Providing Assistance

The more than two months of quarantine have caught many people unprepared for the financial effects the lack of work brought. Unlike her colleagues, Young Talent (YT) is not on guaranteed contract terms. Hence, she has to rely on her daily work and endorsements to sustain her family’s lifestyle. With no work for the past weeks, YT had to think of ways to cope with the situation.

The problem is that YT and her family are not keen on the relief packages sent by the barangay. Canned sardines are not high on their list as staples and they prefer to do their grocery or order food. Such preferences can hurt the pocket and YT started to feel the effects early into the quarantine.

Prior to the lockdown, YT had an easy time getting what she wanted from her admirers. However, YT could not ask from those personalities, as they have also been hit by the work stoppage. YT had an idea, but that required swallowing her pride – she had a Former Boyfriend (FB) who could financially rescue her. YT was hesitant at first, but seeing that her family could not longer eat the glorious food they had been accustomed to made YT execute her plan. An ailing parent, whom she is supporting, added to YT’s motivation to contact FB.

Unfortunately, the texts of YT were ignored by FB. YT had to move to plan B and this time, she had to muster more than guts to push those buttons. She needed help and the next best person to ask was FB’s Dad (FD). When YT and FB were together, she became close to the family and his parents got to know her well. YT sent the text to FD seeking help. When YT saw the reply, she could not believe what she had read.

FD’s Wife (FW) had FD’s mobile when the text came in. As the text was not malicious and was sincere in asking help, FW answered diplomatically. FW told YT that she would send her money but on a certain term. YT agreed.

FW eventually sent money to cover the expenses of YT and her family for a few months. However, FW was stern in telling YT not to bother FB and FD. If YT violates FW’s condition, the young personality should brace herself for the response of the older woman.

Nonchalant Living

The lockdown and work stoppage of productions have greatly affected the financial situation of Experienced Performer (EP). Known for her generosity and sometimes haphazard giving away of her earnings, EP found herself needing assistance. Although some of her friends have covered her expenses, their assistance has limitations, as they have to take care of their families.

When the question of her family’s presence is asked, EP usually says that her relatives and kids are her last option. Allegedly, EP knows that she has a higher chance of getting help successfully from friends than her family and thus, she would approach them only as a last resort. Nonetheless, EP sought help from Child One (CO), who gave her a respectable amount of groceries. CO said that she does not have cash and EP can try Child Two (CT). EP and CT have not been seeing eye-to-eye lately, but still, EP approached CT. Similarly, CT gave EP groceries and said she does not have cash as well. CT said EP can try Other Child (OC). Among the three, OC would be in the worst situation, as he hardly has projects. Thus, OC referred EP to CO. Like a ball being bounced, EP could only sigh.

According to a friend of EP, CO and CT know that giving cash to EP might not be a good idea. They found out that EP has a Special Female friend (SF) again. EP’s SF is almost the same age as CO and is not exactly a good influence to EP. Allegedly, SF is an enabler of vices, such as the casino, which has great effects on the lives of many celebrities. Others have overcome their casino addiction, while others could not get away from the lure of the table and the slot machines. Moreover, EP found a drinking partner in SF and the aftermath of drinking had affected her work with her network.

While advice has not been amiss, family and friends have realized that EP is too hard-headed to change her ways. CO and CT have accepted that EP has no desire to change her ways even if she has gone back and forth to rehab, and seems to be repeating experiences. At this point, they can only tolerate and help out in the ways that they could.
