    2. Really? It only shows her ignorance! Lunar New Year is celebrated by a lot of cultures not just Chinese!

    4. Pano naging dean yan? Pwede ba sa faculty of racism hahjaja

    5. Filipinos are a bunch of copycats. We now celebrate Thanksgiving . (But why? I don't remember our ancestors landing on Plymouth Rock nor do we have a Plymouth Rock and the turkey was never popular in the Philippines. Inaadobo nila instead of baking or roasting it for 4-5 hours), Chinese New Year (now we have two, January 1 and the CNY which falls on a date where the Lunar new year falls and it changes every year , Halloween which we never celebrated before. We have UNDAS, remember folks?, Mother and Father's Day. Never did we have a special designated day to honor our parents. Well at least I'm glad we do have one now. Copycats, that's all that we are.

    7. @9:21 very very wrong ang logic mo ate. pagnagbakasyon ka na ba ng holiday, that means you are celebrating kung ano yung reason ng holiday.

      Delete
    8. This statement us racist, this Dean should publicly apologize.

    9. Isn't it because last year kaya naman talaga kumalat ang covid is because of the migration of people right after the lunar year celebrations in China? Marami kasing umuwi then bumalik sa foreign countries while only a few countries imposed a travel ban. Baka yon ibig sabihin nya--connected sa lunar year celebrations, not because of China.

      Delete
  5. Agree with her comment. Hindi naman tayo Chinese para mag celebrate ng Chinese New Year.

    2. Pero meron din akong mga Pinoy friends na nagcecelebrate ng CNY, ok lang makisaya, good luck and good vibes, hwag ng nega kung di kayo magcecelebrate. Co-exist harmoniously.

    3. Since this is your take, hndi ka nagholiday off?! supposedly you went to work without extra pay - did you 1:47 & 2:27?

    5. Then let us not celebrate too the Muslim holidays like the Ramadan?

    6. But the fact that she associates CNY for the spread of the virus is so racist. Condoning her statement makes you a racist as well

    9. 1:48 same reason why the last day of ramadan is a holiday kahit sa mga hindi Muslim.

    4. For being Racist. Chinese Filipinos are also
Filipinos. They have been part of the country since kupong kupong even before the Spaniards came. They have the right to celebrate such holiday and we as their kababayan can respect that just like how we should also respect the Filipino Muslim. By history, Muslim religion in the Philippines was practiced even before the Spaniards brought Catholicism in the country. That’s why we had Sultans before. No one is forcing other Filipinos to celebrate it but if you do not respect it like being quiet about it, then you are crossing a line.

Saying you’re a filipino not celebrating chinese new year is a fact.

Instead you respect her belief. Why cant you do the same.

On relating cny sa spread of coronavirus, hindi ba totoo naman? We used to call it wuhan virus, ngayon naman ung galing sa UK, UK variant, nagagalit ba ang taga-UK?

    4. Right for her personal post. But she is in the position na may mga filchi na students sa kanya. Can she be at least sensitive enough to think of that? Do you really need to tell everyone how you relate corona virus with cny. Kagalang galang iyong position nya, phd pa, ganyan magpost?

    5. If ayaw niyang magcelebrate ng CNY, she should've just kept it to herself. It's not a reason for her to be a racist. She knows na mataas posisyon niya but she did it anyway. Lol

  13. Totoo naman, no need to observe CNY kung hindi naman Chinese.

Tayo kasing mga Pinoy, we’re trying to hard to be hard.

  14. Di po ata nagets kung ano pinaghihimutok ng mga naoffend..Its not the Chinese NeW Year okay kung opinion nya yan..ang mas pangit pakinggan from an EDUCATOR and DEAN to say the least pa e inassociate pa nya yung COVID sa celebration. Totoo man yan its not appropriate and its racist to say lalo na coming from someone na dapat at this times na puro hatred na e sya pa pasimuno.

  16. what a racisf comment. E kung gahyan ang sabihin ng mga amerikano about a filipino holiday in the u.s???? people say na racist ang mga puti e ganyan dn naman pala kayo sa ibang lahi

    ReplyDelete
  17. Don't see anything racist or wrong with this. Ayaw niya mag celebrate ng CNY dahil it reminds her of covid which is widely accepted came from Wuhan. Wala naman siyang racist or derogatory remark against sa mga chinese.

    ReplyDelete
Gusto nya pa yatang matanggalan ng work. Huwag naman ganun. Kung hindi nya feel magcelebrate ng Chinese New Year at yon ang gusto nyang iparating, just respect it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It's lunar new year and it's called respect for your brethren's belief because no man is an island.para syang hindi nag aral.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I am on the dean's side. It was the celebration that somehow allowed the spread of the virus last year. Brave of her.

  21. Tama naman sinabi nya.

  22. I agree with the Dean.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well, it’s true. Why are we obliged to celebrate something foreign to us in our own land. Kaloka diba.

  24. Oh well, I’m half-chinese but I don’t really celebrate Chinese New Year. New Year for me was December 31. I don’t really understand the Lunar new year.

    ReplyDelete
  26. This comment section just shows how ignorant people are to think there is nothing wrong with what the Dean said. Don't celebrate the event if you don't want to but don't judge who wants to celebrate it. Just keep dumb opinions to yourself. Kahiya

  33. her wall, her rule! anybody may call her out but still its her opinion. so, let her be!

    ReplyDelete
  34. First instinct is to call racism. Yes, we shouldn't blame chinese people HERE for the spread of coronavirus. But it DID come from China. They eventually had it controlled after it spread to the world, including the Philippines.

Next, yes, why are Filipinos who aren't Chinese celebrating Chinese New Year? Are you practicing following the Eastern Zodiac? No? Then why? Do you just enjoy wearing red and eating tikoy? It's cultural appropriation.

She voiced her opinions, and they are not harmful. You want to call her out but not the Christians in this country who promote hate towards muslims or lgbt?

    ReplyDelete
Geeeez.

    ReplyDelete
  36. As a Dean, and for being professional, opinions like this should be just kept to yourself. You don't have to air it to the public. Calling all the priests of UST. You might need to do something with this Dean. I thought you are teaching well your students the right conduct and code of ethics.

If ever you make a public apology after you go viral for your "lack of better judgement", pakisundan mo na din ng resignation at baka matuwa pa sayo ang FilChi community.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sino bang pumipilit sa kanyang magcelebrate ng Chinese New Year? Duh!

    ReplyDelete
  43. As a dean she should know better. It’s okay if she does not celebrate it, I’m sure no one is forcing her. Busy just be respectful. It is obvious her post is coming from hate, hatred toward the Chinese. But she should understand that Chinese/Han Chinese is a big race, you’ll find them in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, USA and all around the world, not just in China or Taiwan. There’s a huge population of Chinese Filipinos too, the oldest Chinatown is in the Philippines. It’s just simple, respect other culture, Chinese Filipinos people have been in the Philippines since it was founded. Some of our cultures from food and traditions were inspired from them hundreds of years ago. Just like how at the present time, many Filipinos are trying to adapt American or Korean culture but you don’t see people complaining. The deans and others here agreeing are just plain racist.

While personal na opinion nya yung post nya, yung identity nya is so intimately tied to her profession (dean) na kelangan masusing pag iisip bago mag post sa public. More importantly sino ba followers nya? Mostly those affiliated with the school and her profession di ba? Tangalan ng lisensya yan and remove her as dean - kakahiya ka sa propesyon.

  57. I am Chinese Filipino. Filipino in identity but proud of my Chinese heritage and origins. I like balut just like I like century egg. Virgin's Mary's birthday, Guan Yin's birthday, Christmas Day. Buddha's birthday are all important to me. I read the bible, Confucian classics and Buddhist scriptures.

I particularly enjoy celebrating Gregorian new year, Chinese new year, and celebrate Aid'l Fit'r with my Muslim colleagues. All these serve to enrich me and made me what I am. The rich traditions and heritage my forebears bequeathed to us we introduce to our Filipino brethren and younger generations. They are embedded into the tapestry of Philippine national culture -- certainly made more colorful and richer by the blending of cultures and traditions and the presence of different groups who are Filipinos regardless of race, class, religion, belief or traditions.

  58. Siguraduhin niya wag rin siya gumamit anything from China wag siya mag Chinese food, iPhone other gadgets etc kasi lahat makakaalala sa kanya ng COVID. And while she’s at it make sure to also not use anything from Japan, Spain and USA since ginahasa at binaboy ang mga tao at lupa ng Pilipinas.

  59. It’s such a highly-irresponsible comment coming from the Dean of the only ChED-recognized Center of Excellence Pharmacy Program, no less. “With great power comes great responsibility.” Even a fictional character like Spider Man embraces and advocates that, Dean. - From a proud alumnae of the UST Faculty of Pharmacy and an even prouder registered pharmacist who was bred under the highly-intelligent, well-respected and well-mannered Dean then, Dr. Norma V. Lerma.
