SM Supermalls - The Mall of Choice

From Shoemart to SM Supermalls: In 1958, a young man started to build his empire from scratch with a humble shoe store in downtown Manila. Decades later, the shoe store has aggressively expanded to become a full-line department store. From Shoemart, the name SM is now synonymous to SM Supermalls, diversifying into the supermarket and home appliance store business. With everything housed in one roof, the company slogan "We've Got It All For You" cannot be more fitting.

Superb Entertainment Venue: The SM Supermalls, strategically located in cities in the country, are not only shopping destinations, but are entertainment and leisure havens for Filipinos and tourists alike. Each SM Supermall entertainment/activity center has become a regular venue for celebrity mall tours to showcase their performances, promotions for their shows, movies, album launchings, concerts, among others. Letter from a Reader: Benefit Brow Bar Burns Customer's Upper Lip During Waxing Procedure

Dear Fashion Pulis,

I am a nobody, but I would like to share with your readers my experience with Benefit Brow Bar.

I always had my unwanted hair removed at Benefit Brow Bar, Trinoma branch. Last Friday, January 2, I was there to have my upper lip hair waxed. I was so shocked that my lips got burned! The pictures above was how I looked yesterday morning.

I went back to Benefit Brow Bar, Trinoma to talk to the manager but unfortunately, I was told it was her day off. I got her number and called her to discuss the incident, but she wasn't picking up the phone. I know it was her day off, but I believe that there are exceptions, especially in a service industry when a manager's attention is crucial in special emergencies like in my case. I was so disgusted. I sent them an email and as I write this, still got no response.

I trusted Benefit Brow Bar and had been their loyal and paying customer for a long time. I held on that they would stay true to their promise: " Every Benefit Brow Bar is staffed with licensed professionals, highly trained in the art of brow shaping, so they’re always ready to wax and tweeze, primp and please. " But how can I be pleased when they burned me? And worse, they did not attend to me at all?

I pay Php500 for the waxing everytime, it is pricey compared to others, but I didn't mind because I wanted to be assured of safety. But I guess they don't really train their staff well. Now I got a ruined face and ruined weekend plans. Thanks to you, Brow Bar.

By the way, I just received a text from the staff who did the waxing. At least she was concerned and was decent enough to say sorry. I still have not heard any word from the manager.

Was It Just a Joke?

It is no brainer that every serious singer/artist aspires to hold her own concert at a major venue in the country, for it is the benchmark of their career as artists – something that says that one has truly arrived.

Singer Actress SA has been in the entertainment business for years. She is talented, but unfortunately in local showbiz, talent alone won’t suffice. Often, it is an artist’s charm or appeal that draws admirers/fans first, then talent later. Fact is, not having the drawing power is always a no-win scenario.

Sadly, SA belongs to such category. She maybe talented , but critics say she lacks that oomph. Her packaging seems to be off. Anyway, SA’s passion for her craft is unquestionable, as she continues to better herself amidst a barrage of bashers that hound her, questioning even her existence in showbiz. But to be fair, some of SA’s works had been recognized and even received numerous awards. A feat that probably strengthened SA’s resolve to hold a major concert at a huge venue. A move that drew flak from watchers and bashers alike.

Heard that the concert was a huge flop. Just so ticket sales would move, it reportedly went at “buy one, take one,” apart from the enormous complimentary tickets that were allegedly given away. Two (2) hours before the concert, patron seats were empty. At that point backstage, SA knew nothing about the problem as producers didn’t want to stress her.

But the empty seats prompted them to do what they deemed best amid crisis. As they say, desperate times call for desperate measures - production staff reportedly gave away tickets to mall goers, most of whom were in disbelief and looking at tickets, even asked: “Who is SA? ”

The chaos soon reached SA and she was in panic after seeing the almost deserted seats. Not long after, audience in the general admission seats were asked to go down to sit at the patron section to fill it. The lights at the general admission area were dimmed. Guest performers at the concerts were disheartened, notably, Talented Artist TA who was overheard to have asked: “ Where are SA’s fans, where are the buyers of her sold-out albums?“

On the other hand, critics remarked that SA shouldn’t have rushed things. For them, she should have tested the waters first, claiming that although she had been a musical awardee, her songs are hardly felt at all. Ergo, SS isn’t yet ripe for a major venue.

As they say - goods that are not bought in malls either go on sale or get rotten.

Cash or Credit?

Veteran Actress VA’s friendship with a much younger and Popular Actress PA dates way back when both did a television series that ran for months. The bond and camaraderie that were formed between them further cemented their friendship and made it stronger. They were so close that at one point, PA even planned a birthday party for VA. Even after the series ended, VA and PA remained and continued their bond.

As PA was about to reach her Life’s Milestone LM, she got VA to be a part of it in a very special way. Touched by PA’s kind gestures, VA wanted to pay back and organized an Exclusive Event EE for her. VA wanted it to be really special gathering for PA and her friends. VA hired A Caterer AC and made a small down payment. AC agreed, confident it wouldn’t have problem collecting since she was VA, supposedly a ‘respected’ actress. On EE day, food was abundant and drinks overflowing – everyone happy, including the star, PA.

After the party, as AC was trying to collect the big balance, VA allegedly told them that she had no cash, thus promised AC that she would pay the full amount after two (2) days. For the second time, AC agreed. Two days after, AC called VA. Lo and behold – VA couldn’t be reached anymore! What a pity for AC. Heard that to this day, VA has not yet paid or even contacted AC for payment of the substantial balance.

Just a word for VA – a fabulous fashion sense is more attractive if coupled with a good credit standing.
