Repost: Isabelle Daza Says Calling Card Video Was a Private Joke

Actress-model Isabelle Daza has responded to the growing backlash over her recent social media post of mocking the Japanese cultural practice of giving calling cards.

Speaking with the fashion website Preview, Daza explained that her post was a “private joke.”

“Well, it was a private joke that I did with my sister Ava. That’s basically it,” she was quoted as saying. “It annoys me sometimes that my sister does it because she’s not Japanese.”

In the Instagram Stories video which has been saved and shared by netizens, Daza is seen crumpling a calling card and throwing it to her younger sister, Ava.

The short clip had the text: “What I want to do when people hand me their calling cards like this.”

Daza’s post did not sit well with several netizens, including fashion blogger Tricia Gosingtian.

On Twitter, Gosingtian wrote: “I have no words! Please respect how other cultures show respect. Read up on Japanese meishi.”

“Business cards are like an extension of themselves. Hindi lang arte nila ‘yung gesture of giving/receiving it with two hands!” she added.

Last April, Daza apologized for her “offensive” Instagram Stories post that poked fun at African children while trying on a hat during her vacation.

“It was a lapse of judgment and I appreciate the feedback from you guys. Moving forward and I will be more mindful of what I post. Again, I am sorry,” she said.

    3. What about trying to think first before posting anything and explain later that it was just a private joke? Private jokes are not meant to be shared with everyone.

Uhmm.private joke meaning po nun is silang magkapatid or magkaibigan lang ang makakaintindi.ginagawa din po natin yun.halimbawa.in a group of people pag may batuhan ng jokes or asaran we dont expect na lahat ng nasa circle na yun ay makakagets. Maybe a certain two or three of them lang ang tatawa kasi that joke or storyy told was encountered by the three of them lang.hope that's clear. Btw, im not am it gurl.

I agree sa karamihan, if it's private, why make it public via social media? Attention whores.

You said it was a private joke between you and your sister but you said the word "people". So basically, na-negate na yung sinabi mo na annoyed ka when your sister does it.

Bakit ang title "whenever people" not "whenever my sister" mukhang nanglalahat kasi eh. What if your sister actually wants to adapt the cultural gesture for serious reasons?

    1. True that. What a lame excuse. I am not Japanese. Filipino based in another country. I work for clients all over the world and I pass my calling card. Rude for her to say that.

    2. I agree with you 12:34. I also do this pag nag aabot ng business cards and I didn't even know it's a Japanese thing. What's so annoying about it kaya.

    3. Tingin ko pa naman kay Isabelle educated and well brought up by her parents. Part of business etiquette on how to properly hand out your business cards.

  11. She has so many "private jokes" on a public account. Maybe she needs to keep her accounts private and she won't offend so many people.

    ReplyDelete
  12. She's really a spoiled brat.. I remember that post about african children.. this girl has no idea how the world goes. Sad. With all her money, she could have done so many things. Donating to charity, educating children who are victims of war and so much more.

  20. Private joke pero posted publicly haha yeah, what a joke ang damage control mo. Don't try so hard, it's not like you have anything to lose. You're more of a reality star, a D lister. So don't expend so much energy fibbing.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Even if her sister is not Japanese, the fact that Belle disrespected a polite gesture shows what an uncouth person she really is.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If it was a private joke, the why post it publicly? Hmmm

    ReplyDelete
  23. cras! no respect to other culture.tsk tsk tsk

    ReplyDelete
  24. Obviously ang pahiwatig ni Belle dito is another non-apology: "I'm sorry you didn't get the joke and don't have my sense of humour."

So basically she made it worse because she now revealed that she and her sister make fun of other cultures in private, and this is not just a one time occurrence. Repeat offenders and ignorant talaga sila and they are proud of it, to the point where they felt it okay to show their ignorance in public. Idiots.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Palusot si "non-foreigner" na aura ni Belle. Acting like a foreigner kunwari kahit the face doesn't look the part. How would she feel when people say these things to her, no? Tsk!
