Repost: Duterte to Block Renewal of ABS-CBN Franchise
Source: www.rappler.com
Responding to questions in a media interview on Thursday, April 27, Duterte accused the network of “swindling.” He claimed ABS-CBN did not show his political ads during the 2016 campaign season though they were already paid for.
“[The franchise] has been there for 25 years. The law said it’s okay, only if you adhere to journalistic standards. What did you do to us? Estafa, swindling, not only me but Chiz Escudero, many of us. Son of a bitch, you collected outright then you commit estafa,” he said.
“So I will file a complaint. Congress, no need to renew it. But to operate is something else, so I will point this out, your garbage, then we’ll see,” he added in an ambush interview right after he gave a joint press statement with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei, who was on a state visit.
Asked if he would “block” the franchise of ABS-CBN, Duterte said, “Yes, if you’re engaged in swindling.”
The President bared his decision to block the franchise renewal days after he signed a law renewing the franchise of ABS-CBN's rival, GMA Network.
House Bill 4349 seeking to renew the franchise granted to ABS-CBN for 25 years is still at the committee level. The franchise will expire in 2020.
ABS-CBN chairman Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III had earlier sought to allay stockholders’ fears that Duterte’s tirades against the company will affect its franchise renewal, saying the anger of an administration towards media is “part and parcel” of the work of media.
Lopez had assured ABS-CBN stockholders on April 9 that he didn't "anticipate any significant issues" with regards to the franchise renewal, saying the company had plenty of time to work on it.
He gave the assurance to his stockholders after the President, in a thinly veiled threat, said in a public address on March 30 that karma was sure to catch up with ABS-CBN and the Philippine Daily Inquirer for their supposed unfair reports on his presidency.
"Tingnan kung magslant. Ewan ko ba. But someday – hindi ko tinatakot – but someday, 'yung karma, dadating 'yan (See how they slant. I don't know. But someday – I'm not scaring them – but someday, karma will come)," Duterte said nearly a month ago.
ABS-CBN has denied this. Chief Strategy Officer Raymund Miranda maintained the media company's "balanced" reporting.
"From a news and current affairs perspective, we have, and always will be, striving to report in a fair and balanced manner," he said. – Rappler.com

Not Just a Walk in the Park

The best way to assure exposure is through endorsements. Given that free TV is laden with advertisements, celebrity endorsers are assured of exposure to viewers. However, not every celebrity can be an endorser of a prestigious product that could afford airtime. Such is the problem noticed by the management team of Actor Singer (AS) and Loveteam Partner (LP).
The management noticed that the couple does not have as many big endorsements as other loveteams despite their being seen in ads. Thus, to address this problem, the management lowered the fee of the couple to gain a competitive edge against the other loveteams. However, the strategy did not result in expectations, as very few products wanted to have AS and LP as their endorsers.
The negative publicity that has hounded the two are seen as a factor in their lack of huge endorsements. The alleged attitude problem of the two has also made agencies think twice in getting the two. As a result of the negative attitude of the two, a very big multinational drink allegedly dropped the idea of taking them as their endorsers.
While the two seem to be a package deal, sources say that advertisers prefer to have AS alone in their product promotions rather than have LP as well. This preference explains why AS has many ads that portray him alone. The public, unfortunately, sees LP in the negative light. Recent developments did not help their obtaining new projects. More importantly, their last major project was a disappointment.

Forced to Go Home
Confidently, MC went straight to the beauty salon to have her day for an all-around beauty treatment. After all, interviewing IP is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and would make all the fans jealous. Getting up close and personal with IP is a dream shared by many fans globally. MC would also be able to share her possible behind the scene experience with IP just to show the viewers that she has some inside scoop. Pretty much, people saw that she was excited at the assignment.
However, before anyone could just interview IP, a strict screening procedure has to be followed. The network submitted the name of MC as the interviewer. When the organizers looked at the list and saw the name of MC, they immediately struck her off the list and told the network that she’s not going to be allowed to interview IP. The network should instead assign other reporters.
When the network received news of the alleged banning of MC, the head was puzzled. To answer the question of why MC was banned, the organizers relayed negative experiences pertaining to the behavior of MC toward their artists. Allegedly, MC has a way of making sure the interviewees notice her and give her attention beyond the interview itself. She has a reputation of barging into the hotel room of the artists even after her task is done. Thus, the organizers would not allow MC to have the opportunity to sneak up on IP and his group. Meanwhile, the other names submitted by the network were approved.
MC is not one who easily accepts defeat. After all, as a trained journalist, she knows that she has to be creative in finding ways to get the interview. When she found out the schedule and the room where IP was staying, she made her Plan B. Unfortunately, MC is easily recognizable and the security team set up by the organizers was briefed. When MC was seen at the hotel and was near the room where IP was staying, she was immediately blocked and requested to turn back. She was not authorized at all.
MC did not dare make a scene, as she knows she will only embarrass her network. She walked away with a heavy heart and was disappointed that all her beautification effort was wasted as well as not having the opportunity to be chummy with IP.

Repost: Charice Pempengco Breaks up with Girlfriend After a Four-Year Relationship

Carl Cabral, the singer's handler, exclusively confirmed the split in a text message sent to ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe.
"Yes, Charice and Alyssa have broken up and it was a mutual decision," said Cabral, before adding: "Charice is not accepting any interviews and now taking a break. He's doing fine and he's happy. Thank you very much."
Rumors about the breakup began after Pilipino Star Ngayon reported on Wednesday that Quijano was seen leaving the apartment of the "Pyramid" hitmaker carrying packed bags last week.
The tabloid's source went on to say that Charice is currently staying with a friend in Laguna following the rift — a claim that Cabral vehemently dismissed. "The rumor that Charice is living with the fan is not true. He has bought his own house," he said.
Cabral also clarified that Jed Velasco, which entertainment website Pep asked for confirmation on the split, is no longer handling the career of Charice. He is now signed under TMU Entertainment Production.
Charice and Quijano first admitted their relationship back in 2013. After celebrating their anniversary last year, the two said they were already talking about having a child and getting married.
The breakup appears to come at a troubling time for Charice, who took a temporary break from showbiz last March. On his Twitter account, the singer described himself as "tired" before writing: "I can't anymore. I'm over it."

His scheduled March 24 concert, where he was supposed to formally apologize to his fans for leaving the limelight, was cancelled soon after.
