Why Miss Universe-PH 2014 Got Body Enhancements

Unlike most beauty queens, Miss Universe-Philippines 2014 Mary Jean “MJ” Lastimosa is vocal about undergoing body enhancements.
In an interview on the ABS-CBN show “Tapatan Ni Tunying” aired Thursday, Lastimosa said she underwent “major, major” enhancements to improve her teeth and skin.
“Well, I have some enhancements,” she said casually. “For me kasi, enhancement is about improving yourself.”
“[If it means] You can reach that point na you feel confident about yourself, it’s okay, kung hindi naman bad ‘yung effect sa ’yo,” she added.
Lastimosa shared that what she went through was painful, but was quick to add that she needed it as a beauty queen.
“Talagang major, major talaga ‘yung mga laser and all that kasi sobrang kailangan talaga,” she said. “Ang daming pain… talagang tiis-ganda ang pagiging beauty queen.”
“Sabi nga nila ‘pag mahal mo ‘yung ginagawa mo, ‘pag thankful ka sa opportunity na binigay sa’yo, walang mahirap eh,” she added. “Nage-enjoy ako kasi ginusto ko nga ‘to, matagal kong hinintay ‘yung pagkakataon na ito. Parang ‘di ko makuhang magreklamo.”
It took Lastimosa three attempts before finally getting the coveted Miss Universe-Philippines crown. She first joined in 2011 and finished second runner-up. She made it to the Top 12 the following year.
“Ako lang ‘yung lumaban ng hanggang pangatlong beses para lang maipanalo ito. Hindi ako basta-basta bumibigay sa failure. So I think etong characteristic na ito, makakatulong sa akin sa Miss Universe pageant,” she said.
Filipinos have high expectations from Lastimosa following the Philippines’ consecutive Top 5 finishes in Miss Universe since 2010 (Venus Raj, Shamcey Supsup, Janine Tugonon and Ariella Arida).
The country also produced a number of beauty titlists in 2013 – Bea Rose Santiago won Miss International, Megan Young won Miss World, and Mutya Datul won Miss Supranational.
Lastimosa said that just like in the Binibining Pilipinas pageant, she will work extra hard to make the Philippines proud in this year’s Miss Universe.
“I will work hard, I will train hard and I will do my best para kahit anong resulta ang ibigay ni Lord sa coronation night ay mapasaya ko pa rin ang buong Pilipinas,” she promised.

He Made the Cut

In the beginning, a hot Young Hunk YH was the favorite of His Manager HM.HM had given YH steady projects which provided well for YH’s family, he being the breadwinner. HM was very generous to him, even giving him free use of his condo unit so that YH would be near his commitments and would no longer commute far to his home. It was indeed an ideal and comfortable set-up for both.
But as time went by, YH’s projects began to dwindle. He lost to a much Older Actor OA whom HM focused on more. Some say that was so because HM was having a hard time disciplining the stubborn YH as far as career and other important decisions were concerned. HM found OA more cooperative and professional and thus was favored more.
Consequently, YH severed his ties from HM. Without projects to look forward to anymore, YH ventured out looking for anything to tide him over. He could not afford not to because of the need to help his family. And as desperate as he was then, YH clung on to whatever was available for that time. It was then that he was reported to be on the flesh trade. There was reliable information that he was often sighted at a popular entertainment/leisure place and was selling himself to gays and “matronas” for several thousands a night.
To his loaded clients, YH’s rate was cheap, a steal for his overall look and status – specially his performance – which was allegedly, a feast. Expectedly, YH hang on to it for quite a time. When he finally grew tired of it, he went back to HM to reconsider him. Unfortunately, HM turned him down.
Heard from the grapevine that HM would have taken him back if only YH didn’t engage in the flesh trade. He was completely aghast that YH got into it. HM reportedly talked to YH’s parents to tell them formally that he was no longer keen on taking YH. Heard that HM was also relieved that he would not have to deal with his parents anymore who were so fond of making advance payments, among others.
Amidst what seemed like hopelessness, luck smiled at talented YH. Not long after, he was offered a television series and it looked like it would be the start of steady projects for him. Reportedly, the series with him on the lead is a very promising one – something that HM was not able to give him when he was still under his wing.
Sometimes, fate plays tricks. Not all that you lose is a loss.

Joint Exodus?

Will there be a massive exit of talents from Network G NG to Network L NL coming soon? From the looks of it, hmmm..what do you think?
Actress in Bloom AB was reportedly the first in the list to send feelers to the network’s Powerful Executive PE. In fact, there was some sense of urgency in BA, wanting so much to meet up PE, the sooner, the better. Stars who are equally desperate for a move are Singer-Songwriter SS and Awarded Songstress AS who have earlier appeared on some NL shows.
Allegedly, and for the longest time, there were collective ‘desperation’ from most NG stars towards their network. They expressed alarming concern that NG executives have been remiss in many ways in handling their talents – as the general feel is that of being caged or boxed.
More and more talents find the NG platform very limiting for them to express their artistry. Singers lament that there are hardly any shows where they can promote their concerts, albums and other projects. The network’s weekly show would have been ideal but not anymore as drastic changes had been made.
SS and AS allegedly have been contemplating to move to NL a long time ago. They feel that as artists, their growth and creative juices are being hampered by the limitations in NG. Indeed, one insider remarked that If you’re an artist bursting with talent, energy and passion – who needs a network that seem to thwart all that?
Those were supposedly the reasons why SS and AS appeared as guests on some NL shows just so they would be heard… on a wider reach. Not to mention, the source added …that overwhelming, classy feeling, too. Oh well.
AB, AS and SS want a move soon. Overheard, soon to follow is Playful Actress PA, scion of an icon.

Letter from a Reader: Varsity Player's Conscience is Missing
Dear Fashion Pulis,
Good day to you, FP! I am one of your avid fans. I read your blog everyday not only for the showbiz stuff but also for other relevant information.
I am a working mom and I write to you to expose this certain varsity player whose conscience is missing CM. CM is one of the more popular basketball players from one of the universities in UAAP.
CM is a dangerous guy victimizing young women, taking advantage of the girls’ vulnerability and his star player’s status, to abuse, get these girls pregnant and leave them like nothing happened.
I am one of those girls whom CM had victimized, impregnated and left me and my baby for nothing. FP, I am seeking justice not only for myself but also for and in behalf of all the women whose lives CM had shattered. This person should be stopped and punished for all the mistakes he committed. The list of his victims keeps getting longer, and I cannot afford to just sit down and watch him sow terror in the lives of us innocent victims.
In the beginning, CM would court the girls, promising them the moon and the stars, and once his lust gets satisfied and after the woman gets pregnant, that’s when CM disappears, leaving the woman alone to care for and support the child. CM has no conscience, he doesn’t discriminate, he abuses and gets even minors pregnant!
I know and admit that as a woman, it was my mistake to have been blinded, swayed and fell for a big pretender and liar like CM whom I truly loved in the beginning. But I believe that blaming myself should stop there, that my wrongs don’t make CM right. And I speak for his other victims, too, that something must be done.
CM’s activities are getting alarming, leaving these girls to be young mothers without any support from him. What kind of future await the mother and her fatherless child? At this point, keeping quiet about this matter should be out of the question. That is the very reason why CM continues to wreak havoc on these young women – because we just keep quiet and endure. This foreigner should be taught a lesson.
If ever CM was able to do this with impunity while he was in other countries, he should be made to account and pay for his crimes this time. He is earning big in our country and this is what he does to our young girls? No way!
Right now, CM resorts to blackmail, threatening us his victims and even boasting that there is nothing we can do because he is protected by his university which he plays for. It is for this reason why the other victims have chosen to keep quiet.
FP, I believe that our justice system is fair and that we will be heard. CM should not be tolerated and allowed to play in any of our Philippine university, earning big allowances and perks while wreaking havoc on our young, hapless women.
Thank you very much for giving this letter a space in your column. I hope that through your widely read blog, the victims will come forward. Our collective voices are enough to stop the vulture that is CM from preying on more young girls in the future.
God bless us all!
Sincerely,
Juliet
