For the Love of Money

A Certain Personality CP was contracted by a Talent Show TS to give styling tips to its contestants as an added segment of the show. CP had to turn it down as she had a full schedule to accommodate. But not wanting to pass up a major opportunity, CP volunteered the services of A Relative AR who is also in the same line of work to substitute for her.
At TS, AR’s main responsibility was to give the participants of the show useful and practical tips about fashion and styling. In particular, AR focused on a Brand of Apparel BA ( the show’s sponsor) where she talked about BA’s details at length. In addition to her task as style advisor, AR also took the opportunity to promote her Personal Project PP in the show as well.
A few days after, probably thinking that she did a big favor to BA for advertising/and or pushing the brand in her fashion segment, AR reportedly billed BA a huge amount as talent fee for her efforts. BA was aghast and reported the matter to TS Production Head PH, who, like BA, was shocked and felt so embarrassed by AR’s shameless demeanor.
PH talked to AR and asked her why she did what she did when she was already informed beforehand of the nature of her work, and all the pertinent details attendant to it. PH resisted her reasoning saying that she was out-of-synch for asking fees from BA since she knew very well that it is one of TS’ sponsors. And besides, PH added, AR had been promoting PP in the top-rating show, and that alone was more than enough compensation.
PH was so pissed that it swore never to hire the services of AR ever again. Word got around the set saying that AR was ultimately blacklisted. From the TS staff: Served her right.

Abasing Mindset

He once had it all, as the cliché goes. Proud Talent (PT) was the toast of his station, as he was given breaks in acting, singing, and even hosting. Soon, the public noticed that PT was taking care of his body quite well, and thus, in the age of abs, PT’s body became another dimension to his fame. After a few years, PT was not shy of opening up where he invested his earnings. Of course, his development of a certain property as well as his propensity for luxury cars raised a few eyebrows on top of praises that he was a good investor.
However, the smile and the body could not hide the reality that his acting has not improved and his stubbornness to accept this weakness became evident in his alleged refusal to participate in acting workshops. Soon, the network was giving breaks to new talents, and thus, PT was no longer cast as the lead in the network’s projects.
Impatient, PT bolted out despite the existence of a live contract and a senior performer of the station volunteering to act as mediator. PT started accusing the network of wanting to change his wholesome image and use his physical assets to drum up interest in his career. He did not want such an image. The network kept quiet and did not get into any word war with PT.
The question in the minds of observers was why PT so hardheaded and proud. It seemed that his courage to get out and to resort to legal means were out of place and character. Allegedly, PT had a benefactor who was supporting his needs, and thus, PT felt assured that he had someone to lean on.
As the months passed, PT had no major projects and had to resort to social media to promote his gigs. Because he still had a contract, any producer who availed of his services without permission from the network will get in hot water.
Rumors have it that PT has been dropped by the alleged benefactor, and PT has lost his substantial allowance. Thus, PT had to resort to change his wholesome image and accept pictorials and endorsements that need to show off his body, which he tried to avoid when he was still with the network.
Over the years, many promising performers had lost what could have been major stardom because of conflicts with their managers or their stations. Very few have bounced back to reclaim what was lost. Others managed to revive their career, but were no longer as welcomed as before their falling out with powerful persons. With the attitude shown by PT, his chances of a comeback are becoming dimmer. In local showbiz, an out of sight performer is easily forgotten.
