Failing a Friend

When Newbie 1 (N1) and Newbie 2 (N2) found themselves together in the same project years ago, they started to build a friendship that seemed to be for keeps. N1 and N2 bonded. N2 became N1’s confidant. N1 also epitomized the typical discovery story − she was alone. To make N1 feel better, N2 opened her home and provided the car she needed to go to her commitments.

As time progressed, N1 and N2 had diverse career paths. N1 shot to fame, while N2 did several supporting roles. N1 became busy with her projects and N2 chose a career away from the limelight. They tried to keep in touch, but N1 often replied very late to N2’s messages with an excuse that she was busy. When N1 was stable, she took the responsibility of taking care of her family.

Years later, N2 was in dire straits and called N1, who was her last resort. N2 needed a loan for family members who were in the hospital. N1 said her finances were handled by Close Relation (CR). Upon hearing the amount, CR flatly refused for N1 to give out the full amount to an estranged friend. Although N1 defended her friendship with N2, CR wanted a collateral. N1 told N2 the conditions, but the latter said she no longer had a car and the property title was with the bank. N1 asked for time to convince CR to release the amount.

A few days later, N1 told N2 that she was able to borrow money. However, N2 said she no longer needed the amount, as N1’s past lover already gave her the loan with ‘pay when able’ and no collateral conditions. N1 was left speechless.

‘It was one of those times you feel a sense of loss, even though you didn't have something in the first place. I guess that's what disappointment is- a sense of loss for something you never had.’ ― Deb Caletti

    1. True but N2 has been a good friend and helpful when N1 was just starting.

    1. E sabi nga ni FP noon, N2 opened her home and provided the car N1 needed for her commitments. Walang utang na loob si N1.

  7. Duh! For hospitalization pa mandin.

    1. So toxic mo naman, tulong is not an obligation kung hindi mo naman dependent (like anak). When you help, wala ka dapat ineexpect na kahit anong kapalit or manunumbat ka later on, ginawa mo yun kasi gusto mo nothing less nothing more.

You are just asking a favor. Always have a plan B.
