Jolting His Attitude
When success gets into one’s head, arrogance and potential failure follow. Although this lesson has become a cliché and a warning, Celebrity Actor (CA) has succumbed to such mentality. After realizing he has amassed followers and fame thanks to the success of his loveteam, CA has given in to the temptation of behaving like a “diva.” In fact, whenever CA gets bashed in social media, a deluge of supporters will flood sites to defend CA.
Allegedly, CA has become demanding, which was a stark contrast to his quiet demeanor when he was starting out. Now, he has so many questions to the point that he can get on the nerves of his coworkers. Then, complaints have been received concerning his crankiness and uncooperativeness in some of his projects. At one point, he complained about his outfit, which made the production team panic just so they can find something to CA’s liking. This incident caused time and resulted in delaying the said project.
At first, his management left CA be himself, and damage control was easy. However, the complaints started piling up, and finally, the big bosses had enough. They called CA to a meeting. The management gave CA a stern warning: His career will be halted if he does not change his attitude. Words were not minced by the big bosses and soon, CA became emotional and apologized profusely for his lapses. Perhaps CA remembered that not everyone is given such support, and whatever he is enjoying now is the result of the opportunity given by his present management team.
With his dressing down from the management, changes are expected in the attitude of CA towards his career. However, CA also needs to acquire discipline and act more maturely, which implies changing his arrogant attitude and improving his sensitivity to the long-term outcome of his career.
Success isn't measured by money or power or social rank. Success is measured by your discipline and inner peace. – Mike Ditka

Letter from a Reader: Family Wants Justice. Death of Pregnant Mother and Her Baby Due to Medical Malpractice
Image courtesy of Fashion PULIS reader
Dear Fashion Pulis,
I am a 31 year-old mother. I wish to share through your blog the plight of my dear friend who suffered and died under medical malpractice at Mary Johnston Hospital (Tondo). She was 38 weeks pregnant with regular prenatal check ups, and generally had a healthy, normal pregnancy. Here is the sequence of events:
On March 23, she was 38 weeks pregnant – was admitted to Mary Johnston due to coughing and vomiting. Her cervix had also dilated by 3cm.
The next day, her dilation was not progressing, and cough was not improving as well. At this time, she was diagnosed with pneumonia and had fever. My friend discussed the option of delivering via caesarian section (CS) to her OB. However, the OB said that my friend could deliver normally when the infection and fever would have subsided. At this point, I got really worried. Although I do not have medical background, common sense dictates that the best option was to deliver the baby immediately and treat the mother afterwards. There were no other complications mentioned to the family.
March 24 – my friend was started on antibiotics to treat her pneumonia, no improvement so far.
March 25 – she was already given oxygen since she could not breath normally, couldn't even lie down as she felt congested. Her husband and mother pleaded with the OB to perform CS operation already to end her suffering. But again, the OB refused - reasoned out that patient needed to be treated first for her pneumonia and insisted the she could deliver normally after. This, still did not make sense to me.
Treatment for pneumonia went on but without improvement. In the middle of all this, as if to make matters worse, said OB went on a medical leave herself because of an emergency operation done on her. Patient's case was thus transferred to a fellow OB.
Her bag of water broke at 12AM of March 29. My friend was already hallucinating at this time, perhaps due to infection and lack of oxygen. Still, there was no sense of urgency from the medical people involved, the CS operation was done close to 7 hours later. The baby was dead upon delivery! His death certificate indicates perinatal asphyxia ( inadequate intake of oxygen ) as the cause of death.
The mother’s battle continued after her baby’s death. She was still unconscious, and was put on respirator. We were told that her organs were failing. Her heart enlarged, and was not pumping blood normally. She had little to no blood pressure and her kidneys could not eliminate excess water. The next viable option then was to do emergency dialysis to help alleviate the situation. We were already panicking when the attending physician had the gall to ask us if we knew of any surgeon who could perform the procedure! The official cause of death was pulmonary embolism, she passed away on the same day at 9:43PM.
FP, my dear friend's family are in unspeakable pain and grief at this time having lost 2 family members. We appeal that through this letter, you can help us expose this horrible incident and make those irresponsible people pay for their appalling negligence! We need justice!
Respectfully,
Melany

No Fair Treatment
Much can be said about the true character of celebrities based on their treatment of their support system, comprising their personal assistants, yayas, househelp, drivers, among others. Without a support system, the daily dealings of celebrities will be in havoc, as they will have to devote time to domestic chores, instead of focusing on their careers. However, regardless of the attitude of househelp, celebrities treat them differently.
For instance, while Singer Actress (SA) might have had her share of bashers recently, no one can take away the fact that she treated her yaya nicely and even got her yaya some endorsements. In the same manner, a Highly Valued Celebrity (HV), who has wealth, fame, connections, and bashers, too, is known for her kind treatment of her helpers. She even brings them to her out of town trips, sometimes even abroad. Not as famous as SA or HV, Actress Painter (AP) also treats her househelp with kindness and fairness.
Now, some househelps of celebrities are not as lucky. Some have been wrongly accused of theft or are treated with inhumane hours of working, especially drivers. Most have to live within the strict rules of households. For example, the household of Actress Host (AH) imposes a rule that all househelp should buy their coffee, sugar, food, and other needs. Hence, basic food items in the home of that celebrity are off limits to their househelp. Thus, the helpers have to purchase for their own consumption. Sadly, the said celebrity is not poor, and is considered as a competent host despite her many faults in the field.
So, why can SA, HV, and AP treat their househelp properly, whereas AH’s household cannot? Probably, the difference among these celebrities is the attitude towards wealth. SA, HV, and AP were raised in environments where generosity was something that was natural, and not a matter of wealth.
SA and HV were all born in well-to-do families, and had they not started careers in showbiz, they would still be comfortably living. For AP, although she was not born in a very rich family, her parents stressed respect for their helpers, and she never forgets to look back to where they came from. Hence, her elegance reverberates because of innate kindness. By contrast, the wealth AH is enjoying is the accumulation of shrewd career deals, long hours of work, and often overexposure in media. Despite stories that AH’s family was already well-off even before she started her career, there is no doubt that it was through her struggle that her family gained wealth and power.
Goodness is about character - integrity, honesty, kindness, generosity, moral courage, and the like. More than anything else, it is about how we treat other people. – Dennis Prager
