The plan was for the four to sing live with an orchestra. The fete was quite challenging as none of the four has really performed with a big group of instrumentalists. All four were serious and persistent during the rehearsals. However, the head noticed that PC could not meet the demands. DA, NM, and TP all come from a family of singers and have been honed in performing in front of the live audience. By contrast, PC has yet to prove her worth in terms of belonging to the league of live performers.
Despite being the weakest performer among the four, PC did what she could and tried hard. To help PC out, the head called for the vocal coach for a one-on-one session with PC. As the vocal coach and PC practiced, the effort was in vain. PC could not reach the required vocal range and her voice would not blend well with the other three. Given the sound of live performance, the voice of PC might be drowned by the sound of the instruments as well as the vocal prowess of the three. Bluntly, PC was still off-key even after the session with the vocal coach.
As no one dare say anything, TP made a subtle comment that their number might turn into an epic fail because PC was not at par with them. On hindsight, TP might not have as many followers as PC, but she has more than enough experience in theater and the music scene to know if a number would be harmonious. Upon hearing this comment, the attention of the head was called and the comment was relayed. A decision had to be made, and the head decided on what was thought to be the best for the performance.
After careful consideration and potential repercussion from fans, the head made the painful decision for PC. The script was revised and PC was dropped from the number. Thus, only DA, NM, and TP were in the number. Losing the chance to perform to impress IP, PC was miffed. Instead of being professional, people noticed that PC was a bit off in her spiels during the presentation. Other than the lost opportunity, PC was worried of the possibility of being overshadowed given her perception that her loveteam is no longer as hot as it was some time ago.
‘When you lower the definition of success to such a level that any person can reach it, you don’t teach people to have big dreams; instead you inspirit mediocrity and nurture people’s inadequacies.’― Shannon L. Alder
