Gaining Back the Attention

While one side of the entertainment industry could be cruel, another side shows the opposite. Sometime ago, Homegrown Talent (HT) almost had her career cut short due to a major faux pas. Instead of the network reacting to the issue, her handlers opted to remain quiet and not issue any statement. Hence, no clarification was ever made, and HT continued with her career.

Nonetheless, the momentum that HT was building suddenly slowed down as she was transitioning from child roles to more mature ones. Her camp had to work overtime to make sure that her fans would follow her until she stabilizes her career again. However, HT’s camp noticed that Upcoming Personality (UP) seemed to be gaining the upper hand, as indicated by her successive projects.

To make sure HT would remain in the consciousness of the production team, her camp gave away small gifts to show their appreciation. However, this gesture was read otherwise, as some thought this could be HT’s way of trying to endear herself to the personnel. In short, the gesture was well-planned. The reality is that the production merely feels that UP is easier to deal with because of her attitude of being friendly. Allegedly, HT could be aloof at times, which was read as the outcome of her previous issue.

Rumors even have it that HT was already being told to move to another network after her major error. However, the other networks were not interested, as HT might not be able to get away from the effects of her alleged mistake. Lucky for HT, her network showed its heart by sticking it out with her. As HT is the sole breadwinner of her family, the network decided not to let her go. Hence, she still has several projects in the station. Such case is rare, as the network is known to release talents, especially the newbies, if management sees there is no potential at all or if the attitude does not fit the image of the station.

Skin Health 101

You may not have time for intensive and expensive skin care but there are skin care practices that you can do everyday without being very time consuming. In order to give your skin the care it needs, you must do these things as often as you can.

Protect your skin from the sun

Though the sun gives off vitamins to help your skin, too much exposure and strong UV rays can cause damages such as sun burned skin, wrinkles, dryness and aging.

Do not smoke

Smoking tends to make your skin look older and contributes to developing wrinkles. It narrows the blood vessels which decreases blood flow. If the blood flow decreases, the oxygen on your skin depletes which makes it dry and brittle.

Treat your skin gently

Daily cleansing may cause harm to the skin if don inappropriately. Always remember to scrub your skin gently, just enough to clean it and remove dirt. Also make sure that the skin care products you use are gentle and skin-friendly.

Eat healthy and dose up on Vitamin E

When you eat healthy, you’re allowing nutrition to come inside your system and further benefits your over-all health including the health of your skin. To add up on the perfect skin regimen, dose up on Vitamin E. Vitamin E aids in repairing damaged skin cells. It also helps maintain the skin’s radiance and healthy glow. Aside from that, it also helps in maintaining the functions of blood vessels, brain and nervous system. It strengthens the immune system and promotes good eyesight. Lastly, it helps in preventing cancer, heart disease and stroke.

It’s very simple to achieve pretty skin, especially now that it is easier to find Vitamin E supplements. You just have to make sure that you get at least 400IU of Vitamin E everyday in order to assure body and skin protection from the harmful effects of free radicals that can damage skin cells. I have been trying a Vitamin E supplement called Vita-E and I got nothing but amazing results! If you can get your hands on Vita-E all you need to do now is focus on the amount of rest you get and the food you take everyday. It will be easier to be prettier when you have pretty skin!

Movie Review: My Ex and Whys

Judging from its trailer, one would have a feeling that “My Ex and Whys “ would just be one of those ‘formulaic’ romantic love stories yet again by its director Garcia Molina whose past movies were the usual ‘pakilig’ stories, starred in by the country’s popular love teams - for impact and commercial box-office success. Interestingly, many were happy to be proven wrong. The movie’s trailer didn’t give it justice.

The film is a story about trust and second chances. Cali Ferrer (Liza Soberano) is a call center agent slash popular blogger with a huge following. Her blog, “The Bakit List “ looks like it was borne out of a failed relationship with Gio Martinez (Enrique Gil), her ex-boyfriend who broke her heart so bad. Her personal situation in the home front is in it, too, when her family suffered after her father abandoned them for another woman.

That and everything in between make Cali distrust (read: hate) all men with a passion. She vents her ire on her blog, often asking questions through her endless ‘why’s’. Needless to say, that’s what her blog is all about.

Online, Gio is a “DahilList” boy who reaches out to Cali and defends himself and questions her for lumping all them men with her bitterness. He tries to prove to her that he is not what she labels him and is deserving of a second chance. But the unforgiving, deeply pained and man-hater Cali closes the door on him. Their twitter fights go viral – until something happens that changes the whole gamut of their emotions.

The movie is a bit fast-paced, well-written with witty lines and a good comedy that delivers. It is laden with so many characters providing support and laughs for the lead stars and the viewers, respectively. Ryan Bang as Cali and Gio’s best friend is a riot, keeping the audience in stitches each time he opens his mouth to deliver his ‘pasabog’.

Many can relate with the story of trust issues. When Cali wants to challenge Gio’s resolve as a changed man by setting him up to trap him and prove to netizens how fake Gio is, completely unmindful of the huge consequences that they may entail, when her very own mother (Ara Mina) at some point loses herself and turns a blind eye on her philandering husband, when Gio’s all-male family gives him all their support, including love and approval for their skirt-chasing father (Joey Marquez).

Give it to the writer who knows how to discriminate between a good and bad script, between what really entertains and educates, to what is just for shallow laughs that insults. May we request them ‘though to do away with “chasing the traffic to make it to the airport” drama scene? It had seen better days, please make it rest.

As for the two lead stars: for all that she has to face and do in the movie – Liza delivers with aplomb. With or without her perfectly-chiseled face, whether she is in cool or tattered outfits, the young actress has shown what she is made of – depth. Ditto with Enrique who continues to level up and not just capitalize on his looks by doing “pa-cute” acting.

Certainly, Cali and Gio have learned about relationships the hard and painful way. How they were able to iron out their wrinkled relationship is certainly worth watching.

All told, may this be a good start for Star Cinema to evolve and rethink and to truly value their viewers by giving them what they truly deserve.

Bottom line: “ My Ex and Whys “ is about love and second chances. Most of all, trust – either you suffer for lack of it, or love because it can get better.

Also in the movie are Arlene Muhlach, Cai Cortez, Jeffrey Tam, Joross Gamboa, Dominique Roque and Hyubs Azarcon.

A Selfish Miser

Much has been written and said about how Older Celebrity (OC) has risen from a troubled young life into one of the ideal showbiz personalities. Growing up, OC had to strive throughout his life, as his parents were struggling themselves. He worked odd jobs to make sure he would be able to have money for his expenses as well as for his family. His lucky day came when he was spotted and given a break by one of the big networks.

As soon as OC got his break, he did what he was told and followed strictly orders from the management. Even if he started as a bit player, OC did his best until that moment when he clicked with his Memorable Reel partner (MR). Together, OC and MR were deemed as one of the best loveteams in terms of chemistry and box-office receipts. As always, fans hoped they would end up together.

Becoming a real couple was bound to be a problem between OC and MR, as both of them seemed to be looking at the same direction. Allegedly, OC had his sights in the same manner as MR would. Such decision, however, was hidden well, as OC will never admit to his sexual preference. The walls know, so to speak.

As time passed, OC lived in his own closet, but transformed his career into a very lucrative one. Instead of just relying on his showbiz career, he started pursuing his passion, and built his career as an entrepreneur as well. Even though his career dipped, OC remained financially secured. Given, his wealth, one would assume OC would be generous to his lovers. That was merely an assumption.

OC, it turns out, is very frugal and tightly holds on to every centavo he makes. For instance, using the aircondition would be subject to his rules. He would not even let his lover use the aircon, even though the pad was too warm. By contrast, when he would be arriving soon, he would text and say that the aircon should already be open so that the room will be ready once he reaches the place. Sadly, a Former Lover (FL) could not live with such strict and materially-guided rules, and thus broke off their relationship. FL was unable to live with the rigidness of OC when it came to money matters.

Management Sets up Dialogue Between Daniel Matsunaga and Erich Gonzales in Time for Their US Tour

Finally, Daniel Matsunaga and Erich Gonzales met in a private conference after their breakup. Star Magic bosses stepped in and arranged for the two to have a dialogue and settle whatever disagreements they had. As soon as Daniel saw Erich, he rushed and gave her a hug. After the said meeting, the two were seen with eyes obviously heavy from crying. However, the meeting seems to have been set up a day before the two were set to leave for shows in the US, which prompted speculations on the real agenda for making the two celebrities talk after their breakup.

A couple of weeks ago, fans were shocked when Erich revealed that they were no longer together. This revelation came after her social media followers noticed that she had deleted all her photos with Daniel and even with his family. Despite the obvious, Daniel refused to admit the end of their relationship, while Erich further clarified that they were no longer talking. Then, netizens took to social media sites and taunted both Erich and Daniel, as followers easily drew the line between the two. The reactions could have prompted Erich to reset to private settings and turn off the comment section of her account..

The post-breakup scenario worsened when netizens reacted to the post of Daniel’s sister, Vanessa, who asked Erich to clarify the alleged issue on finances. Erich threatened to reveal details if she would be further provoked. Despite this reaction, Vanessa assured that their family loves Erich and will fight for her. While followers were bracing themselves for the possibility that things will become uglier, the news that the two were finally able to talk should stop all the negative posts of followers for and against either exes. Nonetheless, the timing of the talk casts doubt, as the two are flying abroad for shows. Incidentally, despite the setback in their personal lives, Daniel is bound for a new reality show with other celebrities from the network. Recently, Erich renewed her contract with ABS-CBN.
