ReplyDeleteI agree on your pov.
DeleteSocial media is demonic
ReplyDeleteTrue! Tipong text lang talaga sa friends and family. Ngayon kasi everything is just there.
DeleteAgree
DeleteBullied sya nun high school .
Ganun pa man, let’s chose to be kind parin.
ReplyDeleteIt’s so sad that social media killed her…
ReplyDeleteSocial media should be banned. My gosh. What a waste of life. She's got so much ahead of her..
ReplyDeleteDi ba? Hindi ginusto ng mga bata na ipanganak sila in this cruel world kaya responsibilidad nila anak nila in all aspect
DeleteGirl, you let people beneath you drag you to their level. Rest in peace 😞
ReplyDeleteAs a parent, the lesson from the same sudden loss of Mr. Buencamino’s daughter was instilled in me. Always check on your kids especially when they choose to be alone in their room, or the other way around appearing to be so “high” / extremely extrovert.
ReplyDeleteSoc med is becoming so toxic. Parents always guide your child.
ReplyDeleteNot only because of social media.. sure nakadagdag yun pressure but she was diagnosed na with depression na when she was still a minor.
ReplyDeleteIf ganun, why let he be alone in LA. :(
DeleteNo blaming but sadly this might be her time that way and to teach us a lesson
12:25 hndi natin alam. Baka ayaw paawat. Based on the things that she said doon sa toni talks talagang sya ang nasusunod sa lahat.
DeleteTapos yung nangbabash sakanya noon nakiki sympathize ngayon??? Hypocrite
ReplyDeletePano po naman nalaman?
Delete1118 meron ngang lawyer nag comment pa ng di maganda and if you read the comments ang lala
ReplyDeletewhy putting the blame on DDS? or other people. Its her reaction and her action
Deleteyeah, we can’t really blame a certain group of people, medyo complicated itong case nya, she was diagnosed with depression at an early age, sya daw lagi nasusunod ang gusto, etc
Delete@12:36 DDS bullied and sent her death threats to the core! Tinamaan ka ba? Learn when to stop defending your political group and call them out sa mali.
She was cancelled many times nagpa apekto ba si Toni? Diba nga tinawag nyo pa syang "Not bothered Queen"? LOL
DeleteIt’s sad how politics has turned into a reason to mock and divide.
ReplyDeleteMinsan mahirap if you take away all the problems of your child thinking that’s the way para maging ok lahat.
DeleteResult of abuse as a child.
Delete1:20 GREAT PERSPECTIVE.
So many selfish people these days.
Di ba pedeng “oy you look good today.”
DeleteIt’s because from what I understand, her comments are anti-duterte and of course that’s fine but not everyone will agree with her.
Delete9:04 gurl okay ka lang? while I agree on some part of your post pero to the point ang kapwa mo DDS nagmemessage sa kanya ng Death Threats and sasabihin mo ganun talaga? kapansanan na yang pagiging kulto nyo. yung sinasamba nyong ubod din ng sama
Sad n up to here issues about pinks and dds
The word kulto etc then after that post ng be nice or be kind etc…
If you wanna stop the hate stop pointing fingers cause your political veiws are not the same
1014 you have to also realize na normal na may dissenting opinions and different point of views politically pero to the point na may death threats? ibang usapan na yun and ibang level ng kasamaan na yun
Hindi malala no?
DeleteCongrats, trolls. You finally broke the camel's back.
ReplyDeleteDon’t blame trolls May prob talaga yung bata sad the parents are not around
DeleteSa TMZ ko pa nakita news since di ko sya kilala. Nagulat ako at Atienza ang last name and naka write doon na anak ng Filipino TV host. They clearly wrote there the reason why she passed and kung nasaan syang state.
ReplyDeleteI’m GenX and I enjoy Instagram.
ReplyDeleteSo far pinaka toxic na apps are: X (formerly twitter), reddit and tiktok. Meron ding bullies sa facebook but dali lang ma trace
ReplyDeleteReddit malala!!
DeleteReddit? Depende siguro kung anong thread binabasa mo kasi helpful siya for me lalo na kapag naghahanap ako ng movie recommendations o kaya discussion about ending ng movies.
DeletePampatulog ko ang Reddit. Binabasa ko dun mga conspiracy theories about science, metaphysics, and politics (about kay JFK at sa mga aliens). For me hindi toxic ang Reddit. Ang daming topics dun, iba iba.
DeleteRegardless of the social media, As a parent dapat talaga me guidance pa din ang bata, working or not working, no excuses.
ReplyDeleteLOUDER ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
Delete4:10 lol this is bad advice. Religious trauma is real.
Hehe
ReplyDeleteWalang control ang magulang dahil social media is now designed to reward outrage, despair, hypersexuality, violence, and doomerism dahil yun ang nakakakuha ng clicks. The govt has to step in.
DeleteGrabe mga pinagdaanan ni Emman since childhood.. May she rest in peace. 🙏🏼
ReplyDeleteShes 19? She had mental problems. Shes living away from her parents. Shes wealthy. She got bashed for the guess the receipt nonsense she was doing. She was apparently abused by her yaya. Her parents are wealthy and powerful. Where were they? Saan sila? Ano nangyari sa yaya. This is a much more complex than "social media killed her." Uh. No. She had problems. Including affluence and her family situation.
