    1. You're not getting it do you? he's saying if you're demanding for quality filipino films then they need assurance that more of us will indeed watch the films they're asking to give filipino films a chance and actually pay for it in cinemas cause as he said return of investment is important in covering the cost of a quality film

    2. 200 Wait but that doesn’t make sense because it’s the SELLER’S job to convince the BUYERS that their product is quality. You can’t turn the tables & tell the buyers that you’ll only make quality products if they promise to buy. That is just plain weird.

    2. INDIE nga gusto ng tao manood ng pinoy movies.

    3. Buybust one of the most boring films in history for such a provocative subject is sad but your fault direck. Yung lead actress mo waley.

    1. kailangan din kumita nung cinema syempre kung wala ng nanonood dun sa isang movie or mas konti ang nanonood syempre kailangan nilang ipalit yung movie na mas kumikita it's a business after all what do you expect? so at the end of the day nasa movie goers pa din yan kung kikita yung film and that's the sad reality dahil hindi na masyado tinatangkilik mga pinoy films kaya pano nila matutugunan ung demand for quality films kung wala silang budget dahil hindi sila kumikita

    2. Para magpalugi ang mga sinehan?

Nakakaumay

    1. a film's budget does not equate its quality. maraming mga small budgeted films na kumita nang malaki, locally and kahit sa hollywood. i think what he's trying to say in relation to movies with small budgets, is that those are probably not backed by major film outfits, nor will they star the most famous of actors. pero sana people will take a chance and see the film pa rin based on its merits.

      Delete
    2. Naintindihan mo ba yung low budget? Low budget doesn’t equate to low quality.

      Delete

Madaming low budget films na quality talaga like Honor Thy Father and OJT na gawa niya. Kaloka ka!

      Delete
    6. Hindi mo nagets yung part na yan! My gad.

      Delete
    7. I get it. What I’m trying to say is, do I need to pay the same price to watch two people talk in a cafe? Do I need to see them talk on a fifty foot theatre screen? Do I need to hear their hugot lines in surround speakers? Big budgeted films usually tick all those boxes so we go watch it in the cinemas.

      Delete
    8. 1:31 Then it's not a matter of kung low or big budgeted yung films. It's your preference sa genre ng film.

      Delete
    9. Dapat babaan ang presyo ng sine. Tsaka wag sanang basehan ang kinita para sabihin na blockbuster movie of all time.

      Delete
    10. 4:30, agree! Dapat number of tickets sold ang basehan dahil mas mura ang ticket prices noon kesa ngayon.

      Delete
  6. Well it's all about business and moneymaking.

  8. Dear Direk -

As you said, what you do, it’s a gamble. What I suggest is that the industry come together to study what can change the viewer behavior. Gamble big, but be strategic on when you will place your movies in the cinemas. You can definitely take advantage of MMFF - pitch there the best films that you can and really invest both in production and marketing.

There’s a lot that can be done, but you definitely have to drive it. You cannot ask the paying customers to adjust. You have got to be the ones to solve this. We like what we like and sometimes all you have to do is introduce something we didn’t know we’d love.

This isn’t something you will solve overnight but you got to start somewhere. And make sure you have people on your side who are really really smart and as dedicated as you to win this cause.

    Goodluck!

  10. I feel really sad for state of producing movies in PH insofar as return on investment is concerned. Its time forconcerned govt agencies to act on it.Theter owners should be given reasonable period of time to allow any Pnoy movies to run in their theaters whether with viewers or none. Cinema owners must mandatorily give equitable distribution of theaters to all foreign and local movies. Is it hard to impose?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Try nyo din kaya mag explore ng other platforms like Netflix. People prefer to watch movies at home, anyway dahil sobrang pricey na sa sinehan. Films like To All The Boys, BirdBox, the Kissing Booth etc. showed that there's money to be had in online distribution.

So instead of releasing it in theaters, why not put it up directly on Netflix?

Ako personally, mapili sa pinapanood sa sinehan. Admittedly, I watch mostly Hollywood films.

I really think it's time for filmmakers and producers to get with the times and switch strategies. Be innovative and learn to adapt to the everchanging movie-making landscape. Otherwise mapapag-iwanan talaga kayo.

    1. I agree. I’m at that point where both money and time are super valuable that I only spend them if I knew it’d be worth it. I only watch movies in the big screen if they are literally worth seeing in a BIG screen. These are movies that are heavy on visuals, sounds and well, hype. Because you can’t replicate all that at home. It’s the experience you’re paying for. For other movies, I’m fine with streaming services and watching them on TV.

You know how it is in this country.

    ReplyDelete
  14. low budget film pero pag dating sa sinehan same price sa international? you see where I'm going here?

    ReplyDelete
  15. try nyo kayang gumawa ng mala indie or historical, reality or experimental films na bigating artista ang bida. yung hindi formula gaya ng mainstream. halimbawa, vice ganda in a historical film. yung love teams sa isang super hero or crime genre. pag pumatok yan, ibig sabihin, baka nga mas preferred ng masa ang bida ng isang pelikula regardless of the genre or plot. pag hindi, malaking factor ang genre ng pelikula at ang bida para gumastos c juan sa sinehan. kung gusto ng mas wild, try nyong itapat ang sinasabi nyong quality film na may bankable bida sa napakalaking foreign film. anuman ang resulta, at least may datos kayo tungkol kay juan sa larangan ng panonood ng pelikula.

  16. Kahit sa Netflix lang ako manood, I can’t even stand to watch the first ten minutes nang mga mainstream Filipino movies, umpisa pa lang I know it’s going to suck na, dadayuhin ko pa sa sinehan. Pinanood ko ang Buy bust. Ganda ng trailer but the movie is disappointing. Trying to be stylish pero walang substance. How can I trust him as a director para subaybayan lahat ng films nya? Stop copying, do original with local texture/context cult films. Where are the Peque Galagas of this generation. Puro posers.

    1. Di mahilig sa sariling atin? Eh daming kinita ng Kathniel and Vice movies. They made tons of money over the years.

  19. I would like to support Pinas tv shows and movies but they are just so horrible. I can’t watch them at all. Sorry to say that, but it’s true.

  20. Hindi ko kaya ang pinoy movies. They are just a total waste of time and money. Foreign movies are a thousand times better in terms quality, variety, acting, writing and technology.

    ReplyDelete
  21. If you make good quality movies it doesn’t matter how you show it, be it on cinemas or streaming. People will watch good quality movies. Pinoy movies are just bad. Outdated concepts, poor quality and bad acting.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I’m confused, he seems to admit that pinoy films are low-budget and not good but he wants us to watch them anyway. It doesn’t make any sense.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sorry, but if the movie is no good , i won’t watch it. Sad to say but I haven’t seen any good pinas movie so far. Most are the same boy-meets-girl nonsense.

  24. Mahal po ang pelikula nyo. Yun lang un. Ibaba nyo presyo ng ticket.

  25. I've seen Erik Matti's movies. They're very boring and predictable. Quiet movies with fast paced dialogue and compelling acting can be great movies. Take Slumdog Millionaire as an exampke. You don't need explosions and gun fights. Also, the best action sequences are epic hand to hand combat scenes. I don't see that in many of his movies. When he talks, it always feels like he's shading other Filipino hit movies, as if only his movies are worth watching. Maybe that's the problem.

  26. Sana kasi din maging open nadin like same sex relationship ng cinemalaya para more choices.. kaso piling sinehan pinapalabas yun

  27. change is the only constant thing in this world.

  28. Don't ask for a guarantee na we will watch it. Get us intrigued and interested and we will part with our hard earned money so that you can earn yours. Commercial film is entertainment so entertain us para win-win. But I agree with releasing on different platforms. Like I read here, some films are not suitable or viable for a 100 cinema release. Keep up with the times and innovate kesa panay reklamo.

    ReplyDelete

  30. Mahal na manuod ng sine ngayon. I used to watch a lot of movies.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Direk, focus on improving your script bago mo problemahin ang budget and all other aspects of filmmaking. I saw your Buy Bust ang corny ng dialogues mo at characters mo. When you write a story, lagyan mo kasi ng common sense yung plot mo. Sorry direk if i am too blunt about it.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  33. Dapat kasi wala na rin network wars so yung mayayaman na production companies can work together to produce quality movies. Bakit naman sa ibang bansa nakakapagwork ang ilang studios under the same project.

There's always an opportunity for directors and writers to improve, pero yung tipong every year na lang, palaging cheesy movies yung pinopromote sa commercial. There always will be people who are open to movies na tatak Pinoy pero kung palaging pareho ang tactics, eh bakit napipikon ang mga directors at writers?
