Repost: Angel Locsin Almost Quit 'Showbiz' at Low Point in Her Career

The storm has passed and now it can be said: Angel Locsin was once on the verge of leaving ABS-CBN, and even submitted a resignation letter, after being overcome with self-doubt amid a series of challenges in her career and personal life.

Locsin, 33, made the candid revelation during a press conference Thursday for the upcoming primetime series “The General’s Daughter,” set to premiere on January 21.

The Dreamscape production, billed as one of ABS-CBN’s flagship programs in 2019, marks Locsin’s first lead role in a teleserye in five years. (She guest-starred in the 2017 fantaserye “La Luna Sangre.”)

“She is back,” goes the promotional tagline of “The General’s Daughter,” referring to Locsin’s long-awaited television return after 2014’s “The Legal Wife.”

Locsin agrees on the project being termed her comeback, especially after the turbulent time she had gone through.

“Nawala ‘yung tiwala ko sa sarili ko,” she began. “Feeling ko I’m a big disappointment noong time na ‘yon. Hindi ko nagawa ‘yung ini-expect of me. Iyon ‘yung nawala sa akin.”

Days leading up to the press conference, Locsin, in an Instagram post, referred to 2015 as a challenging period, and the year that followed as one that “broke me.”

Describing how she felt then, the actress said: “Disappointed ka sa sarili mo. ‘Yung mga times na akala mo, okay ka, pero ngayon kung babalikan mo, hindi ka pala okay. In denial ka lang. Trying to be strong, pero hindi ka okay, e.”

It was in 2015 when Locsin first revealed nursing a spine injury. In 2016, her role in a passion project, “Darna,” was effectively sent into limbo as she sought treatment for her back. That same year, she went through a bitter breakup with then-boyfriend Luis Manzano. In 2017, Locsin officially withdrew from “Darna,” citing her physical condition.

During the press conference, Locsin did not detail her past struggles, but said she drew strength from people who continued to believe in her, in particular the team behind Dreamscape, as well as executives of the Kapamilya network.

“Kinausap ako, tinanong kung ano ang gusto ko, hindi ako pinayagan mag-resign,” she said, referring to ABS-CBN President and CEO Carlo Katigbak. “Kahit ayaw mo na, kahit hindi ka na naniniwala sa sarili mo, pero may mga taong naniniwala na kaya mo, na nandiyan, nakasuporta lang sa ‘yo, talagang mabubuhayan ka ng loob, e.”

“Dahil sa kanila, nandidito ako. Dahil sa mga taong patuloy na sumusuporta sa akin. Dahil sa inyo na naniniwala sa akin, nandito po ako. Feeling ko utang ko ito sa inyo,” she added, addressing press members and her followers.

Locsin surmised that she needed to survive those testing years, “para marating ko kung ano ako, ‘yung outlook ko ngayon.”

For one, she has a newfound “maturity” when it comes to tackling physically demanding roles, citing her spine condition. Dubbed by fans as the “Action-Drama Queen,” Locsin has a track record of performing her own stunts, admittedly to the point of recklessness, in various portrayals.

While she still gets to do stunts now, “hindi na lang basta-basta.”

“Before mag-taping, nagpapa-PT (physical therapy) na ako, para the next day, kondisyon na ‘yung katawan ko. After nu’n, bantay ako sa ice packs, hot packs. ‘Pag alam kong hindi ko kaya, hindi ko ginagawa. Pero so far, wala naman silang niri-request sa aking gawin na alam kong alanganin sa akin,” she explained.

Referring to the production staff and creative heads, Locsin said: “Maingat po sila sa akin. Napaka-ingat nga po, sa totoo lang. Ako lang ang matigas ang ulo!”

Directed by Manny Palo and Mervyn Brondial, “The General’s Daughter” sees Locsin as Rhian, a soldier raised to kill her own father, leading to conflicts both physical and emotional.

In production as early as April 2018, the series was officially unveiled in November during ABS-CBN’s “Family is Love” trade event. Its first trailer unraveled a story spanning two generations and three families, with Rhian as the central figure.

That “The General’s Daughter” is being trumpeted as one of 2019’s biggest TV productions is not lost on the Locsin, who pointed out its remarkable casting coup.

Joining Locsin in the series are big-name screen veterans: Albert Martinez, Tirso Cruz III, Eula Valdez, Janice de Belen, and Maricel Soriano.

“‘Yung mga iniidolo kong artista noong nagsisimula pa lang ako o hindi pa ako nag-aartista, hindi ko naman akalain na sabay-sabay, sa isang show, pagsasamahin? Makakatrabaho ko, makak-eksena ko sila, makikita ko kung paano sila sa set every day. Iba ‘yung shock,” she said.

Also part of the cast are Paulo Avelino, JC de Vera, Arjo Atayde, Ryza Cenon, and the breakout tandem of Loisa Andalio and Ronnie Alonte.

“Umaapaw na gratitude,” Locsin said of being entrusted with a flagship teleserye. Sana maibalik ko ‘yung suportang ipinakita nila sa akin. Gusto ko na po mag-January 21!”

Letter from a Reader: 'PBA Player's Wife Verbally Abused and Humiliated My Children in Public'

Image courtesy of Fashion PULIS reader

Dear Fashion Pulis,

I certainly hope this would merit your attention. The wife of San Miguel Beermen player Marcio Lassiter - Jerlyn  Abasolo Pangilinan Lassiter - never heard of her name until one frightful Sunday afternoon, on Mother’s Day, as we were celebrating the occasion with my two daughters, Maureen (27), and Aika (26), niece, nephews and three young grandchildren.

From my unit at the 11th floor, I rushed to the swimming pool after receiving a message that someone was quarreling with my daughter, Maureen. Upon reaching the 8th floor of the amenities area, I immediately called the attention of several security personnel to escort me to find out what was happening at the pool.

I came across a family headed by an old woman I presumed was in her 70’s talking to my children. Maureen was trying to explain patiently about a misunderstanding. The old woman and her family seemed reluctant. I asked my daughters how everything started.

Pointing within a distance to Jerlyn Abasolo Pangilinan Lassiter, a woman who was ranting on her cellphone.  Maureen told me she had been accused of taking photos of this woman. She overheard her say to Maureen’s cousin,” What the f*** is her problem?”

Maureen showed and handed her phone to Jerlyn to prove that she was only taking “selfies,”  but that  woman brushed it off and angrily responded, “I don’t want to see that! What the f*** is your problem? Ano, your nose must be bleeding already!”

She said that in front of my grandchildren, ages 8, 3 and 2 years old. My 3-year-old granddaughter was crying out of fear. But that woman continued shouting arrogantly, "What’s your unit? Ano unit nyo? Tignan natin kung sino ang mas powerful dito. Tignan natin kung sino tenant ang papakinggan dito!"

Jerlyn Lassiter was on her cellphone when I walked towards her direction near the female changing room. Security barred me at few feet length when I called her out to explain what she  just did. At this point, she became agitated and reluctant to face me. I demanded that she come out and explain.

She shouted angrily, “You’re stupid! B*** Ka!”

I was shocked, but shouted back, “Stupid ka rin!”

Her next rebuttal, “ Oh yeah, is that the only English you know? ”

I was taken aback by her gutter language. I told security to record everything she said and prepare an incident report.

I went back to my daughters who were still explaining to the family that it was only a misunderstanding. The family, still angry and unconvinced, as the grandmother rudely said, “ Nauna kami dito!”

I told my daughters to pack up their things and we should just leave the premises. But not without my youngest daughter who retaliated sarcastically out of frustration, “Thank you for letting us use your clubhouse.”

My daughters tightly hugged to comfort each other. It was a very traumatic experience for us.

Jerlyn Lassiter has crossed boundaries. We had been insulted. She threatened my children and traumatized my very young grandchildren. I know the trauma would be there for a long time. What happened was clearly child abuse.

I would like to say that it is most unfair for us residents to be continually subjected / exposed to people like Jerlyn and her family who have such disturbing, disgusting and threatening behavior. Their conduct is simply incompatible with and contrary to the values enshrined in a supposed to be decent condominium living.

I hope this will serve as an example to all people like Jerlyn Lassiter with atrocious, uneducated and abominable attitude that they are not above the law, especially on child abuse and slander.

Jerlyn Lassiter, crossed my boundaries and traumatized my children/granchildren under the following violations:

CHILD ABUSE

RA7610

(1) Psychological and physical abuse, neglect, cruelty, sexual abuse and emotional maltreatment;

(2) Any act by deeds or words which debases, degrades or demeans the intrinsic worth and dignity of a child as a human being;

(5) Circumstances, which threaten or endanger the survival and normal development of children.

SLANDER

Penalized by Article 358 of the Revised Penal Code, slander or oral defamation is libel committed by oral (spoken) means instead of in writing. The term oral defamation or slander, as now understood, has been defined as the speaking of base and defamatory words, which tend to prejudice another in his reputation, office, trade, business, or means of livelihood. (Villanueva vs. People, G.R. No. 160351 [2006])

A Change in Luck

When someone starts in showbiz, most elder celebrities will advise the celebrity to remember that the persons whom he/she will meet going up are the same people he/she will meet going down. Be it the CEO, director, utility man, scriptwriter, fellow artists, or producer, a newbie should exhibit respect and humility. While a budding celebrity might have that advice in his/her heart, people around him/her often behave otherwise.

There was a time when Pretty Actress (PA) was a major talent of the network. PA was given lead roles in various projects and soon, she was able to garner fans who followed her shows and her social media activities. During these times, PA was partnered with Cute Boy (CB), who was struggling with his career. Nonetheless, PA and CB had a good partnership and had been paired several times in various projects. Clearly, they were being built as a loveteam.

While the loveteam of PA and CB had enough followers who wanted to see them together, a Self-righteous Member (SM) of the camp of PA did not at all approve of the closeness that was developing between PA and CB. Although talented, CB did not have that appeal then and was dismissed by SM as someone who was just using PA to gain fame. SM allegedly often embarrassed CB, who did not say anything despite being put down by SM. Given that CB is not someone from whom PA can benefit, he was regarded lowly by PA and her camp. After a series of projects, PA and CB were given separate projects.

Soon, the network started to develop other female talents and even stayed on with their reliable stars. Realizing that she was not getting as many projects, PA went back to school to complete her studies. Thus, she was not as visible as before. Meanwhile, CB waited patiently for his time and without warning, his break came. Fast forward to the present: CB has surpassed the popularity of PA, who has gone without several projects in the past months. Some people think that karma has caught up with them. CB, who has remained optimistic and patient, is now reaping the fruits of his hard work. By contrast, PA, who treated CB in a not so pleasant way in the past, is feeling the negative outcome.

Although she does not have any projects, PA had to show that she could still have the same lifestyle. Worse, it seems that she might be having some financial issues, which could have resulted from the lack of a main source of income. Incidentally, while SM did not favor CB for PA, PA is now involved with Talented Celebrity (TC). Still, followers have raised questions of why TC seems to be quiet when it comes to their relationship. Allegedly, PA has an attitude problem and some fans have allegedly experienced being treated negatively given her cranky moods. Hence, such incidents have resulted in speculations that TC is protecting his image given the negative image associated with PA.

Repost: Miss USA Organizers Suspended Over Allegations of Rigging, Preselection of Winner Fil-Am Miss Texas R'Bonney Gabriel

The Miss Universe Organization has suspended the organizers of the Miss USA pageant — Miss Brand Corp — after allegations surfaced that the competition was rigged and the winner predetermined.

Miss Texas R'Bonney Gabriel was crowned Miss USA on Oct. 3.

Shortly after her win, contestants began to complain that she had actually been "preselected" to be the next titleholder.

As allegations continued to surface, the Miss Universe Organization decided to suspend the pageant organizers and investigate.

"After thorough deliberation, Miss Universe Organization has decided to suspend Miss Brand immediately," the Miss Universe Organization told Fox News Digital in a statement.

"Miss Universe Organization will be taking over the Miss USA program while a comprehensive, third-party investigation is conducted. The investigation will be led by the law firm Holland & Knight, and the findings will be used as the basis for the appropriate action.

"We are appreciative of the cooperation from Miss USA Director Crystle Stewart as we work through the process. Our commitment to contestants and fans is our priority, and we will keep them top of mind as we move forward."

Stewart, who was crowned Miss USA in 2008, is the director of Miss Brand. She also became the president of the Miss USA Organization in 2020. Her time as president has seen other scandals. Her husband, Max Sebrechts, who she is reportedly separated from, was accused of sexual misconduct.

It's unclear if Stewart has been suspended from her role at Miss Brand or as president of Miss USA.

"The current allegations that the 2022 Miss USA pageant was in favor of one contestant over another are misleading and simply not factual," Stewart said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "I am fully cooperating with the open investigation being conducted by a third party at the request of the Miss Universe Organization. I am eager for all of the claims to be disproven, and the facts will speak for themselves; ultimately, putting all contestants' minds at ease once and for all that this was indeed a fair pageant.

"As a former titleholder, I know firsthand how much hard work, mental preparation and dedication goes into the process of being on the main stage. The last thing I would ever want to do is discredit or deny the contestants an equal opportunity to a fair competition. I would never jeopardize my dream of running an organization that empowers these young women."

Before the Miss Universe Organization announced the news to the public, an email was sent out to 2022 contestants. Contestant Mikala McGhee provided Fox News Digital with a copy of the email.

The email contained a statement similar to the one given to Fox News Digital by the organization, adding, "Our commitment to you and our fans is our top priority, and that will be top of mind as we move forward."

McGhee, who is Miss Missouri 2022, noted that she thinks Gabriel was the "preselected" winner to bring in the Filipina community.

"I think that [Miss USA is] in a state where they are trying to revamp and re-glamorize pageantry here in the United States because we've been seeing a constant drop-off in enrollment for pageants, and not just in the Miss USA system," McGhee told the Daily Mail.

McGhee also claimed that Gabriel has Houston, Texas, connections that may have helped her win.

"Not to say that Gabriel couldn't have gone out here and won this on her own, but I think that she was a Houstonian," McGhee said. "Everyone, again, from the Miss Brand... and most from Miss USA Organization, including Crystle herself, are from Houston. They're Houston natives.

"[Gabriel] worked within the Miss Academy closely in her preparation, which would not only be promotion for Miss USA, the organization, but Miss Academy, the brand, because it's a Miss USA winner who works closely with that organization."

Miss Academy is also run by Stewart.

Miss Montana 2022 Heather Lee O'Keefe also emphasized the Texas connection.

"I think this is a big issue that a lot of us are trying to bring light to is the fact [Stewart] owns so much of the organization. She owns the main organization, Miss USA, and she also owns the main sponsor of the organization, which is a big issue we all have with it," O'Keefe told the Daily Mail.

Repost: As Per NY Post, Daughter of Kim Atienza Received Academic Sanction from UPenn after Joining Anti-Israel Encampment

Images courtesy of www.nypost.com

A University of Pennsylvania student who claimed she was left “homeless” when administrators kicked her off campus for participating in an anti-Israel encampment is the daughter of a wealthy Filipino family.

Eliana Atienza, 19 — who told the Philadelphia Inquirer she had nobody to turn to for help in the US after she was kicked off campus in early May — is the daughter of Kim Atienza, a prominent media personality in the Philippines who is partial to showing off his extravagant lifestyle online.

Her mother, Felicia Atienza, graduated from the Wharton Business School and has served as the president and CEO of several international schools over the years, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

The family enjoys flaunting their wealth on social media, with posts showing their extensive motorcycle collection, first-class flights with private showers and caviar service and hobnobbing with celebrities.

Despite being supposedly destitute herself, Atienza recently took a trip to Antarctica, according to posts from her own social media, and has traveled across the world to the likes of Alaska and Paris.

Nevertheless, Atienza claimed in an interview with KYW Newsradio that UPenn administrators had left her cast out on the street with nowhere to turn.

“I don’t have any family to go back home to here,” she told the outlet.

She was one of six students suspended from campus on May 9 for participating in an anti-Israel encampment that had taken up a campus green to protest Israel and its war against Hamas following its deadly Oct. 7 terror attack.

Police began breaking up the encampment the following day.

Atienza participated in unsuccessful negotiations with school administrators over the demonstrators’ desires to have the university divest itself of any investments connected to Israel.

She is also a part of Fossil Free Penn — devoted to having the school divest investments in fossil fuel companies — which co-signed a letter in support of “Palestinians who are fighting to liberate their lands from the Israeli Occupation,” published just days after Oct. 7.

Atienza did not respond to requests for comment.

South Korean Star and New Philippine Tourism Ambassador Seo In Guk Explores Boracay, Samples Pinoy Sisig and Sinigang

Seo In Guk strolls along shores of Boracay

Shortly after being named the new celebrity Tourism Ambassador for the Philippines, South Korean singer-songwriter and actor Seo In Guk visited the world-renowned Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan, marking his first experience on the picturesque shores.

During the weekend, Seo In Guk was visibly captivated by the stunning beauty that has made Boracay one of the top island destinations globally. His activities included a round of golf, enjoying the gentle sunset breeze aboard a yacht, and greeting his Filipino fans during boat tours. He also indulged in local culinary delights, tried famous dishes such as sinigang and sisig, and experienced the famed crystal kayak activity along the shores of Station 1.

To recall, Seo In Guk, a beloved figure in the South Korean entertainment landscape, officially partnered with the Department of Tourism (DOT) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco last Friday (Feb. 21), Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Chief Operating Officer Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles and Neocolors Production and Advertising Inc. President and CEO Dr. Daguno-Canoy as witnesses. This agreement, which will last for one year, allows him to promote the Philippines to the South Korean market and fans worldwide.

As the new tourism ambassador, Seo In Guk is set to enhance the Philippines' visibility as a travel destination. His role includes participating in promotional events, sharing experiences on social media, and attending various press engagements. He may also take part in official events organized by the TPB, both in the Philippines and South Korea.

In a heartfelt message before the media during the signing ceremony held at the DOT Central Office in Makati City, the South Korean star expressed his love for the Philippines.

“Thank you and it feels very nice. It is an honor for me to be on this stage. I really feel a big responsibility as a representative of and as a promoter for one country. I really want to thank everyone for making this happen for me and I really want to say that I will give back all the love that you gave to me and I will be someone to promote the Philippines to others in the future. Thank you very much. Mahal ko kayo,” he said. Secretary Frasco, for her part, expressed gratitude to the celebrity, noting that the partnership will further strengthen the ties of South Korea and the Philippines.

Seo In Guk receives Love the Philippines token from Tourism Secretary

“We are very honored to be in the presence of a man who is beloved worldwide for his vast talent, endless creativity, and now, his evident love for the Philippines. We are delighted to formally welcome Mr. Seo In Guk as the Philippine Celebrity Tourism Ambassador for South Korea. This appointment strengthens the cultural and tourism exchanges between the Philippines and Korea,” she said.

The tourism chief emphasized that South Korea has been a consistent top market for the Philippines.

“To Mr. Seo In Guk, welcome to our tourism family. Your dedication and enthusiasm will play a vital role in inspiring more travelers to embrace the many reasons to Love the Philippines. We look forward to the stories you will share and the meaningful experiences that you will create through this partnership,” she said.

In a message, TPB COO Nograles added that the appointment of Seo In Guk as the new celebrity tourism ambassador underscores the commitment of the promotional arm of the DOT to showcasing the unparalleled beauty of the Philippines to South Korea and the world.

“We eagerly anticipate the positive impact this collaboration will have on Philippine tourism, as Seo In Guk embarks on his journey to discover and share the many reasons to love the Philippines. We invite everyone to join him and be inspired to experience the wonders of our nation firsthand,” she said.

South Korean celebrity’s visit highlights passion-driven tourism collaboration

In a statement dated February 24, 2025, Dr. Christine May Daguno-Canoy, who is handling the activities of Seo In Guk in the country, together with Mr. Choongwon Su, as the Chief Development Officer, shared that the partnership was driven by the South Korean Star’s passion for the Philippines.

“Seo In Guk's genuine passion for the Philippines was a pivotal factor in his choice to volunteer to be a Philippine tourism ambassador to South Korea. Seo In Guk's has shown a heartfelt interest in exploring the Philippines and sharing his experiences with his millions of followers in South Korea and around the world. By leveraging his esteemed status as an actor and singer, he aims to highlight our country's potential as a tourist destination,” she said.

The foreign celebrity debuted as a singer in 2009 after winning the first season of the South Korean reality show Superstar K. His acting debut was in 2012 in the drama series Reply 1997. He also appeared in the hit series Shopping King Louie and Doom At Your Service as the lead actor.

“It is important to clarify that this partnership was driven by personal motivation rather than financial gain as Seo In Guk waived his professional fees for this partnership. He made this decision independently, without any expectations of financial renumeration, which is why our company, Neocolors collaborated with Story J and Episode Music to bring this initiative to life. Seo In Guk's recent visit to Boracay is a testament to his commitment, where he actively engaged in creating content that showcases the beauty of our country. This partnership is not only a celebration of our cultural ties but also a strategic effort to enhance the visibility of the Philippines on the global stage,” added the official.

DOT open to more partnerships to strengthen “Love The Philippines” campaign

Meanwhile, Secretary Frasco expressed gratitude to the tourism industry partners who made Seo In Guk’s visit to the Philippines possible, including Philippine Airlines, Shangri-La Boracay, Shangri-La The Fort, and Fairways and Bluewater.

She emphasized that the DOT remains open to collaborations with celebrities and influencers who genuinely support promoting the Philippines as a top travel destination.

“The Department of Tourism is grateful to those who come forward and volunteer to work with us. That's why we are extending our sincerest thanks to those who are sharing all the good stories about the Philippines so our numbers will increase in terms of jobs, arrivals, and revenue for the benefit of Filipinos whose livelihoods depend on tourism,” Secretary Frasco said.

Giddy-fan Mentality

Assuming reporter (AR) might have pushed her luck too far when she covered the arrival of a foreign celebrity (FC). A common and acceptable practice in the country is that an authorized PR firm handles the coverage of any foreign artist, who usually comes to the country due to business matters. In the case of FC, he came over for an endorsement. Hence, the official firm should be respected in terms of arrival announcements and other commitments of the foreign artists it brings over, and the firm has the sole right to authorize press people for interviews, which include photos and other press releases.

While the fans of FC tweeted how much they appreciated AR for her story, AR allegedly broke protocol by tweeting the arrival of FC without permission from the official firm. Then, upon the arrival of FC, AR met him and behaved unbecoming of a professional reporter. AR tweeted “he put his arms around my shoulder,” and uploaded personal photos with him at the airport. This behavior of AR did not escape the attention of the US representative of FC. In fact, the US rep frowned at what AR did, and called the attention of the official firm. Because of AR, the PR firm was placed in hot water.

This incident is not the first time AR behaved unprofessionally. Sometime ago, AR also gatecrashed a private dinner hosted for a young Asian actor (AA). Onlookers were shocked to see AR literally pushing her front towards AA, not minding that the manager of AA and the company CEO were  just beside them.

To prevent further embarrassment, the said firm is seeking to ban AR from covering certain exclusives. Of course, had AR been more responsible in her use of social media then none of this hullabaloo would have happened. Perhaps, AR should be reminded she should behave like a professional news reporter, and not act like a giddy fan every time she comes in contact with a foreign artist.

Universal Records Philippines Forges Partnership with SHOW Korea to Further Strengthen The P-Pop Scene

Amid massive demand, popularity, and influence of Pinoy Pop or P-Pop right now in the landscape of the Philippine music scene, the home of the finest Original Pilipino Music (OPM), Universal Records Philippines along with SHOW Co., Ltd. have agreed to form a strategic partnership to further strengthen its hype and exposure here in the country.

It also aims to normalize giving the best possible talent and entertainment in today’s mainstream local and even international scenes, followers and supporters of P-Pop while contributing in promoting the one-of-kind Filipino culture and artistry as well.

Present at the contract signing ceremony were Universal Records Operations Manager Peter Chan, Managing Director Kathleen Dy-Go, along with ShowBT Korea, SHOW Korea, and SBTown Philippines CEO & President Geong Seong-Han, also known as Tatang Robin, with Ethan Yang, and Adie Hong.

It’s not a secret that Universal Records has been the major record label which can be called the pioneer in promoting and supporting the rise of K-Pop music here in the country since the mid-late 2000s. From selling CDs and spearheading shows, the label had been there and done that. And right now, it tries to remain at the forefront of innovative promotion of these kinds of music, as well as bridging the gap between different cultures.

UR’s Kathleen Dy-Go believes that there are a lot of talented individuals here in the Philippines who can be “idol material” and it is high time for these people to be exposed to high quality and intensive training, while acquiring the commendable discipline that Korean agencies instill in their trainees.

“It’s such a great honor for the label to acquire a partnership of this caliber. We promise that we’ll work very hard for the potential groups that we will be launching along with SHOW Korea and SBTown Philippines and of course, we have a lot of surprises in store for all of the P-Pop fans out there,” she says.

For the beloved Tatang Robin, it’s finally the right time for SHOW Korea, SBTown Philippines and UR to make this partnership happen so he approached the label first this time around. Both easily agreed to have an immediate meeting since both parties are interested and share the same vision.

“I want to express my gratitude to Universal Records because it did not take long for the label to agree to this amazing partnership. It was quick,” he shares.

As a great CEO himself, Tatang Robin has an exemplary experience in creating a really great boy group, evident in his dedication in training and debuting SB19, who's perhaps the most popular P-Pop group right now. So now it’s a new challenge for him to create an ultimate P-Pop girl group that will be idolized by many P-Pop and K-pop supporters. Although he’s nervous, he’s optimistic that SHOW Korea and SBTown Philippines can pull it off, of course, with the aid of UR.

He explains, “I believe that it’s the girls’ era this time around here in the Philippine market. As you all know, the most famous groups in South Korea right now are girl groups. It’s just very common here in this world that there’s really an order for everything. So, I think this time is already the right time for the girl groups to be at the top. I hope that this girl group that we’re going to debut is the first to be nominated internationally, like in Billboard.”

“If only fans give their love and support just like they did before in SB19, I believe that it’s also possible. Most of the talents we have, they have been training for up to four years. The shortest is one year and seven months. And as you all know I don’t debut talents who are not yet ready,” he adds.

Looks like the fans are in for a treat in the coming weeks and months because of this exciting partnership.

Question: Is China's Richest Man "Jeje Kuripot?"

Zong Qinghou: China's Richest Man Eats With His Workers and Lives on $20 a Day

Source: www.policymic.com

Zong Qinghou is known for his simple wardrobe, gritty language from a youth spent during the height of the Cultural Revolution, and for living on $20 a day. But he is also known as the CEO of Hangzhou Wahaha Group and the richest man in China, personally worth $13 billion. Zong's lifestyle provides insight into the work ethic responsible for his company's enormous success, and provides a lesson for the more flamboyance-prone business leaders around the world.

The combination of humility and razor-sharp focus are key traits embodied by Zong that all CEOs should prioritize. Zong credits his stripped-down lifestyle to his success in business: "Focusing on doing one thing and doing it properly is the simplest but also the most difficult thing."

He has retained his position as the leader of the company since its launch, and the sales and production departments have been overseen by the same manager for the last 25 years. Zong, whose company has maintained a 60% annual growth rate since it started as a beverage producer, minimizes his distractions by limiting his choices. He sticks to a simple routine of cigarettes and tea as he proceeds through his day, overseeing an empire of 150 consumer products that produced a profit of over $8 billion in 2012.

He also detests banquets and fancy meals and eats pickled vegetables and tofu every day, and makes it a point to eat in the staff cafeteria of his company if he is not away on a business trip.

His devotion to his work clearly emerges from an unflinching entrepreneurial spirit. Even at 67, Zong shows no signs of slowing down or handing the reigns to someone else, and credits his own sense of responsibility to the company and to the products for this commitment.

His 31-year-old daughter Kelly Zong, who is now assuming a senior role in the company, has been rumored to be his successor but he shows his awareness of the fact that she has a while to go before he steps down: "If she has any problems, I’ll go and wipe her butt."

He is hailed for this salt-of-the-earth perspective and seems genuinely unfazed by his riches, which allows him to focus on the success of his company and not his own social status. When describing his wardrobe, he explains why only spends up to $2 on his plain sneakers and clothes: "People cannot tell if I were wearing clothes worth a thousand ($160) or a hundred ($16) [yuan], so why would I want to spend money on them?"

His renowned focus is oft-repeated in stories by staff, including one where an employee suggested Zong relocate his office to a lake-side near a favorite teahouse.

Zong quickly shot the idea down: "I would be absorbed in the tea and the view and forget business completely."

How Can a 2nd 'Poorest' Senator Afford a Balesin Wedding?

The lavish wedding of Senator Chiz Escudero and actress Heart Evangelista raises some questions about propriety

It may as well be the wedding of the year – the nuptials between showbiz princess Heart Evangelista and one-time presidential aspirant Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero. Theirs is a love matched in heaven, witnessed and graced by movers and shakers in politics, business, media, and showbiz.

Their union defied a Shakespearean tragedy. An earlier marriage in 1999 which produced a twin for him crumbled, and in 2012, that union was annulled. For her part, she has had her share of heartbreaks, compounded by overly protective parents.

Like her past relationships, the parents were against her latest inamorata. After all, there's a 15-16 year gap between them. She's just 30; he's turning 46 this year. Despite her age, her parents say their daughter is still immature and “thinks like a young girl.”

Escudero, they believe, is just manipulating their daughter “into going against the family.” But Heart declared her emancipation and this time, listened to well, her heart.

On February 15 this year, they exchanged “I dos” in the exclusive, private, members-only Balesin resort in Quezon province.

Star-studded

Like any ceremony befitting royalty, Evangelista and Escudero’s wedding was a marriage of politics and business, with the added glitter of showbiz. Easily, it could be the grandest matrimonial event of the year.

The principal sponsors say it all. Some of the high-profile corporate personalities were basically lifted from Forbes’ list of richest Filipinos, led by Hans Sy, scion of business tycoon Henry Sy of the SM group of companies. The A-list sponsors included Ramon Ang, president and CEO of San Miguel Corporation, Fernando Zobel of Ayala Corporation, Andrew Tan of Megaworld Corporation, Lance Gokongwei of Robinson’s Corporation, Cebu Pacific and JG Summit, and Bobby Ongpin of Alphaland. Property developer Jerry Acuzar of New San Jose Builders was also part of this elite list.

From the media side, ABS-CBN head Gabby Lopez (who was represented by younger brother Ernie Lopez of ABS-CBN Publishing), Kapuso network head Felipe Gozon and GMA 7 executives Gilbert Duavit and Lilybeth Rasonable, and TV anchor Mel Tiangco also stood as principal sponsors.

From politics, the principal sponsors included General Santos City Mayor Adelbert W. Antonino, former Rizal district Representative Gilberto Duavit, Isabela Governor Faustino Dy Jr, and Mayor Esther Hamor of Sorsogon.

From the world of showbiz, Viva Entertainment chairman Vicente del Rosario, actress-director-scriptwriter Bibeth Siguion-Reyna, Susan Roces, and Jackie Lou Blanco joined in. And let’s not forget President Benigno Aquino III, who was tapped as the best man in absentia.

2nd reception

Widely covered by the media, the wedding qualifies for a fairy tale. Photos posted on Instagram and other social media outlets showed a dreamy reception ambiance, with all the hallmarks of expensive elegance.

The bride’s wedding gown was inspired by Grace Kelly, designed by Dubai-based fashion designer Ezra Santos. The groom’s suit was by renowned fashion designer Paul Cabral.

A second gown, which Evangelista wore at the Manila reception for friends and colleagues who were not on the Balesin guest list, was designed by US-based Monique Lhuillier.

Held at The Blue Leaf Filipinas in Parañaque, the second reception was attended by more than a thousand invitees, based on reports.

By any measure, the Escudero-Evangelista nuptial was anything but simple.

And this is where Escudero, the lawmaker, may have failed the standard.

Conflict of interest

Already, tapping biggies in the corporate world as principal sponsors has raised the eyebrows of some purists who think that Escudero crossed the thin ethical line between public service and private interests.

As senator, Escudero, who is a member of the powerful Blue Ribbon committee, participates in Senate hearings and probes that range from public fund misuse to bad corporate practices of companies engaged in government contracts.

For instance, in the Senate probe on the alleged hidden wealth of the Binay family, officials of Hilmarc’s Construction, which was behind several big-ticket projects in Makati, were summoned to the hearings to explain the company's side.

A more recent case was Ongpin, who was summoned to explain the alleged anomalous joint venture agreement involving a property of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines.

At the very least, by naming them as wedding sponsors, Escudero would have to recuse himself from participating in any probe that may involve any of his principal sponsors.

Escudero was seen at the Senate hearing on the Boy Scouts-Alphaland controversy on Wednesday, February 18, where Ongpin was among the resource persons, but he didn't participate in it.

He arrived in the afternoon – the hearing began late morning – but left quickly and did not ask any questions. The hearing was held just days after his wedding in Balesin where Ongpin was among the primary sponsors. The businessman also owns the resort.

Escudero will also have to inhibit from any Senate probe involving competitors of his wedding sponsors to insulate himself from allegations of conflict of interest. Somehow, through this, he has defanged himself as a public servant doing public service for public good.

Code of conduct

While Escudero’s public role and private decisions can be debated upon, what’s clear under the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees or RA 6713 is that public servants “and their families shall lead modest and simple lives appropriate to their positions and income.” They are also supposed “to not indulge in extravagant or ostentatious display of wealth in any form.”

As a rule, public officials are required to maintain “a standard of living within the public official and employee’s visible means of income as correctly disclosed in his income tax returns, annual statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN) and other documents relating to financial and business interests and connections.”

Question is: was the wedding itself within Escudero’s “visible means of income?” Does it measure up to the modest and simple lifestyle invoked by the law?

Did the newly-wed couple observe tradition of the groom shouldering much of the expense or were they egalitarian in sharing the tab? How much of their personal money did they shell out?

While not exactly filthy rich or dirt poor by an ordinary man’s standard, Escudero is not exactly wallowing in wealth.

SALNs

In fact, only two years ago, he was considered the "poorest" senator with a total declared net worth of P4.017 million.

From 2007 to 2011, when his marriage to Christine Elizabeth Flores was not yet annulled, Escudero’s net worth ranged between P7.4 million to P9.867 million. Between those years, his cash on hand and in banks hovered between P1.2 million to P3.7 million, with the rest of his net worth in real and personal properties.

In 2012, after the couple’s split was made official, Escudero’s net worth dipped from P9.867 million to P4.017 million, displacing Senator Antonio Trillanes IV who had been the perennial "poorest" senator. His cash on hand also went south with only P900,000.

The sharp decrease in his net worth can be attributed to the court-ordered transfer of the former couple’s two residential condominiums to their two children.

In his latest 2013 SALN declaration, Escudero’s net worth jumped to P8.243 million, on the strength of properties – 5 residential and one – he acquired by “succession.” (Escudero’s father, former Agriculture Secretary and Sorsogon First District Representative Salvador Escudero died in 2012). His cash on hand also rose to P3.183 million.

Still, he remains the second "poorest" senator, behind Trillanes.

No official figure has been given on how much was spent for the grand Escudero-Evangelista nuptial. Given that public officials have still until April 30 to file their 2014 SALNs, it would be interesting to find out how the lavish wedding was pulled off based on the senator's net worth.

Specifically, it will at least provide a glimpse of his liquidity status just before the wedding.

Still, any SALN adjustment resulting from his new married status will only be reflected next year, in 2016, since the cut-off period for SALN declaration is December 31.

This means Escudero’s 2015 SALN will have to wait until April 30, 2016. And in the space provided for spouse, he will now have a name to fill it.

Repost: Kobe and Andre Paras on Reconciling with Mom Jackie Forster

On May 9th, Andre and Kobe Paras visited GMA Network to release a statement concerning their much-talked-about reconciliation with their mother, Jackie Forster.

Andre and Kobe personally shared their thoughts on their reconciliation shortly after they made a courtesy call to GMA Network Chairman & CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon and President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr.

Kobe started his statement by sharing how they’ve made a decision to reconnect with their mother, Jackie, after being separated for years.

He said, “Ever since we were kids our dad (Benjie Paras) will always ask us if we want to see our mom. Andre and I made our decision not to just because you know we're kids palang eh. We didn't really know what forgiveness was so at least now we realized that we're grown and we've been through a lot na.”

Kobe admitted that the "forgiveness" that they were waiting to come took some time. Through it all, their dad Benjie gave them the support that they needed.

“It's time to forgive our mom and you know at least now we're all happy and forgiveness is not something you can force to anyone. Forgiveness takes time. There's a lot of people who think na they're talking bad about me,

"Andre, my dad and I our whole lives because like they're saying a dad is a bad person for not making us forgive our mom. At the same time, he's one of the greatest dads ever because he listened to us. He listened to what Andre and I had to say; not just with forgiving our mom but like in basketball and in school. He never forces to do anything. He's the type of dad who's just there for us to support us no matter what.

"So I'm just glad na I'm 20 and Andre's 22, we're more mature and we've just decided na it makes sense to just forgive our mom because we lived the lives they have when they were young. Now that we're mature, we're happy na ito 'yung nangyayari. I'm just happy na this all happened in God's blessing.”

Andre followed his brother’s statement by saying that all throughout his showbiz career, he was constantly asked about his relationship with Jackie. Now he’s pleased to declare that his relationship with his biological mom is in the process of healing.

“Four years na ako dito, of course maraming nagtatanong sa akin always the first question eh. Kamusta na kayo ng nanay mo? I'd always say no comment or give me time and I'm thankful na you guys gave me time and wala naman kaming sinabi na we hate her, we dislike her.

"It's just that we needed time to heal and like what Kobe said, we're more mature now. It's our decision naman noong bata kami kasi you know. That was our parents' roles so they're there to respect our decision. I'm thankful now, I believe this is the right age, 20-22. Mature na po kami.”

The Kapuso star also disclosed that he’s grateful for his dad’s unwavering support and for their stepmother, Lyxen Diomampo, for giving them love all these years.

“I also wanna thank our stepmom, Lyxen. She was there to treat us like her own. And a good example is that it hurts lang there are a lot of negative comments about her. But if you guys see what we are right now we could've been problematic people.

"We could've been doing other things that are bad or negative. But we're raised right and I'm proud of that. I just want to thank my dad and stepmom for always being there for us, our stepmom for treating us like her own.

"I'm thankful for all the support that you guys have given us by being patient. There you have it, we're all happy and I hope you guys are happy as well. Kaya thank you so much for the patience, thank you again for the love and support."
