'AlDub' Guests on CNN Philippines’s Real Talk
The phenomenal love team of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, famously known as “AlDub”, graces the set of Real Talk, a daily talk show in CNN Philippines hosted by Christine Jacob- Sandejas and Rachel Alejandro.
Now on its third season, Real Talk promises more fun and engaging conversations with Christine, Rachel, and their guests.
In the episode, Alden and Maine share juicy details about their recently launched movie “Imagine You & Me,” their experience while filming in Italy, what they’ve learned about each other and how much their lives have changed one year after they met.
Catch the duo who topped Yes! Magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful Stars of 2016 on Real Talk, airing on July 20, Wednesday at 9:30AM on CNN Philippines.

Imagine You & Me, the film made specially for Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza is the story of Andrew and Gara who are searching for true love. They find each other in Como, Italy, but have to hurdle a challenging battle before they get to reach the cherry on top, so to speak.
Gara (Maine) often daydreams about a special man in her life. Being an ‘nbsb’ or no boyfriend since birth explains why she is in great despair to find that one true love that she can call her own.
She went to Italy to help her family back home, along the way, she meets Andrew (Alden). Gara and Andrew find each other at the most opportune time when they are both brokenhearted, but the circumstance of their meeting is anything but romantic.
The very difficult Andrew becomes a crucial test for Gara, especially when she weaves her way around his private affairs that infuriates him all the more.
The film boasts of its beautiful aerial shots of Como, a tranquil paradise in Italy, with breathtaking landscapes and great architectural sights. Perhaps nothing can be a more perfect venue for Aldub’s first solo romantic film.
‘ Imagine You and Me' comes off as a regular romance-comedy movie, but the story entertains, is wholesome and doesn’t exaggerate. Maine’s character as Gara fits her to a T, as she is clearly comfortable with comedy. However, she has yet to be at ease with dramatic scenes so it will be easier to watch. Nonetheless, she is effortlessly natural as an actress.
Alden, on the other hand could have been given more scenes to shine given Andrew’s own painful woes. He has more to offer since he is a talented actor. But it was good that he kind of made up for it especially towards the latter part, and what a sweet surprise!
There’s no denying of Alden and Maine’s graceful chemistry such that their scenes together are delightfully easy on the eyes. The movie is light romance, well put together, but the circumstances surrounding some of the characters seem entangled as to make them look authentic.
Kakai Bautista and Cai Cortez as Gara’s friends never fail to bring the house down in all their appearances, always on point. The troika’s bond is typical of friendship of most Filipinos working abroad.
The movie’s powerful and romantic cinematography helped a lot for intensity, especially in dramatic scenes. Director Mike Tuviera deserves a thumbs up for coming up with a wholesome, feel-good movie that cater to Aldub fans of all ages who come in droves to see it.
The film is making good at the tills, the momentum should be sustained. Perhaps, a follow up in order?

With the spate of crimes in the Philippines where every neighborhood fears about unsafe streets, drug addicts, kidnappings and burglaries, director Paul Soriano takes a cue and conveys what goes on in the hearts of both the criminal and his victim. He steps in to thematic territory that is not often covered with such gross detail. Thankfully, the indie movie takes a balance, not capitalizing on the plight of the poor.
Enrique Gil’s ‘Dukot’ is a first of its kind for the young actor, an action-suspense thriller film that was based on real-life events, notably on the grief and suffering of a kidnap victim Carlo (Enrique) and his middle-class family – lawyer father, Charlie Sandoval (Ricky Davao), sister Cathy (Shaina) and mother Cecille (Bing Pimentel).
Film revolves around Carlo’s kidnapping when the criminal group (headed by Ping and Alex Medina) barges into his sister Cathy’s yoga studio and taking him along with their loot. The commotion and chaos are real and calculating.
The scenes that followed after reveal the unimaginable ordeal of the victim’s family, details in real life of which are often kept away from the public eye. The gang’s every move is calculated and bold as they brazenly talk with the family for ransom.
True to his previous statement, director Paul loves working with the likes of his idol, multi-awarded indie film director Lav Diaz (Hele sa Hiwaga Hapis) to get a piece of their genius, which has obviously rubbed off on him on this film. The precise execution of each scene, the details, acting – no one actor did not shine.
Carlo’s torment, as he languishes for days alone in that locked, filthy room is quite poignant - hungry, dirty, almost on the brink of losing his mind – while he peeps in that one single hole watching his captors celebrate a family member’s birthday with lavish food.
Shaina is competent as Cathy, a daughter trying to balance between guilt and a brave front for brother Carlo and her parents who feel that a time bomb ticking in their heads trying to raise the huge ransom money. Charlie is very effective, pictured as a model father who also succumbs to corruption in the workplace and justifies it.
Christopher de Leon wins aplomb for this film as the criminal gang’s accomplice, probably a first where he is not a rich, strict and jet setting executive. As manong Johnny, he looks unkempt, unshaven, quiet – a father who is also worried sick of his own son’s predicament.
Enrique will best be remembered for this film – a far cry from his past movies. He has character to carry out Carlo’s role with such depth and maturity.
‘Dukot’ gives a stark contrast between two fathers – Charlie and manong Johnny. Towards the movie’s end, manong Johnny’s emotion is perfectly captured as he gives out a big sigh of relief to finally meet his son, while Charlie awaits with bated breath for his Carlo. All good fathers are alike, regardless of circumstances and social status.
Despite some minor lapses, Dukot is certainly worth watching. Pacing is fast, don’t blink your eyes. Worth mentioning, too, is the movie’s musical score and sound that give it that needed oomph.
Dukot also stars Ricky Davao, Ping Medina, Bing Pimentel, Alex Medina, Bang Garcia, Dino Pastrano, now showing in cinemas.

Jessy Mendiola reiterated that she did not cause the breakup of former celebrity couple Angel Locsin and Luis Manzano, who is currently being linked to her.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Sunday, Mendiola broke down in tears as she emotionally defended herself against accusations that she is the third party in the high-profile breakup.
“You know, honestly, if it were true, I wouldn’t be here right now facing you guys. For me, it was clear that they broke up already when Luis started courting me. Babae ako, it happened to me before. I wouldn’t do that to any other girl,” she said, crying.
Rumors about Manzano and Locsin’s breakup first surfaced in January this year. Mendiola earlier claimed that Manzano only started courting her in May.
According to Mendiola, it hurts her when people allege that she stole Manzano from Locsin.
“It hurts kapag sinasabi nila na, for a lack of better term, ‘ahas’ ka. Labas ako sa kanila and what happened between the two of them. 'Yung amin, I think dapat labas na rin siya doon,” she said.
“Malinis ang puso ko. I would never ever destroy a relationship,” she added.
The actress said it is also up to Manzano and Locsin if they want to settle their differences as long as they keep her out of it.
“Problema na nila 'yun, kung gusto nilang mag-usap about it or clear anything with each other, I think that’s their problem. Pero huwag nila akong isasali,” she said.
Amid all this, Mendiola shared that Manzano has repeatedly apologized to her for everything that’s happening. She also confirmed that Manzano has taken over her Instagram account to respond to bashers.
“Alam kasi niya na masakit kapag ganun. Alam mo naman na hindi totoo and 'yun ang sinasabi ng ibang tao. Hindi naman nila alam 'yung whole story,” she said.

Cannot be Complacent

The campaign against drug pushers and users of the present government has sent shivers not only to the ordinary abusers, but also to alleged participants in drug incidents in the entertainment industry. While only a few celebrities have admitted their addiction, rumors of the widespread use of prohibited drugs in the local showbiz industry are prevalent. However, the closeness of the industry prevents snitches.
These days, Careful Celebrity (CC) has opted to be extra cautious with her decisions these days. During the years she has been with the industry, CC has had several controversies, in which one or two were field days for the press. However, CC has not been rumored to be a drug dependent or something similar to such label. CC has always maintained a clean image despite being hounded by a few negative stories in her career.
Unfortunately, as years passed, the connections of CC widened and without wanting to, CC allegedly became familiar with transactions and dealings. Because CC was knowledgeable with the ways, her involvement deepened and soon, she was connected with a group of suppliers. Despite the danger, CC was confident that she would not be dragged into such mess because of the people she knew in and out of the entertainment industry. In short, CC could have thought that in case she gets to be investigated or even accused, her powerful connections will vouch that she is not capable of such accusations.
However, the grapevine was abuzz that her group could have been part of the suppliers being investigated in an unfortunate social event a few months ago. Hence, CC could be called for questioning any time. To save her face and kin from embarrassment, CC went out of the country.
When CC returned from her vacation, she came home to a presidency bent on wiping off the drug menace in a few months. Thus, the change in the administration also changed the perception of CC of staying in the country. Instead of becoming complacent, even if the powerful people she knows are still in their positions, CC decided to stay low. After all, her name is allegedly included in a list of people to watch out for. Before she gets singled out, CC once again bid the country goodbye.
