    3. Yan pala si Erik Matti. Hawig ko pala siya.

    4. he is making a hasty generalization because he's having an artist block. Its like a writer's block or a mental block. Well, that is not the problem of Philippine Cinema, maybe it is Matti's own problem.

      Delete
    5. panong bitter? He is an expert on his field and I can just imagine his frustration.. Ako mga im just a regular person and the local movies just upset me everytime.. Rated A daw .But after watching ,I can tell its just a poor copy cat of a foreign movie, kung di naman rehashed version lang ng ibang local blockbusters. Sayang creative juices ng mga direktor tulad nya because very few patronize original and novel films.

      Delete
    6. Truth hurts. He tells the truth.

    7. 634 ako nman I will never ever watched movies na sobrang hype. Maski pa anong gype ng mga fantards. Kasi usually pinoy film very predictable na yan
      Lol, I'd rather watch netflix.

      Delete

Bitter pag may ibang namamayagpag na pelikula other than his.

      Delete
    10. 6:34 he is not an expert in this field.Wala nga siyang international citations like Brillante Mendoza or Segion Reyna. So hindi siya expert,he is still mediocre.

      Delete
    11. 634 expect, but can't make good movies?

      Delete

      Delete
    13. 10:40, you don’t need some citations to see how awful and horrible pinas movies are. Lol.

      Delete
    14. @139, ang malas mo naman

      Delete
    15. 4:52 you need accolades and citations if your claim to fame is you are the Showbiz authority or you are an expert in Philippine cinema.Otherwise, who will respect you?

  2. Eh sir. At wen de ramas.

Storylines that gone awry ang peg.

Also, true naman sabi ni Erik Matti. The Pinoy film industry got stuck with the usual rom-com, repeated genres of the moment.

Instead of breaking new grounds with new, fresh and unique materials, doon na lang all the time sa cookie-cutter formulaic type.

    2. Omg, super wrong kayung dalawa. You know nothing. These shows are fantasy shows. They are not based on reality. They have zombies, dragons, sorcerers or witches, a character that can change faces or come back to life numerous times, etc. They are like Lord of the Rings, beautifully made and well acted, unlike pinas films. Gets ninyo.

      Delete
    3. maybe because before coming up with a Hollywood movie they put in a lot of research before the project. Yung Hollywood may mga pelikulang 2 years in the making kaya maganda.

      Delete

      Delete
    5. Uhm...vampire diaries...icocompare sa lord of the rings, na apart from being a widely popular movie eh literary classic din ang source material?

      Delete
    6. 7:01, Tama ka. They are confused yata.

    7. 6:06, 1:05, you make no sense.

Hindi dahil sa quality but so many factors. Economic, weather, Netflix, Hbo tv shows & movies etc... So, try na lang mag produce ng new genre and new story. Kumbaga, parang Lotto na lang. Kung magustuhan ng tao eh di Jackpot!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Wrong, the quality is so horrible and the genre are all the same (the same love this, love that nonsense).

    2. 7:16 then again ,if its not your taste, don't watch.Simple.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Totoo yan baks. Yung movies at teleserye natin pwedeng panoorin while nagluluto o naglalaba ka.

    3. Omg, so true. I cringe every time I see pinas tv shows and movies. They are so badly made.

      Delete
    4. Totoo. Sa umpisa lang maganda, mga two weeks. Kasi yun lang ata yung natapos na nila ng matagal with editing and all. Tapos after that, papanget na ng papanget.

  8. If only the film industry will consistently make quality movies instead of having the typical slapstick formula. the mmff is such a joke seeing most of the entries with vic, vice and perhaps another installment of the really tired shake rattle and roll. quality must trump commercial viability so pinoy audience will be conditioned that what they will watch is worth every dime. yes people want to be entertained but enterianment must be achieved by appealing to a variety of emotions AND intellect. bobo ba ang pinoy audience? we need to up the ante bec this is how the industry will overcome its current challenges.

    1. this is the reason why we have Cinemalaya to showcase the artsy fartsy movies.

    2. quality flicks shouldnt be made just for festival. make it a regular commodity. reintroduce the industry as medium for the arts and not for easy money scheme with cheap stories banking on popular actors.

    3. So true. Our movies are so embarrassing.

      Delete
They know the difference.

    5. pinoy audience are not bobo! ginawa na nga ung mmff na puro quality films kaso ayaw talaga panoodin ng paying public eh. they are not bobo, they know which movie will give their money's worth. wag na ipilit yang mga quality movie kuno kasi hindi ako magalsaya ng pera para dyan. sa free tv lang yan or cable channel pinapanood not on cinema. kklk!

    4. Walang international awards si Matti to become an authority in the film industry.

      Delete
    5. Exactly. Agree with all of you. He's one to talk pero he can't even make his movie interesting

  10. Hollywood for the win lmao! You can always just make films for the pa-woke and pa-cool lol. Feeling high and mighty na above everyone else. Why don’t you hush up and let your great work speak for you? And then maybe the world will shift. Maybe the audience will slowly be captivated again by something different. Hindi yung whine ng whine for the sake of whining.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Marvel, DC at Disney 1-2 weeks? movie theaters are still crowded after a month kaya we usually wait kung hindi namin gusto makipagsabayan sa pila or go to drive in.

      Delete

      Delete
    3. Wrong. Hollywood movies are still very profitable, making money in the tens of billions worldwide.

      Delete

Just dont expect na kikita yan that much. Gone are the days na pinipilahan ang quality movies.

    2. Wrong ka. Pinas movies are mostly pabebe, pakilig, love-love nonsense. And they rehash it over and aver again just to make money. The same noisy, cheap, baduy, shallow nonsense.

      Delete

      Delete
    4. And besides hindi naman quality ung kanya (Matti). E di dun ka na sa magenjoy ka 😂

  13. Un/Fortunately, buying public ang staple viewers ng kapamilya and star cinema rules. Whether the movies are of good quality or not, the truth is they are patronized by the masses...

  14. Pinapatamaan niya sarili niya.

Wala magagawa. Malakas promotions ng star cinema dahil may sarili silang station and dala cla ng masang pilipino

    ReplyDelete
They just want to entertain, yung feel good movies, yung nakaka-relate sila, gusto nilang tumawa & kiligin . And that’s Pinoy! Yung talaga sila. But try din nilang gumawa ng Iba or something different, baka sakaling magustuhan nila but no guarantee na magiging blockbuster.

      Delete
    3. Buy bust and Maria lang yon alam kong nagtrend.

      Delete
  17. Kayo may kasalanan n’yan kase masyado kayong pa-deep kaya gumagawa kayo mismo ng sarili n’yong multo. No one needs a completely groundbreaking never been done story. People want what they want. That’s it. It’s not rocket science. You want it all. Critical acclaim and commercial box office? That’s rare. No one can have it all, Sir. In any industry, there are genres that cater to the mass market and those that are niche. That’s why in music, you have pop. In movies, you have mainstream commercial movies. The intellectuals kuno sneer at these genres like they’re more superior than the rest who enjoys these. Truth is, each genre has its own redeeming qualities and they all exist so that everyone can have a fill of what they want according to their tastes so it’s useless to question this much. Stop overthinking. Stop complaining. If you want profit, give the public what they want. If you want to go outside the box, risk losing the money. It’s one or the other. But never dictate to the public what they should and they shouldn’t want to see. That’s just condescending, snobbish, rude and ignorant. Respect everyone’s choices.

Gusto niyang maging batikan like Brillante Mendoza sa Cannes but he never had the chance kaya palaging parang may pinaglalaban.

      Delete
    2. Brillante Mendoza and his work looked timeless and has that international appeal after his Cannes success. Not only that but Brillante was lowkey and he let his projects speak.

      Delete
    3. I agree with this, of course arthouse films will never match yung hatak ng mainstream movies. Ever. Even sa hollywood films dumb movies like the fast and furious franchise eh pinipilahan time and time again...parang enteng kabisote lang or shake rattle and roll. Yung mga audience who grew up watching those movies will most likely take their children to watch the same movies as well. That's just how people are. Hindi yung mga movies na yun ang problema...i feel like it's the fact na wala kang means na i-market or ipromote ang movie mo sa pinas unless you are part of the two networks...or you suck at promoting like matti na lalong nagalienate ng viewers with his rants. Wala kang chance ng TV guesting, etc. unless artista ka sa major networks, and even sa ganung cases kung ang movie ay hindi produced by star cinema or viva eh hindi ka masyado makakapag promote, just a brief mention sa news and thats it. I dunno if it's a matter of taste, people just don't know about what a movie can offer cause walang platform (apart from the internet) kung saan pwedeng mapagusapan ang movie, maexpose yung cast, etc. Dahil din dun kaya tye audience tend to end up making assumptions about the movie (bakit di sikat ang cast, mukhang mabigat ang plot, etc.). Who would think na may manunuod kela empoy, john arcilla, etc. as lead until nagkaroon sila ng buzz sa social media?

      Delete
    4. Correct! There were movies out there exploring different genres, it's just hindi talaga tinatangkilik ng masa.

      Delete
    5. Mahaba comment mo pero may sense. Eto best comment para sakin...

      Delete

  18. Even if the premise may sound cliche, there is beauty in a story done really well as to make the cliche 'fresh' again. I think your cynicism and self importance has missed that mr matti.

  20. Sorry to break it to you, Sir but what’s quality for you may be trash for another person. You have no right to impose what the audience should like and you have no right to discredit movies or projects that earned because the audience liked them better than what you considered quality. So entitled.

3. The 2 box office movies that you've mentioned were not pabebe movies. Have you read the reviews of those movies especially the latter one?

    5. I just watched sa Netflix "Ang babaeng allergic sa wifi". Am sure it did not make a killing in the box office. Hindi kasi mag LT ang mga artista. I was pleasantly surprised na maganda siya. Feel good love story. This is the type of love story which is worth watching...

    7. 8:18 both those movies were pabebe, nothing that hasn’t already been done before. Recycled love story plots with recycled drama plots. Actors are well known pabebe actors esp the latter.

    8. Ang babaeng Allergic sa wifi is a better movie than yon pabebeng movie. Walang heavy scenes or iyakan pero ramdam mo.

James Wan director of Fast and Furious and Aquaman, and now Chloe Zhao director or Eternals. Mag level up po tayo sa skills as writer director.

Nireremake o nirereboot yung mga popular pambata movies at shows kasi it reminds people of their happier childhoods nung wala pa silang iniintindi na adulting problems. Maraming bansa ang ganyan. That doesn’t mean wala ng quality movies na lumalabas. Kahit satin meron pa, you just have to look beyond the mainstream naman.

Also, Erik Matti should stop being condescending to people who watch these movies. That’s not the way you convince people to listen to you, kasehodang may punto rin naman mga sinasabi niya.

  41. 3 days script-writing?! No wonder basura talaga Filipino movies. Suicide Squad had its script written in 6 weeks but it was still deemed mediocre. Meanwhile sa Probinsyano, paulit-ulit nalang dialogue kasi ang dami-dami na nilang characters who do nothing but grimace when the camera is focused on them. Usually in one episode, they say one line and that's it! Puro nalang filler dialogue. Michael de Mesa is probably rolling his eyes at the inane lines he had to say.

    1. So true. I just watch Tarintino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It’s a comedy-drama but it’s beautifully made. The comedy is so natural, nothing is forced and the 60s look and set are so meticulously presented. They even transformed the Hollywood strip as it was in the 60s and it looks so authentic. And of course they have first rate actors giving the story and the script life.

Bakit?

From low to upper middle income economy.
