    1. This. Dati kasi gusto kong pumuti pero as I got older mas maganda na even yung skin tone. The more natural the better. Focus na ko on having good skin instead kasi yun yung bumibigay ng glow.

SPF is important. Kayong mga sis na early 20s, maglagay kayo nyan before going outside para ma prevent yung age spots at premature aging.

  11. gurl, essential sakin ang whitening products, kasi I feel comfortable ng maputi ako — like how you you said kung gano ka ka-kumportable sa body mo regardless sa imperfections mo..

So, sino ka para magsabi kung ano ang essential sa hindi? GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE.

    1. Like you said essential lang siya sayo. Spf essential for anyone who wants to take good care of their skin. Kung di mo na-gets yun magsama kayo ni Kris na nag-effort mag-comment parehong pointless.

    2. Funny comment. Please read on the definition of the word "essential" aka "necessity". And if you have more time can u also read on the difference between "wants" and "needs".

      Delete
    3. She’s comfortable with her body regardless of her imperfections and she accepts what she has and doesn’t try to change it, but you’re only comfortable with your body when you’ve altered what makes you ‘imperfect’ in your eyes which is your natural skin color. What a sad life.

You’re only comfortable when your skin is white because of the colonial mentality that white is more beautiful and white is superior which makes you feel like you’re of value and that you belong because it has been ingrained in you by society. You’re just another victim of that mentality. Sad.

    5. Exactly. If others are comfortable with their morena skin,People should also respect those who wish to have lighter skin. There is nothing wrong with that.Maputi ako but I still use products that have whitening ingredients.Because that is how I want it.That’s my personal choice.

    11. 1.40 Here in North America, white women love to get tanned because it makes them feel beautiful and comfortable. Colonial mentality has nothing to do with personal choices. So, don't get deluded.

      Delete
    12. 2:18 I can bet that people here who use whitening products go to the greatest lengths to keep their fair skin. Whether it be wearing long sleeves or layers in the sweltering heat just to keep their skin fair and refusing to leave the house in a t-shirt with short sleeves if their skin will even be slightly exposed to the sun. I get it. None of us want skin cancer and I understand the need to use such items when the sun is beating down on some days. But there is a huge problem when people sacrifice their own physical comfortability and life to avoid the sun or to avoid getting dark because they ‘prefer’ being white. It’s a problem when it’s 100 degrees outside and people are wrapped up in clothing because they don’t want to get dark, and would rather risk suffering from heat stroke than get darker.

Have you ever wondered where your preference to be white stems from? It stems from the fact that society has made you think you’re beautiful because you have white skin and that you have value because of your white skin and that you’re desirable because of your white skin. People probably praise you for having white skin and you might enjoy that and that might fuel you to use whitening products. Like what 2:02 said, people think having fair skin equates to being clean when in actuality the color of your skin has no bearing whatsoever on a person’s cleanliness. That’s the mentality that Frankie’s trying to combat and that’s the mentality that the whitening/bleaching industry endorses.

If you love having white skin and love using whitening products and you love yourself when you’re lighter and don’t love the way you look when you’re darker due to the NATURAL effects of the sun when you’re out and about, you honestly do not love yourself. Your self love is conditional and that’s what makes your life sad.

Embrace what you were given ladies and gents. Filipinos evolved to have darker skin for a reason. If your excuse for wearing long sleeves and pants in the heat of the sun is because you’re afraid of skin cancer and wrinkles, find a better excuse. Melanin helps combat the sun’s UV rays and your whitening pills and products are eradicating your protection, all for the sake of being ‘clean’, beautiful, and desirable.

    13. Pwede naman maging makinis na di gumagamit ng whitening products. Hydrate. Moisturize. Use spf.

There is something wrong if you cannot love the skin you are born with.

But the interesting question is... why is there a "need" for whitening products?

      Delete
    14. 2:18 What makes your life sad is that you’re a victim of colonial mentality and you can’t even acknowledge or see it. You’re probably passing on that outdated mentality to your children and teaching them superficial beauty standards indirectly or directly through your actions and that’s even sadder

      Delete
    15. 2:18 magingat lang sa whitening. Maglagay lagi ng SPF. Also, you don’t have to feel so affected. It’s her opinion, not yours. She makes sense naman. Nagagandahan ako sa mga morena esp yung mga skin na super glowing. You don’t have to be maputi to achieve that.

Ako I have lighter skin pero I stopped using whitening products years ago dahil mas focus na ako sa skin care. I make sure na walang whitening keme sa mga products na ginagamit ko. Iba talaga pag healthy looking yung skin.

    16. 1:40 agree!

    17. Excuse me naman... Frankie was NOT shaming those who use whitening products - she just said DON'T USE, and in her followup comment - she mentioned about not using because of harmful effects on the skin. That was her opinion. Di niya naman sinabing mga nakakahiya kayong tao di ba?

Did you feel shame with what she said? Why? Kung alam niyong tama ang ginagawa ninyo at komportable kayo sa ginagawa ninyo, you shouldn't feel 'shamed' - lalo na at wala namang pamamahiyang ginawa nor sinabi yung tao.

People are so loose with using the word 'judge' - when all Frankie really did was say whitening products can be harmful to the skin. *eye roll galore*

    19. filipinos who are not naturally fair/light skinned (not “mestiza” per se) and say they are comfortable when they use whitening products (which generally kills melanin) are ran by their colonized minds. you just missed her point and for you to tell her to get off her high horse? she is reclaiming the love for her own skin, which was stripped when europeans colonized 3/4 of the world and made us believe that to be WHITE IS RIGHT. learn history and educate yourself.

      Delete
    20. Agree with everything you said, 4:35.

      Delete
    21. 4:22, In the Philippines, the choice of being light skinned stemmed from colonial mentality. Read Philippine history and you’ll know how superior the mestizos and mestizas were. So, don’t be ignorant!

  14. I agree with Kris on this one. It’s one thing to love your own skin but another thing to actually say do not buy whitening products. As Kris mentioned, it is up to the person to decide for oneself if gagamit ba non or not. Forcing people to love their color is the same as forcing them to hate it and use skin whitening products. Purists might disagree and stick to the cliche “love your own skin”. I say, don’t let anyone decide what makes you feel beautiful.

Grabe na ang tao ngayon to be judgmental. I don't use whitening products so I must be better than you. I didn't need plastic surgery so I must be better than you. I can proudly show off my body so I must be better than you. Because everything is just about looks looks looks. No one talks about substance and about being helpful to others. I guess that's human nature pero mas lalo nang maging grabe nowadays.

      Delete
    2. 1:41 Oozing with confidence kasi yung girl la loo.

      Delete
    3. 1:10 Using whitening products is not just about looks. It’s about the mentality that comes with it and how others treat people with darker skin in comparison to people with fairer skin which is why so many Filipinos use whitening products. People that don’t use whitening products don’t think they’re better than you. But people that do use whitening products think they’re superior because they think it makes them MORE beautiful, MORE clean looking, MORE of value. And with this, they treat people with darker skin as inferior, as dirty looking, as less beautiful. Because if they treat themselves as inferior with darker skin and as less worthy, imagine how they view others with dark skin and treat others with dark skin. If you read comments Filipinos write about celebrities that went from looking fair to getting tan or darker, there are so many comments saying “Ay maputi lang pala siya, hindi naman pala siya maganda”. You’re automatically seen as more worthy or of value simply by having white skin alone. So no it’s not just about looks and the concern for it. It’s about the mentality behind it that not only affects how you treat yourself, but others as well.

      Delete
    4. 1:29 What is wrong with being treated differently if you have whiter skin mentality? It's all about looks in this superficial world. One must survive in the jungle right? In the end, it's the heart that matters. So wag I question ang motive kasi gusto lang nila ng easier existence. Meanwhile, yung nasa picture eh liwing the life.

    1. that is what her message is all about. as filipinos, we live in a tropical archipelago, we naturally have melanin. she is trying to say that you have to love the skin you’re in. you cannot change what the bullies perceive, bur you can have more love for what you are born with.

  24. May point naman si Kris. If you're old and you still feel insecure about the color of your skin, do what makes you happy. However, how Kakie speaks about this topic is how we should raise young girls. We should empower young girls to never be insecure about it, to see the beauty of it.

    ReplyDelete
