ALV Talents Conquer Asia
ALV Talent Circuit proudly hails the crowning achievements of some of its artists who have spread their wings and successfully penetrated the Southeast Asian region.
Headlining this batch is reigning WBO welterweight world boxing champion and incumbent Senator Manny Pacquiao, who reaffirmed his supremacy in the ring when he defeated Jessie Vargas in yet another memorable bout last November 6.
As he regained his impressive track record, the good senator was also chosen as the latest celebrity brand ambassador of the China-based sports apparel brand, ANTA, as well as a major
telecommunications company that will unveil its massive promotional campaign for him in 2017.
Next on the list is Kapamilya host Billy Crawford, who recently became part of KIX’s new reality/travel show, “The Ultimate BROcation,” in Hongkong, together with four other Asian superstars.
All throughout his six-day Hongkong stint, Billy made new friends, gained more followers and checked out some of the travel-friendly city’s most exciting and scenic spots.
The Ultimate BROcation will air first and exclusively on KIX, which is is available on Cablelink Ch.54, Cignal TV Ch. 133, Destiny Cable Ch.63, Gsat Ch. 18 and SKYcable Ch.63.
Not to be outdone, Karylle was signed up by Mediacorp, Singapore’s leading TV network, sometime late August, to play the lead role of a personal investigator/pole dancer/single parent in a single season crime thriller series titled Private Investigator, produced by Mediacorp and slated for release in Asian countries this December.
The It’s Showtime host, who recently concluded her two-night concert series at the Teatrino, is ecstatic about being given international recognition, and is optimistic that her Singapore stint will soon open more doors for her in the Asian showbiz circuit in months to come.
In the meantime, celebrity couple Eric and Rona Tai keep their fans forever at the edge of their seats as they try their best to outdo eleven other couples in the fifth season of Amazing Race Asia.
The launch took place at the National Monument in Jakarta, Indonesia. About 11 teams from other Southeast Asian countries vie for the US$ 100,000.
Both Eric and Rona are devout fitness enthusiasts and get a lot of mileage from their online workout videos that offer practical fitness tips to people of all ages and all walks of life.
One of ALV’s newest talents, classical crossover chanteuse Gabrielle Victoria Panlilio was chosen as the Philippines’ official representative for this year’s ChildAid Asia music festival set for July 16-17 at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center in Malaysia.
The annual music festival, which started in 2011, is a fund-raising event aimed at proving financial assistance for talented but indigent musical prodigies from all over the Asian region, while at the same time forging strong intercultural relations among its member countries and affiliate international organizations.
Gabri will also be in Vietnam from November 30 to December 5 to sing during the annual holiday city tree lighting festivities in Ho Chi Minh.
Former Kapuso tween star Teejay Marquez, who signed up with ALV just last week, became a big hit in Indonesia when one of his dubsmash videos went viral, earning him an avalanche of fans and followers in the progressive Southeast Asian capital.
This was soon followed by offers to star in a movie (Dubsmash The Movie), a TV series, as well as an endless stream of media interviews where he was hailed as one of the Philippines’ brightest and most promising young talents.
Now taking a break after his hectic sked during the first half of 2016, Teejay is bent on pursuing his acting career and will soon be signed up by a major network.
Lastly, top-rank MMA fighter Mark “Mugen” Striegl hopes to score a first round knockout during his fight with Bulgarian opponent Sotir Kichukov at the forthcoming One Championship Age of Domination fight series scheduled for December 2 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The tru-blue Pinoy martial artist has steadily been gaining his fair share of social media fans and followers thanks to his practical workout and self-defense tips.

Unlike his peers who made the move, the entry of NN into his new station was not given as much publicity. NN quietly slipped into his new station without much fuss. Sadly, his absence in his previous home was not noticed at all. NN became impatient when he was not getting the breaks he felt he needed, such as more substantial roles in challenging projects. NN wanted to develop his acting range, from comedy to drama, but his network could only do so much. Worse, the preoccupation with Hot Idol (HI) seems to have resulted in his former network ignoring its other talents. NN felt left out, and wanted freedom.
The desire for better roles seems to have come true for NN when he made the move. He was seen in a minor role in a movie and soon, he received the coveted call slip that he was going to have a role in a teleserye with a hot loveteam.
Thus, that morning, NN prepared for his role, and arriving early, he stayed at the tent for the actors of the teleserye while waiting to be called for his scene. In a few minutes, Lead Actress (LA) and Lead Performer (LP) entered the tent. NN smiled at the couple and hoped for a pleasant welcome. Instead, LP approached him and told him to leave the tent, which was reserved for lead actors of the project only. Besides, LA was tired and wanted to rest. Further, she needed privacy.
Shocked at the reception coming from LP, NN had no choice but to leave immediately. No one from the production was around to introduce him formally to the couple and tell them that he was the latest addition to the show. Still, NN felt so small, like an extra, which would have never happened had he stayed in his former network. Incidentally, even when he was starting out, he was accorded with respect because people in his former network knew of his connection with an influential insider.

YES, it’s official. After months of rumors going around the tourism industry on his impending appointment, actor Cesar Montano has been named as COO of the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), well-placed sources at the Department of Tourism (DOT) and TPB confirmed to the BusinessMirror.
“Actual appointment papers [of Montano]” were received from Malacañang, the sources said, when asked how the DOT management, led by Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon T. Teo, was informed of the appointment of the multiawarded actor.
Teo failed to respond to text messages about Montano’s appointment, but DOT Spokesman and Assistant Secretary Frederick B. Alegre said: “We will be issuing an official statement once he is sworn into office.”
The TPB, formerly the Philippine Conventions and Visitors Corp., is tasked with formulating and implementing an integrated domestic and international promotions and marketing program for the DOT. It was recently headed by 30-year-tourism-marketing veteran Domingo Ramon Enerio III.
Montano’s longtime Manager Shirley Pizarro said she had yet to confirm with the actor about the appointment, and could not reach him by phone as of press time.
Asked how this would impact on his film career, she said: “He has films in the planning stage. I’m not sure what will be the implication of the new post on his career. But if I know him, he will probably find a way to make his showbiz career work for this new appointment.”
Montano was recently part of President Duterte’s business delegation to Beijing, reportedly looking for Chinese investors for an upcoming movie.
While tourism sources said it has not yet been decided when the 54-year-old Montano would actually assume his post at the TPB, he is supposed to attend the TPB Board of Directors meeting on December 15. “He will be there to observe and be introduced to the [TPB officers and staff],” the sources revealed.
The TPB board is chaired by the tourism secretary, with the TPB COO as vice chair, while members include the COO of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority; the secretaries of the departments of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Industry, and Transportation; and five representatives from industry stakeholders as nominated by the private sector-led Tourism Congress.
Under Republic Act 9353, or the Tourism Act of 2009, the COO of the TPB is supposed to be elected by its board of directors “from a list of qualified applicants and appointed by the secretary.” The same law requires the COO to be “a Filipino citizen, have a bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: business, law, tourism, public administration or other relevant fields and have demonstrated expertise therein; and have occupied a managerial position for at least five years.”
Considered a government-owned and –controlled corporation, the TPB’s board has to nominate/elect its COO annually.
Aside from acting in films, Montano is also a film producer, director and singer. He won awards for acting and directing films, such as Ang Bukas ay Akin, Panaghoy sa Suba (The Call of the River), José Rizal, Muro Ami (Reef Hunters), Bagong Buwan, Ligalig and El Presidente.
According to an entry in Wikipedia, Montano, whose real name is Cesar Manhilot and traces his roots to Baclayon in Bohol, “went to Santa Ana Elementary School, Mariano Marcos Memorial High School and finished engineering at Lyceum of the Philippines University in Intramuros, Manila.”
He made unsuccessful tries for elective office, starting with the Senatorial elections in 2007, for governor of Bohol in 2010, and as a party-list represantive in 2016.
Montano is estranged from his wife actress Sunshine Cruz, who filed an annulment of their marriage in 2014. They have three daughters.
