Deceiving Representation

Image, as always, is essential for people who believe that they have to walk their talk. When one claims to be an expert in an area, one must be able to show to the world that he/she knows how to handle matters related to his/her claim. For example, people would tend to patronize salons knowing that the owner is an expert stylist or has done impressive work in styling people. In the same way, people who are involved in promoting routines must be practitioners themselves to add to their credibility.

When Creative Head (CH) was given an assignment to lead the production of a well-known and reputable publication, he knew the prestige of the position. Hence, he took over the reigns and people were excited to see the direction CH would steer the product. The position, however, carries certain responsibilities, such as engaging with the socialites and gaining familiarity with the target audience. In other words, CH has to embody the concept of the product, as he is now on top.

One day, CH shows up with a luxury vehicle. These days, the cost of a new luxury vehicle will not be lower than a six-digit figure. As CH beamed in his new car, colleagues felt his pride in showing off. Later, the friends of CH would realize that the luxury car was on installment payment and the monthly due has taken over the finances of CH. Reality says that even if his position carries prestige, the compensation might not be enough to sustain a way of living.

What his peers feared came true. To prevent the luxury vehicle from being taken back due to missed payments, CH started calling his friends and asking them for money to pay for his amortization. As his friends belong to the inner circle, money was easy to raise but being told what the money is for is something else. The action of CH turned off many of his pals.

    1. Agree. Why do some people go the extra mile just to fake the "living the life mantra" on social media. There's REAL LIFE outside of social media, guys!

There's no need to pretend, social climb and lie to project a different alternate universe for your "curated existence".

  7. Keeping up with the Joneses when you don't have money will just bury you in debt. Fact. Rein your envy and being too social status conscious. Being real to yourself is still way better and more classy than pretending to be someone you aren't.
