Wala ako sa Dubai but I got teary eyed! I just mentioned to my partner yesterday that hopefully the Philippines celebrates Independence day in a festive way like Thanksgiving day in US. We are the only country yata na hindi very cultural grounded and it’s sad.
Yes, sa US ang thanksgiving kala mo new year ang ingay, firecrackers and all. i think kaya yung iba tinatake for granted ang freedom kasi di naman big deal ang celebration unlike other countries.
Next year i’ll celebrate Independence day with my family ng bongga. I just bought flags for my car and office to kinda celebrate. Next year level up ko na ang celebration haha
My filipino friend from UAE celebrated our Independence day ng office nila. As in may party!!! To think Arab ang mga boss nya and not Filipino pero ginawa nilang big deal ang Independence day natin
1:05 maybe you are referring to July 4th (independence day celebration). Thanksgiving is usually just for food and shopping. (Black Friday, day after thanksgiving)
When Burj Khalifa arranges these special light shows, it means that the UAE as a whole appreciates you, and stands by you. It's not only Philippines, but other countries too such as India and Pakistan that have sizeable expat population in UAE during their respective special holidays. They also did for New Zealand last March, and France a couple of years ago, in sympathy. Whatever the reason, every time there's a special for a country laser show, the expat population are proud and happy seeing their flags.
UAE is home to many expats. This year is declared by the UAE rulers as Year of Tolerance. As host, the Emiratis celebrate with their expats occasions such as National Days or Independence Days, even Chinese New Year. And it's not only done for Philippines, but with other nations too. They commemorate the special occasion by laser show, or lighting up Burj Khalifa with the flag colours. It is the way UAE shows that they share and honour their resident expats' celebrations, and solidarity and sympathy during time of sorrows.
Nakakatuwang tingnan na kanya kanya silamg kabit ng flags sa harap ng bahay a month before the national day. Kita mo ang pagiging patriotic ng locals. Sana ganyan din tayo dito sa Pinas.
