Raising the Bar

Controversy seems to be the middle name of Celebrity Host - CH. Then and now, she and the rest of her relatives are like magnets for most of the major issues in showbiz. Her youth and heyday were peppered with all sorts of controversies one after the other – CH seeming to thrive on it and becoming a veteran in the process. Back then, her every move was a fodder for gossip.
CH loved the high life so much that during those happier and wealthier days, she knew how to have big pleasures. Living life fabulously whether here or abroad in the company of friends was her passion.
Turning point came when she hit rock bottom. Not used to the life of a spartan, she was forced to do things to maintain her lifestyle - and gradually had to do it to survive – if only for the mouths who depended on her. As in a cliché – she had to swallow the bitter pill. One of them was hanging out with people old enough to be her father.
That time, she was a regular fixture in the gambling life of a rich and equally Controversial Politician – CP. CP always wanted CH to sit beside him while he was on the gaming (mahjong) table. It was common knowledge how scandalous and barbaric CP was, and still is, especially in treating women.
In between sips of wine, CP’s hand was busy with the gaming tiles while his other hand was also busy mashing CH’s privates - in full view of everyone present. Although really embarrassed in the beginning owing to her status in the industry, CH endured it or had gotten used to it. After all, the pay off was something she badly needed. As the saying goes – beggars can’t be choosers.
Now that the aging CP is not that gaming-busy anymore, the veteran CH doesn’t want to have anything to with him anymore. Wiser and bolder, CH has now returned to her previous love - a more lucrative profession where she won’t be as publicly exposed and embarrassed. Indeed, she gets to travel and paid handsomely, too. The oldest profession seems to really work for her.

Congresswoman Lani Mercado-Revilla's Controversial Statement on the Pork Barrel
Two-termer Cavite 2nd District Congresswoman and actress, Lani Mercado-Revilla is being attacked for her bold and heartless statements when asked of her reactions about scrapping the controversial pork barrel of Senators and Congressmen.
"Basta huwag lang manghihingi sa amin ang mga tao!"
“Hindi naman puwede yung sa pinaghihirapan namin dahil sa personal naman namin yun, sa mga anak, sa mga pang-araw-araw na panggastos namin."
Needless to say, those words that speak volumes were directed at her constituents and supporters who voted for her.
The Napoles controversy has been a daily series of exposes that have both drowned and drawn violent reactions from the angry public amid accusations at politicians and other public figures being linked to the biggest scandal to ever hit the country this year.
Where is Congresswoman Lani Revilla's strong statement coming from?
Reportedly, the scandal linking her family has taken its toll on its members who are mostly in current government positions: Husband Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla, Jr, son Cavite Vice Governor Jolo Revilla and herself. Another son, Bryan Revilla is also linked as business partner of Napoles son.

Just a Stately Decision of the Queen
After her hiatus, the network gave her a high profile project. The project had all the media promos to stir interest, and the audience had high expectations for the drama comeback of EA. The series had a solid cast, and EA exercised her personal choices in choosing whom she wanted to be part of the production. The viewers were not disappointed as the project lived up to expectations.
However, within a few weeks, the series had changed timeslots to accommodate another series of a younger network talent. The series of EA was going to be pitted with the breakthrough series of the rival network, which was enjoying high ratings and viewer interest because it had no close competition at that time. Now, changing the timeslot of a series could spell its doom. True enough, despite its high ratings, EA’s series was not able to dislodge the series of the rival.
Then, barely into a season, stories made the rounds that the series of EA was about to end. The public was stunned as this soap was the comeback of EA, and her series was doing well anyway. So, why end something that the network kept publicizing was doing quite well?
Apparently, EA did not like the idea of having her timeslot changed. EA allegedly was no longer keen on taping, and without the lead star, it was best to end the series after a season. With her decision, EA indeed proved that she is a queen.
The latest widely publicized development is that her network has already offered her to host a reality show for children. In fact, the press already thinks that this offer is already a solid sign that EA will remain with her network. However, EA allegedly turned down this offer, and the teaser was made without a contract or her knowledge. As the network is in a quandary as to how to keep EA, she opted to take a break for a few weeks. EA will then announce her decision whether to stay or to move after her brief vacation.
Is the hosting project worthy of the status of EA, and will this project be enough to sustain her presence in primetime? History has shown that EA always stuck it out with her current network, but will the public be in for a shocking change? A sitcom with her significant other is allegedly being offered by the other network. If EA moves to this network, then their “queen” should be ready to share her throne, or perhaps, give way to the real queen.
And queenly is the state she keeps, In beauty’s lofty trust secure. – William Allen Butler
