Antagonistic Attitude

Onstage, Female Singer 1 (FS1) and Female Singer 2 (FS2) seem to be fine with each other’s presence. When they perform and even at the backstage, FS1 is amiable toward FS2. All is well when the two are seen together. However, things change when FS1 is away and FS2 can spew away.
Sometime ago, a corporate show expressed interest in getting the services of FS1 and FS2 for an anniversary show. The managers of FS1 and FS2 were in the meeting and terms were presented. When the manager of FS2 told her that she would be with FS1, she started speaking her mind. First, FS2 said that FS1 has a tendency to overshadow her fellow performers. Second, FS2 thinks FS1 sings out of tune. Third, FS2 thinks her talent is of international calibre, while that of FS1 is basically for local karaoke. Further, FS2 said she will refuse any attempt to sing a duet with FS1.
The manager of FS2 then relayed the sentiments of FS2 to the corporate representative. The details shocked the representative. Moreover, FS2 said that she can do the show on her own. Apparently, success and talent have gotten into the head of FS2 and she totally disregarded the years of FS1 in the business. Worse, FS1 was so clueless that FS2 resents her.
The corporate representative then relayed the details to higher management to help them decide. The decision was predictable and the bosses opted to avail of the services of FS1. Their reasoning was based on attitude and adherence to Filipino values. They did not want backstabbers and they could not fathom why FS2 would thumb down FS1 just get a deal.
Nonetheless, even if FS1 and FS2 continue to perform in certain events, the older singer still has no idea of what young singer does behind the scenes.

Repost: Jake Zyrus on Controversy Over Which CR To Go To

Jake Zyrus may be a “he” now, but the former “she” within is still considered at times.
As such, the singer-songwriter revealed he does not feel the need to use a public male toilet in the Philippines, saying he opts to “follow” and “respect” the law.
This topic was brought up amid persistent debates on whether transpeople should be permitted to use whichever restroom facilities that is in accordance with their gender identities.
The issue blew up last month when a transwoman was barred from using a women’s restroom inside a mall.
Jake came out as a transman two years ago. He used to go to the male’s restroom but as he grew older, he realized not everyone agrees with how he sees himself.
“Not everyone believes in the beliefs that you believe in so nagsi-CR ako sa kung saan ako dapat mag-CR. I simply follow the law. I respect the law,” he said.
The issue is “not about sexuality anymore,” he said, adding it all boils down to a matter of understanding.
“This is not about the CR anymore — this is about how we are going to treat each other and how we are going to understand each other. This is not just about understanding me, understanding the LGBT community –this is both ways,” he said. “’Yun ang sinasabi ko na kapag binato ka ng bato, batuhin mo ng tinapay.’ If someone doesn’t understand what you’re going through, if someone does not understand who you are, you simply understand them.”
Jake, who was previously known as Charice Pempengco, said people should not push their beliefs on other people’s throats.
Did he ever experience “discrimination” in his choice of public restrooms?
“Actually hindi pa naman… but it is no longer my problem if many would find it awkward that a trans man like me uses a female restroom,” he pointed out.
“I am just following the law because it’s what they said, right? Biologically, I am a woman so I follow it.”
Fellow singer Ice Seguerra, also a transman, is bating for gender-neutral restrooms.
Asked about his opinion on the matter, Jake said he would only approve of it if majority of Filipinos accept it.
“There are so many problems that we should face a lot more than this. I am more concerned of that. Pabor ako kung mababasa ko sa comments na okay na ang lahat,” he said.
Bulletin Entertainment caught up with Jake at the launch of his album “Evolution.” Produced by Star Music, it features his 2018 single, “Diamond,” an anthem about survival.
“The ‘Evolution’ title is not just about my transition, but the evolution of my life. It’s kind of like the theme song of every chapter of my life. Everything connects with my life, with my voice, hence, evolution,” Jake was quoted to have said in a release on the reason behind the album’s title.
Other tracks in the album are “DNM,” “Love Even If,” and “Tapestry.”
