Jiving and Snooty

One of the latest talents the network is banking on for this year is Pretty Actress (PA). PA, coming from a lineage of multi-talented parents, proved that she could act and attract fans. Her first major project was such a hit that PA was rewarded with top billing in her next assignment. The network is known for building up talents, and so far, it has succeeded in making the careers of virtual unknowns, who do not have as much talent as PA. Thus, much is riding on the success of the solo series of PA.
Coming from a showbiz family, the assumption is that PA has a deeper understanding of the responsibilities that go with fame. Unfortunately, an anecdote is going around that might not sit well with the sweet image her network is building for her. Allegedly, PA disguises herself when she goes to malls. She wears a wig, sports a scarf, and hides her eyes behind big shades. Obviously, PA does not want to be recognized. Worse, she apparently hates it when people ask to have their picture taken with her.
The attitude of PA is disappointing, as she still has yet to make a mark for herself. Although her solo project will still be aired, PA already has a mindset that she is famous. It’s too early for her to think that even the high-end malls she frequents will have fans mobbing her or at the very least, minding her. Most clients of those malls might not even be aware of her presence and would not care at all. However, heads may turn only because it's rare to see Filipinos in disguise in their own country.
Perhaps, PA should be reminded that her attitude is not something to be proud of. Most young stars of her network are still enjoying their top positions because they are accommodating to fans and not mind being recognized in public. It's too early for her to drown in a glass of water.
Unfortunately, I think a lot of people are affected more by the idea of fame than the actual work ethic involved. – Katy Perry

PNoy Criticizes Filipino Clergy in Front of Pope Francis
Source: www.gmanetwork.com
In his message during the Pope’s courtesy call in Malacañang, Aquino hit members of the Filipino clergy for supposedly tolerating “abuses” committed by his predecessor, former President now incumbent Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
“There was a true test of faith when many members of the Church, once advocates for the poor, the marginalized, and the helpless, suddenly became silent in the face of the previous administration’s abuses, which we are still trying to rectify to this very day,” the President said.
Aquino then went on to lambast local Church leaders critical of his administration.
“In contrast to their previous silence, some members of the clergy now seem to think that the way to be true to the faith means finding something to criticize, even to the extent that one prelate admonished me to do something about my hair, as if it were a mortal sin,” the President said.
“Is it any wonder then, that they see the glass not as half-full, or half-empty, but almost totally empty? Judgment is rendered without an appreciation of the facts,” he added.
Aquino, who approved the Church-opposed reproductive health law in 2012, also stood firm on giving Filipinos “freedom of choice.”
“If we do not intercede to make each person capable of exercising true freedom of choice, then we are not our brother’s keepers,” he said.
Citing Biblical scriptures, President Aquino likewise encouraged Church leaders “to be concerned with injustice in temporal matters.”
“When the Church engaged in temporal matters, it was truly working to bring the Kingdom of God apparent in this world. It was a living Church, a source of nurturing and support for the faithful,” he said.
Praises for the Pope
But towards the end of his speech, President Aquino changed his tone and shifted to praises for Pope Francis.
“I appreciate and respect Your Holiness, for your role as a unifying and revitalizing voice, not just among Catholics, but also among all peoples of goodwill,” the Philippine leader said.
He also even quipped about the “security nightmare” caused by the Pope’s decision to ride open vehicles during his five-day state and apostolic visit to the Philippines.
“Exhibiting the same humility, you eschew the trappings of your position, even to the necessary security preparations, which, I should admit, has been somewhat of a security nightmare for us,” Aquino said.
“In all seriousness, who can deny that Your Holiness is truly living the life of one who is dedicated to advocating for the oppressed and marginalized?” he added.
Pope Francis is scheduled to meet with Filipino families later this afternoon. He will fly to Leyte, a province still recovering from Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), on Saturday.
‘PHL Church shone during Martial Law era’
Before criticizing the Filipino clergy, Aquino recalled the Martial Law era, when he said local Church leaders “truly lived their faith and acted as followers of Christ in being their brothers’ keepers.”
The President said former President Ferdinand Marcos’ decision to place the Philippines under military rule triggered an era “in which the most fundamental rights of many Filipinos were flagrantly and routinely violated.”
“I had a front row seat to that tyranny and persecution. After all, the dictator wasted no time in having my father, one of his most influential and vocal opponents, imprisoned,” Aquino said.
The President's father, former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., was gunned down at the tarmac of the Manila International Airport on Aug. 21, 1983 under the Marcos dictatorship. The MIA now bears his the slain Aquino's name.
Aquino's assassination triggered a series of protests that led to the EDSA People Power Revolution in 1986, which was supported by local Church leaders such as the late Jaime Cardinal Sin.
The 1986 revolt ultimately ousted Marcos and catapulted President Aquino's mother, Corazon, to the presidency.
Last September, President Aquino admitted that he wanted to exact revenge on the late strongman after Ninoy's assassination.

Misleading Effort
Sometime ago, social media was abuzz at the staging of a pre-preparation party (PP) of a major event. Fans of the celebrity (TC), who was the center of the celebration, were all agog at the highlights of the party. Some cited that the cost of the venue alone could be expensive. After all, the venue is considered as an elegant place for special occasions, and only those who have the money can afford it. Others noticed that the guests at the PP were only close friends of TC. Thus, the fans and followers of TC all had praises for the elegance of the staging of PP. Supposedly, PP was thrown by the network colleagues of the celebrity.
However, the story behind PP will disappoint the fans who had made a big deal out of it. PP was actually sponsored by a firm, who initially offered its sponsorship to a party for an earlier event (EE). However, the offer came too late as everything was already in place for EE. Thus, the firm shifted its attention to the succeeding event (SE). The firm shouldered every detail of PP, such as the venue, food, styling, etc. In short, the firm sponsored the gathering, as SE is still a point of interest these days.
While the guests were supposedly only TC’s closest friends, one awkward moment occurred when a low-key personality (LK), who is strongly connected to the firm, was asked to participate in a rite during the PP. The network people made it appear that LK was close to TC. However, LK started with “This is awkward. I don’t know why I’m here...but my gift to TC is based on my research and what I heard she likes…”
Except for one kin, no other family member of TC was present during PP. However, the kin was not in the prescribed dress code, which was formal and glam. Her outfit was close to office clothes. The kin remained simple with her fanfare-less speech by saying, “As long as you’re happy, I’ll be happy for you.”
As much as her followers would want to drumbeat interest for SE, comparisons will always be made with EE. Personalities, outfit, elegance, and staging will be compared repeatedly. Guessing as to which comes first and second is something that is already predictable.
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. –Winston Churchill
