Repost: As Per NY Post, Daughter of Kim Atienza Received Academic Sanction from UPenn after Joining Anti-Israel Encampment

A University of Pennsylvania student who claimed she was left “homeless” when administrators kicked her off campus for participating in an anti-Israel encampment is the daughter of a wealthy Filipino family.

Eliana Atienza, 19 — who told the Philadelphia Inquirer she had nobody to turn to for help in the US after she was kicked off campus in early May — is the daughter of Kim Atienza, a prominent media personality in the Philippines who is partial to showing off his extravagant lifestyle online.

Her mother, Felicia Atienza, graduated from the Wharton Business School and has served as the president and CEO of several international schools over the years, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

The family enjoys flaunting their wealth on social media, with posts showing their extensive motorcycle collection, first-class flights with private showers and caviar service and hobnobbing with celebrities.

Despite being supposedly destitute herself, Atienza recently took a trip to Antarctica, according to posts from her own social media, and has traveled across the world to the likes of Alaska and Paris.

Nevertheless, Atienza claimed in an interview with KYW Newsradio that UPenn administrators had left her cast out on the street with nowhere to turn.

“I don’t have any family to go back home to here,” she told the outlet.

She was one of six students suspended from campus on May 9 for participating in an anti-Israel encampment that had taken up a campus green to protest Israel and its war against Hamas following its deadly Oct. 7 terror attack.

Police began breaking up the encampment the following day.

Atienza participated in unsuccessful negotiations with school administrators over the demonstrators’ desires to have the university divest itself of any investments connected to Israel.

She is also a part of Fossil Free Penn — devoted to having the school divest investments in fossil fuel companies — which co-signed a letter in support of “Palestinians who are fighting to liberate their lands from the Israeli Occupation,” published just days after Oct. 7.

Atienza did not respond to requests for comment.

  1. I have to point out several things. First, there are celebrities so flaunting is just normal. Secondly, you should have been cautious bcoz youre powerless in US and any opinion must be kept to yourself nlang Sana. Walla ka sa homecourt mo. Lastly, ask for help from parents and transfer school if kick out ka na lala.

If she answered no tapos here she is ayy red flag ka na sa homeland security. Sana ganyan din sya ka active pagsuporta sa rights ng mga kababayan nya noong nasa Pilipinas sya. Ang tapang nya mag alsa alsa she should know the consequences. Pa victim pa homeless eh any yaman ng mommy nito.

    2. I agree with 7:10. Baka naka in-campus dormitory siya kaya homeless talaga siya when she was kicked out. And what she said about not having a family to go back home to "here" might be true as well kung wala naman talaga siyang immediate family sa US na mauuwian, hence, homeless is the appropriate word.

    3. You guys are so naive. You think she slept on the streets that night? You really think wala silang family in NY?

    4. Wealthy raw sila kaya puwede siyang mag-rent sa labas ng school. Mag-apartment siya, o kaya ay kumuha ng roommates sa apartment.

    5. If she was kick out of the dormitory she can rent an apartment near UPenn for sure walang shortage ng place to rent in a campus/university area. She knows what she’s doing, the rules are out there she should have a back up plan.

    6. she's only homeless if she does not have the MEANS to rent an apartment. heck, they can buy her a whole house if they want to! and the activities she engaged in are not peaceful protests.

    1. Hindi nila pinapalabas na pa victim sya. Pa-victim talaga sya. This is one thing I can’t understand. It’s okay to support Palestine but to force your school to diveet their “supposed” interests in Israel? So hindi pa kayo sigurado kung meron nga? Besides what does your school have to do with war? They couldn’t care less. Pressure your government instead

    2. So what do you think? Is he a victim or not?

  7. She was indeed 'homeless' though since she was kicked out from the campus and so from her campus accommodation. The article attacking her family for their "flaunting" of riches but shying away from who actually influenced this kicking out is hypocritical. Eh mga Jews naman major donors naman ng mga universities na to. Unfortunately malakas ang mga Jews sa America since mayayaman talaga sila. Kudos to her for standing for Palestine. University students in Ireland made their own encampment and they won, Trinity College Dublin (the oldest university in Ireland) had announced they were going to divest from any investments that has links to Israel. They have already lost funding but at least now they also stand with their students. Just yesterday Ireland, Norway and Spain recognised the state of Palestine.

Israel wanted the Palestinian land for themselves and used force to drive them away, massacred, tortured, arrested them without charges, controlled public utilities and even the airspace. If you have been oppressed for so many years, do you just sit back quietly and allow your oppressors to contnuously abuse you? Or do you resist and fight back? If there are no oppressors and abusers, there will be no resistance.

Sure, the Hamas is the problem but the collateral damage of the war is so bad. Educate yourself first. Hamas does not represent the entire Palestinian people…so they do not deserve the constant bombings from Israel… so as the Zionist government in Israel does not represent the entire Israel. Ceasefire is the way to go but obviously nobody wants that because they both want to win. Also, technically she was right, she is homeless as she was kicked out of the campus. And it’s not easy to find a place to stay right away especially if you do not have family close by. Wealth has nothing to do with that. Whether she comes from a rich family or not- the fact still remains that she was kicked out of her “home”. The entire post is so malicious… is this how news is written now? 23. NY Post is very biased when it comes to Israel. Protesting against genocide is not antisemitic. If that's the case, why is it a lot of other Jews and even rabbis have been against the genocide? Does that make them antisemitic too? There's a difference between antisemitic and being anti-Zionist. They are against the govt itself that's been continuing this genocide despite so many countries and even the UN have already been calling them out. Whether she's a US citizen or not, she has every right to protest just like any other student there. A university should be a safe space for learning, but also a space to speak up. This is not the first time there has been protests for different causes in universities, but you can clearly see the bias of all these institutions when it comes to Israel. Just goes to show wealthy donors get more say than the actual students and even faculty themselves. Also, technically she is homeless. She was living in campus and she got kicked out. Her coming from a rich family doesn't change the fact that she got kicked out from school housing.
