PFF's Response to Arnold Clavio's Comments

  1. The PFF has gone sensitive re the matter, forgetting that when Ms. Ramos raised a complaint re the boys, they did not take the same course of action (action agad). Opinion lang din ni Arnold Clavio 'yun, yes, mali siya kasi as an anchor na taga-relay ng balita, naging sensitive siya dapat. Pero with Ms. Ramos, official siya, sana nabigyan din ng urgency yung pag-tackle sa pino-point out niya na she felt harassed sa actions ng players.

    1. korek ka! ngaun ung sympathy ng tao nasa Azkals because of a simple opinion although mali nga kc anchor sya, pero we never heard anything sa case na sinampa ni Ms. Ramos

    6. Miss Ramos' case is already in court, what else should the PFF do?
Mr. Clavio of all people should know that the Azkals, or some members of the team, are innocent until proven guilty. It was so unprofessional...

    7. Regardless kung totoo ang issue sa Azkals or not, its unprofessional and irresponsible.

    9. Correct! Ang bilis nila magcomplain if they are being criticized pero they can't even check their own backyard...
Nakaka-disappoint that these officials keep pampering and protecting this team...

    13. i think mabilis ang action ng PFF dahil #1. Football is anti racism. if iche-check natin, racism is a big issue when it comes to the football community. May mga summit pa nga na ginagawa for that. #2. The person involved (mr. clavio) is just within the boundaries of the country, unlike with Ms. Cristy's case na yung accused players are in Nepal.

      opinion ko lang naman.

    4. To 6:32 am. Pwede ba. As much as i agree with most of what arnold clavio said, it is STILL irresponsible journalism. As a media figure (and im not talking about showbiz actors) you should maintain a ground of neutrality. Yeah its cool, its his opinion about the azkals, wala tayong magagawa dun. Its what he feels eh. Pero to say it on national tv and on a morning news program?

Eh di may mali azkals. Eh di mali rin si clavio. Pending naman ang case. Ngayon, bakit ka sobrang defensive? PWEDE BA.

Both are to be reprimanded because both are major offenses (sexual harassment and racism/irresponsible journalism). So wag ka magalit. Both are pending investigation and rightly so.

Napanood ba nila ung "The Accused"?

    3. Isang malaking check! I have never understood & probably never will understand the hype over these guys. 6. "Are they less Filipino than those who grew up entirely in the Philippines?" - Are they Filipino citizen or holding a dual citizenship? You can't run for government office if you have dual citizenship because there is a doubt on a person's allegiance. So kung equal lang ang laki satin sa laki outside the country e bakit nga pag mag run for government office kailangan maging full pledge Filipino citizen.
I watched their game against India and it was obvious that they will win but they do not have a chance against North Korea.

  7. Clavio was just stating his opinion, PFF is being so sensitive. Just man up and apologize, period. I personally share Clavio's statements. It seems that the Azkals are getting away with everything they do. This has nothing to do w/ their race/nationality. It has EVERYTHING do with professionalism and respect. OA ka.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It has something to do with nationality kasi sinabi ni arnold na di sila lumaki sa pinas. Moreover, Philippine national team therefore kailangan pinoy so again the nationality. Lastly, eveyone is saying na their attitude is like that because they do not share the same values or traditions ng mga pinoy. Saka, it does not have anything to do with professionalism but respect i'll agree with you.

      Delete
    2. "It has EVERYTHING to do with professionalism and respect"

Same goes with Clavio, especially because he's a journalist. Don't get me wrong, I wholeheartedly agree that the Azkals that were involved should indeed be sanctioned once the allegations are proven.

      Delete
    3. Call it tabloid journalism, whatever... it's called his opinion. Maybe if the Azkals don't want to hear anything negative about them they should stop doing negative crap.Ans PFF and fans, please stop babying them. Yun lang pow.

      Delete
    4. "This has nothing to do with their race/nationality" Good line but u used it for a wrong point. Talagang the sexual harassment case has NOTHING TO DO WITH THEIR NATIONALITY. Kaya Mr. Clavio should be sanctioned with racism as well kc he used their race as a reason on why the accused are capable of the supposed crime they committed. IF FOUND GUILTY, SANCTION BOTH OF THEM (some Azkals and Clavio)!

Ewan ko lang ha, pero when i see these Azkals, wala ako makitang trace of anything Filipino sa kanila. Nasa labas ka man ng dug out o nasa loob.

  14. The comments in this post just shows how ignorant and insensitive people are about the issue of racism. And the fact that many still do not realize that even after seeing the incriminating clip proves my point.

The case against the Philippine Azkals members are still in the process of being investigated. None of the allegations have been proven yet. However, Arnold Clavio's raging racism is broadcast on national television for all to see and is irrefutable. I believe the PFF has every right to complain and I salute them for doing so.

  23. personally, i agree with arnold clavio. There must be truly something with this society of ours that we choose to let foreigners play for our home team. Admit it, majority of the Azkal players barely even speak tagalog. I believe that we can develop players on our own without dependence on imports or whatever, they are referred to. The imp in me might even go so far as to say that..."these players probably never will be able to join the leagues of the countries where they are originally from; which is they are all suddenly Filipinos by blood".. just to be able to form a team..... With regards to the complaint of Ms. Ramos, well, just apologizing doesn't even begin to cut it. These Azkals are already full of themselves that they think their good looks can justify whatever actions they do, even to the point of rudeness. It's a good thing that Ms. Ramos lodged her complaint.

Its just that, pff heard and watched it on tv.

Yun ang freedom of speech.

Seryosong issue ang racial prejudice sa first world.

Unfortunately, we are so use to the trial by publicity being done in our country that we don't even wait for the concerned officers to do their job...

  28. What i understand from "hindi Pilipino" at "hindi kalahi" e hindi sila pareho ng kinalakhang tradisyon, pananaw, ugali o paniniwala. Una na dyan ang pagrespeto sa kababaihan. 2. Your opinion of "respeto sa kababaihan" as a Filipino value is admirably high but overly idealistic. It's a Filipino value alright but it doesn't follow na pag pure Pinoy ka marunong ka rumespeto sa kababaihan which is ur point above and syang mali kay Clavio. Just ask how many cases of sexual harassment/rape are committed by PURE PINOYs, and you'd be surprise of the figure. Wag na ka lumayo, basahin mo na lang ung news about sa batang babae na nirape sa Laguna yata un, or the sampaguita girl rape case. PURE PINOY gumawa nun. Di nila nirespeto ang kababihan. Don't get me wrong. Im a proud pinoy and I too would like to believe that we respect girls but I dont claim that just because I Pinoy doesnt mean I respect girls MORE compared to other races. That is what's wrong with the point of Clavio. My 2 cents.

41. OA naman ang reaction ng PFF. They are trying to deflect the issue. At most, PFF only needed to send out a simple statement of disappointment about Arnold Clavio's opinions. Did PFF spend as much time crafting and creating a statement that is equally as long addressing Ms. Ramos' complaints?

Finally, which show was Arnold expressing his opinions? Was it in a newscast or in a "news" show? If it's in a news show and not a newscast, Arnold can give his opinion. That's just the norm now.

    ReplyDelete

    1. So true!!! Even Ted, Korina, Noli & Karen express their opinions on radio (which is also shown on tv).

Fact nmn tlg na not pure most of the Azkals but to use it as a proof of their capacity to commit sexual harassment is racist, a low blow and uncalled for. As if its a given na kapag pure pinoy ka di ka na pwede na makaka-commit ng sexual harassment. That's just plain b***s**t. And by raising it up is racism on part of Clavio.

The mere fact na binastos ni Clavio ang foreign bloods or half breeds is another one. Those are contradictions to that claim. I think they lodged a complaint because they are afraid they might be disqualified in this tournament when the players' nationality are being put into question by the people who are supposed to represent.

Ladies should not enter the locker rooms even if they are officials, the atmosphere is different there and they could always ask someone to do the checking for them. However, this is the 2nd incident wherein the Azkals were involved in the maltreatment of women... so may be there is something wrong with some of the players. I hope they resolve this case for everyone's satisfaction.

With regards to Mr. Clavio's statement, he could mask it as his editorial opinion but it doesn't erase the fact that he may be believing his own press and may have developed a bloated ego. This would be proven otherwise if he does acknowledge that he may have made an error of judgement.

Mas lalambot pa ang puso ko sa kanila kung nag-sorry ng tama at sabihing they are willing to suffer the consequences of offending the other party. Kse, sexual harrasment is sexual harassment. Kapag na-offend mo ang tao esp during the line of duty, pwede na syang magreklamo.

Let us stop putting these men on pedestals. Kaya lumalaki ang mga ulo eh. Marami pa silang dapat patunayan. Mas maraming atleta dyan na di hamak na mas magaling at mas nahihirapan "to give glory to the flag and country".

Did you know that pure filipinos have greater chance to excel sa football with the right training? kasi hindi necessary ang height sa larong ito. but as i said, hindi lang talaga popular ang football sa atin kaya wala masyadong nagkaka-interest nag mag-train and probably kasi wala rin masyadong kaalaman ang nagte-train sa mga kaunting may interest. and idagdag mo pa dyan ang insufficient support ng government sa larong ito.

    2. Dear 7:10 PM

    3. i agree. di kasi sikat football dito kaya wala masyadong mga bata naglalaro noon. pero with the kasikatan ng azkals ngayon with their underdog story, a lot of kids are now taking interest in the sport. dati mga football fields iilan lang eh. ngayon dumadami na sila at marami rami na ring batang naglalaro than before. in time magiging pure blooded pinoy rin mga players natin sa football if this keeps up. in time makakahanap ng bagong talents from this pool of kids na interested sa laro. with proper training and support from the government, we won't feel the need to borrow players from other courties. ngayon kasi dahil nga di sikat ang sport til now, we have to borrow players from european clubs kasi sa kanilang mga bansang pinaglakihan, numero uno ang football dun. nahasa na sila since bata. kaya sa mga football haters, patience lang. we will have our own grass root talents eventually. for now let's just support our team. it's our national team for crying out loud. they're carrying our flag.

    1. C. Ramos - person of authority cya so dapat on that time ay nagwala na cya sa locker room pero ginawa ay pinalaki ang issue paramapag-usapan

  80. kc yung mga cases against askals n sexual harassments he said-she said....eto kcng kay mr. clavio may recorded evidence. i guess if kcng gwapo at kcng tikas din ng mga askals c mr clavio ganun din sya kaangas. kasalanan din nung mga babae na pumapatol s knila.kung d mo nmn gusto d k nmn nila mapipilit d ba?as for ms ramos, dpt dun p lng nagsalita n sya na umayos sila ng gawa nila.she has the authority to do that nmn.she could've reprimanded them right there and then and called the attention of the team captain.

  81. We are all entitled to have our own opinion, kaya nga may freedom of speech e. I agree with him na nagpapanggap lang silang kayumanggi - this doesn't mean na pag Filipino kailangan kayumanggi, it's just a metaphor. They're comparing those players to PNoy e si PNoy only spent about 1/8 of his life sa ibang bansa e sila 3/4 ng buhay nila wala sila dito how would that help them incorporate the values and culture of a true Filipino in them? At least be man enough and admit your mistakes and apologize. Being in another country trying to win for the Philippines is not an enough excuse to not even try to reach out and make an effort to SINCERELY apologize. The incident with Ms. Ramos proved that Azkals are ASKALS and would never be ASPIN.

  83. i understand arnold why he said those things, he has high regard for filipino women and treats them with respect. cguro may insecurity lang nga na dala ang mga comments nya kaya it was blown out of proportion. pero i still understand his point that such 'joke' should not be mentioned with a woman amidst men kahit na hindi sya ang puntirya nito.

    1. he has high regard for filipino women? what about sarah balabagan? pinay rin. after buntisin, iniwan sa ere. high regard my ass!

if you listen closesly sa mga sinabi nya on air di na tungkol sa sexual harassment eh. patungkol na sa race eh. wala naman sa race ang paggawa ng krimen. kahit pinoy nakakagawa ng sexual harassment. so bakit pinasok ang race issue? ano konek nun? palusot lang yun na he's just anti-sexual harassment. anyone who buys his explanations are clearly biased. please pakilawakin ang isip.

i don't agree rin sa ginawa ng azkals kay christy pero race has nothing to do with the issue. tsaka di lang azkals pinatama ni clavio sa mga sinabi nya. whether he intended it or not, pati mga half filipinos all over the world eh naalienate nya.

put yourself in the shoes of other half-filipinos. yung tatay mo kungwari foreigner pero nanay mo pinay. tapos sabihan ka ng isang pinoy ng "di ka pilipino. nagpapanggap ka lang." ooh ouch...

let go of your biases and see how clavio's remarks are really racist...

  84. Clearly, some commenters here know nothing about football.

One, you CANNOT play for your National Team if you don't have an ounce of your country's blood in you. The players you are talking about are as Filipino as you can get. Ang pagkakaiba lang, they were raised by a Filipino parent/s abroad.

OUR PLAYERS WERE HERE ALREADY EVEN BEFORE FOOTBALL WAS EVEN POPULAR IN THE COUNTRY. They have been fighting FOR THE FLAG for YEARS already, with or without support from fans. In fact, THEY GET CLOSE TO NOTHING for playing for the country, only, in the words of some of our players, the pride of playing for their NANAY's COUNTRY. The expenses they even cover themselves, airfare and all.

They did not grab the opportunity away from our home-based players. Fact is, we do not even have a decent football program to train home-based players well, that's why we had to resort to borrowing foreign-based FILIPINO players from their respective clubs in far-away countries. So anong pag-agaw ng suporta roon?

Three, the real issue here is Mr. Clavio's racial slur, not the sexual harassment issue. The sexual harassment issue is out of the question in this discussion. I am not siding with the Azkals here, as I believe, as a woman, if the players are PROVEN GUILTY, they must be punished, given that it is in the proper forum (a COURT). Clavio, as a JOURNALIST, should have known better than to let his emotions get in the way of a newscast. He is ENTITLED TO HIS OPINION, but he should have witheld his opinion until later, alone with his peers, friends or whomever, as the show, being a newscast, should be neutral in nature.

Clavio's comment did not only touch the nerve of football fans, but also those whose parents are OFWs, or are OFWs themselves. Having fairer skin, being born to a foreigner father/mother, being raised in another country, if you follow Clavio's logic, makes you an alien in your own country. Ano ang tama doon? Pati mismong Constitution, kinalaban niya ang definition.

Clavio should man up, offer a sincere apology, and this can all be forgotten. As for the sexual harassment case, let it have its day in court. If Moy and Guirado are proven guilty, then I'm all for sanctioning them.

The issue here is RACISM. I hope everyone, even those against the Azkals, unite to battle a discriminatory remark that has hurt a lot of people. Let us not tolerate such kind of behavior from a respected journalist like Arnold Clavio, who so easily demands an apology from other people yet cannot give one on his own. No to racism.

    2. weh? not a fan girl? ah baka kasi di ka babae pero fan ka ng azkals. the sexual harassment issue isn't out of the picture here because arnold would not comment or give his opinion if there was no sexual harassment issue. you really are one heck of a fan blinded by the gorgeous faces of your idols.

  85. yung tungkol sa Azkal vs Cristy... commisioner ba kayo or azkal player para masabi nyo kung sino ang nagsasabi ng totoo o kung sino ang may mali sa nangyari? don't get me wrong. I'm neither a fan nor hater of Azkals and/or Cristy Ramos. I'm just saying, you don't know the truth, you don't have the facts, you weren't even there when it happened; therefore, you don't have the right to judge anyone of them, be it Azkal or Cristy.

yung tungkol kay Clavio... again... I'm neither a fan nor hater of clavio and/or gma7. pero sa narinig ko, at napanood ko, racist at malicious yung mga sinabi ni clavio. he pertained the whole Azkal team as "not Pinoy" and that he distinguished himself from the Azkals as "not Pinoy" (by pointing) at (his) heart and mind.

ay nako, ewan ko na lang, ha. pero pag hindi nyo maintindihan na yung ginawa ni Clavio ay napaka-irresponsable, ang masasabi ko lang ay panatiko kayo ni clavio and/or gma7. o kaya naman ay bulag kayo sa katotohanan. yes, he is entitled to have his own opinion. but it is not his place as a news and public affairs personality to make unnecessary remarks. he should have just stick to the issue (azkals vs cristy) at walang kinilingan.

    1. thanks! finally a sensible comment! kanina pko nagbabasa ng comments and lalo lang bumigat puso ko sa mga nabasa ko. it's so sad that people are willing to back up clavio despite his below the belt remarks dahil lang malaki galit nila sa azkals.

i'm not a fan of azkals but i do love and play the sport. it's sad that people think na kaya lang sikat ang football ngayon dahil gwapo mga players. that's so not true. us fans of the sport have been around for a long time but it is only now that nakikita kami kasi finally we have a national team to cheer for when dati we use to watch lang sa bars rooting for european teams sa uefa or san pa. ngayon lang rin nagiging visible mga batang naglalaro ng football dahil na rin sa media mileage sa biglang interes sa football pero matagal na rin may mga naglalaro ng sport na yan sa bansa natin di lang halata. nakatulong pa na dumadami mga fields na pwede paglaruan dahil sa media mileage na dala ng azkals.

looks have nothing to do with love for the game. i'm a girl and naoffend ako sa sinabi nina clavio that porke gwapo we are willing to throw ourselves sa kanila. not so. i just happen to love the game.

while i don't like what lex said (i also believe na di sadya ni angel na nakashorts lang nung lumapit kay christy), di pa nahahatulan ang kaso. til then, let's stick to the issue. let's not bring in the issue of breed-breed or half-half. race has nothing to do with any crime. kahit pinoy nagsesexual harassment. ano tawag kay clavio na nagtake advantage kay sarah balabagan tapos after anakan eh iniwan? so if susundan ko logic ni clavio, sasabihin ko rin dko sya kakultara dahil sa ginawa nya?

  89. I find it ironic that Arnold Clavio gets all hung up on Azkal controversy as if he’s the one that got all diddled on them mantitz. If you go back a decade, he fathered a child from Sarah Balabagan who happened to be a rape survivor. He left her and didn’t even bothered giving child support. He even denied that the child was his. Which is bad, making fun about bra size or take advantage of a vulnerable girl and left her with a child?

  90. Tama!

  91. Honestly, I didn't see any racist remark in Arn-arn's comments. It would have been racist if he shunned out all Fil-halfs but in his case, he pointed out specifically to some members of Azkals only. And admit it or not, the truth hurts. The issue would never be brought up, in the first place, IF these Azkals have acted and behaved properly, the way Filipinos would, especially towards women. The PFF is just making a big mountain out of a molehill. Coverup issue anyone?

Gahd! Focus on improving Philippine's Football first ... 100 years eh? san banda?
