The rise of social media has led to various creative ways of increasing public awareness of certain products. After realizing that celebrities have thousands and even millions of followers, manufacturers and service-oriented companies saw the potential of advertising by merely tapping one celebrity account. Not only would friends and family be reached, but the fans could be convinced to purchase a product simply because it was uploaded in their idol’s social media account.

Even small or home-based enterprises have tried their luck in requesting a celebrity to upload a photo of their product. What they usually do is send samples of their products to the target celebrity in the hopes that the celebrity would post a photo and a message of gratitude. If behind the scenes negotiations were done, followers will no longer be privy to such. Followers would only see that their idols are happy with the product.

Seemingly Retired (SR) young talent has an image of being kind and gracious toward people. Coming from a celebrity family, the assumption is that SR knows how to deal with people from all walks of life. Her social media accounts seem to reflect her simple living and her choice of family over career. Thus, a Business Person (BP) tried to reach out to SR.

BP has a small business and sells products that were assumed that SR would like. A note was included that if SR would like BP’s products, her feedback would be well received and used for further improvement. However, if SR does not like the products, there is no obligation to give feedback at all and she can just keep them.

Under the assumption that receiving free stuff would make people happy, BP expected a positive response from SR concerning queries on where the products should be sent. SR replied and BP was shocked and dismayed at the SR’s answer. SR was demanding a significant amount from BP for her to post the product in her social media account. Having a small business, every peso is important, and thus, BP no longer replied. Besides, with the sleeping mode of her career, a product post in SR’s account is not a guarantee of increase in sales, anyway.

‘The best index to a person's character is how he treats people who can't do him any good, and how he treats people who can't fight back.’  ― Abigail Van Buren

    1. eh kung binigay nga for free, dapat walang kapalit na hinihingi. masaya na sya dapat sa thank you. may feedback na hinihingi di ba? so hindi talaga sya free.

    1. may nirerequest sya di ba? bakit kelangan libre kung pagkakakitaan naman ni bp in the end? bakit yung mga small business owners laging nag-eexpect ng pro bono services from artistas? may time at effort involved from sr kaya may fee involved.

    2. Wow naman sa time and effort para magpost sa IG.

    3. ay teh, hindi lang naman yung act ng mismong pagpost. binabayaran din yung reputation ng mag-eendorse, before and after. which takes time and effort from sr. kung madaliang pagpopost lang sa ig ang basehan, eh di sana lahat na lang ng ig users binigyan ng sample at hiningan ng feedback.

Is that you J???

    2. Yun naman pala, walang napadala so anong issue ni BP? May ganito kasi expected nya libre?

Kung ako nga yung brand owner iname drop ko pa yan with all screenshots of how SR is demanding a tf. Kakahigh blood!

Kaya may ganitong issue?

  5. Celebrities are paid millions to advertise.

  6. First time to guess...Si A ba ito (na medyo retired na)?

I will not mention what she is doing and selling kasi it will be very obvious.

Advertising typically costs much much more than a sample item, as any true businessman knows.

  15. she was just trying to earn a buck. kaso naman, itong seller, pipili din lang, yng wala pang career

    1. J has made a niche for herself with her admirable parenting ways. The world does not revolve around showbusiness. Duh!

  16. They are both business minded. I applaud BP for creating a product and look for different ways to market her product. I don't think her end game though is just to make SR her product tester. I also applaud SR for cutting to the chase.

  17. In fairness to SR, BP is being cheap and looking for free promotion. SR is her own brand with a niche market. If you want to give free stuff so people could try it and give feedback, expect feedback and nothing else in return. Tapos pag pangit feedback ni SR e wag nalang? Haha. Pwede naman nya patry sa iba e. It is only fair that SR gets fair compensation for promoting the items. It is a risk every business owner should take to promote their brand. And no, I am not J.

  23. I think this is J, dating KaH But I dont want to judge her. I also own a small business and when I reach out to celebrities/bloggers/online influencers there are few people na gladly accepts the gift and posts my items on his/her account and there are few, who asks for a talent fee which should not be a big deal for any business owners. It’s part of the business. They’ll post your product, your product will be noticed by their followers with no sales guarantee. Just like sa mga ibang media platforms - TV/Radio/Print companies pay to get their product advertised. Even FB and Instagram asked for as little as Php 40 per day so your product can be advertised. :) Lets be grateful na lang to celebrities, who are helping the local micro businesses for free and respect the ones who are asking for talent fee especially yung walang project/retired na sa showbiz :) Good vibes lang :)

And this is true
