A Lesson on Regretting

Sometimes, making a decision has to leave what has been gotten used to has to be done. The promise of career advancement, new environment, and financial resources are indeed enough to encourage one to change employers. Moreover, if one were to rely on established relationships, then another reason could justify moving. For celebrities, money can be secondary if the new workplace means renewing ties with former colleagues or even superiors.

When Successful Celebrity (SC) announced he was no longer renewing his contract and was signing up with another station, most of his fans and that of the network could not understand his decision. SC has been treated well by the network and even accorded the privilege of handling creative matters for his network. Unfortunately, SC has made up his mind and cited a previously made commitment as his reason for moving. However, despite his pronouncements, the subject of monetary compensation was not relegated to the background. Citing reasons that he has a family who has widening needs were justified, but still, fans were disappointed.

Naturally, SC was given various shows in his new station. He became one of the prized talents, as indicated by the various types of programs that were given to him. After one show, came another. Work seemed unending and his new home fulfilled what the press releases indicated. However, reality showed that although he had shows one after the other, the ratings were too low. He alone could not bring the audience to shift stations. In the horizon, doom was impending. Thus, his shows were cancelled and the station decided to change direction.

As a natural performer, SC could not be idle. Thus, he tried to see if his former station could take him back. The problem is that no project in the programming lineup could accommodate his talent. He even attempted to send feeler to a program that used to be synonymous to his name. Unfortunately, the program was lukewarm and made it look like the production was not interested in SC anymore. After all, he left just like that without considering that he was a vital clog in the said show. The show is now proving that it could stay strong even without him. Sadly, this unexcited reception indicated that SC was not as vital to the show after all, as a homegrown talent seems to be really the main force behind the power of the show.

Then, SC even approached the other station, as his former colleagues seem to be getting more exposure than before. SC was willing to guest even without any talent fee. Although SC is an excellent performer, the station is not keen on him, as they already have a strong lineup of performers. For now, SC has time to reflect on his next career moves and enjoy the time with his family.

‘We all make mistakes, have struggles, and even regret things in our past. But you are not your mistakes, you are not your struggles, and you are here NOW with the power to shape your day and your future.” ― Steve Maraboli

Repost: Charo Santos Comments on Choice of 'Ma Rosa' As Entry to Oscars

ABS-CBN chief content officer Charo Santos-Concio does not feel bad that her comeback movie, “Ang Babaeng Humayo,” was not chosen by the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) to be the country’s official entry in the upcoming Academy Awards.

This despite the movie’s recent victory at the Venice Film Festival where it bagged the Golden Lion top prize.

The FAP confirmed to ABS-CBN News last week that the country's official entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category of the Oscars will be Brillante Mendoza's "Ma' Rosa."

"It would have been great if our film was chosen, pero iba-iba ang panlasa ng tao (but people have different tastes). You accept that," she said.

"You just go with the flow and move on. We should all just be happy for 'Ma 'Rosa,'" she added.

Nonetheless, Cinema One Originals head Ronald Arguelles said the producers of "Ang Babaeng Humayo" are doing their best for the film to have a regular run in the United States so Santos could be eligible for the individual acting category.

"For the US screenings, yes we are working on it," Arguelles said.

When asked how she feels about comments that she has a chance of winning an Oscar, Santos said: "Masaya pero (I'm excited about the idea but) you just go with the flow, no expectations. What will be, will be. You take things as they come. I just have a grateful heart."

Meanwhile, Santos shared her experience at the Venice Film Festival following the movie's impressive feat as the first Filipino film to win the Golden Lion award.

"The win of the movie is a celebration of Philippine cinema. I'm so very happy and proud of (director) Lav Diaz. He deserves this after nine years of working so hard and not giving up," she said.

"There are no biases. They just saw the film for its merits. They saw our performances for our own merits," she added. "Walang judgment, wala ring expectations. Nakakatuwa naman that it was very much appreciated (No judgment, no expectations. I'm happy that the movie was very much appreciated)," she said.

Aside from Santos, the movie also features John Lloyd Cruz, Michael de Mesa, Shamaine and Nonie Buencamino, Mae Paner and Cacai Bautista, among others.

"Ang Babaeng Humayo" will have its regular run in the Philippines starting September 28, with a premiere night on September 27 at the UP Town Center.
