Sad but that is the reality.

    2. Payag ako basta isang buong litson baboy at baka bawat gig ko. Kasama pa kawayan.

    3. The events coordinator of the mall is at fault corruption at its finest

      Delete
    4. being an artist is a vocation not a profession.

      Delete
    5. Hahaha 1:58 agree. Pati kawayan iuwi.

    6. Maling mali. This is really ridiculous.

    7. Bastusan yung ganito. So bakit pagkain lang .Ano sila Kadamay?

      Delete
    8. I'm glad Juan brought this up to public's attention. Hopefully more people will understand the struggle of up and coming artists to be recognized and their talents to be duly compensated.

      Delete
Kakainsulto yung ganito

      Delete
    10. 5:42, it can be both for some. And besides, if it is a VOCATION, then the more that one has to emphasize the importance of what he's doing, by placing premium value on it.

I bet you work for them, huh. Damage control much?

      Delete
    3. Mali naman kasi...

      Delete
    4. Why not?

      Delete
    5. This is needed. Kawawa yunv mga small time nagraraket.

      Delete

      Delete
    8. He didn't even mention the mall. Stop.

      Delete
    9. And your point is?

      Delete
    10. First 1:52 comment, he mentioned the mall’s name... reading comprehension naman dyan please. Go!!! Then stop.

      Delete
    11. 2:03 where???? How many malls are there in Eastwood? Lol!

      Delete
    12. Puro kayo "usap in private".

      Delete
    13. 12:26 Minention ba nya kung anung mall? Marunong ka ba magbasa? Basa ulit

      Delete
    14. Eastwood is an entire location, not a mall 2:03

      Delete
    15. Dude, hindi ako artist. Pero yun ang ikinabubuhay nila. Talent.

      Delete
    16. Siguro may mga things meant to be kept in private but like what I always see sa mga support groups ng artists or workers.. Nagsshare sila sa experience about this for the purpose of NOT ACCEPTING THIS KIND OF PAYMENT.

      Delete
    17. why not? dapat talaga isinisiwalat ang ganyang kalakaran! inviting artist for free meal? bakit ka pa maginvite if ayaw mo magbayad? malabo naman na wala kang pangbayad kasi mall event nga sya di ba?

      Delete

      Delete
    19. Lol ok. I did not know that. He obviously said, a certain mall in Eastwood but not mentioning what.😅

      Delete
    20. Buraot siguro ng artist to si 12:26 hahaha

      Delete
    21. And for crying out loud, the mall is going to 'use' the artist to entice people to visit the place and their establishments - bottomline, kikita si mall. So si artist ano?

      Delete
  4. Wow ang bastos nung mall na yon. Sila kaya magtrabaho na walang sweldo PAYAG?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Now that is really insulting. They might not be as popular, but come on! They got bills to pay, too! They aren't small kids that you can bribe with food!

    1. then dont be an artist pls google. be a celebrity instead.

      Delete
    2. 5:41 so pag artist Hindi dapat binabayaran? What kind of thinking is that?
I have artist friends and when they are commissioned to do something, they get paid. A lot. So where does your logic comes from?

      Delete
    3. 5:41 I don't need Google to know when a person's worth is being insulted.

      Delete
    4. 5:41, remember that there are some celebrities with no talents, too.

      Delete
    5. Well 5:41, Juan Miguel Severo is already both - an ARTIST who has CELEBRITY status. I admire him for standing up to this establishment in PUBLIC - pampalakas loob din sa fellow artists nya na nag-iisip na okay lang palaging free 'for exposure' lang ang treatment sa kanila.

    5. Ano trabaho mo nung baguhan ka? Say bank teller ka. Mag offer syo ng free breakfast and lunch everyday, tanggapin mo? Tapos hindi ka rin pwede mag protest o mag complain against it kasi nags start ka pa lang.

    11. He already has published several books, starred in several movies and teleseryes, wrote plays, wrote in some teleseryes and just wrote Manoy Eddie's last movie Hintayan ng Langit.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Sa panahon ngayon may ganyan pa rin?! Jusko kawawa ang mga artists sa Pinas

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't think he posted this para sa mga "woke" and para ibash ng netizens yung mall. If that was his intention pinangalanan niya sana. Most likely he's doing this for awareness. He's just defending his profession na bigyan naman sana sila kahit konting value.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I know someone na photographer. He posted like this din the other day. An old friend reached out to him to do a family photo shoot and offered him "pa-snacks" after. He DECLINED. Hello? Seryoso ba mga ganyang galawan free meals for the person's effort????

I just find this whole pa-woke ilabas-lahat-ng-angst-sa-social-media culture tiresome and narcissistic.

      Delete

Juan Miguel Severo did the right thing by expressing this on social media EXACTLY BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO EXPOSE ON A PUBLIC PLATFORM. He wasn't just 'complaining' for the sake of - he is furthering the rights of other artists to assert their worth, and encouraging them to not be afraid to express it too.

      Delete
    5. That's your opinion and I respect that but I stand my own opinion din.

      Delete
    6. 12:57 you find it tiresome that people fight for respect and deserve rights? you are what is wrong with the filipino culture because clearly, you’re asleep. just stay watching your teleseryes and go.

WTF. that's not a good deal. bayaran na lang nila ng tama ung tao

    3. ikaw @150, alukin ka instead of sweldo, 6 months worth of meals, payag ka?

Onli in da pilipinas!

  20. real artists dont do craft for money. they do it out of passion. most artists know they wont earn but still they do it. what your doing is business darling dont label it artistry.

    1. Wait lang tita, for the record nag peperform siya ng libre for events like fund raising and frequent speaker din siya sa alternative classroom learning activities in UP. Kikita yung mall kasi papanuorin siya. Gagamitin siya pang market. Do you think that's fair?

      Delete
    2. Talaga lang ha! So artists don’t get paid for what they do? Maybe they do not charge exhorbitant fee but they still charge. You know nothing, whoever you are

      Delete
    3. Being an artist means having your own craft, whic has value in itself. A lot of people use it for a living so they can earn while doing something they love. Hindi porke passion nila e ibig sabihin libre dapat. Labo mo.

      Delete
    4. So sila Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, etc. hindi true artists kasi naniningil sila? You can earn money doing something youre passionate about if you decide to pursue it as a career. Isip isip naman.

  22. This is really insulting. If the inviter was a charitable institution I would understand but a mall? That is just way disrespectful and exploitative. Malls charge an arm and a leg for rent and they have the gall to ask this and reason this way? Kudos to this guy for calling this out and saying no.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mali naman yun mall. Mag invite tapos free meals lang. Ako rin naman mag decline. Pano kung sa araw na yun may event ako na pagkakakitaan ko tapos ipagpapalit ko para dyan, no way! Kahit wala gagawin, di na rin. Pamasahe pa lang gastos na. Nakakainsulto nman yan.

    ReplyDelete

      Delete
  24. He was asked. Privately. He could have declined. Just as privately. And no, i do not work for that mall. This is supposed to be a symbiotic relationship - the mall is able to mount an event (which i assume is non-ticketed) with minimal expense, and he gets to promote his craft. What should have been a non-issue, he made a big deal of.
Sus, ang simple lang huminde. It's acts like this that make Social Media a bane.

The moment na naisip ng mall people na okay lang to pay artist with food instead of their actual fee is sobrang nakakababa.

      Delete
    6. Read the comments above. Yes, he could have done it privately but he exposed this experience to ward off similar offers and also to warn others not to accept these kinds of offers. Kailangan naman talaga i call out.

      Delete
    7. 1236, a lot of talents started that way but that doesn't ever make it right. I'm glad this became a public talking point and hopefully make things a little better. He wasn't asking for thousands of pesos but even a beginner, which he definitely isn't, doesn't deserve only a meal as compensation. I'm sad you don't think this is an issue and I hope you have never treated anyone this way.

      Delete
    8. 12:36 hindi mo ba nagegets. We are not supposed to encourage this type of culture that’s why he’s calling them out. Buti sana kung exdeal like gadgets or something really valuable. Nasa mall ang event so ibig sabihin may budget sila. Pero for artists wala. Only meals?? But that’s the point. Dont take advantage dahil alam mong gipit. Offer them the appropriate rate.

    9. Haunty, JMS has already published several books, starred in several movies and teleseryes, is the most popular spoken word artist in the PH today (at nagi-gig siya out of town which I'm sure is bayad), and even wrote Eddie Garcia's last movie. Hindi siya non-issue!

  30. I don't see anything wrong sa reklamo niya. I work as a professional artist and so does my husband. This is our livelihood, we invest in our equipment and we have bills to pay. We are more inclined to accept paid gigs over x-deals because kailangan din naman namin mabuhay. LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Xdeal tawag diyan diba? The mall will highlight the upcoming artist's name thru their marketing collaterals para magka exposure,in return, the upcoming artist will entertain the customers.

    Just my two cents.

    1. 12:37 xdeals usually involve non-monetary items na valuable like gadgets, memberships, lifetime supply of services. Pero meals??? Meals??? Anoyan pulubi? You have to understand na itinatama natin ang mali. It’s about time na iencourage natin na may sapat na kabayaran ang mga service providers. Hindi enough ang promise of exposure dahil walang kasiguraduhan na maglelead yan into more lucrative offers.

      Delete
    2. Siszt, di na nya kailangan ng exposure. His name is big enough

      Delete

Pwede ba yon? Before you say na that's what the artistas do, not really, they wear the clothes and return them after.

talent = service so any service you render, you should get compensated. A meal is not compensation, basic requirement yun kapag tumanggap ka ng gig. :|

  32. Wag nyo na itolerate ang ganitong kalakaran.Nakakainsulto sa mga talents.Dapatvkung may event, may nakalaang budget.Otherwise wag kayong magpaevent.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  34. @1237AM - Xdeals are common but the deals are usually substantial meaning if they can't give cash, they'll give an equivalent say in gift cards or vouchers for their stores so the talent can shop or dine in their mall stores and restos for an amount equivalent to what would have been their talent fee. They would also usually throw in transportation arrangement and accommodations. This is standard for exdeals. Pero barat talaga si mall which is ironic since they position themselves as upscale haha.

    ReplyDelete
  35. True 9:55! Meals are usually a standard inclusion na pag may event ka na inorganize, and you have suppliers and talents.

Shame on you.
