She Would Rather be Single
When the public notices an actor and an actress hanging around, the immediate assumption is that the two are together. In other cases, fans pressure reel love teams to become real, and quite often, they do end up in a relationship.
While love might be blissful, circumstances could sometimes lead to breakups. The aftermath of breakups could indeed be too traumatic and the parties involved sometimes develop cynicism towards love. Several celebrities have experienced breakups like normal people. For instance, a couple broke up via text message, another had to part ways because the family of one party did not like the other, and most commonly, a new person had emerged and one party has allowed himself/herself to be attracted.
One of the breakups of Pretty Lass (PL) was met with both jeers and cheers. Not really knowing what hit her, PL woke up one day single with Her Man (HM) suddenly moving on without her. By contrast, fans who did not like PL for HM rejoiced at their breakup.
This relationship made an impact in the life of PL that she decided to shun away from any major commitment. Although she and Another Actor (AA) have been seen in photographs laughing and enjoying one’s company, PL has denied that she and AA are already together. Corollary to this claim is the statement of AA who found the stories linking him with AA rubbish.
However, the grapevine insists that PL and AA are indeed together, but not as a couple in the traditional sense. Shunning any responsibility for another one, PL prefers the non-commitment stance of AA as well. Thus, their link is purely physical at this point. They share intimate moments and give in to their desires without having any formal agreement. Besides, PL is allegedly hooking up with an Influential Insider in her network. This connection with PL is deemed as the reason why she has never runs out of quality projects.

Timeline of Eigenmann-Casino-Ejercito Controversy

Back in 2011, Casino was among the young actors ABS-CBN was building up. At that time, he was already the screen partner of Kathryn Bernardo in the remake of Mara Clara. The audience loved their team up and Casino seemed destined for a bigger career. However, the public also knew that romance between Bernardo and Casino was not possible because Andi Eigenmann was in the picture.
Eigenmann was already being noticed for her acting talent and trusted with projects where she was the lead actress. Coming from a showbiz family, much was expected from Eigenmann to prove that she was the worthy heir of her parents, Mark Gil and Jacklyn Jose. Her road to stardom seems promising.
Then, one day, showbiz land was awakened with the admission that Eigenmann was pregnant. The quest to identify the father came next and fingers pointed out to Casino, who was her boyfriend at that time. Nonetheless, the relationships of Eigenmann at that time were confusing. One claim is that when Eigenmann and Casino broke up, Ejercito came into the picture and became the boyfriend of Eigenmann. As Ejercito was studying abroad, he had to leave. With Ejercito far away, Eigenmann allegedly went back to Casino even though she and Ejercito had no formal breakup. Then, news of her pregnancy rocked the industry.
When Casino was pointed at as the father, the actor immediately denied the claim. Casino was around 18 years old at that time and was being touted as the next big talent of his network. However, the doubts coming from his family and reaction to the controversy affected his image. Slowly, his projects were no longer materializing. Worse, Casino was allegedly even beaten up by celebrity sympathizers of Eigenmann. Then, Casino disappeared from the network, and resurfaced in another when the issue seemed to be dying down.
While Casino opted to stay away from Eigenmann, Ejercito chose to be with her despite not being identified as the father. This decision of Ejercito to standby Eigenmann resulted in straining the relationship between his mother, Laarni Enriquez, and Eigenmann’s mother. Jose was caught on video talking about how the Ejercitos might not want her daughter for the unico hijo because Eigenmann was a single mom. Enriquez was quoted to deny such belief of Jose.
As Ellie was growing up, netizens were surprised at how Ejercito would dote on the child. He would bring her to places and develop closeness. People questioned why he seemed to be close to the child, while Casino had not even seen Ellie. While photos showed Ejercito and Ellie in happy moments, the opposite could be said when it came to Eigenmann and Ejercito in their social media accounts. A war was always happening in their exchanges and their followers realized that Ejercito and Eigenmann have too many disagreements.
Last year, Casino resurfaced and was back with ABS-CBN. In one of his interviews, he hinted that he was indeed not the father of Ellie, but he was not in a position to say anything more. Moreover, he opted to remain quiet so as not to affect the child.
A few days ago, Eigenmann’s half-sister, Max, finally revealed and confirmed that Ejercito was indeed the father of Ellie. In her interview at Good Times with Mo Twister, Max revealed that Ejercito took the paternity test. Casino actually offered to take a paternity test, but this offer was turned down by the family of Eigenmann. This revelation sparked a snowball of reactions. Netizens immediately criticized Eigenmann for not telling the truth. Even Ejercito was not spared. Netizens demanded that both Eigenmann and Ejercito should apologize to Casino. After all, the pregnancy issue ruined the career of Casino. However, looking at the bright side, other netizens claim that had Casino remained visible, Daniel Padilla would have never been partnered with Kathryn Bernardo, and KathNiel would have never happened.
Now that the cat is out of the bad, so to speak, the public is waiting for a statement coming from Eigenmann herself. As the mother, she is the only other person who can refute or verify the claim made by Max. Further, the question of why she hid the identity of the father is another point to ponder. Another one is why she played along that Casino is indeed the father. At the moment, only Casino and his family as well as some family members of Eigenmann have posted on social media their reactions.

Movie Review: I America

I America is a story about the life of half-American Erica Berry (Bela Padilla), a complicated woman born to an ex- prostitute mother (Elizabeth Oropesa) and an American father. Erica represents the struggles of thousands of abandoned half-American children in Olongapo left for good by their fathers. In Erica’s case, she has strongly resolved to find him and her own identity - hook, line and sinker.
The drama comedy film begins with Erica, a part-time model, doing a VTR (video tape recorder) for a tv commercial she is auditioning for in Manila. Thereafter, she boards a bus going home to Olongapo City to a loving woman who is not her mother but a family she calls her own.
Despite her hatred for her biological mother, Erica’s close circle of half-American friends give her much comfort and stability, with one common goal and treating each other like fraternity sisters.
No doubt, Bela played her character well, showing her ease with comedy, too. Erica elicited some laughs every time she converses in English with great difficulty. In other scenes though, director Payawal could have maximized her performance and the story’s potential had his narrative been more convincing and committed. As it turned out, the movie looks disorganized and half-baked, with a smorgasbord of issues going on, thus missing the vital points that it wants to put across.
Cinematographer Carlo Mendoza using a handheld camera shot some of the scenes quite beautifully, but there are several parts, too, that will make the viewer dizzy, obviously due to the unsteady handling of the equipment making them appear blurred. Wonder why this huge lapse was overlooked.
Some of the movie’s scenes struggle to be relevant including some jokes that are too old, corny and painfully redundant. Ditto with several dramatic scenes that are overkill, notably the brawl between Erica and her jealous black sister which are devoid of reason to be justified. There were cringe-worthy reactions, too, especially when Erica learns that her prostitute sister gets pregnant by the man she (Erica) mistakenly thought to be her savior.
Elizabeth Oropesa remains to be an acting giant, definitely credible as an aged, foul-mouthed ex-prostitute who abandoned her daughter early on. Only actors of La Oropesa’s caliber can deliver such crassness and vulgarity with aplomb. Among her memorable scenes are her showdowns with Erica, when she confronts her about her real father and Oropesa responds like a loose cannon, her mouth loaded with filth and obscenities that can only come from a hard core flesh trader.
Overall, I America’s objective is commendable, but disappoints on many points, resulting to an overblown but underwhelming product. Thankfully, the good choice of actors, Bela Padilla and Elizabeth Oropesa, will at least help save the day.
The movie now showing in cinemas, has other stars - Joe Vargas, Julz Savard, Kate Bautista, Lui Manansala, Matt Evans, Raflesia Bravo, Rhyzza Kafilas, Rob Rownd, Sheena Ramos and Thou Reyes.
