Veteran host actress (VH) apparently did not leave her show quietly in contrast to the press releases as to why she left. VH got fed up with the way her show was running. She walked out, said she does not want to continue anymore, and declared, “I quit!” The production said that VH was very meticulous with the script and would request rewrites, even of the idiot board. The only thing lacking was her interference in the plugs of the show. VH can be such pain, according to the staff. However, the fact that VH is part of a religious group can have something to do with how she wants the show to flow. Besides, such a show demands so much from the host and very few hosts are cut to deal with such a format. Unlike her other shows that ended when she quit, her show is continuing with the network experimenting with younger actresses as hosts.

In one of the concerts of this host comedian (H), the audience did what was expected. They laughed at his corny jokes and did not mind the repetition. H was able to entertain the audience as usual. Then, the production staff started to sense that H was going to do something different just before the closing number. He insisted on performing a song that was not in the guide flow of the show. Hence, it would affect the coherence of the program. H said he told someone in the production earlier that he wanted to sing a song for his grandmother. Of course, the production people doubted this excuse. They knew he was just being hardheaded and wanted to get his way done. Much to their dismay, H got his way this time.

In another incident, just before the taping of his show, H started vomiting and complained that he was not feeling well. H asked to be rushed to the hospital and the taping was packed up because of his “sickness.” The production team was very upset because the setup cost almost one million and the show had already scheduled a guest artist. One of the higher ups decided to investigate secretly. H has a reputation of going on a gimmick on the eve of a workday and disregarding the call time for his daily show. The investigation revealed that H was indeed out the whole night before the taping. Now, the head wants H to shoulder the cost of the wastage of the resources caused by his irresponsible absence.

In a concert, music icon (M) and girlfriend (G) were spotted in a corner getting physical with one another. M noticed that cameras were pointed at them. He requested the camera people not to show on TV any footage of him and G. M said he did not want other people to know who was with him in the concert. The people found this strange because he and G are publicly acknowledged as a couple. However, they were too chummy that night and onlookers had comments, such as “get a room.” Another angle has it that M is also seeing a fashion personality (P). P has denied any involvement with M but she is known for making denials, anyway.

Letter from a Reader: Fierce and Fashionable?

Dear Fashion PULIS,

I am a regular reader of your blog. I find your blog a "complete package" as it is not just about showbiz stuff, but you also write about inspiring stories of ordinary people. And there's social responsibility, too, as you also address consumers' rights by providing them space in your blog. If only for that, I thank you, Fashion Pulis.

Anyway, I would like to relay to you a story about an American clothing retailer in the Philippines (AR) with several branches worldwide. I came to realize that its Philippine branch seems to be duping its local clientelle.

My teenage kids and I are regular shoppers at AR. Aside from the shop's cool interior, we also like the trendy and hip designs of its varied collections. Although prices may not really be cheap, but the thought that we're buying quality is enough to justify the cost. As they say - quality has a price.

But lately, we are often disappointed to find out that quality ceases to be AR's major turn-on anymore. Slowly we are getting suspicious of their products. To be honest about it, we did our own investigation to satisfy our curiosity and disgust. And lo and behold, what did we find out?

Some of AR's merchandise are not originally made in USA. For one, we found out that some of its fashion accessories are just copied/outsourced from a major local retailer, stamped with AR's name and then sold at double, and more often, triple the price. What a big let-down!

The (mal)practice is real. But if not addressed properly, the damage will even be greater. With competition in the industry getting intense, this is the last thing that AR needs. As they say in business - it takes years to build a good reputation, but only minutes to ruin it.

Some reporters went on a set-visit. One reporter (R1) saw a friend (R2) in the set and shouted, “Bakla!” to call the attention of his fellow Becky. Coincidentally, this singer (S), who is rumoured to be in the closet, was walking towards another reporter when R1 hollered. R2 looked at where R1 was and to their surprise, even S turned around. When S realized what he did, he glared at R1.

Incidentally, S and a good-looking talent (G), whose tagline includes the city where he grew up, are getting along well. S is so into G that he allows G to bring his straight friends to make their meetings look like a group gimmick. Hence, anyone who sees them would think it is nothing more than an innocent boys’ night out. However, only after everyone has left, does the real date begin. As to where S and G go for their private moment, we can only surmise.

However, there’s more to this. S is still involved with someone who works in an airline (A). It seems that S is dating G on the side. Moreover, there is already some suspicion that S brings G to the house A maintains.

This endorser (E) is proud that he is the current image model of the latest product line of a fast food chain. What makes him prouder is that he even sang the jingle of the TV commercial. During the press launch of the TVC, E was asked to sing the jingle. E left the audience speechless because he lip-synched his song! The sad part was that many noticed that E was mouthing off incorrect lyrics. Some were feeling pain in watching E because other than his inability to master the song, the owners of the country’s franchise were in the audience. It was not the best time for E to embarrass himself because people in the industry know that the franchise owner is musically gifted.

After the incident, the audience hoped that E would be better prepared in his next events. He cannot survive in the business only out of his cuteness factor.

Miss Canada Universe Transgendered Candidate is Out of the Competition

The transgendered Miss Universe Candidate Jenna Talackova is officially out of the competition. The following is a press release by the pageant:

TORONTO, ON (March 23, 2012) – Jenna Talackova from Vancouver, British Columbia will not compete in the 2012 Miss Universe Canada competition because she did not meet the requirements to compete despite having stated otherwise on her entry form. We do, however, respect her goals, determination and wish her the best.

The 61st annual Miss Universe Canada Pageant will be held at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts (Bluma Appel Theatre) in Toronto. Sixty-five delegates from across Canada will be in Toronto from May 11th to May 20th and will compete for the title of Miss Universe Canada 2012, awarded on Saturday, May 19th, 2012. The reigning Miss Universe Canada, Chelsae Durocher will assist in crowning her successor before a live audience.

Over Exposed or Merely Exhausted?

Media entertainer (ME) staged her concert in a city down south. The venue was jampacked as ME commands a following these days. The audience noticed that one of the guests, a veteran impersonator had longer exposure than ME. When ME said that her song was the last, the audience was disappointed and had the gut feeling that there seemed to be more.

After the concert, some of the viewers felt shortchanged as they were expecting to give her best just like in her Manila concert. Then, some of them learned that ME still had three songs left but she had to cut it because she was already very tired and was afraid she might bore the audience.

ME must really be exhausted as she is seen on TV every day giving her all. She is also emerging to be the most in demand endorser. Sadly, her detractors say she is already overexposed. Nonetheless, ME has to pay for what her fame now demands even if it means going beyond her talent but she should never ever shortchange her audience.

Did network executive (NE) already ask help from her talent management to calm down singer actress (SA)? Since the past weeks, SA went ballistic over a social networking site. She even went as far as pointing the blame to a specific group responsible for the tirades in her account. 

The disappointing behavior of SA alarmed NE and the network because her behavior might ruin her image, create a negative response from the advertisers, and not attract enough support for her upcoming show. However, SA seems to be familiar with the angle that the specific group is indeed maintained by a certain idol. The said specific group works as a hate brigade and in the process, makes the idol look pitiful, hence gaining more sympathy for him.

Letter from a Reader: The Nosy and Noisy Fan

Dear FP,

I am one of those quiet readers of your blog and often I wonder where you get your sources. However, more than the stories, what I like are the views of your readers. Anyways, I would like to narrate an incident I personally witnessed while in the MRT last week. It was around 8pm and I was on my way to Makati.

These two girls boarded the train at Quezon Ave. My attention was caught because one of them was speaking very loudly. Apparently, both of them came from a network taping. Girl 1 was talking about how she went to several tapings; her “Ate T” was taping for her fantaserye; how a certain PA left this celebrity so this celeb and her sis had to carry their bags; how another personality had to change her “panty” during a taping (Girl 2 was quiet all the time until she corrected Girl 1 to say “underwear”); how some fans of Ate T got held-up and lost their BBs while on their way somewhere, among others. Girl 1 even said she attended the taping of a talk show of the sis of her Ate T. That was when I finally figured out who she was talking about.

I wanted to shut her up but the crowd got thicker and I did not want to leave my seat. Despite the distance and the crowd between us, I could still hear that fan yapping. My thoughts were full of pity for the celebrity who was being talked about one of her fans in such a public place with so many people hearing even if they do not want to. I only wanted to share this experience to let your readers from the different networks know how certain fans behave publicly (and then they question the credibility of your BIs).

A Crumbling Relationship

The breakup of sexy actress (SA) and actor dancer (AD) created a stir because people thought their relationship was very strong. In fact, their public declaration of their relationship last year undeniably hurt the secret ex-girlfriend of AD. Early this year, both were alleged to have gotten married abroad but both denied that story.

Now, SA and AD broke up because of how SA is behaving with her hunk leading man (LM). AD is jealous of the sweetness SA shares with LM, not to mention that SA and LM have love scenes in their TV project. However, people are saying that AD has no reason to be jealous of LM; rather SA should feel threatened in case LM sets his eyes on AD.

Another angle is that this is all a publicity gimmick to generate interest in the teleserye through SA. After all, LM, who has suffered in silence since late last year, has become aloof with the media. Everyone knows that LM will still be bombarded with questions regarding his controversy instead of his projects. SA, meanwhile, has had her share of controversies so she can very well stand up to questions regarding her relationship with AD.
