  1. A lot of my tagalog friends think that Tagalog is our National language, when actually it's Filipino which represents 9 of the most widely used dialect in the country. And I'm tired debating with them.

    1. Well, they are right. More than 90% of words in the so-called Pilipino are Tagalog. They just renamed it Pilipino to make it acceptable to Visayas and Mindanao.

    2. Yep, this was actually taught in school. They probably weren't paying attention then.

    3. There are so many ignorant people who think theyre so smart in the Ph. Why do you think we are part of the leading countries viewed as the most ignorant yet most arrogant internationally? Nakakahiya nga eh.

    4. Tagalog is not a dialect. It's a language.

    5. Kelsey is correct.

  2. Yes, Filipino is the national language and not Tagalog but Filipino comprise mostly of Tagalog words, words from other dialects adopted as well as loan words from English and Spanish that do not have direct translation or equivalent to our language.

    1. But whenever i fill out a form for language I write tagalog. Thats also the only option to select. Its like tamil, bahasa, mandarin, nihonggo etc.

    1. Filipino is our national language. We just got used to calling it Tagalog because if’s closest to the Tagalog dialect.

      Delete
    2. Talaga? Eh bakit ang subject ay Filipino at hindi Tagalog.

      Delete
    3. @12:36 - WRONG! Our national language is Filipino ICYMI.

      Delete
    4. National language is Filipino. And please lang wag kayong magkalat ng maling info kasi ang hirap ipaliwanag lalo nat nasa ibang bansa ka at ang alam ng mga teachers mo ay Tagalog ang nat language ng Pinas. Tingin nila ikaw ang mali kasi sa daming maling nagsasabi na Tagalog is our nat language. Kasura lang minsan.

    5. Filipino is our national language(it is even a subject in class). Tagalog is a dialect which our national language mostly is based on

    6. 12:50. It’s their way to fool the non Tagalog. In reality, Pilipino and Tagalog are the same.

      Delete
    7. @7:36 indeed. tagalog is the same as filipino pero tinawag lang filipino para kunwari hindi bias lol. they just chose tagalog kahit na mas madaming pilipino ang nagsasalita ng bisaya

      Delete
    8. @12:36 WRONG WRONG WRONG!

      Delete
  4. Bisaya and Cebuano are somewhat the same, but Cebuano is specifically for people from Cebu. Taga Cebu ako girl, I should know. Then I moved to Mindanao na nagsasalita din ng bisaya, pero di mo talaga matatawag na Cebuano kasi di naman talaga sila taga Cebu. 😁

    1. Pero di ba the Language is officially called Cebuano? Kasi kung Bisaya, paano yung Waray, Hiligaynon..they're visayan too..

      Delete
    2. Tsaka medyo may pagakakaiba yung Cebuano at Bisaya slightly. Medyo malalim minsan ang wordings ng Cebuano compared to Bisaya and sometimes madaming words in Cebuano na di ginagamit o naiinitindihan ng Bisaya.

      Delete
    3. 1:01 Cebuano is taken from the word "Cebu".

      Delete
    4. Cebuano is not a language but a dialect.

      Delete
    5. Napansin ko nga rin yan, Cebuano dialect is also Bisaya. Cause my Mom tells me she speaks Bisaya but she's from Cebu so she's Cebuana.

      Delete
    6. 2:27 it is a language

      Delete
    7. @2:27 Cebuano is a language

      Delete
    8. 2:27 if Cebuano is a dialect, it's a dialect of which language? It is a vernacular that stands on its own(has its own vocabulary and grammar) kaya IT IS A LANGUAGE.

      Delete
    9. Bisaya refers to the language spoken by people in Visayas and Mindanao. Cebuano, waray, bol-anon etc are variations and thus are dialects.

    2. But what you call Pilipino is basically Tagalog. Renaming it doesn’t make it different.

      Delete
    3. @7:33 tagalog is just one of the dialects of the filipino language. EDUCATE YOURSELF please!!

      Delete
    4. 10:10 kung tutuusin, nauna ang Tagalog, and honestly speaking, Filipino ay nagmula sa Tagalog, kaya parang baligtad ata lol(in essence) although since ang Filipino ay basically creole language of Tagalog, it became its own language. Parang ang Chavacano Language is just a creole of Spanish

      Delete
  6. Uhnnnn...'Tagalog, Capampangan, Cebuano etc are considered languages as well. If we'll actually look at the definition of dialect "a particular form of a language which is peculiar to a specific region or social group" then it means Bulakenyo Tagalog, Laguna Tagalog, Batangenyong Tagalog are the dialects of the Tagalog Language. Gets nyo ba ko? Makes sense ba? Baka magulo ako magexplain hahaha

    6. Cebuano, ilokano, kapampangan etc.. are languages. Actually it’s an insult na tawaging dialects lang ang mga yan

      Delete
    7. our known "dialects" are actually languages. like cebuano, kapampangan, etc. dialects are just variations sa original language pero same pa rin. like sa tagalog, may tagalog ang batangas, tagalog ang quezon, tagalog ang bulacan. lahat tagalog pero may pinagkakaiba sa ibang words. ganun lang ang difference ng dialect. as for language, totally magkaiba compared to the other. like ilokano vs tagalog vs bisaya

    8. 12:38, thank you. Minsan kasi mismong textbooks ng deped mali mali

  7. Tama sya di ba? Tagalog is dialect, Filipino is our national language?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Tagalog is one of the major languages in the country. A dialect is a variant of a language, example, Tagalog is the language and variants include Batangas Tagalog, Bulacan Tagalog, etc.
Filipino is our national language that is Tagalog based, which means most of the words were adopted from the Tagalog language but it also has the other languages used in our country.

      Delete
    2. Mali siya na sabihin tagalog is a dialect, tagalog is a language, hindi nga lang considered as national language.

      Delete
    3. Nope, Tagalog is a language in itself, like Capampangan, Ilocano, Cebuano etc are also languages. Dialect means a variation of language based on region, meaning ang dialects ay for example Ilocano ng Ilocos, La Union Ilocano, Pangasinan Ilocano, if you hear their Ilocano you would hear differences in accents and words. Yun ang dialect.

      Delete
    4. Wrong. Filipino ay tao, Pilipino ang national language. Paano magkakaroon ng F ang national language, wala naman sa ating alphabet ang F.

      Delete
    5. 1:59 abakada ang tinutukoy mo. Kung makawrong ka naman akala mo confident na tama. Never na ginamit ang Pilipino to refer sa language.

      Delete
    6. Haven't you read any Filipino books? The Letter F is now part of Philippines' alphabet same as the letters C, J, Ñ, Q, V, X, Z. They are called "Hiram na Titik"

      Delete
    7. Isa ka pa 1:59. Filipino is correct. With an F. Kasi nga the national language is an amalgamation of local languages + some english and spanish words. Ang spanish at english may F.

Nasa mid-40s na ko. Nung elementary ako Pilipino daw. Pero nung high school ako (same school) Filipino na ang turo ng mga teacher kasi bagong kaalaman/discovery/rediscovery daw yun.

Now if you are older than me, i can forgive you kasi Pilipino ang nakagisnan mo. Kung mas bata ka naman, aba, balikan mo yung eskwela mo. Do justice to the next generation and the current students and tell the school na archaic ang tinuturo nila.

      Delete
    8. Meh, pareho lang naman yan. Pilipino is basically Tagalaog. Huwag na mag ek ek.

      Delete
    9. @12:49am- Wrong. Statistically, the Philippines is most dominated with Bisaya speakers. Kala mo Tagalog kasi yan yung naririnig mo. Tagalog has been used as a base in Filipino pangsipsip kay Manuel Quezon during Commonwealth the because he was from the Tagalog regions. Our language history goes deeper than you think.

      Delete
  8. Filipino is the official national language (together with English).

    1. Sa wakas, may nakakaalam ng tama. Both languages are accepted as official national language.

  9. Wrong! We have a maximum of 187 languages because Ilocano, Capampangan, Cebuano etc. are languages and not dialects of only one language. Igoogle nyo man yan lol kung dialects sila, how could have 187 languages then?

    3. Anthropology student ako 12:55 obviously between the two of us ikaw ang may di alam lol Dialects are just variants of a language like Tagalog ng Bulacan ay iba sa Tagalog ng Batangas. Those are dialects. Ikaw anong grade ka na? I'm surprised hindi mo alam yon? Lol

  11. POLITICAL CORRECTNESS. When they declared that Tagalog is the official language (along with English). Some provinces with different dialects (esp. Cebuano) contested it. So it was some sort of "compromise". Pero in reality Filipino is composed of 90% Tagalog.

Bottomline: Tama si Kelsey for calling it Filipino.

    1. Ang Filipino po ay ang mamamayan ng Pilipinas. Ang Tagalog ay one of the dialects spoken in the whole archipelago and the most commonly used. Kaya pag Tinanong ka what language you are speaking, you will say Tagalog because that’s the dialect coming out of your mouth or you will say Bisaya or Ilocano or Kapampangan. Ang national language ay Pilipino. Kaya ang subject sa school ay Pilipino language kasi walang letter F sa ating alpabeto.

      Delete
    2. 1:56 ang kulit mo,Filipino ang official languange natin..same as the citizenship "filipino" ang tawag..

  12. Tama, Filipino ang pambansang wika. Pinagsama-samang wika ng Pilipinas. Pero hindi maikukubli na karamihan nga ay kinuha sa Tagalog. Ang Tagalog ay wika rin. Pati Bisaya, Waray, Hiligaynon, at iba pa. Ang dayalekto ay kapag nagkakaunawaan pa rin pero may pagkakaiba na. Halimbawa, Tagalog ng Bulacan ay iba sa Tagalog ng Batangas. Ang Bisaya ng Cebu ay iba sa Bisaya ng Mindanao. Para sa madaling pag-intindi, sabi ng NCCA, kapag di nagkakaunawaan katulad ng Tagalog vs Kapampangan, wika itong maituturing.

    PILIPINO - is the language

  20. Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilokano and the likes are LANGUAGES. Manila Tagalog, Bulacan Tagalog, Batangas Tagalog are DIALECTS (Tagalog dialect). Sa madaling salita ganito yan. Pag ang 2 tao mula sa magkaibang lugar ay nag usap at nagkaintindihan, same language but different dialect yun. Magkaiba ng punto at ilang salita pero nagkakaintindihan. Like “kumakain” in Manila tagalog and “nakain” in Batangas tagalog. Pero pag ang 2 tao mula sa magkaibang lugar ay nagusap at hindi nagkaintindihan, magkaiba sila ng language. Example, tagalog and ilokano. Meanwhile, FILIPINO is our national language based on constitution. Originally, TAGALOG but they eventually changed it to FILIPINO para hindi biased sa mga tagalog. Kasi FILIPINO is not specific to tagalog BUT mostly based pa rin sa tagalog since capital ng PH is Manila. May bias pa rin yan kahit pano.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sa nagsasabi na walang letter F sa ating alpabeto, matagal na pong meron. At kung babalikan ang history, panahon pa po ni president Quezon nung gawing Pilipino ang pambansang wika.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ok naman arguments ni Kelsey.
    DIALECT which is Tagalog (etc), is a language which is distinct to specific region while;
LANGUAGE which is Filipino, is a system of communication used by a particular country.

Philippines has new alphabet since 1987, Modern Filipino Alphabet, with 28 letters, including the new additions 8 letters C F J Ñ Q V X Z. .. FILIPINO or PILIPINO is acceptable in the new alphabet. SOURCE: Head Teacher Filipino Department of Magsaysay HS QC.

    1. Yung tinutukoy na "language specific to a region" eh variation of a mother language. Plus anong taon pa yang definition na yan. Batangeño Tagalog is specific to Batangas, while Bulaceño Tagalig is specific to Bulacan. IYON ang DIALECT at ang mother LANGUAGE nila ay Tagalog. If a vernacular has its own vocabulary, grammar and such, considered na siyang language on its own.

      Delete
  23. Yes tagalog is a dialect but it is also the national language of the filipino.so i thereforw conclude that its proper to say that "filipino" is a nationality and tagalog is tha language..
