ATTN: AFC DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE (Mr LIM KIA TONG, Chairman)

RE: SEXUAL HARASSMENT COMPLAINT AGAINST PHILIPPINE MEN'S TEAM PLAYERS LEXTON MOY AND ANGEL GUIRADO (PHILIPPINES VS MALAYSIA, 29 FEB 2012, MANILA, PHILIPPINES)

Dear Mr Lim:

This to file a formal complaint against Messrs LEXTON MOY (no. 25) and ANGEL GUIRADO (no. 12) of the Philippine men's national football team, for SEXUAL HARASSMENT during the team check for the friendly match between the Philippines and Malaysia (both "A" teams) on 29 February 2012, 1900H, at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, Manila, Philippines.

During the Team Managers' Meeting on 28 February 2012 at the Discovery Suites in Pasig City, Philippines, I mentioned to the representatives of both the Philippine team and the Malaysian team that I would be serving as the Match Commissioner for their match. As stated in the AFC's regulations and Official Countdown, the Match Commissioner together with the Fourth Official check the teams before the match to verify their identification (accreditation) cards and ensure that their kits are in proper order. However, being a woman Match Commissioner doing a men's match, I had to explain that I would give the teams sufficient warning and preparation time before I would come inside their changing rooms to do the team check together with the Fourth Official, Mr Wilfredo Bermejo.

Whenever I serve as the Match Commissioner, I always follow a standard procedure for the team check regardless of the type of match. At the time of the check I initially knock loudly at the door of the changing room as a sign of courtesy and warning to the team, and then let the Fourth Official first enter the changing room to check if the players are ready before I finally enter the room. Before doing the check itself, I properly introduce myself as the Match Commissioner and also introduce the Fourth Official. I also explain the procedure of how the check will be done. I always tell the players that I will be checking their accreditation cards first then their jerseys, and that the Fourth Official will thereafter check the rest of their kits and other items, e.g., jewellery, hair accessories, fingernails etc. I also tell them the sequence of the check, i.e., I check the starting 11 players first then proceed with the substitutes.

At the appointed time (1745H) on match day, I came to the changing room of the Philippine team for the team check. I was accompanied by Fourth Official Wilfredo Bermejo and my liaison officer, Mr Joseph Gensaya. I initially knocked loudly at the door to signal my arrival. A team official opened the door and said that the team would be ready in five (5) minutes. We then waited for five minutes presuming that the team was getting ready for the team check. When we entered the changing room of the Philippine team, I properly introduced ourselves and explained the procedure for the check. In spite of the introduction the players remained rowdy and noisy, apparently not taking the team check seriously and almost ignoring our presence. As I called the players individually so that we could check their accreditation cards and kits, Philippine player LEXTON MOY (no. 25) stood by my right side and said in a loud voice "Must be a B cup," to which the players laughed loudly. As I was the only female in the room, he was apparently referring to my bra size. He could not have been talking about men's athletic cups, as their sizes are specified as extra-small, small, medium, large, and extra-large vis-a-vis cup sizes of women's brassieres, which are specified in letters. Additionally when I checked Philippine player ANGEL GUIRADO (no. 12) he stood in front of me purposely just wearing his briefs and made no attempts to wear shorts or cover his underwear. Again, the players loudly laughed while I was checking this player.

While all this was happening, none of the Philippine team officials present nor the team captain, JAMES JOSEPH YOUNGHUSBAND (no. 7), made any attempts to discipline the players and tell them to behave properly. In fact they were also laughing and seemed to be enjoying the revelry at my expense. Philippine Team Manager DAN STEPHEN PALAMI and Philippine Head Coach HANS MICHAEL WEISS were both not present in the changing room at the time of the team check.

Having been a Match Commissioner for girls', women's, boys' and men's matches since 2003 at both AFC and FIFA levels, I have not experienced this crude and totally shameful behaviour from a national team anywhere before this incident. I truly regret and feel very ashamed that this disrespect comes from the national team of my country, the Philippines. This kind of sexist and demeaning behaviour has no place in football, and should therefore be sanctioned.

Sincerely,
Cristina RAMOS
Past Member, Organising Committee for the FIFA U-20 and U-17 Women's World Cups (2004-2011)
Past Member, AFC Women's Committee (2003-2010)

Official Statement of National Team Manager Dan Palami on the Incident Report Filed by Match Commissioner Cristy Ramos
2012-03-02 23:33:52

March 2, 2012 - I would like to reassure Commissioner Cristy Ramos that the PFF and I take these allegations seriously. We will promptly investigate this incident. In fact, we already met with Commissioner Ramos today to discuss the incident report she filed. For this reason, I postponed my scheduled trip to Nepal.

It is unfortunate that we learned about this first from media sources. In my brief conversation with Commissioner Ramos after the match, we exchanged pleasantries and there was no mention of the incident that transpired. As I told her in our meeting today, I would have addressed the issue right then. Since the players have already left the country for the AFC tournament, a dialogue between them and Commissioner Ramos is not possible at the moment.

Nonetheless, we will not put off the investigation even as we prepare for a major tournament. I will sit down with my players and staff and get to the bottom of this.

In my personal experience of the usual goings-on in the men’s locker room, the tension, excitement and nervous energy before a match often result in a lot of boisterous bantering. For someone who walks into this situation, this might appear as bordering on disrespect. But again, I am speaking only from my personal experience. I was not witness to the particular incident which is the subject of the incident report. Until I hear from all sides, I cannot comment substantially on the matter.

Like Commissioner Ramos, I also believe that sexual harassment should not be tolerated in any situation. I will look into the circumstances of this alleged incident and cooperate with any investigation. If it is proven that there was in fact malicious intent, I will make sure that proper sanctions are meted out.

On behalf of the team, I sincerely apologize to Commissioner Ramos for the distress this situation has caused her.

Roxanne Cabanero Unsure of the Exact Date of Alleged Rape

Source: www.abs-cbnnews.com

“He raped me and I’m here to find justice.”

These were the words of Roxanne Cabenero as she insisted that actor-host Vhong Navarro indeed made advances on her four years ago while she was still a contestant in the Miss Bikini Philippines pageant.

Speaking to “Buzz ng Bayan” host Boy Abunda, Cabanero narrated what transpired in April 2010 when the rape allegedly happened as she claims in her sworn affidavit. She also explained the confusions regarding when and where the incident took place.

“Yung first niyang text sa akin ‘Hi, this is Vhong.’ Of course, natuwa ako nung nagtext siya sa akin. Sinabi ko sa ibang kandidata right after we left ABS-CBN,” she said.

“And then umuwi kami sa hotel and then nag-rehearsal kami. Nung time na 'yun I cannot recall which hotel. On the duration of the pageant, paiba-iba kami ng hotel. Nagche-check in kami sa different hotels. But definitely nag-check in kami sa Millenia Suites, which is in Pasig. Bumalik kami ng hotel and we kept on texting and then the time that he picked me up,” she added.

Cabanero, however, admitted that she is not sure of the exact date of the incident.

“Basta nung time na nag-check in kami sa Millenia Suites, one of those dates, he picked me up in the hotel. Nung nasa sasakyan na ako, nag-usap na kami, bigla niyang sinabi na let’s go somewhere private. Siyempre na-shock ako sa somewhere private,” she said.

Supporting his client’s claim, Atty. Virgilio Batalla said the rape happened anytime between April 24 to April 27, 2010.

Batalla said Navarro has been “misleading the public by inculcating to the mind of the public that the rape happened on the 24th where they can establish a very good alibi.”

“We know very well that Vhong is a celebrity and as a lawyer or anybody, you just click on Google to find out where is Vhong on the 24th. That is on the record. Why will we accuse him on the 24th if we know that he is there with everybody who can testify?” he said.

Meddling journalists?

Meanwhile, Batalla urged those who are not involved in the case to refrain from meddling, referring to journalist Tony Calvento, who earlier published a copy of Cabanero’s affidavit on his Facebook account.

“He should not meddle in this case. He is not the counsel of Vhong, he’s not the counsel of my client. He’s not even the prosecutor. Calvento should stop. This is not a public affair. This is private to my client and to Vhong,” Batalla said.

Saying she felt violated by what Calvento did, Cabanero said: “Gusto ko ng hustiya. Sa mga sinasabi ng tao, sa lahat ng masasakit na salita na binibitawan nila, sa ginawa ni Mr. Calvento, putting my personal complaint affidavit on Facebook is out of respect. Binastos niya ako.”

Calvento, however, maintained he is not an irresponsible journalist and he sees nothing wrong with publishing Cabanero’s affidavit online.

“Ako’y napasok sa kasong ito dahil lumapit ang isang mutual friend. We met, Atty. Mallonga, then Atty Dennis Manalo was with the team and Chito Rono. Humingi sila ng assistance. Kasama iyan sa aking trabaho. I’ve been doing that for over two decades,” he said.

“Si Atty. Batalla, ngayon ko lang narinig ang pangalan na iyan. Sino siya para sabihing tumigil ako? Kay Roxanne, I am not an irresponsible print and broadcast journalist. Saan ang binastos ko sa affidavit niya? When pinublish ko ang kanyang affidavit, which is a public document, after she had sworn, nilagay ko pa nga doon ay name withheld, I withheld her name. Kapag rape victim ang pinag-uusapan, hindi mo binabanggit ang pangalan. Hindi mo nga pinapakita ang mukha. Pero sino ba ang lumabas at nagpa-interview?” he said.

Cabanero's filed her rape complaint against Navarro amid the controversy surrounding a January 22 mauling incident which left the actor with serious injuries.

She denied having any ties with any of the eight respondents in the criminal charges filed by Navarro, including businessman Cedric Lee and model Deniece Cornejo, adding she does not want her to case to be affected by the legal battle in relation to the mauling in Taguig.

The Pasig City Prosecutor's Office is set to hold a hearing on Navarro's perjury complaint against Cabanero in the coming weeks.

Letter from a Reader: Disappointing Online Voucher Deal

Dear Fashion Pulis,

I am newbie in your throng of readers but this does not make me enjoy your articles less. Even if I am a considerably new follower, it has been already a habit of mine to check your website regularly for the juiciest blind items. In this way I have also seen how powerful your website is in informing netizens things that they should avoid. In this light, I have come to write about an annoying experience.

I have never been really a fan of those voucher sites but I sometimes check on them in case I see a deal that might be useful for me. In this particular deal site, I saw a deal that offers half the price for ink cartridge refills. I had doubts before purchasing a voucher but I eventually gave in since I am a student and printer inks are very important for me since I do nonstop paper work for school. I checked out the terms and conditions of the deal site first before purchasing to see if they have some policies on refunds because ever since this voucher trend became popular, I have been hearing and reading about false advertisements, bad deals, etc. It was clearly stated in their FAQs that refunds could be done if they find the voucher not useful to them and there would be no any problems with regards to that. That gave me a sense of security just in case I would not be able to get the said deal stated in their advertisement so I ended up purchasing one voucher.

When I ran out of ink, I planned to use the said voucher to refill my cartridges. I asked my mom who was going to the same vicinity of the refilling shop to drop by the shop to have the cartridges refilled. However, I wanted to make sure so my mom would not be embarrassed using the cartridges so I gave the shop a call first. I called to inform them that someone will have cartridges refilled using a certain voucher. To my surprise, the person who answered the call was totally clueless about it and he did not even seem to know the concept of vouchers. I even reiterated about the promo and he sounded even more confused and told me that he was not informed about something about the deal. I asked if there is another person I could talk to and he told me that he is they only one there. I got very disappointed and just asked my mom to have the cartridges refilled in another refilling shop (different from the one in the deal website).

Due to this, I immediately went back to the website and looked for the refund procedures. I immediately emailed their customer support and told them about what happened. I was asking for a voucher cancellation. I got a response 3 days after and they apologized and clarified that it is not their fault and they should not be blamed for it. I understand that there was a problem of miscommunication or non coordination with the merchant and did not think for a second that the deal company was at fault. They immediately cancelled my voucher but did not mention anything about the refund. I was even the one to ask about my refund when it should be an SOP that they would issue the refund upon cancellation of the voucher! An agent responded and assured me that a refund will be given as soon as possible.

I paid them through PayPal so I also requested a refund through PayPal. After a few days, I got a response from the deal website's PayPal account declining my refund request with an arguing message which stated: "did you actually call the numbers on the voucher? Because they are very well aware of the promo." This shocked me because this is not the way you should be responding to a client! Moreover, I stated very clearly that I already did my part as a customer yet they said they are not aware of the promo. It was so disappointing to get such argumentative message when the client is already the one on the losing end. I responded and said that my voucher has already been cancelled even if they check my account so they should issue a refund. I also emailed their customer support citing the reply I got from their PayPal account and all I got was a message saying that I was CC'd in the email sent to the person in charge of refunds. It has been more than a week and I still do not see a payment reversal in my PayPal account.

The amount in question is just 200 pesos. 200 pesos won't make me poor or rich but in principle, I believe that they should return my money since they already cancelled my voucher. I would have accepted it if they refused to cancelled my voucher but that is not the case. Not have I only been cheated on but I also felt that I was scammed since I haven't gotten the refund that I was assured of. This deal website also has poor coordination and they just communicate to each other through email. Seriously? Do they have such large corporation with different departments that they are so busy that they could only communicate with each other through emails? Moreover, they have rude personnel who would not recognize what the client has to say and would even argue. Disappointing! I would understand if I used my debit card or credit card in paying and refund would somehow take time. Refunds in PayPal are the easiest because all they have to do is to reverse the payment and it would go back to me. I already made their lives easier by requesting a refund so they would just click YES to my request but they argued to a client just for 200 pesos.

My advise to people who want to try deal websites, call the merchant first to confirm before purchasing or else this might just happen to you!

Thanks FP for taking your time in reading this.

Yours truly,
Clar Bear

Ramon Ang Slaps GMA's Gozon with Estafa Complaint

The business tycoon says the Gozons never returned his P1-billion downpayment for the purchase of a minority stake in the broadcast network, despite the breakdown of talks

Business tycoon Ramon S. Ang filed an estafa complaint against GMA Network Chairman and CEO Felipe Gozon and his family members for allegedly swindling him of P1 billion ($21.87 million) in their talks for Ang to buy shares in the TV network.

In a 19-page complaint filed with the Department of Justice on July 27, Ang accused Gozon and 9 other GMA stockholders of committing syndicated estafa. The crime is a non-bailable offense.

Ang said the Gozons never returned his P1-billion downpayment for his planned purchase of 34% of GMA7’s shares – despite an agreement stipulating a return of the money should negotiations eventually fail.

The talks between both sides collapsed in June. GMA Network announced the breakdown of negotiations through a disclosure at the Philippine Stock Exchange, catching Ang by surprise.

He dropped hints then that he was considering legal action. “I am consulting with my lawyer and I am awaiting for an explanation."

Aside from the Gozon patriarch, also charged were the family members of the Gozon group of the FLG Management Corporation, namely Felipe M. Gozon Jr., Anna Teresa Gozon-Abrogar, and Ismael Augusto S. Gozon. Other respondents to the case were stockholders of GMA Network Belinda G. Madrid, Ma. Erlinda G. Gana, Jaime Javier Gana, Florencia Gozon Tarriela, Edgar Tarriela, and Tricia T. Valderrama.

Ang spared other GMA major stockholders in the complaint, such as Menardo R. Jimenez Sr. of the Jimenez group and Gilberto R. Duavit Jr. for the Duavit group, because he said both parties indicated their intention to return the downpayment.

Ang, CEO of conglomerate San Miguel Corporation, alleged that all the elements of estafa are present in the case. “First element: Money received in trust or under obligation to return the same; second element: Misappropriation or conversion of such money by the offender; third element: Prejudice or damage and; fourth element: Demand.”

The businessman argued: “It is public knowledge that prior to the transaction with the undersigned complainant (Ang), the respondents had also sought investments from other people, most prominently Mr. Manuel V. Pangilinan of Metro Pacific Investments. After the transaction with Mr. Pangilinan did not push through, the respondents negotiated with the complainant (who is obviously a member of the general public). While the sale to the complainant likewise failed to push through, respondents succeeded in defrauding him of his P1 billion downpayment which respondents misappropriated."

Check in Gozon's name

Ang said the manager's check that he paid amounting to P1 billion ($21.87 million) was in the name of the Gozon patriarch.

The case is yet another twist in the Ang-GMA saga.

As early as June 2014, Ang announced that the planned acquisition of at least 30% stake in GMA was a done deal. The shareholders of GMA and Ang were in fact looking at signing the purchase agreement as early as November 2013.

The breakdown in talks last June 2015 was the fifth time that the broadcast giant terminated acquisition talks with a possible investor; and analysts said it could be because of a higher offer or a price no one can afford.

Some stock analysts speculated that the broadcast network might want more than what Ang had offered.

In Ang's complaint before the DOJ, he cited the so-called term sheet containing the obligation for both sides to negotiate in good faith during the "exclusivity period" covering the negotiations.

The exclusivity period was originally until April 20, 2014 and extended until June 30, 2014 and was further extended – through mutual consent – until it finally ended on November 15, 2014, according to Ang.

Following the exclusivity arrangement, Ang said he deposited P1 billion ($21.87 million) as his downpayment through a manager's check payable to Gozon, who shall hold the money in trust for the othe major stockholders, Ang said.

“It was also expressly agreed that in the event the terms and conditions of the transaction documentation are not finalized and concluded by the parties within the exclusivity period, the downpayment *shall be returned to the purchaser *not later than 3 working days from the expiration of the exclusivity period without need of any further notice or demand,” Ang said.

The Gozons never returned the money, he claimed.

Asked for comment, GMA Network vice president for corporate communications Angel Cruz replied in a text message Monday: "We have not received a copy of the complaint. Our legal counsel will respond accordingly in due time."

The DOJ is expected to form a panel to look into the merits of the case and whether it can stand in court.

Second Warning for Vice Ganda: Don’t Repeat ‘Gay Bar Show’ or Else

Being naughty – or notorious –- has its price as TV celebrity Vice Ganda is finding out.

Cebu City Hall treasury employees were sent to his Cebu concert on Sunday evening to check gate receipts to implement the full 10 percent amusement tax on ticket sales.

While the final tally is still being made, on-site observations by Cebu Daily News showed a packed ballroom at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. Not all guests held full-priced tickets. Buy-one-take-one tickets were snapped up.

A big crowd came despite the publicized take-down of the concert’s promotion billboards the other week on orders of the head of the Cebu City Anti-Indecency Board (CCAIB), City Administrator Lucelle Mercado, who said the images were “sexually suggestive.”

The concert was self-rated by organizers as R-13 or restricted to adults.

LIKE A GAY BAR SHOW

Mercado didn’t watch the show but said she received feedback from City Hall personnel present who compared it to a “gay bar show” with off-color jokes and sensuous dance moves.

“The show itself should not be like that. I asked from those who attended and they said it was very suggestive, like a performance in a gay bar. That’s not allowed. We are strict about that. We can’t have those kinds of shows,” she told CDN.

Mercado yesterday said she asked a certain city official to relay to concert organizers another warning against holding a similar concert again in Cebu City or else the city would impose a fine as violation of City Ordinance 1408 which creates the CCAIB.

Mercado said most concerts held in Cebu showcase singing, dancing and music performances. CDN observed the venue was packed with all seats occupied. Some guests had to stand near the exit doors of the Pacific Grand Ballroom of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino throughout the concert.

Upper and lower box seats were fully occupied. Fan clubs like the “Little Ponies” and “ViceRylle” brought their banners and streamers. On stage, ,there were no shirtless , muscled men lying down or surrounding the gay comedian as the billboards portrayed.

Vice Ganda did his first song-and-dance numbers in a long, blonde wig and glittering black unitard with boots, that showed the tops of his thighs.

Only two male dancers with blonde topnots and harem pants accompanied him, not the crowd of glistening macho companions shown in the poster.

He later changed to an oversized, pull-over shirt with a delicate cartoon drawing of Vice Ganda’s face on the front. He paired it with thigh-high black leather boots.

In his opening spiel, the popular Kapamilya celebrity, who has 2.1 million followers on Instagram and 5.4 million on Twitters, jokingly thanked the CCAIB for the hype it caused over the billboards, saying the concert was “sold out”.

The same message appeared in his website: “ViceGandangGandaSaSarili sa Cebu Concert is sold out. Daghang salamat Cebuanos for the love.”

Mercado, CCAIB chairperson, took it calmly.

“If they’re looking at it that way, that it helped, then that’s fine,” Mercado told CDN later.

”But it doesn’t really matter. The action was done because of our objection to the (billboard) layout that was presented,” Mercado told CDN, who stressed that one was positioned in front of a public elementary school in plain view of pupils.

She said what was important was that the city was able to take down the billboards for the “adults only” music concert.

BUY-ONE-TAKE-ONE

Cebu City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas said her staff were fielded to check on ticket sales at the gate during the concert.

She gave a different impression of the attendance of paying guests.

“Actually, most of the tickets used were complementary. Daghan kaayo. There were also buy-one-take one tickets. When I went inside, there were a lot of vacant seats,” said Cuevas who watched the concert.

She said concert organizers TSE Live Inc. paid the city an initial P20,000 but the treasurer’s office still had to check and count tickets received at the gate.

Stubs of paid tickets are torn off and collected. Stubs of complementary tickets or the free half of a buy-one-take-one tickets were separated.

Ticket prices ranged from P780 for the lower balcony to Platinum seats up front at P3,850.

The Cebu City Council earlier granted tax exemption for the concert, then later revoked it when the controversy broke out over the CAIB’s complaint that the billboard images were “sexually suggestive”.

The City Council had earlier agreed to waive the tax if concert organizers donated P10,000 each to three beneficiary organizations including the Philippine Councilors League and the Cebu City Task Force on Street Children.

CDN tried to contact TSE Live Inc.

Letter From a Reader: Restaurant Discriminates Diners Using Group Coupons

Dear Fashion Pulis,

First of all, I just want to say that I’m a big fan of your blind items and I can’t wait to read more items from you! Since I’ve read some of the letters from your readers, I too would want to share my experience to all the readers of Fashion Pulis.

I know that many of the readers know about the group coupons or the different promos sold online at a really low price. My sister and I would always check on the latest promos from different websites for my family to visit during weekends. Last Sunday, my family and I went to Galleria just so we can redeem the vouchers we bought online and eat in this dimsum place that has many other branches. We are aware that if we plan to use the vouchers, we should call their branch for reservation. We didn’t call because few weeks ago we went there as walk in and used the vouchers and it was okay for them.

When we went there last Sunday, there were only a few people eating there but still they did not entertain us. The waiter told us that we should reserve first before they entertain us. It was a weird thing to say since there were around 6 vacant tables and only few people were eating. To put an end on the argument, my sister got her landline phone and called them on the phone. She was already standing in front of the counter but no one was answering her calls. We were all annoyed that time because how can we reserve if we can't even contact their landline. After 3 attempts, she asked the waiter why we can’t contact their landline and that was the only time they checked if their landline was working or not. On the 4th attempt, finally the phone rang. The cashier answered the call and insisted that they won’t entertain us because we have no reservation. We got really irritated because we’re calling just so they won’t give us the reason that we didn’t make any reservation. To make things easier, my sister went in front of the cashier to talk to her. We were surprised because she was raising her voice and eyebrows while arguing with my mom and sister.

The cashier of this resyaurant told us that they don’t entertain walk-ins during ”store hours”. Out of frustration my sister told them “So kelan kami pupunta? Kapag sarado na kayo??” then the cashier told us that they can only entertain us from 2pm-5pm because of the reservations for that day. My sister asked how many reserved and what time. The cashier then told us that there was no reservation. My sister then argued that the cashier was a liar because of the reason she gave us. But to end the tension, we just told them that we’ll just go back around 2pm if that’s what they want.

When we went back to the restaurant at around 2pm, no one even entertained us. They were just looking at us for more than a minute. I got so annoyed so I went in front of the waiters just so they would feel conscious and entertain us, but still no one bothered to approach us and give us a place to sit. After standing in front of them for almost 2 minutes, I just went to as vacant table and called my dad and brother for us to eat. Even if we’re calling the attention of the waiters, no one was getting our order. Since the promo we purchased was just for dimsum, I just got food from their dimsum cart since I felt they have no plans of serving us. When they saw us eating their dimsum, that was the only time they approached us and asked us about our additional orders. After consuming the 8 dimsum orders, we wanted an additional order using another voucher. They told us we can’t use another voucher because we are only allowed to use 1 voucher per visit. But as stated in the terms and condition:

· One (1) voucher per person per visit
· For group use, a maximum of three (3) vouchers may be combined.

To make the long story short, this restaurant changed the terms and conditions that were already written in the voucher. They would also make customers feel unwelcome. They really have bad service. To add to that, my sister called the Glorietta branch of this restaurant last Monday to check if we can redeem the remaining vouchers we bought and they were very accommodating and accepts walk in any time of the day. She also called the Galleria branch just to check if they would accept our reservation, but they made another excuse that they do not accept customers who will use vouchers on weekdays. When my sister called the company where we bought the promo, they told her that they have received a lot of calls complaining about the bad services of restaurants similar to the one we visited.

I really hope that their branch would change the way they treat customers and stick to the terms and conditions that was given. We have no plans of going back there since we don’t want to experience the bad service they are giving their customers.

Yours Truly,
Adi

Five Female Superstars Who are Dominating Today’s Music Scene

March may have ended, but we’re not done celebrating Women’s History Month just yet! We’re putting the focus on some of our favorite superstars – multifaceted women who are making waves in and out of the music industry.

These women continue to elevate their respective genres and empower others to express themselves, all while exploring different aspects of their artistry. Read on to discover if your favorite artist made the cut, and what songs of theirs you can’t miss!

Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa is an artist that needs no introduction. This pop superstar started her career by posting song covers on YouTube, but what really propelled her into the spotlight was her hit song “New Rules.” From then on, it was just success after success for Dua, and the three-time Grammy Award winner is now currently on the US leg of her Future Nostalgia tour.

To share more about her experiences and create stronger connections with her fans, Dua also recently launched Service95. This weekly newsletter serves up a curation of recommendations, stories, and conversations that readers won’t see or read anywhere else. Not long after, she launched her podcast called Dua Lipa: At Your Service, where she and several podcast guests discuss relevant topics such as the importance of responsible storytelling and women supporting women.

Songs you can’t miss: We’re pretty sure you’ve listened to “Levitating” a handful of times (and we can’t blame you), but another fun and upbeat song to stream is Dua’s latest release – “Sweetest Pie” with Megan Thee Stallion.

Bella Poarch

Anyone who’s on TikTok is bound to know Bella Poarch. This pure Filipina rose to internet stardom after a video of her lip-syncing became viral in August 2020, getting more than 50 million likes. What eventually followed was her rise to becoming the #1 most followed Asian on TikTok worldwide! Soon, all eyes were on the 25-year-old star, and she proved not long after that her talents went beyond making TikTok videos.

In 2021, Bella released her first single called “Build a Bitch.” It became a global success, with its music video getting nearly 400 million views. This is no surprise, as the song is catchy, fresh, and calls out the unrealistic standards that women are told they must live up to. It’s clear that Bella uses her music not only to entertain, but also to go against problematic ideologies in today’s society.

Songs you can’t miss: “Build a Bitch” is a must-listen, but if you want the perfect blend of haunting and upbeat, check out her song with Sub Urban titled “Inferno.”

Saweetie

One female rap star who’s made a name for herself in recent years is Saweetie. The Grammy-nominated artist started writing rap music in her early teens, and has pursued her passion for it since then. From uploading a now-viral freestyle video on Instagram to creating countless hit songs like “ICY GRL,” “High Maintenance,” and “My Type,” Saweetie is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with.

Outside of music, she released an ICY jewelry line and collaborated with UK-based fashion retailer PrettyLittleThings for her very own collection. Hard work and independence have obviously always been in Saweetie’s blood, something that her Filipino-American family taught her at an early age. She’s proof that working for what you want pays off, and we are here for it!

Songs you can’t miss: If you’re looking for a song to hype you up and get you dancing, then “Best Friend” featuring Doja Cat is the go-to. Looking for something more sultry and sensual? Then check out Saweetie’s new breezy single called “Closer” featuring H.E.R.

GAYLE

Unfiltered, honest, and genuine – these are some words that describe chart-topping pop singer GAYLE. Much like Bella Poarch, this Gen-Z artist blew up on TikTok after sharing her hit song “abcdefu” on the platform. Since then, she’s been receiving much deserved attention and acclaim, whether it’s being part of Billboard’s 21 under 21: The Ones To Watch or being a guest performer on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

GAYLE recently released her debut EP “a study of the human experience volume one,” which touches on her insecurities, desires, and raw emotions. Her relatable and nuanced songs embrace vulnerability, while also empowering others to be unapologetic about their feelings.

Songs you can’t miss: If you loved “abcdefu,” then you’ll love the equally catchy “luv starved.”

Avril Lavigne

Rounding up this list is none other than pop-punk princess Avril Lavigne. The multi-platinum singer recently released her highly anticipated album “Love Sux,” sending fans into a frenzy. The album was well received, with a number of critics praising Avril for sticking to her nostalgic pop-punk sound while making sure it’s current and in the now.

Avril is set to go on her Bite Me 2022 Canada Tour this coming May, and will be part of several concerts and music festivals for the rest of the year. As a trailblazer in her genre and in the industry in general, she continues to inspire fellow artists to stay authentic to their true selves as they work on their craft.

Songs you can’t miss: If you want to listen to songs that are reminiscent of Avril’s past hits, then give “Bite Me” and “Love It When You Hate Me” a try.

We’ve compiled all the songs you can’t miss from these artists onto one playlist! Listen to them here.

Crazy Ways

Entrepreneur Personality (EP) has established her reputation as a shrewd businesswoman in various nooks of showbiz. EP once dabbled in the entertainment industry as a performer but chose to leave the glamor of acting. Nonetheless, her presence in the industry has left an imprint.

EP is known for her ability to maximize an opportunity presented to her. From managing talents to other business interests, EP is a force to reckon with. Thus, dealing with her means one should be careful and meticulous as well.

One time, EP allegedly ordered expensive items from Fellow Entrepreneur (FE). Given the high profile of EP, FE placed trust in their dealings. EP paid in check, which was normal. EP even gave a free event ticket, which made FE confident in doing business.

After a few weeks, the check bounced. EP subsequently returned the expensive items. FE was disappointed the deal did not push through. Thinking that the experience with EP was just one of those bumps in the business and the transaction was over, the shock came afterwards. EP demanded payment for the ticket she gave earlier!

The Morally Righteous

Every media appearance of a celebrity often depends on the people behind the scenes. While very few celebrities are innately witty and knowledgeable, a number can pretend to wing it and think that all viewers can tolerate their mistakes and not mind them at all. Even if writers have done their jobs and instructions have been given, some celebrities will lapse into their fossilized mistakes, which could be embarrassing at this age of grammar Nazis.

Thus, when Righteous Celebrity (RC) kept mispronouncing common words, some people in the audience could not help but be irritated by her speech. For example, she kept saying “Columbian,” instead of “Colombian.” While many will not mind the difference between the “u” and “o” sound, the pronunciation means a great deal in conveying meaning. In this case, the former refers to a university in New York, while the latter refers to a citizen from a country.

Incidentally, an FP follower pointed out certain errors in a recent work of RC. RC, having placed the country on the map in a contest a few years ago, is expected to be knowledgeable about the competition. Unfortunately, her work had several inconsistencies, such as the number of finalists in the competition where she participated years ago. Another alleged error is the year when a former winner ran in her home country for a national position. The year was 1998, but it was indicated as 2008. Either the work suffered from bad proofreading or RC did not check her facts.

As of now, RC has kept a low profile in the entertainment industry, and has opted to attempt to inspire the public to have a change of heart by using her experiences to convince them. However, most no longer find RC that credible as her last public pronouncements have created unwanted controversy among the different sectors of society, and perhaps, RC might want to check her facts as well.

You can't go around hoping that most people have sterling moral characters. The most you can hope for is that people will pretend that they do. –Fran Lebowitz

Repost: Philippine Airlines Responds to Karlie Kloss' Complaint

Source: www.rappler.com

After top model Karlie Kloss slammed Philippine Airlines (PAL) on social media, the airline issued a statement Wednesday, June 8, and said that Karlie missed her flight because she came late to the check-in counter at JFK International Airport.

In a statement sent to media, PAL said that check-in counters close an hour before the estimated time of departure: "Flight departure was at 12:15 am, June 7, and counters closed at 11:15 pm, June 6; Ms. Kloss arrived at 11:40 pm."

After Karlie slammed the airline on social media, saying that they had the "worst customer service of all time," PAL apologized to her on Twitter. Karlie replied, tweeting that she would send them a private message.

In the press statement, PAL said that they're now communicating with Karlie to help her refund her ticket and rebook her flight to Vancouver:

"We are happy to note that Ms Kloss has gracefully responded to PAL's initial communication. The airline has likewise sent her a formal letter stating that there was no deliberate intention to cause her any disservice. To show the heart of the Filipino, we are extending her assistance to facilitate the refund of her unused ticket or to facilitate the rebooking of her flight."

News about Karlie's experience with PAL made headlines after the model documented it on Snapchat. Karlie went straight to the airport from the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards where she was a presenter.

In one of the videos she recorded, she said, "I travel international on a weekly basis. I have never had a worse customer experience than I have tonight. Thanks Philippine Air." – Rappler.com

The Genius of Maja Salvador’s New Ad

“KERATIN PLUS?!?” If you saw the hilarious digital commercial making its rounds on the internet, I’m certain you heard Maja Salvador’s voice reading that line. Making an “ad you can hear,” Keratin Plus, a daily hair treatment product, recently launched a digital commercial with their newest endorser, celebrity actress and soon-to-be-mom, Maja Salvador.

The 15-second video opens with Maja’s gorgeous profile saying, “I feel beautiful because I treat my hair with keratin… KERATIN???” as she finger combs through her long, luscious hair. Dubbed the “Queen of Repeating Words”, the creatives behind this ad perfectly matched Maja’s natural quirk to the simple yet brilliant script.

But that’s not all there is to it. The “repeating words syndrome” is a distinctly Pinoy take on hifalutin words or sudden English speak. It’s a verbal mannerism that is widespread among Millennials and Gen Z, to soften the seriousness of a conversation, or to make fun of one’s self. It’s like an inside joke among fellow Pinoys and is translated as the “caps lock patanong culture” among younger netizens. Some go as far as gatekeeping the meme when others can’t seem to understand its context, but that’s what makes it funnier. The “dogshow humor” of the ad instantly caught its audience, trending among Facebook Community Groups and social media platforms. Some even claim it’s the official meme of 2024.

That’s easy, given the convenience of sharing online. The true success of the ad, however, is measured by how some people went out of their way to hunt for the product themselves. “The Living Meme,” as some netizens call it, has an effect on consumers, making them flock to their nearby groceries and sari sari stores to check out the Keratin Plus hair treatments and shampoos.

Check out these TikTokers proving that the ad is not just funny but highly effective, too:

Under the username @gaiapoly with over 500k followers and 22.1M likes, the female TikToker is seen walking inside a local grocery with her young nephew, Martin, who mimicked the commercial by repeating some of her words as she talks to the camera, vlogging their trip. “Kaloka ‘yung effect ni Ms. Maja Salvador sa pamangkin ko. Mapapa-Keratin Plus ka na lang talaga, bhie,” she said on her caption. They even inserted parts of the commercial on the TikTok video to show how they’re copying Maja’s lines.

Another result of the ad is how it has proven to have brand recall, as TikToker, Martin Leonard Chua who has 165k followers and over 5.5M likes, recorded his own “Keratin Plus moment” upon seeing the product while he did his personal grocery errands. “I’m seeing a live Twitter meme right now,” he shared, as he held up a bottle of Keratin Plus shampoo. “Keratin???,” he jokingly said, in the same manner Maja did in the commercial. “Ang funny ni Maja Salvador! [...] I’m so happy na nakita ko siya in person (pertaining to the product).”

As more people discover the brand through the entertaining advertisement, many share their positive reviews on these videos’ comments section.

There is power in advertising, yes—the wittier, the better. But what makes it exponentially powerful that captures loyal consumers is the truth about their claims, and this is something that users can testify about Keratin Plus, again and again.

Avoiding the Eerie Issue

If reports are to be believed, a Former Starlet FS who is now a public servant is allegedly in a very serious predicament. So serious that FS might lose all that she worked so hard for.

Talks have it that ever since FS left showbiz to venture into a different field, her financial problems started. And who would not? FS’ salary had been severely reduced to a small fraction of what she used to earn even as a starlet in showbiz. Consequently, her family’s lifestyle took a nosedive. It was then that FS took a Lucrative Sideline LS to help augment her income.

Reportedly, the LS of FS took her to different Asian cities where she met with very rich “clients.”  FS could not have been happier with her clients who were only too generous to afford her. In just a short time, she was able to enjoy again the privileged life that she and her family were used to. Her Guardian HG, notoriously known for being materialistic and controlling, reportedly even encouraged FS to continue doing LS.

Not long after, due to her very frequent travels for LS, FS allegedly contracted a Certain Disease CD - she was in disbelief! For a long while, she was in denial, but when she had herself checked at a local known hospital and was indeed confirmed she had the CD, FS’ world crumbled. She cried like there was no tomorrow.

Months after FS’ check-up, one of Her Colleagues HC also went to the same hospital for his routine check-up.  While there, HC was told by his doctor-friend that FS was tested positive for CD. HC could not believe his ears, he was so mad and cursing like hell!  Uh oh … why was he so mad?

Turned out, HC had been ‘playing’ with FS for quite a while and she didn’t tell him a thing about CD!

Don’t look now but 2014 seems not to be HC’s year. Where could he had gone wrong?

Repost: Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio Shares Condition of Her Triplets

Source: www.rappler.com

Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio lost two of her triplets, she herself announced during a Task Force Davao event in Davao City on Thursday, September 8.

"She made the announcement this morning, during the change of command of the Task Force Davao. Only one of the triplets remains," confirmed Davao City Information Officer Jefry Tupas to Rappler.

Duterte-Carpio, daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, learned about the death of the two fetuses on Monday, September 5. The living fetus, she said, is doing well and "fighting for life."

"She was told about this last Monday, after she went to the funeral homes to visit one of the bomb victims," said Tupas.

The Mayor was already "feeling a little different" at this time.

After her early morning visit to funeral homes, the Mayor attended the Davao City Hall flag ceremony. She then went to see her doctor who told her that she lost two of the triplets.

"When I went for a check up last Monday, the doctor said the identical twins don't have heartbeats anymore," Mayor Duterte-Carpio said.

The sad news comes less than a week after the deadly Davao City bombing last Friday, September 2.

Duterte-Carpio had announced she was 7 weeks pregnant with triplets on August 19.

She had then admitted the pregnancy was challenging.

"I am having a hard time with the symptoms as well as the complications of a multifetal pregnancy,” she had said.

The Mayor said she has been advised to rest and will have a check-up with her doctor on Monday.

"I'm taking it easy on the physical activities and taking precautions," she said.

Rappler is still trying to confirm if President Rodrigo Duterte has heard the news about his daughter. The President is out of the country, attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and related summits. – Rappler.com

Bianca Gonzalez to Wed JC Intal in December

TV host Bianca Gonzalez and boyfriend of almost three years, cager JC Intal are getting married in December and have a house waiting for them once they settle down.

This, the couple revealed in an exclusive interview on Buzz ng Bayan on Sunday, April 20.

When JC told host Boy Abunda that they’re getting married in December, Bianca recalled that her reaction when she first heard her fiance’s plan was, “Why not? We’re not getting any younger.”

Love nest

Once they settle down, JC ready with his love nest for Bianca and their future family.

“Sobrang blessed ako kasi nandiyan na ang bahay bago mag-asawa, yung lilipatan namin,” JC said.

JC realized he wants to be with Bianca for the rest of his life after they had a lover’s quarrel.

Bianca recalls that day when she went to JC’s house and left in a huff.

Big fight

“We had a big fight. It was my fault. I came from work. Feeling ko, hindi ako pinapansin. Nag walk out ako. When I got home nag-away pa kami sa phone.”

This was why JC’s proposal at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 on March 20 came as big surprise for Bianca.

Bianca admitted she felt weird when she went past the first security check and the two guards on duty gave her a rose each. Bianca got two more roses when she reached the first x-ray area.

The clueless Bianca, used as she is to the ways of showbiz, asked her companion if she was in a gag show.

“Baby I Love Your Way”

An airport staff interrupted her thoughts and said, “Ma’m, you have to go out and verify a package if it’s part of your baggage.”

When she returned to the check-in counter, Bianca recalls how a girl gave her a tarpaulin while live performers sang her favorite love song, “Baby I Love Your Way.”

Two weeks before, JC asked Bianca what her favorite love song is, so when she heard "Baby I Love Your Way" at the airport, she sensed something was about to happen. True enough, when she rolled up the tarpaulin, she read, “Bianca, please say yes,” and JC was already kneeling before her.

When she turned around, all her friends were there with one flower each for her. Bianca couldn’t help but cry.

Out of character

“I was telling him (JC) sobrang out of character (ang nangyari). Sobrang quiet siyang tao. For him to come up with that and to arrange all that, it’s so overwhelming.”

Bianca feels extra lucky and grateful she is marrying a man who “treats me well.” She adds that there’s no formula in finding a guy who’s right for you.

“Never in my wildest dreams na inakala ko magiging deserving ako (nito),” she gushed.

JC, for his part, professed his love for Bianca, this time on nationwide TV.

“I love you. No promises. Of course may mga times na nandiyan ang away-bati tayo pero I think kakayanin natin.”

Wicked Relatives

When the 15 year old nephew of this actress was in town from the USA for a visit, she was busy shooting for her television series so she entrusted the boy with her mother. One day, the actress instructed her mother to bring him to the dentist for a procedure. The antibiotics that the dentist gave him after the procedure caused a major allergic reaction. His grandmother had to bring him immediately to the hospital when this happened.

He was confined in the hospital for a few days while the doctors were still waiting for the results of his blood test. During this time, neither his aunt nor his grandmother was there with him. It was only the actress' secretary who was communicating with the medical staff to check on the boy's status from time to time. So when the boy's father eventually rang his mother (boy's grandmother) from the USA to check on his son, she avoided him because she did not know what to tell him.

The day when the grandmother visited the boy, the first thing she did was to reprimand him for what happened. She told him that the actress' husband (the boy's uncle) will be furious if he finds out about the expensive medical bill. It is so ironic that she tells her friends that her daughter is the "princess of the south" and yet she worries about how her son-in-law will react to the medical bill.

The actress immediately scheduled her nephew's flight back to the USA a few days after he was discharged from the hospital. On the day of his departure, the actress just instructed her driver to bring the boy to the airport. When the boy got off the car, the driver told him that his aunt and his grandmother do not want to ever see him back in the Philippines.

Letter from a Reader: For the Love of My Boyfriend

Dear Fashion PULIS,

I am Chal. I went to DLSU but you were never my professor. Anyway, I would like to share a story with you and your readers. I was doing some research on this designer and I came across your blog. I wouldn't really have shared this story about him if he changed his ways. However, things are really getting worse.

This designer did my wedding gown a few years back and I still love it up to this day. That was how I knew him. So when the Taiwanese friend of my mom, Toni, was looking for a Filipino designer to do his line of gowns in Japan & Europe called Vita Bella, I thought of him. When I contacted him, he immediately responded so I set him an appointment with my mom and Toni.

Toni would ask our travel agency to arrange this designer's trip to China. Apart from his ticket, he would make Toni pay for his boyfriend's ticket and tell Toni that he is the assistant. In China, his boyfriend would just lie around and make Toni pay for meals. The scenario became worse when the designer asked for a credit line from our travel agency for the extra tickets he was purchasing. I declined nicely because I have already read about him in your blog. One time, he even gave us a check for his boyfriend's ticket only to have someone inform us the following day that the check belonged to him and he was the real assistant. This means that he was using the assistant's money to pay for the boyfriend's ticket.

Things became worse a few weeks ago when a fashion show was held in Manila Peninsula. Coincidentally, Toni was invited to watch the fashion show and he requested our agency to book a room for him. The designer was also part of the show and he might have received a complimentary room from either the hotel or the organizers. My contact from the Manila Peninsula informed me that the designer's assistant approached the reservation staff and advised them that they will be extending an extra night courtesy of Toni. Toni was very upset upon checking out because he discovered what the designer did without asking his permission. The poor Taiwanese guy spoke little English but he had a good understanding as to what was happening. It is very sad because Toni believed in the Filipino talent he has already invested close to a million on this designer. My mom also told me that the designer never returned the gowns he borrowed from Toni that were used in the fashion show. The Manila Peninsula found a few gowns left in the designer's room when he checked out.

I'm writing you this letter to warn your readers. I really believe in the designer's talent and I feel so sad that he is ruining his career all for the love of his boyfriend. I hope that one day he apologizes to me, to my mom and most specially, to Toni.

Yours truly,
Chal

Just to Check Him Out

A group of friends GF went to an upscale club at the Fort. The popular club is often the melting pot of celebrities where they unwind and meet up with friends and fellow celebrities.

When GF went inside the bar, one of their companions, a girl AG immediately noticed the presence of her crush, a popular hot actor HA who was with his friends having drinks. Feeling very excited, she told one of her male friends MF about her sighting of HA. Since GF's table was assigned next to where HA and his friends were, AG would occasionally glance at HA laughing and having fun with his friends.

When AG saw that HA stood up from the table to go to the men’s room. AG requested MF to accompany her to that part of the club so that she can see HA in a brighter setting. When she lost sight of HA, she convinced MF to go in the men's room to check if he was inside while she waited patiently outside.

Meanwhile, in the men's room, the very eager MF could not find HA. He tried to look around but HA was nowhere to be found. Suddenly, he heard noise coming from one of the cubicles. MF got curious and tried to confirm his suspicion. Then voila, he could not believe that he saw - 2 pairs of legs inside! You guessed it right - HA was there with someone else.

MF immediately went outside to the waiting AG to tell her what he found out. While talking outside, they saw HA come out of the men's room followed by another hot looking guy. What was HA and the hot looking guy doing inside the cubicle? Your guess is as good as mine!

Needless to say, AG was so heartbroken…inconsolable. Never did she imagine that her huge excitement over HA an hour earlier quickly turned to something so horrible.
