Lost in Story

The break given to Upcoming Talent (UT) was considered as a significant breakthrough in his career. Seemingly portrayed as someone who was reluctant to enter the entertainment industry, the subsequent actions of UT proved otherwise.

After being given the break and the corresponding on-air coverage, UT slowly gained his following and to make sure he holds their attention, he utilized social media to make videos that showed his other talents. These videos attracted a wide audience and coupled with traditional media exposure, UT was the next breakout star.

Emerging celebrities who have caught the eye of the public often arouse interest among production houses, who would then race against each other to be the first to feature such stories. In the case of UT, a network took the opportunity to make an episode featuring his life. However, the image projected by UT has been questioned by people who knew him before he was given the opportunity to become famous.

Allegedly, UT did not really live in a poor area as claimed in his story. Rumors have it that UT ran away from home during that time and stayed with a family who treated him nicely. However, this part was not at all included in his story. Then to make matters worse, the family did not have a pleasant experience with UT, whom they claimed to have stolen a valued possession, and gave it to some person hanging around the streets of where they live.

Change in status can result in bringing out either the positive or negative attitude of a person. For UT, the negative side came out during moments when the cameras are off. While he is only on his way to making a solid name for himself, incidents reflecting his negative attitude might abruptly stop his movement. Moreover, given that he is considered new, his handlers might not give him priority when it comes to damage control. After all, although his selling point might seem unique at first, such talent can wane as months pass.

‘We have this sort of false self we portray over the internet. It’s a facade of highlights we believe our peers will deem noteworthy.’― Chris Matakas

Repost: Nadine Lustre Reacts to Possible Kissing Scene of James Reid and Sarah Geronimo in 'Miss Granny'

Nadine Lustre would not mind if her boyfriend, James Reid, would have a kissing scene with Sarah Geronimo in the upcoming movie “Miss Granny.”

Lustre’s statement was a reaction to the tease of director Joyce Bernal that Geronimo might have an onscreen smooch in the Filipino film adaptation of the Korean movie.

“Miss Granny” is Reid’s first project without Lustre.

“Bakit ako ['yung magre-react]? (laughs). Okay na ‘yun. If it’s for work, okay lang naman. And si Ate Sarah naman so walang ibig sabihin so I’m okay with that,” she told ABS-CBN News' Jeff Fernando.

Although she is not part of the project, Lustre said she is very happy for her boyfriend and they want nothing but the best for each other’s career.

“Ako po very excited ako sa mga projects niya and siya din excited para sa akin. We grow together pero at the same time, nag-grow din kami kahit hindi kami magkasama,” she said.

In the original South Korean movie, a woman in her 70s finds herself in the body of her 20-year-old self (played by Shim Eun-Kyun).

Reid and Geronimo have already started filming for the movie.

Repost: Oprah Winfrey's Rousing Golden Globes Speech

Video courtesy of YouTube: Pop & Sports HQ

Oprah Winfrey accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement at the Golden Globes on Sunday and delivered a moving speech that brought men and women in the audience to their feet.

Below is a full transcript of Winfrey's acceptance speech.

In 1964, I was a little girl sitting on the linoleum floor of my mother's house in Milwaukee watching Anne Bancroft present the Oscar for best actor at the 36th Academy Awards. She opened the envelope and said five words that literally made history: "The winner is Sidney Poitier." Up to the stage came the most elegant man I had ever seen. I remember his tie was white, and of course his skin was black, and I had never seen a black man being celebrated like that. I tried many, many times to explain what a moment like that means to a little girl, a kid watching from the cheap seats as my mom came through the door bone tired from cleaning other people's houses. But all I can do is quote and say that the explanation in Sidney's performance in "Lilies of the Field":

"Amen, amen, amen, amen."

In 1982, Sidney received the Cecil B. DeMille award right here at the Golden Globes and it is not lost on me that at this moment, there are some little girls watching as I become the first black woman to be given this same award. It is an honor -- it is an honor and it is a privilege to share the evening with all of them and also with the incredible men and women who have inspired me, who challenged me, who sustained me and made my journey to this stage possible. Dennis Swanson who took a chance on me for "A.M. Chicago." Quincy Jones who saw me on that show and said to Steven Spielberg, "Yes, she is Sophia in 'The Color Purple.'" Gayle who has been the definition of what a friend is, and Stedman who has been my rock -- just a few to name.

I want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association because we all know the press is under siege these days. We also know it's the insatiable dedication to uncovering the absolute truth that keeps us from turning a blind eye to corruption and to injustice. To -- to tyrants and victims, and secrets and lies. I want to say that I value the press more than ever before as we try to navigate these complicated times, which brings me to this: what I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have. And I'm especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their personal stories. Each of us in this room are celebrated because of the stories that we tell, and this year we became the story.

But it's not just a story affecting the entertainment industry. It's one that transcends any culture, geography, race, religion, politics, or workplace. So I want tonight to express gratitude to all the women who have endured years of abuse and assault because they, like my mother, had children to feed and bills to pay and dreams to pursue. They're the women whose names we'll never know. They are domestic workers and farm workers. They are working in factories and they work in restaurants and they're in academia, engineering, medicine, and science. They're part of the world of tech and politics and business. They're our athletes in the Olympics and they're our soldiers in the military.

And there's someone else, Recy Taylor, a name I know and I think you should know, too. In 1944, Recy Taylor was a young wife and mother walking home from a church service she'd attended in Abbeville, Alabama, when she was abducted by six armed white men, raped, and left blindfolded by the side of the road coming home from church. They threatened to kill her if she ever told anyone, but her story was reported to the NAACP where a young worker by the name of Rosa Parks became the lead investigator on her case and together they sought justice. But justice wasn't an option in the era of Jim Crow. The men who tried to destroy her were never persecuted. Recy Taylor died ten days ago, just shy of her 98th birthday. She lived as we all have lived, too many years in a culture broken by brutally powerful men. For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dare speak the truth to the power of those men. But their time is up. Their time is up.

Their time is up. And I just hope -- I just hope that Recy Taylor died knowing that her truth, like the truth of so many other women who were tormented in those years, and even now tormented, goes marching on. It was somewhere in Rosa Parks' heart almost 11 years later, when she made the decision to stay seated on that bus in Montgomery, and it's here with every woman who chooses to say, "Me too." And every man -- every man who chooses to listen.

In my career, what I've always tried my best to do, whether on television or through film, is to say something about how men and women really behave. To say how we experience shame, how we love and how we rage, how we fail, how we retreat, persevere and how we overcome. I've interviewed and portrayed people who've withstood some of the ugliest things life can throw at you, but the one quality all of them seem to share is an ability to maintain hope for a brighter morning, even during our darkest nights. So I want all the girls watching here, now, to know that a new day is on the horizon! And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say "Me too" again.

An Unexpected Breakup

After speculations and rumors of their relationship, the grapevine is abuzz that Low Key actress (LK) and Influential Businessman (IB) have called it quits. Finally, the rumors linking the two can die down and their respective families can heave a sigh of relief.

While LK and IP were linked to each other, confusion set in, as LK had not made any confirmation that she had left Her Partner (HP). As far as the public was concerned, LK and HP were still an item, and thus, LK with IB seemed unthinkable. However, sightings of LK and IB together in various places locally and overseas have fueled rumors that something was up. Both were seen cozying up a bit in certain public events, which made observers look for HP, who was not around obviously.

Another thing that made the alleged relationship of LK and IB unbelievable is that he and HP are in the same circle and would definitely run into each other frequently. Thus, the tension would be high, but no rumors have surfaced about any incident that pertained to IB and HP confronting each other over LK. Then, there is the matter of IB being close to the family of LK. Other than LK, IB has been linked to other members of the family at various instances. The excuse was that he was simply being a family friend and helping out. Thus, such rumors often died down. Besides, IB has always tried to maintain his life as a private citizen, but his circle of friends is too controversial to the point that his name gets dragged in issues that are forcibly connected to his reputation. Similarly, LK has tried to get away from the limelight, but issues seem to follow her. Once in a while, she would be interviewed by reporters for clarification. Her fans also manage to keep up with the stories she shares in her social media account, which does not really have traces of her alleged relationship with IB.

Now, the speculation focuses on the reasons why the two have parted ways. One reason is that HP could have finally put his foot down, and everyone knows that LK would not leave him given the sacrifices and hardship she had to undergo to be with him. Another could be the realization that IB is getting visible again and it would only be a matter of time that someone unearths his relationship with LK. Finally, both could have seen that their tryst would not really lead to anywhere, but more controversy, which is not the way to go as one wants to age gracefully.

‘Relationships are eternal. The 'separation' is another chapter in the relationship. Often, letting go of the old form of the relationship becomes a lesson in pure love much deeper than any would have learned had the couple stayed together.’ - Marianne Williamson

Repost: Sharon Cuneta Admits Going Through Rough Times with Kiko Pangilinan in 2017

Video courtesy of YouTube: sinepelikula

Sharon Cuneta, who celebrated her birthday on “ASAP,” thanked many people for making her past year extra special.

However, it was her message for her husband, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, that stood out.

According to Cuneta, she and Pangilinan went through a lot as a couple last year but she is glad that they have prevailed over all their ordeals.

“Kiko, thank you. We’ve been through so much, so very much. We almost lost each other last year. I praise God that the family is together and the children are happy,” she said candidly.

She then went on to thank each of her children for being her life and joy.

Pangilinan, on the other hand, took to social media to share a sweet message for his wife.

The senator said Cuneta’s birthday this year is extra special because “it comes at a time when after a period of setbacks, heartaches, pain, after a truly challenging period you have not just survived but have triumphed.”

Pangilinan also prayed for Cuneta’s good health, safety, protection, success and happiness. He then vowed to always be there for his wife cheering her on.

“Finding ways, day in and day out, to look out for you, to care for you, to make things right with and for you and to love you, dearly, truly, wholeheartedly now, always, forever,” he said.

Cuneta and Pangilinan have been married for 21 years.
