Repost: Transwoman to Represent Spain in Ms. Universe

Miss Universe Spain crowned a transwoman on Friday, June 29, the first for the beauty pageant.

Angela Ponce, 25, will represent Spain in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant scheduled end of the year. Her win comes as Pride Month comes to a close.

This is not the first time Angela competed in a beauty pageant. She joined Miss World Spain in 2015 but did not win. Mireia Lalaguna, who won the contest, went on to win the Miss World title that year.

Although she lost in 2015, Angela told the Daily Mail that she already felt like a winner when she competed in Miss World Spain.

"I have the regional crown on my head," Angela said about representing Cadiz at that time.

"And I will keep fighting to make us seen, to make us heard and to demonstrate that I am already a queen with my own crown."

In 2012, the Miss Universe Organization announced that it was allowing transwoman candidates to participate. It is unclear if the rule still applies after Donald Trump, who then owned the pageant, sold it to IMG.

Angela will compete alongside the Philippines' Catriona Gray, who hopes to take home the country's 4th Miss Universe crown. – Rappler.com

    3. I have no against the Transwoman but sana they give way for the real woman by birth in Ms. U. They also have numerous pageants that no real woman by birth can compete in.

    7. Kasi for the LGBTQ the ideal society is that there will be no genders, no definitive sexes, so that nobody is excluded or prejudiced. All such contests can be entered into by “everybody” and are equally judged for their good qualities. Mahirap ma achieve yun pero yun ang goal, which can happen rin siguro. I mean, 20 years ago, parang hindi achievable ang same-sex marriage, pero now, it is legally recognized na in so many countries.

      Delete
    8. I agree. I'm afraid for the future of my kids.. Maybe time will come na they won't know the difference between trans and women who were really born as women since birth. This is not equality at all. I love my gay friends, trans friends etc etc but we should still promote honesty in any events or pageants.

      Delete
    9. Correct 11:33.

    13. As a woman I personally find this unfair.Of course they will have the upper hand specially with all those hormonal pills they are taking, while us natural born females can’t take as much as they can since we have it in our system naturally and by taking more could predispose us to hormonal imbalance that can lead to different illness. We can’t have a society we’re in “gender” don’t exist because that is the natural way of life. I support the LGBTQ community and I think that they should celebrate their love and place in the society without stepping on other people’s toes. Remember the female Filipino runners who went gender testing like Nancy Navata, so how does MU any different from that? I think our society is overwhelmed about this progress that we are already forgetting the balance of nature. That it’s ok to be truly who you are but at the same time remember what you were and still are.

    14. SPOT ON 9:15

      Delete
    15. Correct 11:37. Nature will always find a way to balance the world, kaya habambuhay sila kailangan mag gamot para mag mukang babae dahil kung itigil nila yon babalik anyo nila sa pagiging lalaki.

I dont think its fair to have beauty pageants joining by trans and women at the same time.. We in lgbt community, we have unique abilities that women cant do and they have abilities that we gay people cant do as well.. Kontento na ako being third sex but i will never think that i am a woman because in reality i am not talaga! This ms. Universe pagents should be sa girls lang..

  44. The Miss Universe Organization is first and foremost a business and alot of their decisions will be related to staying profitable and relevant. Only time wil tell if this is a good decision or a misstep on their part.

I have been a beauty contest junkie since I was a kid. Although personally I do not see these women as the ultimate prettiest or best of their countries- I see them as beautiful, determined and competitive women who capitalize on their physical beauty and other talents to gain a prize or prizes that may ultimately help them in the future- be it in career, financially or even just to have fun experiences.

I am not bothered by this decision. If countries believe their "Miss" can be represented by a transwoman, why not? It is who we are inside that ultimately make us who we are. Beauty contests just celebrate those who were given an extra boost genetically - because when the contests were conceptualized, they were there to promote something- a product, a business, a charity. Now they have the extra push of promoting values and advocacies. And the contest is to decide who will be best face and spokeswoman for what they want to achieve.

Pinayagan sya ni them MU owner donald trump.

let’s jusy say a transwoman who look like a “real” woman enters a pageant and didnt say she was one. No one will react, just a plain girl competing for the crown..the animosity will only starts if that person confirm that she’s trans.. so, most people will react negatively not because they believe that the pageant is for woman only but becoz of how unnatural being a trans is.

    2. Anon 12:28, and let’s say a transwoman joins the olympics & compete against the natural born woman. Do you think it’s still fair? Think about it.
