  1. I’m not the biggest fan of ABS, especially considering how they’ve treated some talents and the favoritism that seemed to grow along the way. At one point, the network honestly felt like it got too full of itself. But NONE of that JUSTIFIES what happened to them. Their franchise was revoked by Duterte and his allies for purely political reasons, an abuse of power meant to silence the media, and that was wrong, plain and simple.
They deserve to have their franchise restored. Not because they’re perfect, but because press freedom matters and no administration should be allowed to shut down a network just to punish criticism. Bring their franchise back!!!

    2. Totally agree. However it appears that abs is no longer interested in the franchise since the Villars already took their frequency. Pretty sure that if they sell it back, it will be a very very steep price

Shady din ang ABS kaya nakalkal lahat ng baho pati sa mga trabahador may complaints against them that were put under the rug.

      Delete
ABS CBN refunded the payment and apologized.
Press freedom is supposed to protect even the outlets you disagree with.

    6. At 1:50 mas shady ang mga politician who tried to silence media for freedom of speech by shutting it down. It’s a business. It has the right to refuse business if it’s against their values. Duterte admin was very wrong on shutting them down. Look what US did when Trump tried to silence Jimmy Kimmel et al. As powerful he is, he cannot do so because of “freedom of speech”. And don’t get me started my abs cbn not paying their taxes right. So Bakit ABS CBN lang? How about yung mga nag nakaw sa kaban ng bayan? Bakit hindi sila tangalan ng license to operate or ipakulong man lang? It only serves them interest if the affected party is the target.

    12. Tama lang ang ginawa sa ABS - too bad yun bad practices nila ang na expose kasi they think their giants in the industry and untouchable they could do whatever they want and no one can shut them down. Now they are as humble as pie.

Di ba nga integrity is doing something good even if no one is looking. Yung pagiging abusive nila creates biases among the viewers which is silently dangerous.

Kaya please, huwag kang magpaka moral authority. Mali ang ipinaglalaban mo!

    25. 1:15 am, Correction: The franchise of Abscbn was NOT revoked. It expired and they applied for renewal during President Noynoy but it was not granted.

They again tried to re-apply for renewal during Duterte term. Abscbn approached the Congress. Malaki ang nakita nilang discrepancy in paying taxes.

      Delete
    26. 3:46 pm Correction din. The franchise did not simply expire in a vacuum. When a franchise is up for renewal, Congress has full authority to grant it, and no administration before Duterte ever moved to block ABS CBN despite the same expiration timelines. Under PNoy walang political effort to shut them down. Wala ring campaign to punish the network kaya hindi comparable.
Second, the tax issue is MISINFORMATION. The Bureau of Internal Revenue itself testified under oath that ABS CBN had no outstanding tax liabilities. Their taxes were audited every year and they were fully compliant. Kung totoo ang sinasabi mong malaking utang, the BIR would have issued assessments and collections long before the franchise hearings. They stated clearly that ABS CBN paid the correct taxes.
Third, if the franchise was denied because of alleged violations, bakit walang kaso. Bakit walang penalties. Bakit walang criminal complaint. Because the hearings showed no legal basis to deny renewal. Even DOLE clarified na yung labor issues were already resolved or under process. Agencies that should have found problems did not. The only people pushing for denial were Duterte allies after Duterte repeatedly attacked the network.
So let us call it what it was. The franchise was not lost due to taxes or technicalities. It was denied because a sitting president wanted to silence a network he felt was unfriendly to him. That is why it was wrong!

    4. 140 he will not be in the position to do that kung narenew yung franchise nila before expiration.

      Delete
    5. @1:25 That excuse has been debunked so many times it’s almost funny. The franchise may have been up for renewal during PNoy’s term, but there was zero effort from Congress to weaponize it. Nobody was trying to shut them down. Because under PNoy, the goal wasn’t to bully the media.
The only reason ABS lost its franchise was because Duterte publicly threatened them and his allies carried out the political hit. That’s the truth. Trying to blame PNoy is just a lazy way to dodge the fact that Duterte used government power to go after a network he didn’t like.
So let’s stop pretending this was some technical oversight. It was a deliberate move to silence the press, and everyone knows it!

They owe the government billions of taxes.

    1. 1:32 Not true at all.lol Let’s be honest, nobody’s sitting around watching old school TV anymore. Advertisers aren’t dumb, they’ve already moved their money to online platforms because that’s where real viewers actually are. Regular TV is dying, and at the rate it’s going, it’ll be OBSOLETE in a few years. Some people just refuse to accept reality because it doesn’t fit the narrative they’re clinging to.lol

      Delete

      Delete

      Delete
    4. Not true. According to my source, the other top network might not be able to give bonus this year since it has been losing money with less TV ads. Companies are now banking on online and social media ads as most people are now using online platforms when watching shows/contents.

      Delete
    5. 2:49 That mindset is stuck in 2005. Brands don’t throw money at TV just because someone claims “millions of viewers.” Those numbers don’t mean anything if people are on their phones during commercials. Online platforms give advertisers what TV never could: real engagement, real data, and real results. That’s why ad budgets have been leaving TV in MASSIVE chunks.
And yung “followers but not famous,” that’s a shallow take. Influence today is measured by impact, not by whether you fit the old-school celebrity checklist. Even your so-called A-listers need digital platforms now just to stay relevant. The industry already moved on.
Some people like you just haven’t caught up! lol

      Delete
    6. 2:29 That take oversimplifies the entire media business. ABS CBN and every major network worldwide is shifting to digital not because maliit ang kita, but because doon na talaga ang future ng audience and advertisers. TV ad revenue is collapsing everywhere, while digital keeps growing fast. Brands want targeting, data, and real results. TV can’t deliver that anymore.
The reason they took a huge financial hit was Duterte’s politically motivated franchise shutdown, not digital revenue. And despite that, they rebuilt massive reach through YouTube, iWantTFC, streaming partnerships, and content deals without the heavy costs of a full broadcast network.
Online isn’t small money. It’s the new mainstream.

I am in the marketing and advertising company and hindi totoo na mas malakas ang money sa online platform. You can go check Google or ask ChatGPT.

    10. yes, brands still invest in TV

    11. Nakalimotan na siguro ng iba that not everyone has access to internet. Kaya wag nyo smolin ang tv network coverage. Ung mga nasa laylayan..

      Delete
    12. From the advertising industry here and saw everyone’s arguments. Each raised a valid point but let me help clarify - Mas malaki pa rin di hamak ang ad rates sa free TV, kahit na may digital na - that’s a fact.

It is a fact also that advertisers began shifting their money to digital. Yung isa sa top advertiser ay spending more on digital na. However, ang baba lang ng ad rates sa digital versus sa free TV so ilang views ang kailangan mo bago mo marating ang kita ng free TV. ABS-CBN na nga which has a strong following sa digital e hindi pa mapunan yung nawala sa kanila sa free TV.

      Delete
    13. 2:14 classmates ba kayo ni DTI Sec? Pareho kayong out-of-touch sa reality. Alam mo bang 60% of Filipinos don't have internet access? They still rely sa radio and free TV.

      Delete
    14. 12:02 I dunno, baka parehas lang kayong tama. Kasi kahit maraming pinoy ang walang internet at reliant parin sa TV, most likely yung target audience sa mga ads ay yung mga can afford na may internet, since that means mas malakas ang purchasing power nila.

      Delete
They follow hard data, not chismis statistics.
At yung “labas labas din” mo? Please. That’s why brands are dumping money online, not because you feel sentimental about free TV.
Next time bago ka mang-label ng “out of touch,” make sure hindi ikaw yung naiwan sa lumang panahon!

      Delete
    16. 8:06 You make solid points, and you’re right about one thing, historically free TV commanded much higher ad rates. But that model is fading fast. Advertisers aren’t shifting to digital out of curiosity, they’re doing it because consumer behavior has fundamentally changed. Brands will always put their money where the eyeballs are, and those eyeballs are overwhelmingly online now. The industry isn’t debating whether digital will surpass TV. It already has. It’s just a matter of how fast the rest of the market catches up!

    5. Abscbn franchise was NOT renewed because they are not paying their "taxes" in full amount. They are paying the minimum amount for several years. In Senate hearing about franchise renewal, Kapamilya was paying over 150 million plus late fee, kahit ang tax nila umaabot ng billions. They continued to pay the minimum amount. Pinag-bigyan sila ng goberyno but they continued to pay the minimum amount.

Kaya ni-terminate ni MVP ang contract with Abscbn because they are unreliable partner.Abscbn wants to use the airtime and timeslot of TV-5 but not paying the exact rental amount .1 Billion po ang utang ng Abscbn sa TV5.;Bakit sila mag stay sa TV 5 kung ayaw naman nila magbayad ng tama?

One day, streaming will have higher fees pero not yet.

  30. It's a blocktimer agreement. So yes, ABS is renting the timeslot. And depending on the deal, TV5 doesnt really get any ad revenue from the slot. The only money TV5 gets is from the rent, and apparently ABS can't pay it. Like with EB before, GMA didn't get a cut of ad revenue.

So if TV5 airs their own programs instead, they'll at least get some money instead of not getting anything, allegedly, currently from ABS. Their ad loads for their homegrown shows, even for relatively low rated shows, have been increasing. And there's talk TV5 might be licensing their upcoming shows to streamers, like K-dramas. So that's extra money as well.

    1. Your point?

      Delete
    2. That might be the case, but that has nothing to do with the fact that ABS is refusing to pay what it owes based on a legal contract.
