Tit for Tat

Celebrities are sought after endorsers of businesses, especially, the ones operated by small-scale entrepreneurs. A post by a celebrity in his/her social media can result in awareness of a product and consequently, sales. A newbie in the market can be overwhelmed when a celebrity agrees to post his/her product on a particular site. While the business relationship can work both ways, the newbie entrepreneur is often at a disadvantage.

With the pandemic going on, many netizens have opted to go online to sell a product and these days, the most profitable is food. From bread, pastries, sweets, health drinks, to meat dishes, almost every possible type of food is available on line. However, the market can shrink, as many sellers take advantage of the popularity of certain products, such as the ube-cheese pandesal. Nonetheless, certain celebrities are benefitting from such a boom, either as product-makers or celebrity-endorsers.

Unlike a starting-out food entrepreneur, a celebrity already has thousands or more followers and thus, one post with a good word can possibly lead to orders. Socmed Savvy (SS) celebrity is aware of the power of her social media account and with the work stoppage, she has to find creative means to generate something good.

Allegedly, SS offers to post products of small entrepreneurs, especially food producers. The deal is exposure for the entrepreneur and food sample for SS. Like many celebrities, SS has many followers and if each follower were to give a peso, she would be a millionaire. Such is the reach of her social media account. One entrepreneur took the offer of SS and sent her the said product. SS did her part and uploaded nice photos of the various products being sold.

What SS did not consider or know was that the said entrepreneur was literally starting out and the product sent to her equaled sales of three days. For a new venture, the risk was high and SS could be the key for the business to take off. Whether SS took advantage remains to be seen, as one could say that SS is being practical, aware of using her resources, and savoring dishes left and right.

  1. Grabe. Walang pinagkaiba sa mga freeloading bloggers and influencers kuno na gusto lang makalibre ng food in exchange of a good write up kahit minsan hindi naman talaga masarap ang product. Disgusting leeches!

  4. Walang masama na makatanggap mg "libre" kasi may katapat na "endorsement" pero it won't hurt if SS would offer to pay even just for the half amount of the product knowing that the seller is a starter palang.

  7. In fairness hindi nagpabayad ng cash. Kung post lang for the 3 days worth of food sales parang wala naman naargabyado.

  8. Wala naman masama kung for taste test lang yung ipinadala pero ang sabi na yung ipinadalang product eh sobrang dami na kung ibebenta eh pang 3 araw na kita, meaning pwedeng nagtake advantage si SS, ok lang sana kung parang 1 set lang for taste test.

    1. It all boils down to what is agreed upon. If nagpadala ng good for 3 days na kita yung seller e choice niya yun. That means the endorser is worth it. Sorry ha pero business is business. Kung fundraising yan baka masabi ko pa sana nga naging mas generous siya pero business yan so walang dapat ireklamo.

  12. If SS really wanted to help, ok na ang one of each product. Medyo taking advantage na yung 3 days worth of sale especially knowing that the business is just starting.

    Personally, I dont trust reviews coming from sponsored posts kasi most of the time, xdeals lang naman yang mga yan. Lalo na yung mga “influencers” kuno. Their motto is: “ Give me free food, and I will give you a good write up.” So tama yung sabi dun sa taas. Madaming freeloaders na celebs, influencers, and bloggers even before this pandemic. To all the start ups, be smart and dont be fooled by the number of followers. Minsan, fabricated din ang mga yan.

Parang wala naman ako nakikitang mali kay SS, nag online seller din ako dati, wish ko nga na ma promote produkto ko ng mga sikat na artista, kung na promote yun product mo madami ka magiging buyers, mababawi mo din yun 3 days na yun, lahat naman ng negosyo dumadaan sa gnyan. Di naman agad agad kkita ka.
