The Department of Tourism said that the Miss Universe Organization wants the Philippines to host the pageant again.
Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo said that Philippines was supposed to host this year’s pageant, but President Rodrigo Duterte spurned the request to give way for the 31st ASEAN Summit.
“They went back to us months after and said that they wanted again for us to host the Miss Universe this year, so of course I have to ask the President first, kung puwede. He said ‘wag muna this year because of ASEAN," Teo said.
For the 2018 pageant, Teo said she still has to ask permission from President Duterte.
“Kasi parang the same month din, ASEAN first week and then Miss Universe last week, so sabi ni President ‘wag muna, maybe next time, maybe next year, we will have a cabinet meeting. I will have to ask again.”
DOT Undersecretary Kat de Castro said that the Miss Universe Organization tagged the Philippine pageant as their best show to date.
“According to the higher ups of the Miss Universe Organization, the best show to date they had is still the one they had in the Philippines last January,” de Castro said.
Teo said the Miss Universe pageant helped with the tourism influx which "increased, up by 11 percent, despite the martial law and Resorts World [incident.] Naitawid pa rin namin.”
The last time the Philippines hosted the Miss Universe Organization was in January 2017, when Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach turned over her crown to Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere.
Previously, the Philippines played host in 1994, when Dayanara Torres passed on the crown to India's Sushmita Sen.

Lumakas ba ekonomiya natin after? Tumigil ba paghitit ng mga adik? Tumigil ba patayan ng mga adik? Umayos ba mrt? All for show lang.
DeleteTrue, 12:52am. CHAVIT. Go figure. Ehem. Haha!
DeleteLuh si 12:52 out of topic.
DeleteNo other country would like to sponsor(?).
Delete12:52 Tumigil ba ang krimen sa rant mo? FYI, if 70+ foreigners and their families will come here, then that's tourism, meaning additional income for the Philippines. Gets mo na?
DeleteGusto nila dito para wala na uling maging MU from the Philippines.
They cursed and swore.
DeleteI saw yung comment ni teo na baka iapprove daw ni dugong ulit pag nakita na ang mgacandidates.. so sexist babae pa naman sya and holds one of the highest position in the gov't.
DeleteMISS U DOES NOT WANT TO SPEND ANYMORE (VEGAS IS WAY MORE EXPENSIVE THAT THE PHILIPPINES) THAT'S WHY THEY'RE PUSHING FOR US TO HOST IT AGAIN.
DeleteNakatulong ba sa tourism? Stats and REAL figures please
ReplyDeleteTingin mo hindi? Those foreigners splurge money for personal expenses. Income yon. Additional number of people din to discover our country.
Delete12:16 exactly! How many tourists came in the following year. Did it increase so much that the expenses incurred during the staging of MissU was worth it?
Delete11:22 it's better to have something that nothing. Wala namang gastos ang gobyerno diyan dahil private org yan. Si Chavit ang sponsor niyan. Sariling pera inday. Go back to school.
Hahaha
ReplyDeleteIts hard to win honestly if dito na naman e he-held kahit sabihin nang maganda yung candidate next year parang ang weird manalo sa home court. Sasabihin pa ng iba na luto
ReplyDeleteHold muna, teh.
Jusko so third world. Eeeeew.
ReplyDeleteAhh kaya pala pang iskwater comment mo kasi pang third world ka. Eeeeew.
DeleteKanya kanyang trip lang yan although you're right.
I feel bad for this year's candidates ang boring ng competition nila compared sa last edition.
ReplyDeleteWag na. Mas mahirap manalo pag tayo ang host, hahaha
ReplyDeleteHindi pa nga plastado o walang effect yung current tagline ng DOT (uhm, ano nga yun? hehe) at uma-ambisyon na mag host ulit. There's more to tourism than hosting the Miss Universe pageant.
ReplyDeleteBehind pa din tayo in terms of tourist arrivals among ASEAN countries.
Binasa mo ba???
DeleteIYONG TRAIN TALAGA PROBLEMA FROM THE AIRPORT TAPOS IYONG AIRPORTS SA MGA LIBLIB NA LUGAR. HIRAP NG BARKO LANG ANG PWEDENG SAKYAN PARA MABISITA ANG MGA MAGAGANDA LUGAR.
DeleteSure. Give us budget
Dito lang big deal Ang beauty pageants.. where else? Sa Venezuela colombia Brazil etc. Etc. San yon ? Sa kabilang dulo ng mundo! At mahihirap din mga tao don. Pinas won't be their top of mind holiday destination. Mag isip!
ReplyDeleteBAKIT KAYA HINDI NILA I-OFFER SA COLOMBIA E LAGI NAMAN SILANG PASOK SA TOP 5?
DeleteLaki kasi ng kita nila dito eh. Tigilan!
ReplyDeleteMiss Universe is the equivalent ng NFL Superbowl para sa Sangkabaklaan.
ReplyDeletehahaha!! good one!!
ReplyDeleteSus! Flop kasi this year.
ReplyDeleteWaste of tax payers' money
DeleteAs if a single cent of taxpayers’ money was spent.
but we benefit from FREE tourism ad by the candidates all over the world, the universe rather
lol Naniwala ka naman? 1:56, what about security and traffic rerouting and planning Kay chavit din? Wag magbulag bulagan. mRT at traffic problems Hindi nga msolusyunan uunahin pa walang kwentang beauty pageant na yan.
Delete1:31 Why? Wala namang gastos ang gobyerno do'n. Si Chavit ang sponsor no'n. Private org ang Miss Universe. Hello. Utak mo po?
DeleteTrue!
I browsed on Asian cruises from Singapore hanggang Japan ni stopover in Manila wala. C chavit nadala na ayaw na magsponsor kasi Lugi, DOT ba this time?
DeleteNOT TRUE NA THE GOVERNMENT DID NOT SPEND ANYTHING. DI BA ANG PNP E UNDER NG GOVERNMENT? SILA PO ANG NAGBANTAY SA MGA CANDIDATES. EACH CANDIDATE HAD AT LEAST 3-4 BODYGUARDS WHO WERE POLICEMEN.
In other words, gusto nila e almost libre. hahahah!!!
Beauty pageants are not relevant to our country, the PHILIPPINES
why is this country trying so hard to play a big role in miss universe ? #1 sa votes online and even on the pageant night itself, i think 70% ng crowd mga pinoy. kakahiya na.
ReplyDeletejuiceko magpapasikat na nmn c pia nyan
ReplyDeleteNo, it should stay in Vegas.
ReplyDeleteWalang budget and Miss U org. Such a user. Pwede ba wag kame...
ReplyDeleteSOmebody should tell Duterte that the american owners and the management are liberals and the fact that RAchel supports his administration had a negative effect on them.
ReplyDeleteWE SHOULD DEMAND A STATEMENT FROM PIA IF SHE SUPPORTS DUTERTE'S ADMIN ESPECIALLY HIS WAR ON DRUGS. I think hindi sya magiging favorite ng liberal MUorg if she supports Duterte's administration. REALTALK.
