Honoring the Wish

Finishing a movie is merely half the story of its success. These days, to call a film successful, the box-office returns have to be high enough. A movie that earns less than or a little over its production cost can be considered a flop. The name of the game is to earn significantly more than the expenses incurred during production. Hence, production companies employ various marketing strategies to increase awareness to their film and encourage people to troop to the cinemas to watch.

One simple strategy to promote a film, which is often stipulated in the contract, is for the cast to be available for certain promo campaigns. For example, lead performers can be scheduled to guest on popular shows of networks, perform in malls, appear on posters, and use their social media accounts to plug the project. Thus, anyone working on a movie should be available to promote live.

In the case of Film Celebrity (FC), she was surprised as to why she was not given any call for a live appearance in the promotion of a movie. FC wondered, as she played a major role and she expected to be part of increasing the awareness of the said project. When FC asked Key Actor (KA), she was told to take the time to rest and prepare for her next projects. KA is aware that FC has several projects lined up and the promotion time can be to her advantage. Besides, KA was confident that the rest of the cast can already ensure the ticket strength of their project. FC took KA’s word.

One day, FC was talking to a Showbiz Reporter (SR) and she confided that she found it strange why she was not asked to join the rest of the team in promoting their movie. SR speculated that The Camp (TC) of one of the cast members may have requested for her not show her shadow to avoid any controversy and past issues be used for people to talk about the project. The idea sounded logical and FC laughed off the thought, as circumstances have already changed over the years. Nonetheless, KA was right that even without FC, their project performed within expectations.

‘I think that the power is the principle. The principle of moving forward, as though you have the confidence to move forward, eventually gives you confidence when you look back and see what you’ve done.’– Robert Downey Jr.
