    3. Maine acts more mature than that old fool Joey. She listens and respects people before making a comment. Way smarter than just ridiculing people's illness with an ignorant statement.

Like iniwan ng "minahal" nila, mga hindi magawa mga gusto nila dahil mali at alam nilang me haharaping mga obstacle, usually ito yung mga nagsusuicide. Usually mga MAKASARILI nakakaranas nito.... Now, iba naman yung takot...

  12. She disagreed without being disagreeable. Always a class act. Beauty with a purpose. That's our Maine.

  13. I respect those depressed people pero honestly tama si joey eh. In life, its mind over matter lang. Depression is a choice. So choose to be happy nlng.

Tsk tsk.

      Delete
    2. i reckon you haven't been in that situation before? coz you wouldn't say this if you have had first hand experience.

      Delete
    3. Oh gosh, another ignorant comment. Please read and know more about this condition first. This is easy for you to say as I assume you have not experienced it.

      Delete
    4. Baks, familiar ka ba sa clinical depression? If not, I suggest you read up about it. Nakakainid mga taong tulad mo.

      Delete
    5. Pls take time to read the comments on Twitter especially those battling depression. It's not a choice. That's why it's called mental illness. You can't choose not to get sick. It will just hit you.

      Delete
    6. i respect your opinion but i beg to disagree. you cannot control it. kahit na sabihin mong happy thoughts lang isipin, papasok at papasok pa din yan. its a mental state.

      Delete

      Delete
    8. No! Depression is not a choice, whoever you are. Educate yourself. Please.
Hundreds of articles are available for you to read. Ask the professionals. “Mind over matter” doesnt necessarily apply to everyone. There is no mababaw or malalim na reason to be depressed.

      Delete
    9. 12:27 im sorry dear. Depression is not a choice! If it was no people in this earth will be. In some cases you really need to seek medical help.

      Delete
    10. Please be educated.

      Delete
    11. I suggest you read up on depression. It’s not just a mind over matter kind of thing. Madaming factors involved. How can you choose to have an abnormal activity in your brain? You cannot choose to always be happy because if you do then you are in denial and living in a false world.

      Delete
    12. do you think those depressed people choose to be depressed? May respect ka pang nalalaman diyan...depressed people don't have control over their emotion..bigla lang nila nararamdaman without any reason..educate yourself first..wag kuda ng kuda

      Delete
    13. depression is not as easy as mind over matter. eventhough you try your best to be happy, eh kung depressed ka talaga, depressed ka talaga.depression is definitely not a choice. sino ba namang gustong maging depressed di ba?

      Delete
    14. I agree with you. I got depressed too pero after ko maovercome, I just realized that it was my choice to get depressed.

      Delete
    15. You must be referring to sadness but depression is a far more deeper complex matter. It can't be solbed by simply thinking happy thoughts. Take time to research about it.

      Delete
    16. Mahirap magsalita kasi ikaw di mo pa nararanasan. Mahirap pag kalaban mo sarili mo. I am a Psychology major. Need mo talaga maging matibay jan.

      Delete
    17. Tsk tsk tsk ... sad to say may mga Tao ganito... depression is not a choice...

      Delete
    18. Ay mali ka dyan ateng. I suffered depression also pero siguro minor lang. Kaya I know the feeling ng taong depressed. May iba siguro na pag andun sa pinakalowest point eh hirap na hirap bumangon and it's never gawa gawa lang o pangmayaman na pakiramdam.

      Delete
    19. Baks, naiintindihan kita kaya mo nasasabi yan. Pero please take time to read articles, watch docus, read books about depression.

Depression is real, it will hit someome anytime and it is never a choice

      Delete
    21. @12:27 AM Before saying things like this, better make a research first. You are lucky if you and none in your family has depression. Depression isn’t something you can just dust off your shirt. It is a mental health problem and not just a made up mood. Wake up! Google it up and educate yourself . Smh

      Delete
    22. Depression is a change/s in brain chemistry. Sakit talaga ang depression.

      Delete

      Delete
    24. Depression is never a choice. It's an illness.

      Delete
    25. @12:27am Be thankful you've never been diagnosed with depression. So please be careful with your opinions and be educated.

      Delete
    26. Actually medyo tama si 12:27, ang clinical depression ay diagnosed by a professionals ONLY. may mga depressions na hindi agad binibigyan ng gamot kasi may mga taong nagiging dependent dun. So initial treatment is talk theraphy. Dun mo ilalabas yung sama ng loob mo, libangin mo sarili mo thru activities etc etc.

Pero hindi dapat maliitin ang depression.

      Delete
    27. 12:27 you have no idea kung anong feeling ng may depression , kaya kung hindi mo pa un nararanasan talgang hindi mo maiintindihan
Minsan mas mabuti pang tumahimik kesa dumada

      Delete
    28. i agree with you 12:27 and joey. lahat na lang ngayon sinasabi depressed sila. self-diagnosed. pero that aside, sa mahirap di nila nirereklamo yan. mas marami kasi mas serious na problem. mind over matter lang.

      Delete
    29. True may point din naman si tandang joey... that’s why there is a saying, “Always choose to be happy”

      Delete
    30. Anung depression is a choice na pinagsasabi mu diyan? Tingin mu gusto nilang nahihirapan.

      Delete
    31. Hindi sya choice. Magbasa ka wag kang tanga

      Delete
    32. Depression is different from sadness or loneliness, it is a serious mental health condition and people should be aware of the signs in order to help those that are suffering from it. It is not a matter of just thinking positive and happy thoughts, it takes therapy, medication and support especially from the family and close friends. Before you agree with the stupidity of Joey de Leon, educate yourself and read! The internet has loads of information about it

      Delete
    33. 12:53 SANA GANUN KADALI YANG CHOOSE HAPPINESS MO. DEPRESSION CAN BE A RESULT OF CHEMICAL IMBALANCES IN THE BRAIN.
PLS BE EDUCATED. AND YES AL CAPS ITO FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND JOEY DE LEON.

      Delete
    34. You can prevent it if you allow yourself to. But I think the illness is really the process. Depression is the outcome of allowing yourself to be a victim of your emotions. If in the first place you had control over your emotions- choosing to be positive, choosing to be with those who love you, choosing to do things that you enjoy, loving yourself, lookin at the bright side of things- then definitely it can be prevented. Im not saying mali kyo, but I had experience in the past where I let my emotions control my life. I was sad most of the time, then I realized i didnt want to be sad anymore. It was definitely mind over matter. I started doing things that helped me divert my feelings. Eventually, I forgot about them.

      Delete

    35. Mind over matter daw! So pag nabaliw ka teh, mind over matter pa din? Isip isip din teh!

      Delete
    36. Yes may clinical depression. But I think Joey wants to express something but fails to choose the right words.. I mean bgo maging clinical depression dadaan muna yun s simpleng depression na kayang kaya labanan if you're determine to do so. If from the start pinili mong mging positive and happy lng then it will not be as malala n kailangan mo n ng professional help

      Delete
    37. Depression is not a choice. If it's a choice, why someone like me will choose to be lonely, helpless, unhappy? Of course not. It's a rollercoaster ride. Unfortunately, I have to battle it out with a help from a professional. A support and understanding from family and friends are needed, too.

      Please educate yourself.

      Delete
    38. People are confusing plain sadness or lonliness with clinical depression. Clinical depression has biological or more specifically, neurological and molecular underpinnings.

      Delete
    39. Depression is not just some flu that you can cure by telling it to go away. Ano ba educate yourself! It's compassion. It's the ability to put yourself in the shoes of other people. Cause if you have an ounce of compassion left in you, you would know how to feel for those who suffer from depression. Hindi natin dapat ito irecognize as joke, gawa gawa, or kasosyalan lang. Ghad these people

      Delete
    40. I guess it's subjective.. But to say something like that infront of the victim or the victims family is just very insensitive.

      Delete
    41. Please read up about recent findings about depression before saying: "mind over matter lang". Don't you know that there are BIOLOGICAL causes for depression? You don't say to someone who has cancer na mind over matter lang yan. Same thing with people who have depression. Sana bago mag-comment eh basa basa muna. And yes, I have an MA in Counseling Psychology.

      Delete

      Delete
    43. To those who don't understand depression...please read on it..i have seen patients at ER tried or successfully kill themselves because of depression..it is not a joke or a choice...there is a medical explanation for it...chemical imbalance in our brain leading to depression..so don't blame nor shame rather support.

      Delete
    44. Happiness is not the opposite of depression... kaya wag nyo sabihin na just like happiness eh we can always "choose" to not be depressed.

      Delete
    45. 12:53 hello? Serious medical illness po yan hnd yan bsta nawawala kahit ipilit mong maging masaya ka.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sabi na eh. Napa react din ako dito kanina while watching. Depression is a serious illness and it’s so hard to battle. Especially because of the stigma. It’s so sad that until now, our country still treats mental illnesses as taboo.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Wow maling maling mali talaga.

    ReplyDelete
  18. When someone stood up against a pillar of an industry, that's what you call a hero and "Maine Mendoza" is the voice of those needy ones.

    ReplyDelete
  19. But let's not forget that some people use depression as an excuse...

    ReplyDelete
  20. This person should be educated on depression. Hindi state of mind ang depression. It's not a matter of finding ways to be happy or positive para hindi ka maging depressed. Ang mga diagnosed with depression ay mga taong may chemical imbalance sa brain kaya nagkakaganon ang tao and unfortunately the worst symptom is suicidal thoughts and tendencies. This chemical imbalance can be corrected by medication kaya may depression tablets.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Speaking up against a veteran public figure for something you believe is no joke. Maine Mendoza had that courage to fight for the right.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Akala ko ba matalino siya? FYI, may scientific basis po ang depression. It has something to do with the neurotransmitters. Kaya nga may medications na binibigay ang mga psychiatrists for that dba. Pati psychosocial aspect involved din kaya nga may counselling. What an ignorant fool.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think it's time for Mr. Joey De Leon to retire.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It was cut short... but Maine relay her messages Loud & Clear! Depression is Real! Bravo Maine Mendoza!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Wala lasing konsensya yan Si Joey kaya nasabi niyang gawa gawa lang daw ang depression.

Good job kay Maine. Mas lalo mo akong napahanga.

    ReplyDelete
  41. As someone who fought really hard with depression 10 years ago, and back at it again for 2 years now, THIS REALLY ANGERED ME. Question the PSYCHIATRISTS. So, gawa-gawa lang nila ang diagnosis nila sa'men? Aba, eh malaking isyu 'yan kung nag-iimbento lang ang mga doctor na 'to tulad ng sinasabi ng HENYONG 'to. And what are the anti-depressants for kung gawa-gawa lang ang sakit na depression? Why do big companies continue to produce them? DADANASIN MO RIN 'TO!!!

  57. I was so disappointed with Ryan. He just kept silent eh. I think highly of him and I see him as an intelligent person, pero wala. Thank you Maine for taking a stand, and for Alden backing her up.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I watched the replay. For me the worst thing Joey de Leon did was to butt in & contradict Maine who was making a point on why depression is a serious matter. He even made Maine feel she was talking nonsense and he was the know it all. Tsk tsk tsk

    ReplyDelete
  59. And when Maine was about to say something more, nacut ung screen ng barangay. Sinadya ng EB eh. Kapikon.

    ReplyDelete
  66. You can see the look of disappointment in Maine's face. She kept her composure and I respect her for that.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Philippines has a long way to go with mental illness.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Not only Joey. Disappointing din yung ibang co-hosts na uneducated like Jose, Allan k and, yes, Ryan Agoncillo.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Please remove the old hosts there. Let Maine, Alden and Paolo take over. Sorry pero as much as I love JoWaPao, but I'll never forget Jose and Wally seemingly agreeing with Joey earlier.

    ReplyDelete

As a health practitioner maiintindihan mo yung point nya and point ni Maine, pero ang mali ni Joey is minaliit nya ang depression and ginawang joke. Just because you can't see the pain doesn't mean it's not there.

  71. I thought Joey de Leon is smart... Hindi pala!

  72. Kudos to Maine Mendoza for taking a stand against Joey De Leon when he said that depression is "gawa-gawa lang" on national television.

  73. Depression is a brain disease. It's a biological disease and not just a "mental" state. Educate yourselves.

    1. Exactly! You don't tell someone who has cancer to "get over" it. Same thing with people who have depression.

      Read up, people.

    2. Girl, iba po ang brain disease. Iba po ang brain and mental. Hindi po brain disease ang depression because depression is a DISORDER.

  74. For a minute I was scared for Maine kasi alam naman natin how petty and vengeful Joey can be if he feels attacked.

I agree that there exists clinical depression which is a serious matter. This is also why I hate when people abuse it by loosely using the term “depressed”. To some extent it is also a form of disrespect to those who are truly suffering from the condition. It pays to be educated by reading up on it for those who are not in the know. Perhaps it’s the only good thing arising from Joey’s ill-timed, inappropriate, and misinformed joke. Dagdag awareness due to the outcry of the people.

    5. Hi Psychiatrist here, iha/iha..read Kaplan first ha before making this comment..read your DSM...baka you're pertaining to sadness not depression..Depression is a medical condition..it's not a choice...

    6. Ako di ko kailangang maging psych major para maintindihan ang depression, I think 1:01 just lying to illicit comment at nagtagumpay naman sya lol

      Delete
Opposite of happiness is not depression, it is sadness. And sadness does not equate to depression. Kaloka ka.

    8. there's a difference between being sad and being depressed. when you're sad, people can still make you happy or do stuff that make you laugh. there's nothing your friends and loved ones can do when you're depressed. it takes professional help and sometimes medication.

  76. The problem is depression has been trivialized by some people who tend to exaggerate their state of being sad. It’s so easy for people to say “depressed” ako when it’s just sadness they feel. If that’s the case, oo mind over matter. But clinical depression is a whole different monster. It’s a serious, debilitating illness and shouldn’t be treated lightly. Clinically depressed people need all the help they can get. And it’s no laughing matter. I hope everyone can be made aware of this.

Understand why & it's nit that easy to overcome & even leading to suicide. Be a Maine Mendoza not a Joey De Leon.
