Letter From a Reader: Unpaid Plane Tickets

Dear Fashion PULIS,

Last June 2011, this singer, her mom and manager flew to the United Stated for a series of concerts. Most of our clients pay for their plane tickets first prior to their departure date. However, in this case, the manager informed us that she will just settle the bill when they get back because she ran out of checks. Since she was referred to us by a close friend (former actor who is now based in Hong Kong), we trusted her and allowed them to board the plane without a doubt that she will pay us when they get back. In total, she got three Manila-Los Angeles-Manila business class tickets amounting to 440,000.00 PhP (four hundred forty thousand pesos).

A month later, the singer and her manager returned from the US. Her mother, on the other hand, decided to stay there for a little longer. When we sent the billing statement to the manger, she told us that she does not have money because the producer in the US failed to pay the professional fees. She started ignoring our emails, text messages and phone calls since then. I even requested our lawyer to send her a demand letter but she simply ignored it.

Our friend, who referred her to us, tried to get in touch with her but he could not reach her. Since we have not been paid, we decided to cancel the Los Angeles-Manila ticket of the singer's mother so she is still stuck in the US until now.

Everything Got Delayed

The director of this television series gave specific instructions to the make-up artist. When this reality star alumna turned actress did not like what her make-up artist did for her, she started acting like a spoiled brat and ordered him to redo everything. The make-up artist told her that he was just following the orders of the director but she still refused to listen.

When the director saw the actress, he was furious. Her look was totally inappropriate for the scene so he sent her back to her make-up artist. The make-up artist had no choice but to do everything all over again.

The entire production schedule for that day was delayed for hours because of the stubborn of one actress. After this traumatic incident, the make-up artist resigned from the show because he could no longer stand this actress' attitude.

Letter From a Reader: Masking a Scandal in the Performing Arts

Dear Fashion PULIS,

I know you have such a big following and I was hoping I could share this with all your readers. This story does not involve anyone from show business or the world of fashion but it involves some influential people in the world of the arts. 

Currently, there is a scandal brewing that involves a certain artistic director of the group and  one of its solo performers. The soloist is contemplating to file a lawsuit against the director for sexual harassment. What is sad is that the person who leads the said group knows about this but she is doing everything possible to protect the director.  At present, many of the group's performers are leaving after they discovered this director's activities that involve minors. 

FP, I hope you can help get the word out because the actions of this director should never be tolerated. Thank you and more power to you!

Letter from a Reader: 150 PhP for an Extra Paper Bag?

Dear Fashion PULIS,

Last Friday, my friend and I went shopping in this high end luxury store. We bought a few aromatherapy diffusers and scented candles to give as gifts to our friends. Our total purchases amounted to more than six thousand pesos.

When the items were handed to us, they were placed in four small paper bags. Since my friend and I had to carry other things, I asked the SA if we can have two bigger paper bags to put the smaller paper bags inside them.

I had the shock of my life when the SA told me that I have to pay 150 PhP for an extra paper bag. I told him that I am a regular customer and this is the first time that I heard this  policy. He told me that he needed to get the approval of his manger before he can give me the two paper bags for free.

My friends and I waited for more than twenty minutes for the SA to come back. A friend of mine who was with us became impatient so he asked for the manager. When the manger saw him, she immediately recognized him as a regular customer. She hurriedly looked for the SA and instructed him to give the paper bags.

Do you think it is right for a high end luxury store to charge 150 PhP for an extra paper despite the fact that we just spend more than six thousand pesos in the store? I would love to hear from the readers of Fashion PULIS.

Years ago, this singer was instructed by the network's management to keep things under wraps after noticing his extraordinary closeness with this certain actor. When the singer discussed this with the actor, they both agreed to distance themselves from each other to avoid unnecessary talks.
