Crafting the Angle of Her Career
One of the prized performers of this network (TN) brings more than her talent to the station. Fearless and beautiful (FB), she is a top endorser of commodities that run across social classes. With a few words in her social media accounts, FB can reach out to millions in a snap. With her confidence, FB can generate so much interest in her appearances as well as the box office. Hence, TN knows that the image of FB has to be protected.
Despite the blessings and the highly regarded image, FB had unguarded moments that showed her ugly horns. Witnesses leaked a story of how FB acted out in rage. Sometime ago, while allegedly under the influence of liquor, she slapped co-workers (CW), who played a prank on her. Lucky for her, CW did not say anything. Even before the story was full blown, FB issued an apology. However, her image was tarnished.
After the incident, damage control had to be done, and that included saving the image of FB. The bestowing of TN of an iconic role to her was looked upon as a way to save her image. At the onset, the series was met with criticisms of the production design. The stellar cast could not generate more interest than the failed computer effects.
Just as the series was picking up, FB found herself in an ugly incident involving the significant other (SO) of a close relative. Instead of acknowledging each other, FB lambasted SO with a mouthful about SO’s not being classy enough to attend such party. Karma was fast, and a few days later, FB got into an accident that damaged her skin. Although FB got sympathy for her mishap, this did not translate into ratings. The series ended with not much fanfare.
The question is whether TN was successful in cleaning up the act of FB with the teleserye. TN did not milk the series enough to maximize the projection of FB. FB embodies the image of the station as well as of her endorsements that comprise quite a chunk in terms of her income. Therefore, a negative image of FB will not be healthy for TN.

Counteracting the Competition
Over the past months, television viewers were treated to crossovers of stars from different networks. Network talents were allowed to appear in the shows of rival stations to promote their movies. While these moments were welcome treats to viewers, a set of talents (ST) was no longer allowed by the rival network (RN) to appear in any of their shows to plug a movie that featured its respective stars, too.
RN decided not to give any exposure to ST, because the teleserye of one of the stars (OS) in the movie is doing well and has already affected the rating of the coinciding show (CS) in RN. While OS has already appeared in RN sometime ago, this time, she will not be able to even if she has a lead role in the movie. The promotion of the movie in RN will then be on the shoulders of the talents of RN.
Incidentally, RN reacted to the strong showing of the drama of OS and her Hunk Partner (HP) by introducing interesting changes in CS. First, a major actress was given a dramatic farewell scene of her character. Second, a multi-talented pretty actress, who was not seen for a time, was included in the cast. Third, CS has shown that the passage of time has already affected the developments of the characters. Meanwhile, the series of OS and HP are just cruising along the ratings with their rapport.
While the movie producer perhaps had good intentions in combining talents from various networks, the competition among the stations might lessen the box office chances of the movie. As for the stations, no love is lost.
The healthiest competition occurs when average people win by putting above average effort. - Colin Powell
