With the pandemic and lockdown, various ways to earn and gain favor in businesses emerged in social media. These days, the trend is for a social media celebrity or influencer to endorse products or services of various businesses. For example, the opening of restaurants to a limited number of customers has also led to the need to advertise. One party gets to enjoy food or service, while the other receives mileage that could translate to increase in customers. After all, one post can be seen by hundreds of thousands or millions of followers of the said influencer.

While many social media celebrities are enjoying such status, a Celebrity Influencer (CI) wondered why she seemed to be excluded from the trend. CI noticed that fellow influencers who have fewer followers than her have been promoting restaurants, food, etc. CI has a lot of followers coming from various target markets and she would have the audience for products that need to be promoted. CI made her move.

CI started contacting various food businesses and even fine dining restaurants. Most responded favorably given that CI highlighted her number of followers and clout in social media. Several businesses sent her food. CI responded and said that she had received and tried the product sent to her. However, CI told them that they needed to pay a five-digit amount for her to upload the video in her stories.

The demand for payment of CI on top of the food sent to her shocked the senders. Usually, endorsers are happy with the food sent and require no more. In CI’s case, she wanted both. One restaurant responded that no budget was available. The business was struggling as the loss was great during the lockdown. Besides, influencers were approached to revive various businesses, especially restaurants. Some celebrities in the entertainment industry did not even ask for money at all. CI was adamant and stressed that her deal was how things are run in social media.

None of the restaurants agreed to the demand for money of CI. Most no longer cared if CI posted about their food or not. A couple of restaurants allegedly said that CI should not touch the food they sent and they were going to retrieve it immediately. The attitude of CI quickly spread among restaurant owners. Thus, when CI contacted another restaurant for a possible collaboration, she was ignored.

Repost: GMA Network's Statement on Actions Taken Upon Report of Positive Covid-19 Employee

GMA immediately took action when an employee informed the Network that she tested positive for COVID-19.

That same night, her permission was secured in compliance with the Data Privacy Act and which she readily gave so contact tracing was done swiftly and thoroughly. Those who had come into direct contact with the COVID positive co-worker were immediately placed on 14-day quarantine with pay. They shall also undergo rapid testing. The work areas were thoroughly disinfected on top of the daily disinfection being done.

Even if not required by government, GMA has conducted free rapid testing for field personnel and committed to shoulder the cost of the confirmatory RT-PCR test of anyone who tested positive due to exposure in their line of work.

To protect its employees, the Newsroom and other work areas are disinfected daily. All News workers were given face masks while alcohol dispensers and footbaths were placed in strategic locations. Social distancing and other safety protocols are mandated. The work spaces were decongested to comply with this. Those who can were allowed to work from home.

GMA News also came out with COVID-19 coverage guidelines to guide field teams during coverage. This was formulated following consultations with medical experts and Department of Health officials. Field teams were also given protective gear such as face masks, face shields, gloves, alcohol, etc.

When Metro Manila was under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) GMA provided its workers with meals, both those in the office and in the field. This continued until our canteen was able to reopen to service our personnel. Hazard pay was also given pursuant to the provisions of our collective bargaining agreement (CBA). And with the lack of public transportation, GMA provided shuttle services to its workers which continues to this day.

A Secret for a Secret

Should-have-been business partner (SP) is still feeling disappointed at how her failed partnership with Rich Investor (RI) led to ill feelings. SP and RI became acquainted when they were introduced by a common friend. As the business was being planned, SP managed to convince RI to place her capital and trust in SP. However, time passed and nothing happened and RI realized that she was faced with a loss.

Meanwhile, to salvage her face and relationship with RI, SP took the blame, as she was the one who led RI to the failed venture. She promised to pay back RI, but requested that RI keep the situation a secret. However, RI forgot and let the cat out of the bag, so to speak, to someone. SP found out and felt RI breached their agreement, which had resulted in embarrassment.

Similarly, RI had a family matter that she requested SP not to divulge. One time, when they were still discussing their future business, SP saw how RI treated her family members, who are based in the province, at her home. SP recounted that the family was amazed at the opulence of RI’s home and RI seemed uncomfortable with her family’s behavior. The family would have photo-ops at various parts of RI’s home, but RI would refuse to join them. SP apparently overheard RI say not to post in social media photos that included her, or else their allowance might not arrive. Further, SP noticed that RI seemed to look so much better than her family and she thought of the enhancements that RI might have undertaken.

As soon as RI was done entertaining, she went back to SP and they started to talk. SP was curious and asked RI why she did not want her photos with her family uploaded. RI simply said that she was protecting her family from bashers. Then, she requested SP not to reveal what she had witnessed in the home.

Hoping Against Hope

Fans are alerted when a relationship is happening when a celebrity starts to post photos with another. Immediately, a brave fan would ask the question if the celebrity is in a relationship. Depending on the state of the said celebrity, the fan can receive a clear response. Often, relationships are publicly declared via social media.

By contrast, fans are thrown in a frenzy when couple photos are deleted and traces of the former lover are gone. The sudden disappearance means the relationship is over. Meanwhile, Male Lover (ML) and Former Lover (FL) have not done such thing. Their photos showing happy memories during their relationship can still be found in their respective social media accounts. Thus, ML and FL obviously did not follow the predictable reaction that would come after a breakup. Later, they simply announced their relationship was over.

One time, a friend asked ML why he has not deleted any photos of FL. Although a long time has indeed passed, fans would still search for the couple’s photos and hit an affirmative button. At times, people would send messages of encouragement to ML for him and FL to reconcile and be each other’s forever given that they seem to be the perfect match. ML responded with a puzzling statement. Allegedly, he believes that the Person Linked (PL) to FL is merely a front. In other words, ML is not convinced that the two are really together. He assumes that the connection aims to drum up careers and maintain the interest of followers. Further, ML feels something is not right in that partnership of PL and FL.

Only when FL publicly admits her relationship with PL and uploads their photos together would ML respond accordingly. Consequently, he will delete all their remaining photos in his social media account and give up on the possibility that he and FL will find their way to each other’s arms.

Unwanted Attention

When Celebrity Actor (CA) and Known Personality (KP) were starting out, stakeholders noticed their chemistry and immediately produced projects to see if their partnership could translate into profitable investments. The stakeholders who gambled on the two were lucky, as CA and KP turned into a loveteam that amassed fans. Moreover, the two became a real couple, which delighted their followers more. However, like most loveteams, they hit the plateau and had to separate ways personally and professionally.

As years passed, CA and KP matured and had their relationships. Although both pursued their careers with different lead partners, loyal fans hoped that the two would reunite. Such an idea seems far-fetched as they are now worlds apart.

One day, KP was having a fun family gathering. Then, she noticed a man was standing in front of her home. What alarmed her was the appearance of the said man. He was wearing boxer shorts and slippers, and had no top on. Then, he started creating noise to make KP come out of her home. The helpers were shocked, as they had no idea who the man was and he looked like he was not in shape intellectually. However, they realized he might also be known, as he managed to enter the village.

When KP realized who the man was, she felt scared, as the man might do something uncalled for. She immediately called the security personnel. The guards arrived and asked the man to leave. He left without fuss, which made his stunt seem like he was tripping on KP. The man was CA, someone KP would rather keep in her past and might not have any part in her present and future.

Misbehaving Member

Forming groups is a strategy that has led to acquiring fans and showcasing talents of potential celebrities. While strict adherence to the vision of the group is required, members manage to outshine others with their style and talent. Being a member also requires another factor that is often ignored, that is, behavior.

Boy band members are required to behave, as any scandal can affect the reputation of the whole group. Even if the one who is involved in controversy is removed, the other members remain in question. The worst scenario is disbandment and the eventual end of one’s dreams. Apparently, A Member (AM) of a young local boy band, which has made a name in various media avenues, has disregarded such a possibility.

Some time ago, AM found out a Pretty Fan (PF) was on vacation in the country. PF comes from another country and is unfamiliar with how certain local celebrities conduct themselves via private messages. When AM and PF contacted each other, AM allegedly wanted to go to the hotel of PF. However, PF replied that he should take her around, as she had a hunch as to what could possibly happen if they are alone in her hotel room.

As the messages continued, AM allegedly asked PF for something explicit, but only via cam. PF was not swayed even if she were a fan and turned down the request of AM. Her action thus prevented a possible scandal that could have taken advantage of a fan’s innocence.
